Subsequent visits have been better than the first-- the "basic" poke seems to be closest so far to what I'd expect in Hawaii... but the flavors again seem a bit off in seasoning and intensity. Even the mac salad is a bit different, again too much mayo or something? only it's not off by very much, unlike the first visit's spicy mayo poke. That said finding properly marinated Hawaiian-style poke (as opposed to the typical abominations found here!) is basically impossible here on the mainland, and again I am happy to keep coming back! read more

Had pretty high expectations for this place after seeing all the reviews, but I was ultimately pretty let down. Maybe I'd stop by if I was in the area again but it wouldn't be my first choice. Main issues: 1) quality of fish, 2) service I get it, it's not always possible to have fresh fish, but when I've tried places like Ali'i Fish Co it's hard to not compare the two. I've been to the sister stores (franchised so different ownership but similar recipes and dishes?) Poke & More and the same good quality can be found here. What sets this place apart from other poke places is that they focus on bringing out the freshness of the fish with humble and traditional Hawaiian flavors. Other places load up on the random toppings and drown the fish in sauce to make up for the lack of quality of the seafood. The prices here are really reasonable and you can expect to pay about $10 for a meal or $6 for the simple breakfasts. I noticed this location had a unique flavor I hadn't seen at the others: Oka, a Samoan coconut lemon. Unfortunately they didn't have it the times I've been but looking forward to trying! I recommend getting the garlicky Ilocano longanisa breakfast for a cheap and tasty meal or the Cali Hawaii tuna. The loco moco here is also tasty but I prefer this dish at the Long Beach location. This gravy is saltier and they didn't give us Hawaiian macaroni. :( read more

Ordered poke from this place and it is way too salty. I don't understand how this place is getting 4.5 starts. I don't mind people faking it but as long as the food is good ... which is not the case here. I see some Filipino dishes and then a smorgasbord of Poke selections. So I asked about what the different types are and they said all fish, all tuna. I was like DUH, no kidding they are all fish. I was asking them about the flavors because I can't tell from the dark mixtures what they taste like. I should've raised a red flag when the lady couldn't even explain the flavors of what she was selling. Another thing about this place is that the Poke seemed a bit old. Why? Well, when fish gets seasoned with vinegar or somethin acidic, it cooks the meat. So some of those pieces are done/ripe. Also, it seems like they used tail pieces in there as well. Unless previously flash frozen, those tail pieces may contain parasites. Needless to say, I won't be coming back for a $18 poke. This place is over priced. I understand, inflation, inflation, inflation. My suggestion to this place, don't sell too many flavors, just increase your quality and serve less portion. I always get the spicy mayo salmon bowl, its was great the first few months. But lately the cut of all their fishes and onions have gotten enormous. And they leave the dark meat on the salmon which leaves a very fishy taste. Sometimes they dont even bother to cut out the skin and sometimes you'd be eating scales. This is my go to poke spot! I've been coming here for years now and they never disappoint. The portion sizes are fairly large compared to places like poke bar, and for the price you get a gracious amount of food. Personally I love the wasabi flavor but the spicy Mayo, Cali Hawaiian, and oyster, are all fire as well. They also have a large selection of non poke items like chicken curry (amazing), shrimp tempura, Filipino style adobo, and Hawaiian breakfast (spam and eggs) to name a few. Everything on their menu is a good choice and I would highly recommend this to anyone in the area. The staff is also very friendly and attentive. I've tried a lot of different poke spots in in the South Bay and OC, and while most are customizable build your own bowl type restaurants, poke etc maintains an authentic Hawaiian atmosphere with how they serve their food. I have been going here for poke salad 2 to 3 times a week for at least the last month and today out of the blue without saying anything they cut the poke portion to sample size. I walked back in to question why and they lady said the owner was charging too little (about $8) for the amount of poke they used to give with the salad so they cut it down. The place itself is small with only about 6 stools for people to sit, but it's clean and welcoming. I had the plate that comes with two scoops of rice and your choice of two different poke flavors. I chose Ginger and Basic Spicy for my plate. The Ginger had a really good flavor with just a hint of sweetness. The Spicy one definitely has some spice, but was a nice compliment to the Ginger one. This is the closest thing