Great sandwich shop - you order at the counter and then bring a table number with you as you find a seat. Service is friendly, fast, and they will bring ice water to you by default. We tried a few different types of sausages as well as the pork belly sandwich and the famous Pig Mac. All were delicious!
Walking into Cochon Butcher, one is immediately struck by something that is not always easy to achieve in the restaurant business: a palpable sense of professionalism. Everything appears carefully considered and efficiently executed. The layout is purposeful, the operation is remarkably well organized, the space is impeccably clean, and the presentation of the products is both attractive and inviting. The restaurant's steady stream of customers throughout much of the day is hardly surprising. There is an obvious rhythm and efficiency to the operation, yet it never feels rushed or chaotic. Instead, there is a sense that every component of the business has been thoughtfully orchestrated. The staff further reinforces this impression. They are exceptionally friendly, courteous, and accommodating, but what stands out most is their knowledge. They are able to answer questions, offer guidance, and navigate the extensive menu with confidence, making the experience both comfortable and enjoyable. And the menu itself is a destination. It offers an impressive range of choices, with an appealing variety of meats, sandwiches, sides, and beverages. There is far too much temptation to reasonably expect one visit to be sufficient. In fact, choosing what to order may be the most difficult part of the experience. Their version of the muffuletta an outstanding of the original. Particularly their version of the bread, which was fresh, and warmly toasted renders it a cut above. Cochon Butcher is therefore a restaurant best approached with the intention of returning. One visit gives you an introduction; several visits allow you to truly appreciate the breadth of what they do. The combination of organization, cleanliness, quality, knowledgeable service, and an extensive menu makes Cochon Butcher a particularly impressive example of how a busy restaurant can operate with both efficiency and character.
Cochon Butcher was definitely worth the stop! There was a line when we arrived, and seating is first come, first served, so be prepared to wait a little and get creative when finding a table. We noticed a guy sitting by himself and offered to buy him a beer if he'd let us join him at his table. He said yes, and it ended up being part of the fun experience! The food was excellent. We ordered the Cochon Muffaletta, which was huge, packed with flavor, and definitely a must-try. The mac & cheese is an absolute MUST--creamy, cheesy, rich, and easily one of my favorite things we ordered. The beer was great too and paired perfectly with the food. The atmosphere is casual, lively, and exactly the kind of place you want to experience while in New Orleans. 5/5 -- great food, great beer, and absolutely worth the visit. I would definitely come back!
Cochon the restaurant and Cochon Butcher are arguably two of the real heralds of authentic yet innovative Creole and Cajun cuisine right now. I cook a lot of both at home--I'm someone who is dedicated enough to my Louisiana cooking to order Steen's syrup from Louisiana to my Florida doorstep even though Florida makes perfectly good cane syrup in its own right. (Side note: any New Orleans restaurant you venture to serving pain perdu with maple syrup and not Steen's--ask what the hell they're even doing.) Like most worthwhile restaurants, the menu here changes up. The specials as well as their famous sandwiches seem the way to go and I got the fried shrimp with bread and butter pickles. Exceptional--a small amount, it may have even been a starter but regardless was perfect for me. The sandwiches other diners had on their plates were large and looked delicious just glancing around at other tables. Everything comes up fast and the atmosphere is . . . just ideally New Orleans. It feels all the way "working CBD lunch" yet unhurried, a reflection of Cochon's greatness but scaled down and with utterly no pretense. There's simply a real sense of both care and expertise in everything done here no matter how simple or complex. Beyond all else, they're doing what they love here with no scaling back or dressing up to make it anything else. A winner through and through.
Food: Got the Le Pig Mac, Fried Pork Chops (the daily special!), and Cajun Fried Ribs. Akin to the McDonald's special, the Pig Mac was exactly what the Big Mac should be. Juicy, thick, and opulent. The pork patties were softer and lighter than their beef counterpart but equally tasty. The Cajun fried ribs were the best part! Bite sized flavor blasts of Norlins! The fried pork chops were well executed and crispy complimented by the bed of beans and rice. Overall, a great meal! Service: Accommodating, efficient, and fast. Waters will be filled quickly and readily. Ambiance: Vibes of a casual eatery with a seat yourself style akin to a BBQ or taproom.
Really solid sandwich if you want to avoid the dining sit down experience next door at Cochon. I got the Gambino sandwich and also the fried shrimp appetizer and they were both delicious.

