I love poke but this was my first poke (not poki) only restaurant. I was a little skeptical about the whole concept - a poke Chipotle or Chipoke. :) But for a relatively healthy and light lunch, a poke bowl hits the spot. You select from white and brown rice or salad and choose 3 (regular) or 5 (large) scoops of fish (tuna, spicy tuna, salmon, scallops, cooked shrimp and albacore). The scoops are tiny but they do give you a bigger scoop than the actual scooper. You then complete your bowl from a variety of toppings and sauces. The first time I had a regular and was not completely satisfied. The 2nd time I got a large for $11.95 but was completely full. I found the fish and all the ingredients to be fresh. The service was friendly and patient. These places are popping up everywhere. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. read more

I haven't been to many poki places so I don't have much room to compare, but I think this place is great. For $8.95 I can get the regular bowl with three scoops of fish, toppings and sauces. I got spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and albacore. All toppings are free and certain ones have a fee to get EXTRA. Get the poki sauce and ponzu.... and spicy mayo! Deliciousness. I got half salad and brown rice for the base. It's definitely enough for me. I actually have to save half for later. The scoops of fish are kind of small, but in the end-worth it. Since I didn't pack my lunch today, I decided to try this new poki place around my work. The restaurant is in the middle of no where and easily to be missed but parking was great. The instructions on how to purchase a bowl was clear and pretty similar to other poki joints I have been to. You pick your carb, your fish, your toppings, then the sauce. Done. I decided to go with 5 fish with no rice or salad, it's just how I like to eat my poki. The girl was super nice and told me she would give me 10% off for no carb. I got 2 scoops of tuna, spicy tuna, albacore, and scallop. The fish itself was cut a little too small and hard to define after everything was mixed together. Matter of fact, not identifiable at all except the scallop. I am not saying it should be huge chunks but just a little bit bigger would be great. The topping portion was generous. I used ponzu and spicy mayo together which gave a very balanced taste for me. Overall it's a pretty good lunch packed with portein. I also got a free drink because the line was a little long and they wanted to let me know they appreciated my business. They also have punch card for frequent customers. tldr; FOOD WAS TRASH. My brother and I were craving poké, decided to come here because of the good reviews, only to end up being extremely disappointed and still hungry. Firstly, the rice was old and hard. Rice is the base, and if that cannot be made right, then it throws off the whole flavor. Secondly, fish was NOT fresh. The flavor of everything was ruined. It was so disgusting that I ended up only finishing the protein to not waste the expensive parts, and I threw everything else away. If I was able to eat in store, I definitely would have complained and asked for a refund. I did not pay to eat trash!!! Worst poké I have ever had. I've been here twice now & both times I left feeling like I could've spent my money better elsewhere. The first time I went, the crab was kinda old--all clumped up and wouldn't really separate. Overall flavor of the bowl was very average. Today I go for the second time to give it another chance. Anyway, I order my regular sized bowl, and the lady ends up giving me a large, won't take it back bc she already put my rice in the bowl & they're "closed anyway" even tho the sign says open. Fine, I continue to choose my 5 choices of meat, albacore all dry and stale looking. I take it home to eat and my spicy salmon is chewy and has white pieces in it--fat I think? The minute I enter the place, we were greeted like coming back to your own place. The owner was very engaging to our needs and preferences. She made suggestions to classic and popular combination. For me, that was super helpful as I was not a poki fan. The food quality tasted very good and the portion was overLy generous. They don't call it poki monster for nothing. So this place opened up when the "Poke craze" first happened over four years ago and this was the first time I've tried this place and I wish I never even stepped foot in this place, but here's what happened here... Very empty place on a Saturday afternoon, but the worst part about this place is that it's in a small corner parking lot with busy incoming traffic from all sides. There were two people eating inside and as soon as I get inside, some guy greets me and gets started. I was thinking, "Oh, okay. It's a great first impression, but let's see how the food is." I ordered myself the following: Step 1: Large bowl with White Rice. Step 2: Edamame, Avocado, Crab Meat, Seaweed Salad, Ginger, and Cucumber. Step 3: Salmon (1), Tuna (1), Albacore (1), Scallops (2). Step 4: Ponzu, Loco (on the side). Step 5: Green Onion, Sesame Seeds, Wasabi, Masago, and Nori. To start off, the rice was chunky, lukewarm, and hard. I really liked how the first scoop of crab meat and avocado are included, but the amount of toppings given is ridiculous. After getting 10 small pieces of ginger, I asked for more, but the gentleman said it costs extra. So what you're telling me is that in order to get more cucumber on top of the six