A friend brought me to this out of the way spot for lunch. The inside has a charming 50s soda shop/diner vibe with bright paraphernalia covering the walls. Very cute! We shared two specials: the catfish and shrimp mirlton casserole which were $11/12 a piece. Both came with peas, the canned version. Not my favorite but pleasant all the same. The catfish was excellent: fresh, crisp, not even the slightest bit greasy with cocktail and tartar sauces and potato salad on the side along with the peas. The shrimp mirlton was good but we were missing the zing of a bit more Cajun spice which would have elevated the dish. It was served with bucatini style mac and cheese which was a solid showing and an overly dressed side salad..The catfish was the star of the day. Overall a charming, frugal and filling lunch at a happy hole in the wall. I'd be glad to return.

Mirlton and shrimp, baked spaghetti, salad and pees.

Service was great. All the food was good especially the catfish. I even ate the peas even though I generally don't like peas. The Mirliton and shrimp stuffing could've used some Cajun seasoning. But it was all still good.

I'm kind of torn about The Point. This is a neat little lunch place in Harvey. They only serve lunch and close at 4. I met Dustin for lunch here, on his suggestion. They serve all kind of things from sandwiches and burgers to hot plates. It's cafeteria style, so you walk up and tell them what you want and they put it on a plate and you pay at the register and seat yourself. Not a bad setup for lunch. I decided to get a club sandwich with sweet potato fries and Dustin got one of the specials, which was fried chicken with salad, corn and mac and cheese. My sandwich was okay. It was nothing overly special, but I enjoyed it. The sweet potato fries were a nice touch. I was able to try some of Dustin's chicken and mac and cheese. It was super good and for a lunch, you really get your money's worth. I like the atmosphere of the whole place. The walls are decorated with Louisiana knick knacks and signs and the whole restaurant has a "50's diner" kind of feel. The staff was super nice and friendly. I think that I would go back and maybe try one of the hot meals that they offer. They also have burgers, so I might check that out too.

Meatball poboy, fried eggplant appetizer, hot sausage poboy.

Great place to go if looking for a true local, authentic experience. Food is off the chart. People very nice. My favorite was the fried eggplant appetizer. Home cooking, poboys and other sandwiches, seasonal options. Well worth the stop and would go again.

I would give it 3 1/2 stars This is a place in the Harvey Canal industrial corridor that we eat at for lunch when we get burnt out on Angelos. It is homestyle foods, white beans, hamburgersteak, tuna fish on croissants, fried trout and such. It is good. I rarely have time to eat in so its usually to go. There is alot of cool trappings to look at. Check out my pics That is what I enjoy about eating in. Ok, let me describe the ordering walking process.... Right when you walk in you will see an dry erease board with the specials. You then make your way down the line like a cafeteria and tell the nice ladies what you want. Then you pay at the end and they get your name and you take a seat. They bring out shortly, sometimes though you get it on the spot, just a matter of them scooping it and such. A little reminicant of Rocky and Carlos lunch ladies Good food no doubt. If you work in the area or it, your already familiar with it, if not and your close by, make sure to put it in your rotation. If you call them they will add your fax # to thier daily menu list. A plus! There is a big giant nice looking bar but im not sure if it is ever used?

$36 for 2 plate lunches and 2 pieces of pie. Great food, just enough to fill you up. Try the soft shell crab or red beans plate. Use to come here a lot when I was a kid. Support local business

Haven't had shepherd's pie since I was a Catholic school girl. This is absolutely delicious!

Nothing impressive. It's clean and employees are friendly besides the sandwich nazi lady.

It's always nice to find a place that offers a little something different instead of the usual tourist fare. I went with the Shrimp Carbonara, and the portion size was impressive. The dish was loaded with large, juicy shrimp and packed with flavor. It was one of those meals that looks great when it arrives and somehow tastes even better once you dig in. The service was quick, friendly, and kept everything moving smoothly, which was appreciated after a day of exploring. My only minor critique--and this is purely personal preference--would be that I would have preferred the shrimp tails removed. It certainly didn't take away from the meal, though. In fact, it led to one of the funniest moments of the trip when I squeezed a tail to remove it and accidentally launched it across the table toward one of my buddies. Thankfully, my aim was terrible, but the table got a good laugh out of it. Great food, generous portions, fast service, and a fun atmosphere. If you're looking for a solid meal while in New Orleans, Red Dog Diner is definitely worth a visit.

Every single thing was a star. One of the things I love about NOLA is you can get a crawfish cream sauce at five different places, every one of them equally delicious, and somehow none of them taste the same. Joey K's version is exactly why. The eggplant was perfectly crispy on the outside with a tender center, and that crawfish cream sauce tied everything together. The hamburger steak was cooked perfectly and covered in house-made brown gravy that tasted like somebody's grandma still has the recipe. Comfort food done right. The fried green tomatoes might have been my favorite. The batter had an unexpected little hint of sweetness that paired beautifully with the grilled shrimp and remoulade. The French bread came out fresh and exactly what you want with good butter. Service was a hit. The place was spotless as an old school place can be. And I always love seeing the Simon folk art signs on the walls, they're part of the Joey K's experience for me. We cleaned every plate, which tells you everything you need to know. When a table full of locals leaves with nothing but empty plates, that's about the best review you can give.

The interior was spacious and airy, with plenty of colorful artwork and signs all around. There was a Chalkboard with the specials of the day. From the specials menu, I ordered the Voodoo Catfish (full fried filet) with Crawfish Mac and cheese with seasonal vegetable, which was Sweet Peas. I also got a Cup of Jambalaya (half portion). The Catfish was absolutely delicious. It was oh so light, irresistibly crispy, flaky, and well seasoned. Mac and Cheese was satisfyingly cheesy with flavorful crawfish. Sweet Peas were cooked perfectly and just the right consistency with a slight pop of sweetness. Jambalaya had chicken, sausage, and shrimp. The dish could have used more shrimp and seasoning. Service was solid. Our waitress was welcoming and knew the menu well. Everything was very reasonably priced. I was so full at the end of the meal, I didn't have room for dessert, but would like to try the Blackberry Cobbler.

To start, this is not in a location I would ever have made it too without a Groupon. But I will be back! It's deep into an industrial area of Gretna facing the levee. It's not picturesque, but the interior (from what I could see through the window as they are closed for now due to Covid) looks like a fun, spacious almost retro dining area. We found the order window and rang the bell for service. One woman is handling orders and she gave us the option to call in to avoid standing in the rain but we gave our orders at the window. A lil poppa, big poppa and large potato wedges with honey bbq sauce ( DONT GET THE LARGE, it's craziness, small is plenty for two). The service was fast and we ate at the picnic benches under the over hang. Burgers were well seasoned and appropriately sized for the price/description). Good toppings, sauce and buns. I would love to try the onion rings, chicken and waffles and chicken sandwich. I'm impressed and would recommend this for all burger lovers!! Oh, and that deep fried bacon was perfectly delicious too! The value is there!!

I visited with a friend from Louisiana, who is now living in the DC area. We decided to splurge and try a few things. The Big Poppa Bacon Burger is a must! It's their signature burger. Big, grilled well, flavorful, soft bun, and plentiful bacon. We also sprang for their Louisiana Fried Chicken and Waffles. They did not disappoint. The chicken was tender and juicy and perfectly paired with the sweet waffle. As if we hadn't splurged enough, we ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake to wash it all down. This diner does not skimp on ingredients. Definitely a great place to visit and enjoy local fare. The only downside is that dining curbside is in a not so aesthetic area.