We ordered the black-eyed pea chili and the muffuletta, and the sandwich completely stole the show. The olive salad tied the whole thing together, complementing the rich, savory flavors perfectly. That being said, the space gets extremely crowded on busy days. It's tight enough that you'll likely have people bumping into your chair or brushing past you while you eat and walk through the dining room. The biggest downside was the service at the counter. The line to the cashiers was very disorganized. Instead of calling the next person in line, one cashier was pulling people up at random, which made the ordering process frustrating. Overall, the food is fantastic, but be prepared for chaotic crowds and a messy ordering system during peak hours.
I'll never get tired of this heaven sent spot. I make it a point to introduce everyone I know to Cochon Butcher, and even though I've reviewed it already, I'm updating my review because they continue to deserve the praise. Everything was disrespectfully delicious. Every bite had us questioning our life choices in the best way. By the end of the meal, we were all sleepy and completely defeated by how good the food was. The staff was on point, courteous, and polite. Our food came out hot, fast, and perfectly plated with consistency that never misses. My only small complaint is that the sweet potato habanero sauce isn't as thick as it used to be. I'm a little annoyed about that, but it still tastes exactly the same Cochon Butcher remains one of those must visit New Orleans spots that never disappoints. Great food, great service, and a place I'll always adore.
My husband and I came here Saturday night for a date night based on recommendations and had a good time. The place has a cool vibe to it and you walk up to order and then your food is brought out to you. My husband got the Le Pig Mac burger which is their take on a Big Mac and was really good! I ordered the Porchetta sandwich on Foccacia which was also tasty. We ordered the Mac N Cheese to share which was great and the duck pastrami sliders as well, but they were a bit underwhelming in size for the price, however tasted good. I also got their Rind & Shine which was their take on a French 75 and super delicious! Overall a good meal.
In town for a conference. Everyone was raving about this spot so we had to drop in. Super fast ordering and found an open table. It's a smaller inside dining area, but most spots in the area are the same. Food is fantastic. Ordered a burger and it came out really nice. Instead of fries, I went with the Brussels sprouts. Turned out great. Will definitely be back for more next time I'm in town.
Another gem in a city full of incredible food. After doing some research, this place came up on nearly every list of must-visit spots in New Orleans. It was definitely crowded when we arrived during lunch hour, but the experienced staff helped us find a table quickly, and we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably. We ordered the muffuletta -one of their specialties and something I was trying for the first time. It was a fantastic sandwich, and the portion size was generous. The cocktails were almost as good as the food, which says a lot. This place has earned its legendary reputation, and if you have the time, it's absolutely worth a stop.
While in town, I had to visit the other great spot for muffulettas. Here, these sandwiches are served warm, but more importantly, the meats are cured here. These meats make a great difference, as well as heating up these meats. But the goodness doesn't end there. This is a butcher shop and there is also a nice bar with draft beer with really great beer. I absolutely recommend a visit to the beer selection.
Street parking or walking. I've been to new orleans a bunch lately ive visited been here twice. There are always conventions or festivals going on so it can be busy and hard to find a seat. You find your own table inside or outside. Sides are separate order and price unless you order the special of the day amd it'll say what it comes with. 1st time ordered le pig. It was good, a little salty. But its not as tender as a beef burger. It was a nice change up. The pickles were good. We ordered some to go. ( take with you or they can ship to your house). The burger itself was filling to me. Rest of my party bbq pork and fish platter. Hush puppies were okay, they give so much. I could honestly do without it. Everyone was satisfied. 2nd visit ordered the porchetta . That was really good. Ordered a mac and cheese. It has breadcrumbs on top it comes in a small dish that i feel like is shareable. It wasn't bad actually ( ive had worse lol). One of the workers did really suggest it. I was willing to try it. It was edible, no cheese pull but also not just buttered noodles. Depending on my mood I might get it again. Porchetta and the leadership pig, I think the porchetta was better but both are great and filling.
This location was walking distance from my hotel and I came by with a few friends and this place did not disappoint. I got the Muffuletta (per amazing recommendation of the cashier at the front) which was a sandwich I had never tasted before. Also the vibe of this place was truly a butcher style location which was so cool. I travelled from Las Vegas to New Orleans and it was so cool to see the difference in the butchers and deli shops from back home. I wish I could have one of these every week! Delicious order at the counter spot. Yes, you do want to try everything on the menu. Ticket time was super quick and staff is attentive, even without full table service. Very casual spot, we had lunch there before a game. Get there early because it fills up quick! read more

