He even got my daughter to eat a few more bites of her pasta before coming with the dessert menu. Cute Spot, Good Enough Food... But That Service We ended up at Baroche after making a last-minute pivot. We were originally headed to an entirely gluten-free restaurant, but after doing a little more research and seeing some not-so-great reviews, we decided to find something nearby instead. Baroche wasn't exactly the pasta moment I had envisioned for myself in Paris , but we made it work! We both ordered the fish and chips, swapping the fries for salads. The fish was good, and overall we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant itself is really cute, with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. It has that classic Parisian café feel and is in a great area for grabbing a bite and continuing your day or evening. Now...the service. Absolutely awful. Our server unfortunately fit the stereotypical Paris persona people warn you about -- rude, brusque, and generally unhelpful. He did recommend wines for us , but even then, his tone came across as condescending rather than helpful. There was very little warmth or hospitality throughout our meal, which definitely put a damper on the experience. Price-wise, Baroche seemed comparable to the other Parisian cafés and restaurants we visited in the area, so no surprises there. Overall: cute atmosphere, decent food, terrible service. My family and I stumbled upon this hidden gem today. Our sever Steven was everything! Real talk he was the reason we decided to stay and enjoy the experience. He greeted us politely while we were outside browsing the menu and sold us on why we should stay! We were glad we did! I had the linguine pasta and Steven was kind enough to add some roasted chicken to it and it was yummy! I also had the prawns as an appetizer, also recommended by Steven and they were delicious! My husband had the steak and roasted potatoes and my son had a burger and fries. According to my son, the burger tasted how all burgers should taste. He cleaned his plate! That said, who ever the older, tall server was, had a stick up his derrière. barking orders at the other staff in the most unprofessional way possible. Much like our other experiences in Paris, we were able to walk in and be seated. We were offered drinks right away. Our server was lovely and very friendly. The restaurant had great decor, open air and bustling energy. I will say, while our server was excellent, she was stretched thin. She had more tables than any one person could handle including a 12 top. She did her best but bc of this service was slower. I put this on management, not on her. We saw one family even walk out. We all came ready to get our drank on (btw, we were a party of 6). So, we ordered more than one bottle - don't judge! We came for a good time, not a long time! Service - Pretty good, but our food came out slowly and it took our server longer than necessary to set us up with plates and silverware. However, he was personable. Food - "Insert eyeballs emoji" Half of the food was great and half of the food seemed like a better fit for a middle school or high school cafeteria. We ordered french onion soup and escargot stuffed in mushrooms to start. We all liked these two items a lot. The snails were not the best I have ever had, but they were good. I didn't order the soup, but everyone raved about how good it was, great cheese topping and a perfect and slightly thick consistency for the soup. For our entrees we got fish and chips, lamb shoulder (braised for 12 hours; came with fresh veggies, arugula and pesto), rib steak in béarnaise sauce (came with roasted potatoes, fresh mushrooms and spinach) and Croque Tuscan (chicken, tomato, mozzarella and basil, it was an open faced sandwich). The fish and chips would have been an exciting go-to meal during middle school. It tasted like a frozen heated up meal, which can be enjoyable, however I expected more. The lamb shoulder and rib steak were delicious! Perfectly tender; subtle, yet powerful flavors and well cooked veggies. The Croque Tuscan sandwich was the opposite of good. It was soggy and I thought I heard it crying, no wait, that was me. When in Paris, try somewhere else or come here for the wine, apps, lamb and beef. read more

