Delish poke bowls and thank you so much for coming to North County! We desperately need one up here after tens of thousands opening up in Orange County! It's a casual dining place where you walk down the line to customize your bowl like a poke chipotle. They have choices of salmon, ahi tuna, yellowtail and tako for the proteins, and most of the time it's fresh. One time I saw the yellowtail in the window a bit old so I didn't get it, but very soon they switched it out with a new batch without even finishing the old one, so that's good to know they aren't trying to cut cost to sacrifice the quality. Their other condiments on the bowl was also delicious, and I like how you can choose half rice half veggies. A full bowl of rice might be too much. The flavors were good and service was prompt and friendly. The only big downside was the amount of MSG they used... We were all so thirsty and tired after the bowl, so if you plan to have a very productive day, maybe it's better to save Poki Poki for another day. read more

Perfectly yummy poki bowls!!!! I wasn't a fan of poki until this place. The combination of fresh fish, plentiful sides atop warm rice makes my mik th water just thinking about it. I would frequent this location when I went to class at the college up the street but now that they've opened another location in Encintas I don't come here much any more BUT when I'm in the area, this is the spot! Try half rice/half salad mix...makes you feel EXTRA good about yourself! "so healthy" I also have them add in the miso dressing when they stir up the poki since it's so good and it makes for a nice light sauce for the rice. This is the biggest poke bowl I have ever gotten. It's massive. Yet costs the same as a regular bowl anywhere else. They have all my go-to proteins, toppings, mix-ins, and sauces. The rice is a little dry and I found a bone (at least I hope it was a bone). read more

With poke getting so trendy and new spots cropping up all over the place, its hard to find a good place. This is a good place! Lots of fish choices, including octopus, and tons of free toppings including krab. The only topping that costs extra is avocado for $1.00. The service is fast and I've never had to wait here. These places are popping up everywhere! I've been to the Vista location a few times but I'm here more often as it's closer to home. Place is always clean and service is friendly. The poke itself is fine. When it comes to poke, I prefer it to be marinated and more flavorful but this place does the trick when I'm in a hurry and need a poke fix. I normally get a small bowl for about $9.50 which gives you more than enough food depending on the toppings you add. The times I've eaten here, they've always given me a good amount of fish per scoop. Toppings usually taste fresh however the last few visits I've noticed the fried garlic has been stale and hard. I'll probably avoid it at this location moving forward. Bottom line, if you're looking for a quick, healthy meal at a reasonable price, you'll definitely want to try this out. But if you're looking for more authentic poke, there are better options. read more

I ordered a regular size, which comes with three scoops. They put a generous amount per scoop and the toppings are endless. I've been incorporating more fish into my diet lately and my latest obsession -- if you will -- is build-your-own poke bowl. So I was going through yelp in search of a good restaurant in the north county area when I came across this place. The other reviews were good so I decided to check it out. Ordering is straight forward and easy. You pick the size you want which corresponds to the number of protein scoops you get. I got white rice as a base with salmon, octopus and yellowtail topped with seaweed, masago, crab meat and edamame. The house sauce was very flavorful and blends well with overall dish. I also added spicy mayo which lent a creamy, spicy kick. I really loved how all the ingredients were fresh! The fish was of good quality and the octopus was perfectly cooked - not rubbery or hard. The place itself has rather limited seating inside but there are plenty of tables outside to the side of the restaurant. The crew was patient and did not hurry me along the line. They took time to mention all their offerings, making sure you get everything you want. Prices are reasonable with the portions you get. Their scoops are larger than other poke bowl places and they don't skimp on the toppings. No complaints there... Parking is plentiful. It is in a commercial plaza that's very near the freeway that makes it convenient and easy to find. They also offer macaron ice cream sandwiches though I did not try them. Personally, I've been to a plentiful of poki spots and have gone generally bored and lacked any interest due to the fact they all taste the same as well as they are steep in price for what is served. Although I had a negative outlook on poki spots, after visiting Poki Poki, a revival in my interest in poki has reemerged. Pros: -love the size, twice as large as the portions that I'm accustomed to. -because of their serving size, it makes the price very affordable. (9.50 per bowl, 3 protein) -clean tasting fish, doesn't taste old nor does it overwhelm in tasting "oceany" -sauce is just the right amount, not too overwhelming nor does it mask the fish -HELLA toppings to add from (imitation crab, seaweed salad) and they are generous with their servings. -friendly staff and clean environment Cons: -limited amount of seats, sits maybe 30, but there is outdoor seating! -just your basic protein (octopus, salmon, spicy tuna, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp). It would be nice to see different proteins to differentiate themselves than their competitors. -limited sauces, then again, sometimes less is more. There's not a place like this is really in our area, and this is the closest poki place to me so I'm a happy camper. Flavor of sauces are excellent. Be careful not to go too spicy. not impressed. kind of a mashed together mash-up. my bowl looked like it was assembled in a blender. i believe food should be composed. mine seemed less inspired by its JAPANESE roots than JACKSON POLLOCK. i grew up in HAWAII and am not usually a stickler for "authenticity" -- if food's good, food's good -- irrespective of how far it strays from tradition. but you do eat with your eyes first. i've heard that often enough it must be true. everybody else's photos look less thrown together so maybe that part of my experience was extra personal. i tried not to be put off by the HENRY FORD assembly line production. i know most food's built that way but it's hard to watch when it happens right in front of you. i had the brown rice (nice to have that option) and the three oversized scoops (the serving size for a "regular" bowl) made for an overly filling lunch i couldn't finish unless i wanted to waddle out stuffed. NOTE TO SELF: skip the avocado (not seasoned separately) and mashed into a chunky guacamole. added nothing to the dish. here's the bummer part of lunch: the rice was still warm and started to cook the "raw" fish which kinda defeats the point of a POKI bowl. if i ever do a spread in PLAYBOY, i gotta remember to list warm POKI bowls as one of my turnoffs. on the plus side, i asked for spicy and got spicy and the "scoops" of salmon and yellow fin (octopus, shrimp, yellow tail and spicy tuna are also available) were generous -- so the value's there. if you're starving, you certainly won't leave hungry. i didn't, just a little disappointed. read more