This Michelin rated establishment earns all of its accolades, and then some. With meats prepared in-house, you won't a find a clicker its menu. But it's difficult for me to ever pass on the muffuletta, the best in town. It's a perfect size-substantial but not 2 meals in one. The combination of different meats blend perfectly and the olive spread complements, not overwhelms. Plus I love the side pickles! You order at the front counter and then take a table inside or out (or at the bar). Food is delivered promptly and the servers are always checking on your drinks. Really excellent ice tea by the way. Can be chaos but hey it's comforting even when it's loud. And there are no TVs, thank God. read more

I make it a point to introduce everyone I know to Cochon Butcher, and even though I've reviewed it already, I'm updating my review because they continue to deserve the praise. While in town, I had to visit the other great spot for muffulettas. Here, these sandwiches are served warm, but more importantly, the meats are cured here. Can't believe I never left a review for this place! I first visited back in 2019 because I had to try the Le Pig Mac, their twist on the classic but with pork, and it was absolutely delicious. Six and a half years later, I came back... and it was *still* just as delicious. Some things really do live up to the hype. There are actually two spots: Cochon Restaurant and Cochon Butcher, both are fantastic. Cochon Butcher has more of a casual, deli-style vibe where you can seat yourself if dining in or order at the counter for takeout. Perfect for a laid-back but seriously tasty meal. If you're heading to The Big Easy, do yourself a favor and add this to your must-visit list. You won't regret it. read more
The place looks like a trendy butcher. Super cute and stylish. The staff at the counter and the wait service are all amazing. You order at the counter and then your waiter brings your food. B & B pickles were very good. The Cuban was also really good but I had something very spicy on the end which I was not prepared for. My fellow diner liked his muffuletta. We got potato salad and Cole slaw for sides and the potato salad was my favorite. My daughter got the Mac & cheese and is hard to please. Total bill was $92 which is a little pricy for lunch with no alcoholic beverages. read more
Friend had heard rave reviews of this place so we checked it out. I ended up getting the BBQ pork sandwich which is a pulled pork sandwich. Pretty good, but honestly nothing more special than any other pulled pork sandwich I've had at comparable restaurants. Gf got the Fried Louisiana shrimp which is similar to the shrimp found in po boys around town. Not bad, crispy outside with tender inside. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Otherwise, a good meal but nothing particularly stands out. I will say that we don't eat meat much but still, I felt like it was an average meal. read more
I love this place! One of my top places in New Orleans to eat. Beat Cubano sandwich I've EVER eaten. Seriously. Perfection. The muffaletta was highly recommended and delicious but that Cubano still has my heart. The seeet pickles hit the spot too. I'd order it to ship to Denver if I could. The ribs were amazing. Shrimp was great. Duck sliders were tasty. Hogwash was very special and I fell in love. I wish I could this meal every day. We came for lunch and got lucky with two seats in the back bar. The line was out the door for good reason. It cleared out by the time we left and we got to see the lard and boudin to go. Love the Star Wars touches. I cannot wait to come back and I recommend this place to anyone who asks about our Nola trip. Good stuff! read more

