I truly do not get what all the good reviews are for. We ordered 3 items and they all appeared to be food that a teenager would whip up at home while experimenting at his first cooking atemps with leftovers. Chicken bits and french fries tossed in gravy, come on. All the gravy did was help lubricate the dry chicken bits. The burritos were garbage as well, they grabbed the same rice and beans that are sides and slap it in the burrito then toss a ton of cheese on it and melt it. This is not real food, you could put a ton of cheese on dirt and get the same results and this is cooking I go out and pay for. Now the guacamole; now that was good and this is why I did not give 2 stars bumping it up to 3. The establishment itself was tiny, faded and cramped, cramped to the point that No one was really in there and it felt cramped so imagine how bad it would get. It was way too expensive for what this place is about. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. The place doesn't look like much. I was glad I finally checked out Pollo Amigo. It is very casual. Great food, selection, and service. I've done both carry out and eat in. I recommend the half chicken with beans and rice. This is now my go to for authentic mexican food in Towson. read more

Little teeny hole in the wall that delivered great results! My fiancé were starving after a long trip up from DC and being the day after Christmas, most places were closed. These folks were not only super fast, very accommodating and just plain pleasant! I highly recommend the plantains! Didn't want to stop eating them. read more

Tiny, hole in the wall place. Perfect for picking up on your way home for dinner. I had the 1/2 roast chicken, black beans, yucca, and plantains. Got a beef quesadilla for the wife. Both were really outstanding. The quesadilla was not a meat and cheese only combo, but full of peppers, onions and tomato with sour cream, pico and a huge serving of beans and rice on the side. The chicken had great flavor and was greatly complimented by the white and green sauces served for dipping. Black beans were tender and just-right salty while the Yucca was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The plantains were cooked to that perfect just-caramelized around the edges sweetness. All of the above was about 20 bucks and there was plenty of leftovers. Would have given 5 stars but the chicken was a bit dry, but my guess is because it was a rainy sunday and no one was there. If it had been busy I imagine it would have been better. Everything else was made fresh. They also have enchiladas and mexican food on the menu and will be giving those a try next time. read more

Not embarrassed to say that I go here WAY more often than I should. The chicken is just unbelievable every time. The staff feel more like a welcoming family than servers. The jason burrito is outstanding, the chimichangas spot on. Its a small place but I'm telling you, best chicken I've ever had. Simple, fresh, charcoal grilled, and perfectly spiced. I like the half dark with rice and beans. Everything here is good. Someday I will call ahead for the ceviche but I just can get enough of the chicken. Probably my favorite restaurant! read more

The best chicken tacos I've ever had. They sell Inca Kola. The guy who has made my food the last few times (maybe the owner) was friendly. No frills. Good food. Note: The fries had an odd taste to them -- probably because they were fried in the same grease as some other non-American favorite. Not too big of a deal - didn't expect much from the fries. read more

Great little spot. It's basically a husband and wife that I believe own the place and do most of the cooking, and they turn out consistently great Hispanic food. They're also very friendly. read more

This place is awesome The staff barely speaks English, and the restaurant always has spanish speakers as patrons. I get their half chicken with yucca and fried plantains. The chicken is so flavorful (I don't know how they do that), the dipping sauces are rich and tangy, and the sides are so amazing. Those plantains are addictive, I could eat that all day. I have to confess that I often get takeout, but the smell is so alluring that I rip into the chicken and sides as soon as i get out of the restaurant and into the car. I suspect that one of the employees might have seen me, but it's so delicious that I don't care. read more

This place was pretty solid, but not a must-have. I came here on a Sunday for lunch, and had to order the chicken. The chicken was good, but lukewarm.. I think they have them pre-cut and just sitting. The chicken came with two sides of your choice, and the beans and fries I ordered was nothing out of the ordinary. I also tried the carnitas tacos, and liked them a bit more. Overall a solid meal, but probably won't be craving this any time soon. read more

