We had a terrible experience. It started off well when they accommodated us with two elders in small mobility scooters. The patrons were not nice about it, but the man who seated us was lovely (at first). My sister asked the waitress (in French, as best she could) if she could use the restroom. The waitress rolled her eyes and resumed speaking to her coworker. Right then, my sister wanted to leave. I wanted to push through and try again. Maybe we would get a different server. Nope. The same woman with the horrible attitude came to us. She asked if we speak French. We said no and apologized. We then tried to communicate with her through a translator app. We were able to order drinks. Two cokes and two French 75s. We also were ready to place our food orders, but she waved us off to place the drink orders. No big deal, we thought. She will come right back. She did not. She closed out several other tables, server all the others, and eventually brought out the coke and one (awful and flat) cocktail. After a lengthy wait she brought the second and stormed away, still never taking our food order. At this point we were ready to leave. We informed the man who seated us that we were leaving. He asked why and we explained that the waitress was rude and had not taken our order for food (we were approximately 40 minutes into our visit at that point). We offered to pay for the coke that one of us had drunken from. All the other beverages were still full on the table. He insisted we pay for every drink, whether we consumed them or not, because his boss would be angry. He then told us we were the problem and pointed to the mobility scooters (?). Apparently being disabled is a problem at this establishment (?). I paid for both cokes (even though one was full). He then swore at me as I left. These are awful people. We walked half a block up and had a LOVELY experience at the next restaurant, Paris Madére. They were so welcoming. They helped my mother and aunt into the restaurant and did not make us feel like a burden for their mobility issues or the language barrier. They were patient. The other patrons were lovely. The food and drink were excellent. I specially recommend the steak (fillet) and the tiramisu at Paris Madére. read more

TLDR: Fries, Bread, and Butter are good Onion Soup and Beef Bourguignon are bad A couple things about me...I am an American and I love French Onion soup and Beef Bourguignon. I try onion soup almost everywhere I go, the one here was not good. The soup was almost a yellowish color instead of a deep brown. The cheese and bread were ok, but since the underlying soup was like water I didn't bother finishing it. The Beef Bourguignon looked ok, but the potatoes are just hot potatoes. No seasoning, mine weren't even in the sauce really. So they added nothing. I tried the beef and the flavor was ok, but overall not good. I literally stopped eating it after 3 bites because it just wasn't good. The fries were delicious. The server laughed a bit when I asked for ketchup. Not sure why that was funny. Decided to eat here and it was the biggest culinary disappointment on our trip to France. The French onion soup tasted like water with onion in it. With any French restaurant, service is slow, but I was in the city to soak in the culture so I was not in a rush at all. There's only two people working the tables and running the food so if you eye a staff...think and act quick. Lots of locals around so obviously, you hope the food is as nice as it's charm. My cousin and I opted for the traditional French meal so thus we began the 3 course meal. For the appetizer, I ordered the escargot. With each dip into the olive oil+butter sauce and each bite it was all so good and deliciously fatty. Salivating at the thought of it again. My cousin had the French onion soup. Per recommendation by a kind French couple next to us we ordered the beef bourguignon as our main entree. Because we had the same order, we were given a small pot filled with LOTS of tender beef and carrots. We almost ate every bite of it, but at the end, we were defeated as four large chunks of meat stared us down. I don't think I saw any takeaway option as it is common courtesy to finish meals. We barely finished, but we ate it all. For dessert, I ordered a sorbet framboise with Vieux Marc de Bourgogne. Talk about boozy ice cream. If you want an authentic, they won't speak to you in English, Parisian experience, this is the place for you. I'm pretty sure the server is the owner, and of course the house special boeuf bourguignon is tasty. The service is so slow... Not just French slow, but slow slow, so if you're starving, this should not be your top choice. My friend was recommended to try the entrecôte at least once during our trip so after some Yelping, we chose Le Clos Bourguignon. Very open vibe with a bar and a smallish dining area. On balmy nights, they open the front doors so ask to sit in the back if you don't want to smell cigarette smoke... Ordered: beef bourguignon, entrecôte, and rump steak with foie gras sauce. Didn't realize all three were pretty popular but based on the reviews now, I'd also recommend these three. Starting with the foie gras, which has become a standard appetizer now, we took our time and even asked for extra bread. Then 45 mins later... the food finally came. I need to add that there were only five filled tables in the entire restaurant. Yet it took 30 mins. If I could insert eye-rolling into the review, I would. Beef bourguignon was great, rump steak gets a thumbs up (I wasn't used to the sauce, but it's pretty good to dip the fries in LOL), and entrecôte was a touch on the raw side. Came here as it was close to the opera. We had a fantastic time. The ambience was cozy. All around us sat locals speaking French. The food was fantastic. I highly recommend the steak and potatoes. Not only does it smell delicious but cooked to perfection. I also thought the escargot was large and good portion for €9,50. The beef stew was their special and did not disappoint. A little cafe we found by accident our last time in Paris. Went back again this time (a year and a half later) and it all held up. Great escargot, amazing foie gras, outstanding duck confit. The French onion soup is just okay, and the beef bourguignon was good, but I had serious food envy over my husband's duck confit. Out of all the brasseries I visited in Paris this one had the most character. It wasn't the most fancy. It wasn't the most expensive. It wasn't even my most memorable. It just had real authentic character. True grit. By character, I mean the interior had lots of red velvet material on the walls and seating (which had a few holes in it). The lamps and lamp shades looked time warped from the 1890's. The whole interior was decorated like an old Victorian brothel. Not that there's anything wrong with that :-) My food here could best be described as good French "comfort food." What I mean is my duck entree was a little bit greasy, but my portion size was large and filling. I walked away stuffed and didn't have any room for dessert. This restaurant gives you a family owned business feel. Gerome was very personable and kind. He taught us about the cheese and what parts of France they are from. He also taught us about the Saint Germain liquor that is used in the amazing Saint Germain spritz. (Definitely order one) The drinks were sooo good. The food was equally as good. So after searching Yelp for steak and looking at the most reviewed and calling around to see who was open, we ended up here. The onion soup was great- as expected, and had bits of pepper that gave it a more substantial taste than the French onion soups in the US. I then ordered the rump steak (medium) with frites of course! Unfortunately my steak was more like medium well (closer to well) and lacking flavor and the shallot sauce side tasted pretty much like the onion soup. So that was meh... The hubby got the beef bourguignon and enjoyed the flavor of the stew, but preferred to have a more balanced mix of the carrots, potatoes, and mushrooms to the very tender beef. The beef tartar was basically chopped beef with onion and hardly any other flavors served with bland fries. The portion at least is good.