The ribs were fantastic, probably our favorite. The pretzel was also great, but wished for a different sauce. Perhaps a ranch or cheese based would be better? The mufaletta sandwich was good, and is quite large. We split it between two people and were quite full. The only thing we didn't love was the red velvet cake. It was dry and left an odd flavor in our mouth like it was old. Service was extremely fast which was great after a long day at the museum! Sat outdoors at the nice seating areas and was pleasant. read more
A revelation between two buns. Cochon Butcher is everything a higher end sandwich shop should exemplify, from its setup to its menu. The interior is refined, yet rustic, settling somewhere between a butcher shop and modern restaurant. The line is long but moves quickly (10 min wait to order); the menu is straightforward and yet detailed. You have the options of a dozen sandwiches, a variety of sausages/meats, and a few smaller plates. We settled on their Porchetta and Butcher Burger, which were brought out pretty quickly considering how busy it was and our table size being around 10. There is also a bar in the back if you would like a few drinks alongside your meal. Speaking of, it was remarkably easy to find seats accommodating our party size despite not having a reservation heading in. The Porchetta was hands down one of the best sandwiches we've ever eaten in our lives. Salty, some kick from the chili-marinated rapini, and a very good focaccia bread. Likewise, the burger was fantastic. The patty was delicious, seasoned perfectly with the cheese melting on top with a soft bun. The quality of the meats here is extremely high. We were originally a bit skeptical because of the price of the food, but we understand now that this is no gimmick or day-old meat you're eating, it's the real stuff. Add into the fact that they have a fantastic house hot sauce on the table and you're just swimming in flavors. Others in our group ordered their pulled pork, mac and cheese, and duck pastrami sliders; all of which were fantastic and got heaps of praise. Cochon has set a new standard in what we look for in sandwiches. The concept of a sandwich is centuries old, always staying what some would call "safe". This place challenges that norm and sets you up for bold flavors with passion and care behind them. It is shocking to us that this place is only a Bib Gourmand. Easily could be starred. You should run here, right now, no matter where you are. read more

If you're looking for a place to get a smattering of tasty New Orleans favorites at a decent price with a fun, casual atmosphere, come to Cochon Butcher. My friend and I sat outside at their benches and were joined by another pair of women and a friendly dog while we enjoyed all the yummy things we got. First up was the muffaletta. Now I must start by saying this is the first and only muffaletta I've ever had so I don't know what to compare it to but my only notes for this was that it was so salty that it was hard to finish. I ate one triangle and my tongue felt like a raisin - BUT I did enjoy the leftovers warmed up as it didn't seem as salty. The bread is nicely toasted and I do want to try this again. We also tried the hot boudin, brussels, shrimp, and mac and cheese. All were quite good and left us with empty plates by the end. The sweet pickles served with the boudin and muffaletta were also a highlight so don't ignore those! read more

A group of us stopped by for a late lunch on a Saturday. The place was crowded with hungry folks braving the unusually cold temps. There are both smaller and larger tables available and you seat yourself after ordering and getting a number. The Mexican Cokes paired nicely with the absolutely delicious Cuban sandwiches and potato salad. A few folks got their mac n cheese and it was phenomenal. These people are doing something really special with meats here and you probably can't go wrong with anything on their menu. read more

The place was nice. You could tell they take pride and in their craft. The food was good, I got fish, they said it was the whole fish, but it was only half of the deboned fish. But it seasoned soooo well, I decided not to make a fuss. No sides come with the dinner, and they didn't have a basic salad. So if you aren't pescatarian, this isn't the place for you. My coworkers loved all of their food. And the drinks they were served. The hospitality was phenomenal ! read more
Wowser. The sandwiches are amazing. They have beer in a full bar and several other items as well. They do have some sidewalk seating. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you. You do have a server for any additional items, such as drinks. They were very attentive. I had the Cuban sandwich and it was fantastic. My wife had the muffaletta, which was also good, but mine was better. Everything on the menu looked great. You could smell the place from a block away. You can get it to go as well. I also got the Boudin as an appetizer which I totally didn't need because it was too much food. Also delicious. read more
Really good bbq in NO! Was told to stop by this place and grab 2 items. Le Pig Mac and Cajun Pork Dog. Mane! This was a Smokey goodness burger that was spot on Big Mac-ish! But Smokey and tons of flavor. The Cajun dog had a nice small kick to it that was flavorful and just the right amount of spice! This was a great location with plenty of people to give it a hang out spot vibe. Service was on point and friendly. read more