This place is unreal. Amazing food and service at a low price. There's no frills and no a/c, but you can eat-in (if there's room) or take-out, and honestly, I thought the atmosphere was warm (not just literally) and welcoming. I got the 1/4 chicken with plantains and rice & beans. I've tried the fried yucca on another occasion. The plantains were perfectly caramelized, the rice and beans were delicious, and the chicken was quite literally the best chicken I have ever. had. ever. EVER. The fried yucca is very good dipped in the green and white sauces they give to you. I also got a pineapple Jarritos soda-- they have a few different kinds there, the Coke made with sugar (no corn syrup), and some other things like coconut juice. I am so glad I found this restaurant, and I will come back often. You can tell the owner really takes pride in this place. Come here! And get excited! read more

Great food at a neighborhood spot. We had the quarter chicken, sides, enchilada. All tasty and generous portions. Will return.

I was tricked by great reviews. Went there with two kids for quick lunch and man was it cold inside. And I guess you can get a better service if you speak Spanish - I don't. I guess that's why when I ordered chicken enchilada and asked if it was spicy they said No, it is not. I told the waitress that I am going to share it with my daughter, and she again said no. Then the small salad on the side burnt my throat, good, at least not my daughter's. I asked the waitress why did she tell me it was not spicy and she goes: the enchilada is not spicy! You didn't ask about the side! Well I had to be more specific I guess :( all in all the food was ok. read more

Dear Pollo Amigo, Being that I'm a South Florida native, can I express just how happy I was to find you? Since moving to Baltimore, I've notice there's a serious lack of yummy hispanic/mexican food. Thankfully, I don't have to say that anymore. I will see you again soon bby. read more

The food was amazing and the owners were really friendly and sweet! They take Covid precautions seriously. I'll be sure to come back next time I'm in the area! read more

Horrible horrible!! Got a take out today, Too dry, portion size is small, they give more of rice and beans, would never go back. read more

One of my favorite spots in Towson for quick take-out. Usually, I walk in and walk out with food in less than 10 minutes. Limited menu, but the food is really good. I always order the half chicken with beans & rice, and it comes with two sauces, which are tasty. I've never been disappointed. Great local business, and the owner is usually behind the counter. During the recent cold snap, I stopped in, and while waiting, the owner gave me a small cup of chicken soup, which was a great holdover while I waited. If you are looking for good, inexpensive meals from a local business, go here. read more

I loved Mexican food. I ordered the ceviche and Inca cola. It's nice. First time to taste it but it's spicy for me so I needed to drink a lot.. read more

Great food! The place is owned by a Peruvian couple and they cook their food authentically. You definitely don't feel like you're in the middle of Towson when you stop in for a meal. The carnitas tacos that I had were awesome -- carnitas were still really tender and the added salsa was nice and spicy. Will definitely be coming back to try out the other food they have. They make their own Peruvian Chicken and it looked really tasty as well read more

Stopped by here after going to the Towson Mall with my parents and it was great. We are pretty picky about the Mexican food after living in California for awhile. We tried the Jason Burrito the Vegetarian burrito and half the chicken. It was all great! Guacamole awesome, chips made fresh, were light and fluffy, and pick de gallo was fresh with a little spice. Overall it was amazing! We will be back!! read more

Awesome food. This place is fantastic. No frills, Peruvian style broiled chicken. read more

Only came here because they said Peruvian chicken. Worse Pollo saltado I've ever had in my life. FLAVORLESS. AS WELL AS SMALL PORTION FOR $14. read more

Bottom line : the chicken at Chicken Rico - the place near Patterson Park - is better. This has a nice char-broiled taste, but it's not magical and juicy. Rice is well prepared but ultimately uninteresting. Fresh pupusas were a treat and the folks are super nice. No a/c. read more

Tried Pollo Amigo on a whim because yeah that is what i do every now and then when the mood strikes. Towson is close to my house, but i was coming from Rockville so needless to say i was tired. Anyway, enough of my commuting problems, on to the food. The smells that were filling up the room in this small restaurant was just divine, my initial plan was to just get the Peruvian chicken but i added the Lomo Saltado as well. Verdict the lomo Saltado is good, really good, will go out of my way to get that, well not when i am coming from Rockville. The Peruvian chicken was ok, i have had chicken rico multiple times and i think thats better. The Chicken didnt retain the flavor a day after. Its decent chicken, but wont go out my way. read more