The staff speaks English at Baroche and provided me with an English menu. I wasn't asked for my Pass Sanitaire. There were 4 staff members and only 1 wore a mask. I was the only person eating indoor so no issue with social distancing. I picked a chicken breast dish (forgot what it was called). It was 21 euros and came with 2 large chicken breasts. The dish wasn't even warm when it arrived at my table. It tasted okay, neither good nor bad. They asked me if I wanted tap water or bottled water. Silly me, I assumed the bottled water would be free. They were very attentive to our needs and even paid attention to my children when they wanted to order something. We had the pate pie which is supposed to be award winning and my daughter tried it even though it wasn't exactly what she had in mind when she selected it. I had the rib eye and it was cooked as ordered with a very nice flavor. The bouillabaisse sauce had a nice texture and was prepared with sour cream. I loved the vegetables that accompanied my steak, very flavorful and just well done. For dessert we got the chocolate tart which had candies pear on top and we enjoyed the blend of flavors and found the filling nice and creamy with a hard tart crust. Our family arrived in Paris jet-lagged and hungry and checked into our Airbnb up the street and walked out in search of dinner. We thought this looked like a nice place. The headwaiter, Stephen and the owner graciously put together a table for six very quickly and seated us. We were all struggling with the menu and trying to decide what we wanted to eat. Stephen suggested that he surprise us with the best things on the menu. We were walking from our hotel at the Hyatt Madeleine to the Arc when we happened to pass by this typically Parisian cafe. They seated us promptly despite there only being one server on the floor. We split everything: French onion soup: this is actually the CHEESIEST French onion soup I've had. The baguette held firm in the soup and only became soaked with broth when dipped together. There is such a nice layer of gruyere on top I could eat many bowls of this and not grow tired of it. Absolutely my favorite here (tried replicating it at home and failed to get it so cheesy and gooey) Aged ham??: forgot the name, I can't really handle cured ham like this but my boyfriend liked it enough to eat most of it. The pork was really fatty and a little difficult to stomach for me Escargot stuffed mushrooms: the escargot was a little dry but the garlic butter sauce made up for it - hot and delicious Veal pot roast: came on a bed of butternut squash purée and baby carrots, covered in au jus. The veal chuck was extremely tender and flavorful with the sauce. I didn't mind it but boyfriend said the squash was way too sweet to go with the veal, and he didn't like it as much Coffee and OJ were great. The complimentary bread was sooooooo fluffy inside and amazing with the butter. Only offputting thing was when we first came into the restaurant and were ordering our food, the one server seemed really unfriendly and impatient. My salad had smoked duck breast, roasted pine nuts and roasted potatoes with organ meats (which I love). The salad was hearty, salty and just what I wanted. The pork cheeks were incredibly satiating with large amounts of seared crispy pig fat. This was cooked well but the star of the dish was the blood sausage. So juicy, savory and flavorful. We could not get enough blood sausage this trip. Beer and pressed grapefruit juice were ok. The grapefruit juice had too much pulp and not enough juice. Three of us ordered the chuck meat which was delicious and more of a creamy sauce a parisan style of a stew. One of us ordered the chicken which was also good. For the started we got the duck pie, it was not what we were expecting and didn't like it however the goat salad was very good. The service was extremely slow and almost a deal breaker I waited almost 40 min for my old fashion drink which was an extremely weird version a fruity version. Delicious vegetarian croque monsieur, but staff have some service issues. When asked if a dish was vegan and not just vegetarian, our waitress assured us (after a moment of deliberation) that it was vegan. When our food arrived, we asked again for clarification that the dish (vegetarian plate without the parmesan cheese) was vegan. They told us yes again, but when asked whether there was milk or cream in the sauce, they said yes. Failure to distinguish between vegetarian and vegan is a critical flaw for anybody who works in food service, especially at such an otherwise great restaurant. I understand that this is Paris, but hospitality is important, especially after still charging us €20 for the dish that they failed to properly describe. read more

Visited on September 27, 2019 for dinner around 7:30pm. Note: if you're sensitive to smoke, one of the dishes they cook uses a device which emits a smell similar to a cigar/cigarette. Very stinky. Also, the service is slow and one wait staff in particular (dressed in all black) was terribly rude. We thought it would be fine to take home our barely touched bread since we thought it was going to be thrown out anyway. The waiter scoffed and condescendingly responded no. My party laughed thinking he was just joking, but he was serious. Awkward. We later realized it is because this restaurant serves leftover bread to other guests! In Canada, this is considered unhygienic... but maybe this is normal in French culture. Also, the original server never came back so we asked another server for our cheque. As we walk out we pass by our original server who then accuses us of not paying our cheque. Again, awkward. Other negative reviews on this restaurant mainly relate to the terrible service. Alas, one star awarded for the food since it was still tasty. Word to management if they read this - the server dressed in all black needs to learn how to be a little less rude (there were two gentlemen working tonight dressed in all black, but I'm not referring to the one behind the bar). read more

We were lucky to be able to walk in and be seated right away during a packed service around 9PM. Onion Soup - Hot and delicious. They may have overdone it with the cheese, but I'm not complaining. Goat Cheese Salad - Decent. A good amount of goat cheese to be honest. Rib Steak - Yet another under-seasoned cut of beef. Nothing to write home about. The salad was great, the potatoes were good, but the accompanying sauce was just a little out there. The staff is pretty friendly, and actually convinced me to order the Rib Steak instead of the fish and chips, which looked good as it came out of the kitchen. Maybe I should have ignored him since the rib steak wasn't all that great. However, the rest of my party enjoyed their meal. For drinks I ordered a mojito before the meal, and a Moscow mule for the end of the meal - both were refreshing. We ordered the homemade foie gras as the starter. Eat the foie gras with the salt. They didn't have the veal so I got the fish and chips instead. This was very tasty and fresh. Really glad they provided a lemon to squeeze along with zesty tartar sauce for dipping. It's nice to go somewhere where the staff make an effort to speak English so you understand the menu and details of dishes you want to order, staff is so friendly and taught us a thing or two about France! We ordered the foie gras, pork belly + blackened beef, prawns + tagliatelle, and creme brulee dessert. Foie gras is one of the best in town - way better than the overpriced ones directly on Champs-Elysees. The main course dishes were excellent, dessert was decent.