to true authentic Hawaiian poke you can get. It's straight to the point. None of the extra toppings bs that takes away from the flavor of the fish. I've been coming here before I've been to Hawaii and I recently just got back from Honolulu so this is the closest thing I can get that reminds me of true Hawaiian poke. My go to is the Ginger ahi and Spicy Mayo ahi. My other favorites are the Sweet and Spicy, Oyster Sauce, and the Kim Chi. You can do the poke bowl which is rice and a few scoops of fish. Im a fatty and a poke enthusiast so I like to order 3/4 lb of fish with a side of brown rice + furikake for $1. I usually do 1/2lb of ginger and 1/4 lb of Spicy Mayo. All comes out to be about $13-$14 depending on the weight of the fish. It's a small establishment with 5-6 bar stools so don't expect to sit down. Most people get it to go. Great place for a quick bite. As others have mentioned their selection is closer to the authentic island poke. They have a nice amount of options and their quality is very good. The fish was fresh both times we ate there. I don't see how any of their food would even get the chance to go bad. Every time we stop by they have at least another 6-8people grab to go within the 5-10 mins we're there. That alone should tell you how good they are. Their customer service is fantastic. Was recommended to check this place out for some poke, and I must say this just wasn't for me. I can see why this place can be appealing - large portion sizes for a fairly cheap price for poke, but that's pretty much it. Think college-age me would enjoy it without question years ago, but nowadays it's a hard pass. Service - the lady at the cashier could not get my order right even when she was writing it down on a piece of paper. I was trying to order simply 2 combo plates however she kept getting confused, the manager had to come out of the back kitchen to help her out. And in the end she still input the wrong order on the receipt, but good thing both combo plates were the same price so I just let it be. Food - poke did not taste fresh in comparison to other places I've tried in the LA/OC area. Large portion sizes for sure. Also tried the chicken adobo and kalua pork which were greasy salt bombs...my mom makes it way better for sure. We didn't even finish our food cause we were worried we'd get sick from it (reading from past reviews it appears some people have). *COVID-specific and food handling practices - when I went last week, the cashier/staff were NOT WEARING GLOVES WHILE HANDLING THE FOOD!!! I think they even offer samples of the poke but don't even wear gloves. I already was committed to trying this place out when I witnessed it, but I definitely won't be coming back. They do wear masks though, but that doesn't change my opinion as a healthcare provider and with general common sense for safety. In conclusion, you get what you pay for. "Poke" places have spreading like the plague all over SoCal, and the vast majority of these places are beyond horrible. Those sad excuses of "poke" restaurants serve 10% fish and 90% filler crap with stuff that doesn't belong in poke like crispy onion strings and mangoes (case in point, Sweetfin poke, absolute crap). They let you sample the poke so you know what you want. For those of you aren't too adventurous try the spicy mayo, it's the most popular poke (it consists of ahi tuna, onions, sesame oil, soy sauce, Japanese mayo, sriracha, masago, and scallions). They give you a generous amount of poke on a bed of rice with furikake seasoning sprinkled on top. Ono grinds brah. If you don't feel like eating poke they have other Hawaiian cuisine from lau lau to kalua pork. And if that wasn't Hawaiian enough, they sell an array of goods from Hawaii like the kukui nut leis, Hawaiian Host chocolates, and Hawaiian Sun drinks. Its pretty obvious that anyone who gives this place less than 4 stars and complains about "toppings" has never had authentic poke before. Ignore their clueless reviews. I can't really say Poke Etc. is a game changer in the poke scene. Sure, they probably give you the most fish compared to all their competitors out there but there is something about the place that keeps me from giving them 4-5 stars. They only serve a handful of flavors and either tuna or salmon but do not serve both in every flavor. The Oyster and Sweet 'n Spicy (both served with tuna) are probably my favorites. The Oyster flavor is has a rich, sweet flavor contrasted by a hint of savoriness that definitely hits the spot for me. It's mixed with green onions to give it that crunchy texture. When ordering their Poke Bowl, you have the option of white or brown rice. They top it with a heaping portion of furikake but unfortunately, no other sides come with it. However, you can order them a la carte e.g. seaweed salad, yellow radish. It's probably not a spot I'd suggest you to go out of your way for but if you're looking for fresh ingredients that may not necessarily be of quality, moreso quality, then this is the perfect place for you. read more