Excellent Peruvian food. Lomo saltado is authentically delicious and the roast chicken is excellent. Ask for extra sauce because the containers are small. Great place to watch a soccer game. read more

I tried them for the first time last night. I got the Jason Burrito with a side order of black beans & rice. My meal was pretty delicious.. The burrito had freshly made chopped grilled steak, although there were more beans & rice, and it was topped with cheese. The guacamole was great to eat along with the burrito. Black beans & rice were good, too. The portions were pretty massive, so you could definitely share or save it for later. The price was extremely inexpensive. My meal was about $9. Next time I go, I will definitely try the chicken everyone is raving about. Overall, I recommend eating here. read more

Pollo Amigo is pretty much the only Peruvian worth getting in the Towson area. The chicken is crisp and juicy. The plantains are always the right blend of crispy and soft and the rice and beans are pork free and delicious. Everything is freshly prepared and perfect. The store as pretty decent seating. Every time I come there is usually several other customers but it's not overcrowded like some Peruvian chicken restaurants. The authentic decor and South American soccer gives very authentic touches to this tucked away gem. Foodies in the know drop by regularly. read more

I always get lomo saltado when I'm home and found this place on Yelp! It's easy to find and a little hole in the wall but definitely worth trying! The price was decent ($12.17) for the amount of food I got but I think they could give a little more. Besides that the rice was amazing, the meat was tender and juicy and the fries in my lomo saltado were soggy. I will 100% be back to get my lomo fix. read more

Pollo Amigo - Lomo saltado with extra rice on the side - Peruvian Near Me - Towson, Maryland

Appearance here is something you need to overlook. Its on a busy road close to the Towson mall, but its a place you must stop into and check out. They do use the lime juice a lot but I guess thats a Peruvian thing... I like lemon and limes so I'm ok with all that. I had the porkchops which were really good, and had there rice and beans combo, I also ordered the platines as well. I did not dine in only because its really tiny but the take out was great! read more

I was prepared for a hole-in-the wall, but my first visit was after dark on a rainy Tuesday and it was downright intimidating. They have a stove, grill and rotisserie cooker visible just behind the counter - but no cooking was going on. The place appeared abandoned. The woman taking our order was unenthusiastic about the process. We sat and shared a coke underneath the sad old pinatas and tried to identify all the latin american flags on the walls. Eventually, our chicken appeared from the back, with sides of rice and yucca. Chicken was fantastic - wonderfully seasoned and juicy. It was everything we were hoping for. Only the French Fries were a disappointment - starchy and not very crisp - though that didn't stop the kid from plowing thru them. Great meal, dirt cheap price, one star off for atmosphere. read more

I don't get up to Pollo Amigo for lunch very often, but I am so happy when I do. It's a little hole-in-the-wall in a teeny shopping center off York Road. There's usually plenty of parking. The shop doesn't look like much, but the food more than makes up for it. I usually get a quarter chicken with yucca and plantains on the side. They come with two little dipping/drizzling sauces, one white and one green. The chicken is just absurdly delicious. Juicy, tons of flavor on the skin and down through to the meat. The plantains are sweet and soft, as you would expect. And the yucca fries. OH MAN. I can't even find the words. Also, Pollo Amigo sells Inca Kola! It's a Peruvian soda, golden, fruity and sweet - a very unique, refreshing flavor that goes well with the meal. Be sure to grab plenty of napkins; you'll get juice and grease on your hands and face no matter how politely you try to eat. It seems they prepare each order special (i.e., they don't have a big batch of chicken ready to send out the door), which is great because everything comes to you piping hot and fresh, but be prepared to wait a bit for your order. If you're in a rush, look someplace else. Pollo Amigo is definitely not a spot for a nice date, but it's some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. read more

I love this place! the staff is super friendly and the food is so delicious. I recommend the lomo saltado, you get a good portion for the price and it's incredibly flavorful. I always dine outside when I go despite the set up being a little less "elegant" than most places, don't let that deter you. read more

This place makes my environment something special!. The food is just waaaaw in general! The owner is super friendly , I admire him a lot read more