If you're in New Orleans and have time for one sandwich, make it the Cubano at Cochon Butcher. It was, without question, the best Cubano I've ever had. This spot came highly recommended from several people I chatted with at my hotel. So I stopped here for dinner one night to check it out. Upon arriving, I realized the place is split into two separate parts. There's the restaurant part and there's the butcher shop part. Since I was by myself and wasn't feeling crowds, I stepped into the butcher shop. The restaurant was packed to the brim and sounded festive so maybe next time, I'll do that. But the butcher shop was where I did the deeds at. Upon entering, I was greeted by someone behind the counter who gave me time to scan the menu. I knew the muffeletta sandwich was a popular item so decided on one of those and also added a side of potato salad and some hot boudin (comes with spicy pickles and a side of dijon). Also got a hot flamingo IPA to wash it all down. Everyone came out at once pretty quickly. Upon eating, the food was alright but overhyped in my opinion. The potato salad was similar to what you could find at grocery stores. The boudin had some kick and good flavor but at $8 was overpriced. The muffeletta was tasty with good bread but I kept thinking there's got to be better ones out there than this. It is a huge sandwich so I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Surprisingly the flavor held up the next day so didn't miss a beat on that. I liked the IPA that was paired with it; shoutout the person at the front for recommending it. The inside area has several high top tables and a bar area. It has a open window where you can see the food get placed up for delivery to wherever you're sitting at. Since it's a butcher shop, they serve boudin and other meats/cheeses by the pound too. I'd be open to stopping here again; definitely will try the restaurant. Hopefully I can get a spot there given popularity. read more

Awesome spot near the conference center! I've gone here TWICE now for conferences and I think it'll become a staple. Service is so friendly and turnover is quick so theres always table space. What I got: - cajun fried ribs (6/5) - SO tender its fall off the bone! Juicy and spiced so well. The creamy sauce on the side was also delicious. - side of coleslaw (5/5) - i wanted a side of veggies and the coleslaw was the perfect option! I love Cochon Butcher! Super lively and delicious! There's also always a line, but it was short and easy enough to get a table after ordering. The servers are super super nice, as well. My friends and I tried the duck pastrami sliders, Brussels sprouts, fried shrimp, and le pig mac. The fried shrimp were super tasty and the le pig mac is as delicious as I remember it from previous trips. I'm thinking I might have to go there once more before I leave. I really enjoyed Cochon Butcher during my visit to New Orleans! It had the lovely perk of being open late while continuing to serve proper food. We ordered at the counter with the friendly staff, then found an open table and waited with our number. My friend and I tried the gambino sandwich, fried shrimp, duck pastrami sliders, and pea soup. The sandwich was like a classic Italian - good, nothing super unique. The duck pastrami sliders - while praised a lot on here - didn't have any of the characteristic richness or flavor of duck. It mostly just tasted like meat. Still, it was great. The portion sizes were somewhat small. Nevertheless, we chose an array of great local flavors and I would consider coming back if I were in town again! read more

I believe most of their items have some type of pork in it. I would def double check with them to see exactly which items contain exactly what.
Does the butcher shop open til closing? or does it close early?
The butcher shop opens a little later than the restaurant, but closes at the same time daily. Usually 10pm or 11pm.
Is there usually a long wait for a table?
I was there two different days around noon. You order at the counter and then sit down. I never saw a wait for a table, but most of the tables were full both times. They also have seating at the bar.
How would a 18mo do here?
Just fine, it's a pretty casual restaurant and it's pretty loud, so a baby wouldn't distract too much from the atmosphere.