slices costs extra? Hell no, man. Ginger isn't an expensive ingredient and you can easily spare 10 more pieces. The amount of seaweed salad given was really absurd as well. Oh, back to the cucumbers; they tasted stale, like they were prepared yesterday. The protein were okay, but nothing special. The salmon was slimy and flavorless, along with the tuna as well. I like scallops raw and not the way these guys prepare it. I got my mom spicy tuna on her bowl and instead of the usual grounded way, they just put some of that chili sauce on top. Their ponzu wasn't citrusy at all, which is the whole point. Their LOCO sauce was your typical chili sauce and wasn't spicy at all, 4 chili peppers, my ass. Very disappointing, I will never come back ever again. Skip this joint, this place sucks, man. Skimpy on their toppings, protein, and their sauces aren't tasty at all. Price is expensive and the quality just isn't there. Imagine three scoops of nothing on a small order. You can eat that in one bite. $30 for a large and small is steep and not worth the value. Wasn't too impressed with the sauces but the protein was good. I like that avocado is not an extra charge but I do wish there more toppings available. Ok spot for Poke. Fresh everything but it really didn't wow me. You won't go wrong here but where other spots have great sauces these were just ok. I have been coming to Poki Monster for almost over a year, but today was an absolutely disgusting experience with the food and the service. I came in and ordered my usual style, large bowl with white rice, spicy salmon, and my usual sauces and topping. However, when I arrived at home not 10 minutes later, the salmon appeared to be rotten. They were half pink and brown, the brown being completely hard and chewy. After trying a couple more bites, I confirmed the foul taste and smell came from the spicy salmon. As you can see, I am not the type to write any reviews, but today was just that bad. Normally, I wouldn't even have bothered writing anything if it weren't for the horrible customer service. I called 3 times before finally being answered on the fourth call, it was a young employee who answered with "Pokimonster", I proceeded to tell her my name and that I was just in the store and purchased a bowl. Before I could continue on beyond that she hung up. I tried calling back several times to which none of my calls were answered. Were you guys aware of your gone-bad salmon and maybe I wasn't the first caller of the day reporting it? Why else would you refuse to pick up the next several calls? Poki monster is another great place to get Poki. Like all the other poke shops, everything is customizable. Their sauces are very delicious. What's great is they have either regular size (3 scoops of fish, mix and match at your pleasure) or large (5 scoops of fish) Their fish are seasoned well, and are pretty fresh tasting, though we had a bite of frozen fish. I've known of this place for the past year and just now trying it out. This place is on a list of favorite poki spots by a friend that lives on this side of town so had to check it out when I was in the neighborhood. I'm normally not a fan of poki spots that cube cut their spicy tuna because I end up with 2-3 pieces of fish per scoop....which is kind of a joke, but this place gives a descent scoop for your money's worth. At first I thought I would still be hungry after finishing this but it turned out to be a very filling meal They have all your standard sushi selection, which even included seared ahi tuna! Sauces were about the same as most other places and the price for the large bowl was very fair at $11.99 for 5 scoops of fish, and however you decide to build your bowl. We were this close to turning around and go to another poke place until someone just happened to be leaving in front of us. When ordering, I quickly noticed the $1.00 charge for guacamole, which isn't really a surprise (although another competitor that just opened nearby gives it out free of charge). You order in 5 steps (base, sides, fish, sauce, and toppings) My order: Regular size bowl - $8.99 Base - 80% salad, 20% brown rice Side - crab meat, cucumber Fish - 2 albacore (wohoo!) and 1 tuna Sauce - sesame oil, spicy mayo, and volcano #2 on the side ;) Topping - green onion (be careful! We ALL teared up while eating) Besides the $1.00 avocado sign, the other thing that jumped out at me was their fish selection! Not all places serve albacore and their spicy salmon looked real good for all you salmon fans out there. For you spicy fans (me included) they have 3 levels of volcano.. 1,2 and 3. Parking can get tricky here since it's a pretty small lot, but if you come slightly before or after the main lunch rush, you should be good. Now they also have stamp cards for a free regular bowl! I found that this poke chipotle-style joint has some unique toppings; some that I didn't care for, but some you can only find here! I felt like their scoops of fish were pretty generous here, but I think it also depends the time that you stop by to pick up a bowl. When we came a little after prime lunch time, we got pretty hefty scoops. I typically go for the regular half brown rice and half salad bowl with salmon, spicy tuna, and albacore, edamame, seaweed, crabmeat, seaweed, onions, masago, and sesame oil with spicy mayo. Price was $8 and some change, and was beyond filling. Staff here was also very nice and patient. Desperately looking for something good to eat