Really, really good chicken. I got the 1/4 chicken, white meat with french fries and yucca. The chicken was amazingly moist and flavorful. I liked both the sauces that came with it (I could only use the green sauce in small doses - spicy!). The yucca was super good - especially when dipped in the sauces. The french fries were pretty terrible, but that might have been because I took the food to go? Next time I'll get the plantains. Four stars because of the gross fries and the fact that it is really only good for carry out. read more

FYI: this place is now called Pollo Amigo, no Los Amigos Dos. I had the 1/2 chicken and it was "out of the park" good. It comes with a choice of sides (I picked salad and fries), some additional salad dressing and some fresh, bitey salsa Verde. While neither of the sides were earth-shattering (they were merely darn good), the star of the show is definitely the chicken. You can taste the spices and charcoal without overwhelming the chicken meat itself. All pieces, including the breast, were succulent and finger-licking good. I can't recommend this place highly enough! read more

Woah! You guys, if you're looking for cheap, fast Peruvian food and you're in the neighborhood, check this place out. I usually get the chicken with black beans and rice and plantains. The chicken is succulent and spicy, and the black beans are amazing. My wife gets the lomos saltado, which is beef with fries and stuff on rice. It's flavorful and juicy and carbolicious. Everything we've had here is excellent. 99% of the business is to go; they have two small tables so you might end up eating inna car. It's primitive but fun and tasty. A good cheap evening. Tip: for drinks my wife recommends the Mexican Coke, which is made with sugar. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for 3 years now. My goto takeout food is always Chinese food (I'm a New Yorker :-)). But my husband hates Chinese since I used to eat it almost every weekend. So pollo amigo is always a great choice on Friday when we can't agree on take out. He gets the beans and rice & I get my plantains & yuca...winning! I always call ahead as the store is tiny. The owner even remembers me when I come so that makes me feel like a special customer! Try them out of your interested in some tasty chicken & sides. read more

I was expecting a lot more based on the high rating, but ended up being disappointed. I suspect the high rating is due largely to the ridiculously affordable prices. This place is mostly good for take out. The seating is very limited, and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered the rotisserie chicken, and the people with me got tacos. The rotisserie chicken - a whole leg - was dried out and didn't have much flavor. Rotisserie chicken is supposed to be moist inside, crispy on the outside, and a little slice of heaven. I was extremely disappointed. Maybe they don't get enough business to have decent turn-over? My side of black beans was pretty bland too - again, extremely disappointing. My fellow diners said their tacos were also bland and the meat was dry, and they also were disappointed by the beans. Like I said, the prices are wonderful for the quantity of food, but the overall lack of flavor and quality don't really make up for the price. I've been to some Peruvian places were the food was incredible. I've also had black beans that made you want to smack your grandma, so in comparison, this place is just so-so. It appears to be a nice little mom and pop business, and I want to patronize it more often, give it better reviews, but the food needs to get a lot better. read more

Truly authentic food! The carne asada reminded me of vacations to Mexico and their hand-made corn tortillas are really something unique that I haven't found in any other Latin restaurant. The place is definitely a "hole in the wall" type restaurant, but who cares when the food is that good. Most of the less than stellar reviews are from the kind of people who go to a Mexican restaurant and order fries and gravy... I mean, c'mon people. read more

I ordered 5 different dishes for us and we were all disappointed. I was really excited to try this place and thought it would be a good go to for my son who just moved around the corner. The food was bland and my son's burrito was filled with mostly rice and my chicken chimichanga had a couple of small shreds of chicken in it. We will not be going back. read more

So happy to have found this gem. A small, unassuming space in little noticed strip mall. As others have pointed out, it's a warm and inviting place. The owner (I kick myself for not getting his name) was so friendly, sweet, attentive and funny. Staff was all great. The chicken...Oh My God....the chicken was unbelievable. Smoky taste with mouthwatering seasoning. My husband and I shared a full chicken (1/2 of it came home with us) with some rice and fried yucca. The yucca was some of the best I've ever had...and I've had my share; as was the rice. Fluffy, and flavorful. Awesome meal for two, for under $25.00. Will go back, no doubt. A lot. Yum. read more
