Went in, got a table and we all ordered. I ordered the half muffalatta with the olive salad on the side. Everyone's food came out great except for my muffalatta. The olive salad was on the sandwich and the bread was saturated with oil. I sent it back only to be told that they were out of muffalatta bread, so I want something else? No, thank you! I love this little poboy shop. They are one of the only places in the city that offer a panned anything. I look for panned and no one does it! It is a New Orleans thing that was the style of ya momma's cooking! Anyway, that was good and the shrimp were good. I told my mom about it and she went there for lunch with a friend a couple of times. The place is kind of a hole in a wall with a decent amount of seating inside. You can call ahead and pick up to go, you can order at the bar (about 6 stools), or you can dine in. They have plenty of good poboy and seafood dishes to choose for and all reasonably priced. Note that this wonderful place closes early, like 5 or 6, but it is open on Saturday. Keep doing what you're doing and I will be back! read more

The food here is generally very good, though consistency can vary from visit to visit. When it is on point, it is excellent. The onion rings, in particular, stand out - they remained delicious even after cooling down and reheated surprisingly well, which says a lot about their quality. Service has also been solid and friendly overall. One drawback is the very limited parking, which can be a challenge and something to plan for ahead of time. Ordered a burger and fries. Burger seemed to be a frozen patty thrown on the grill. It had a strong grilled taste. I decided I wanted extra mayo on it. There was a squeeze bottle on the table. After I opened the lid, I decided I had enough mayo on my burger. The lid was NASTY! As I was putting the mayo back on the table against the wall where it was, I noticed the wall. It had food (probably gravy of some sort) splattered on it. I then noticed the painting was also splattered. Totally lost my appetite. The fries are coated. If you like coated fries, then you will like these. I just want potatoes, not stuff added to make them crunchy. My husband ordered the pork chop poboy. It was generous in size. However, it seemed to be a frozen pork patty, not a fresh pork chop like he expected. This was our first time eating here. Not sure if we we'll be back. read more

I live right next to this establishment and I don't go enough. They have an extensive menu with specials, nice seating area (the shop next door is also good but doesn't offer this), a full bar, and some of the best alligator po-boys I've ever had. The fries are crispy and delicious as well. The staff is friendly and efficient so it's a great lunch spot even if you're in a rush. I always take my visitors here for a lunch spot in the neighborhood. read more

The establishment is very nice & so is the staff! It appeared to be very clean as well. When I went, I ordered the shrimp on bun with added cheese and grilled onions, small fries & a sprite. The total came up to $22 and some change. I wasn't a fan of the fries, honestly, because I didn't enjoy the way they were fried.. it was too crunchy for me (but not in a burnt crunchy way, maybe they have batter on their fries). The sandwich was good, it tasted like a traditional shrimp on bun. However, the cheese and grilled onion really set it off for me!! It took it up a level! I just was turned off by the fact that some of the shrimp were deveined and some weren't. For that reason I won't reorder it. Everything was very fresh and didn't take too long for me to receive. I'm ashamed to say I only recently heard about Central Poboys even though they have been around for over a decade. Central Poboys has some amazing burgers, like their roast beef debris burger, and their poboys are really large. They also have a great selection of daily specials and then you don't want to miss their dessert options. Overall this is a great spot to get your poboy or burger hunger totally destroyed with huge portions and great flavor. I found this place pleasing, clean with a great staff. I got the fried chicken and it was a little overcooked with very little batter. My nephew got a burger and it was also overcooked. Nothing special. I onion rings, although we didn't get any, looked great. The fried seafood looked good too. I will give it another try soon. Maybe we will make better food choices. read more

We were always curious about this place because we pass by often and when it is open, there's lots of cars... they are open only Monday through Friday from 11am to 3pm. Yes, they have limited hours but it is a MUST TRY kind of place. Their staff is super friendly, the place is really cool and the food is OH MY! We tried the onion rings and they are definitely the best onion rings in town. We also tried the burger and shrimp poboys and they were also extremely good. Caught a craving for a po-boy, and had an appointment at a nearby place. So I let Yelp guide me here. Special on the menu today includes an alligator sausage po-boy. Well. I guess that settles that. Atmosphere seems like a dive at first, but it's very clean with a rustic look. The server taking my order threw me off a little asking if I wanted lettuce, tomato, and mayo. I suppose they've had too many out-of-towners who didn't know what "dressed" meant. The sandwich was good - crusty Leidenheimer bread and a good sausage (split and grilled nicely). Hard to tell alligator sausage from pork, but it was good. Tomatoes were a little scarce on the sandwich, but overall it was good. The fries were perfectly cooked - perfectly brown and crispy. Nothing to say but perfect. Service was a bit inattentive but not bad, really. Certainly something worth coming back for if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Went for lunch and the food was delicious! I ordered the lunch special; red beans and rice with sausage. Beans were good and sausage was grilled nicely. The service was speedy and the server was polite. As expected the ambiance was typical for a lunchtime crowd. It was busy and people were in and out. Our go to place for great poboys from roast beef to shrimp or catfish. If you want something a little lighter/healthy, they have great salads. Grilled chicken salad or a grilled shrimp salad is always a great choice. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Since the hurricane, the have cut back on their hours and not open on Saturday. Hope this is just temporary. We definitely love this place. Give them a try. read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive down the street but it's a good choice for when you're hungry before 6pm . Alligator sausage Poboy was great, French roll was fluffy and crunchy on the outside. Seafood gumbo was great and mildly spicy Tasty but I think it might be a little overpriced for some standard & well-done food. read more