around Brea (halfway point between my gbig and me), I found Poki Monster on our good ole friend, Yelp, with decent reviews. FOOD l 3 I ordered the large bowl (5 scoops for $11.95) with half brown rice and half salad. Next, I chose my fishes (spicy salmon, salmon, spicy tuna, tuna, and scallops). Then they added what I think was seasame oil and you add your toppings (however many you want!). I decided to get everything but the tomatoes and pineapple with ponzu sauce and a container of spicy mayo on the side. While the portion, with the toppings, were bountiful, the cuts of the poke were small and mushy and the flavors weren't really there. I couldn't taste the "spicy" flavor of the two spicy salmon and tuna at all. However, with the ponzu sauce and some of the toppings, the meal tasted alright, but I think poke will be better off with fewer items; less is better in this case. Lesson learned hahah AMBIENCE l 4 Parking spaces are lacking, but Poki Monster is a clean establishment. Perhaps I missed some monster designs on the wall, but I'm not sure what the name "monster" has to do with the store (but I admit, it's a cute name) PRO: - good sized portions - lots of toppings e.g. Avocado, imitation crab, seaweed salad, etc CON: - meh quality poke - pricey - not too many parking spaces VERDICT: It's way too far for me to go out of my way to order and I don't think I'll ever be craving and insisting on getting poke here. Gross. This place doesn't serve fresh fish... I pass this on my way to the gym everyday and I've been meaning to try it. I swung by here after working out... Its in a little plaza off of Lambert and Brea Blvd. Parking is limited. I came during lunch hour and there was a 3-4 people working behind the counter so I didn't wait that long although there was a couple people in front of me. While I was waiting for my turn, a gentlemen came to the front in a red chefs coat. Part of me felt that this place couldn't be too bad since there was someone who hopefully had knowledge on fresh ingredients and time temperate control. I got a Large Salmon Bowl as usual. I got my order to go and when I got home I was excited to try a new poke spot. Upon my first bite, I could taste that gross fishy flavor. It seemed as if they tried to use their sauce to mask the bad flavor. Mind you, it wasn't the drive home that spoiled the fish either. It only takes me 15 minutes to get home from here. Not the best, not the worst. It was just OK, nothing to rave about here. Because I know there are other MUCH better places to get poke in the area, I wouldn't come back here again. So hard to keep up with all the new poke places that have been popping up. This place, unfortunately, wasn't as good as some of the other places that I've tried. For those of you who have never tried poke, the ordering process is very similar to Chipotle. You pick a base (salad, rice, noodles) followed by a few side dishes (seaweed, imitation crab, etc.) and your choice of fish (# scoops depends on what size bowl you get). I went for tuna and scallops. The tuna was good. The scallops didn't taste super fresh. My biggest issue was how much sauce they used. I chose the ponzu sauce, and they used so much that even most of my rice was sauced with ponzu (they mix it only with the fish and then pour it into the bowl). So I recommend telling them to go light with the sauce. Prices here are pretty on par with other poke places I've been to. Poke ain't cheap, but it's delicious!! Overall, I think that if you've never had poke before, this wouldn't be a bad place to start. But if you've already been to a few places, this place might not live up to your expectations. read more

This review is on the basis of having gone to many of the local poke spots in the greater LA and OC areas and seeing what the standard for quality poke. Generally this place is sufficient to run a good poke bowl, but doesn't go beyond the fray of making itself different. There's totally nothing wrong with the place, it is just not the best of the bunch out there. I ordered a large poke bowl with salmon, spicy salmon, albacore, and scallop. They offer all the standard fixings like crab mix, seaweed, avocado, and furikake. They offer as well a variety of sauces relative to spicy, shoyo, and mayo based. One difference that probably most arent used to is that the sauces arent mixed into with the fish. the sauces are just poured over. the problem with that is doesnt fully enhance the poke flavor that way and doesnt give the best overall satisfaction. You can however get as much sauces per request. The rice i got could have been a little softer, but thats just a personal preference. One good thing is the servers did ask if we had any personal opinions of the place and we did tell them our opinions of the same matter. I like that because they are new and they are trying to improve. i might comeback and itll be a better poke place. Mmmm tasty! Wow, really liked the fresh seafood and mix of flavored, sauces and ingredients! Got a regular poke size bowl for $8.95. You get three fish to choose from and I got the tuna, salmon, and the yellowtail. All were fresh and the amount was decent. For the base I got brown rice and got all the toppings and ll the sauces including volcano 3 which is the hottest of the three volcano options. Wow, tasty! The place itself is cozy and located in the Seven Eleven strip mall at the corner of Lambert and Brea blvd. Service is fast, courteous, and friendly.