This is a nice neighborhood restaurant. Ordered the shrimp basket and we were served a huge potion of fried shrimp. Not a lot of seasoning in the batter, but the shrimp were nice sized and not greasy. Well done. We also had a bowl of chicken sausage gumbo. The sausage is not very seasoned or flavorful. The gumbo had very weak, or no roux. It was an anemic gumbo. Kind of disappointing. Strangely, the French bread had a crab boil flavor in the butter. Flavor in the bread, but very little in the gumbo. Service was superb. Pricing is reasonable. read more

I was having a craving for a Poboy after work on Friday this week so I stopped in on my ride home from Elmwood. I did a quick Yelp search of Poboys and came across Central Poboys which had good reviews and was close by. The restaurant is on Central Ave. (Duh, it is the name of the place) and in the middle of a weird mix of commercial, industrial and residential buildings. The restaurant is small but big enough to have a bar and 10 or so tables. The menu is the basic po-boy list, I didn't see anything crazy or gourmet that a lot of newer poboy joints have. I walked up to the bar to place my order and was instantly surprised with the amount of daily specials. They do a lot more than just poboys, but that's what I was wanting this day. I ordered a small Ferdi (ham and roast beef) and a small order of onion rings but what I got was a large of each. A fat boy like me certainly isn't going to complain about that! The Ferdi was really good with the roast beef having the right amount of flavor and gravy without being overly messy. The bread was a little hard but that can be normal with the Leidenheimer bread( I assume that's what this was). The onion rings are thinly sliced and really good. I'll definitely be back when I want my poboy fix or those great onion rings. Next time I may actually sit at the bar, drink a beer and enjoy a daily special instead. They are open 11-6pm, so lunch and early dinner only during the week. read more

This is a small restaurant that is always busy. They have different specials everyday along with the regular menu. They open at 11 and are only open until 6 according to their door. #comeearlyorwaitforatable We ordered a alligator sausage poboy with fries and a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. #hugeportionsizes The amount of food you get is unreal. If you leave hungry after eating here I am not sure what to say! Parking is available in the small lot but fills quickly. You then need to find street parking which is tough at times. Alright, so anyone who knows me, knows of my love of a good Po-Boy.. The quintessential New Orleans cuisine, this not to be missed delicacy never ceases to excite the palate and senses. And my go-to Po-Boy is the Ham and Roast Beef with Debris Gravy, fully dressed of course, often called "The Fergie". My first time at Central Poboys and I ordered my favorite. The 12" Fergie, dressed like I love it. And this one did NOT disappoint. It arrived in all of its overstuffed glory. Brimming with what can only be described as a very generous portion of both Ham and Roast beef, gravy and Swiss Cheese. The gravy, was almost the best I've had and the bread was the perfect ratio of absorbency and slight snap to the crust. The dressing of lettuce, tomato and May was not so much that they overtook the show, but merely accentuated the experience. I ate half for lunch that day, and could eat no more. Had the other half the next lunch and was equally stuffed. My associate had the Sausage po-Boy and the sausage was sublime, slightly smoky, great texture and very filling as well. I will defiantly be going here for a Po-Boy in my near future. Hell, I may even become a regular. Give these folks a try, and I am certain that you too will be singing their praises. What are Debris Fries your ask? Well, come here and order some and you'll see. My father in law ordered Debris Fries and when the server plopped them down, I was grossed out at first but found myself intrigued at the same time. There was a pile of roast beef and sauce covering white cheese that looked like mashed potatoes over fries. I dug my fingers in and grabbed some fries with stringy cheese and thought it was delish. Then came the HUGE Grilled Chicken Club Salad and Roast Beef Po' Boy dressed and split. The sandwich was also HUGE. These people don't kid around with their portions. The Po' Boy was really good though the French bread was a tad too soft. It didn't have a crunchy outer crust. The salad was fresh and the Chicken was nicely seasoned and grilled well.
