I love these kind of places!! I'd rather eat here than Commanders Palace any day of the week! Hole in the wall vibes, owner posted up behind the register taking cash and running things. Little ladies in the kitchen pumping out that New Orleans food vibe. I came with a partner of mine who is local. He wasn't sure about my affinity with these kind of joints. He told me Koz's whole story. How he started working in the city for someone else and ended up owning the place when she retired. That spot was destroyed by Katrina and this spot was born from that loss. My boy seemed to know everyone that came in and out so that was cool to feel almost like a local. I had white beans and rice, with a two piece dark fried chicken. It was cheap and absolutely delicious. I had never had white beans with rice before and I will be damned if that wasn't some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. White beans were said to be spiced exactly as the Red Beans, but I'm not so sure about that. I just picked up NOLA as a part of my work territory so there will be way many more experiences to come from the Big Easy. The more time I spend here, the more I am convinced it's unlike anywhere else in the US, maybe the world. I am becoming a big fan of the culture, but the streets can completely kiss my ass! It's like driving on the moon! Craters everywhere! Anyway. I am sure I will find my way back here eventually. '26 - 104 read more

We worked up an appetite shopping at the outlet stores and I remembered eating there years ago. Even though it was lunch on a Saturday, we were able to get a table. I ordered a 4 inch roast beef dressed on French bread and snacked on some of the side of fries we ordered. The French bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The roast beef was cooked well and the gravy was delicious. It was a solid poboy! read more

We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Right away the owner embraced as family! This down home place is just what you would expect from Louisiana. We ordered shrimp with sides the most amazing gumbo and bread pudding, a kid's Red beans and sausage with sweet cornbread that rocked!, and a huge shrimp po-boy. The food was over the moon good and everyone was so friendly. Most of the folks there were regulars and we made friends so easily. We will be back. read more

Not so great. Meatballs are way over seasoned. The Cuban bread was mushy. Maybe we just picked the wrong items.

Food is great I love the red beans and rice, white beans and rice, chicken parmigiana and meatballs. read more

Great local spot , good southern Cajun cooking, everything went well for me, was quick and very tasty

The Chamber of Horrors is my absolute favorite sandwich ever! It's just a cold sandwich stacked with sliced meats and cheese and lettuce, tomato, etc. but it strikes a chord with me. Every time I go I tell myself to try something different but most times I wind up getting one. And a side of fries. I have tried other things and have never found anything to complain about. Koz's is a great example of the neighborhood restaurants that are scattered throughout New Orleans and the area. Place has been there forever. The family is running the business. He has passed away, but Koz himself was running the cash register every time I went there. Same crowd of regulars and locals is in there every day. A wide variety of menu items, daily specials, plate lunches, po-boys, fried seafood, and all that. Not all of it is good, but for the most part it is. Downsides - the place is old so it is a little dark and dingy. It gets crowded at times and then the service gets slow. The parking is scarce around but you can usually find a spot. Give them a shot. This is one place that I keep going back to. (If I want a Chamber of Horrors I do!) read more

This is a small mom and pop joint in Harahan. It has that traditional old school seafood/deli spot feel. I come here for lunch here and there. Everything I've had here has been good. Never had a problem here. I call ahead so service for me is always quick. read more

It's a very homey-type mom & pop place. Mr. Koz himself was at the register checking people out. Very friendly guy. It was busy for a Friday evening but the wait wasn't long for hot food. The food was an 8.5/10 minus the sweet cabbage. I didn't really eat that. The ettoufee was standard & good. Rice was nicely cooked & grilled catfish was a hit. The shrimp poboy with the seasoned fries was a solid 9/10. Very enjoyable! Very nice experience read more

I ordered a regular roast beef, thinking 1/2 for lunch, other half for dinner. I'm pretty sure I was served a small. No way that was 14 inches! Roast beef was very chewy. Disappointed. read more

There's a reason Koz's has been around for years. A quaint neighborhood treasure. Good food & service. Daily specials. Affordable.

This is a WORTHWHILE destination. Hubby was craving fried shrimp ( 2 days after Thanksgiving - go figure). We were in Elmwood so we made a beeline for Koz's. I got the poboy, he got the plate. We got a side of onion rings. OMG. Crazy good. Thin ribbons of fried onion goodness. The poboy was perfection and DH was more than happy with his choice. This place is so reminiscent of the family jernts we grew up going to. So incredibly glad its real and not just a memory like so many of the others. Do yourself a favor, just go. You're welcome. read more

The lunch specials are very good value for the price. The prices are extremely reasonable, in my opinion. Service is good and my only complaint is that they are super busy and could use a LOT more seating. When we work in the area, my whole crew usually eat at Koz's. It's a pretty basic set up. read more

This place looks a little off the beaten path. Parking was fine. The street was lined with cars when we went in and absolutely empty when we left (20-30 minutes inside), so definitely a poppin' place for lunch for locals, I assume. I got the fish poboy with no mayo so the bread was a bit dry, but the fish was moist and smooth and delicious and cooked to perfection! Combine that with the average shredded lettuce and tomato slice and we've got a pretty good sandwich! Gumbo was also good. Wasn't a fan of the hard greasy slice of toast it came with though. The ambiance is causal. Seems like everyone knows everyone. The bathroom was a little danky but it served its purpose. There's a corner sectioned off with signs saying you're not allowed in unless you're 18 or 21 (I forgot) ... not sure if a joke or they've got some adult games back there! Who knows!! read more

I had my hopes up for this & I'm partly disappointed. My sandwich was perfect. I ordered a Half oyster half shrimp poboy. My daughter's shrimp poboy was terrible. The bread was flat & hard, she could barely bite into it. I had to press the edges to see what she was complaining about. Totally not the same bread as my sandwich. I gave her my half of shrimp while I toast some French bread that I stored in the freezer. I hope they do better in the future because I'm not close enough to take it back for a refund or exchange. read more

Lady behind the counter was a sweetheart. Got the shrimp poboy and it was delicious - absolutely stacked with fried shrimp.

Always a great meal. Have had many porous and many plate lunches. Only 2 poboys i didn't care for is their burger poboy and smoked sausage poboy. Burger poboy tastes like outsourced frozen meat. I can tell it isn't made in house. Smoked sausage poboy is skimpy. They take 1 link, cut it in half and put it on the sandwich. Thats it. Add a link, will ya? Other than thise 2, the place is great. read more

Huge fan of Koz's! It's the true definition of a hole in the wall with great food like no other. They have a fairly large menu filled with daily specials, all sorts of poboys, salads, and Cajun dishes. They have local beers and a self serve fountain drink machine. The staff is super friendly and inviting and the food quality is always consistent and top notch! Definitely the perfect place for lunch with co-workers or dinner with the family! The gumbo was rich and filled with ingredients. The shrimp Creole was absolutely loaded with huge shrimp and was a fairly large portion. Give this place a shot, it's well worth the drive! read more

Great meatloaf special on Tuesday. Haven't gone any other days, but I'll give it a try. Waitress is a real nice lady.

Another of the many family seafood restaurants in the metro area. And its just not seafood. They have a great selection of poor boy sandwiches and hot plates. You walk up to the counter, study the menus on the walls, and place your order. Then find a table, and go over to the side counter to pour your own drinks before sitting down. Most of the time I order either the shrimp poor boy or the fried shrimp plate. On the most recent visit, I had the plate with sides of fries and Italian green beans, along with a piece of toasted french bread. The shrimp came out crisp from the fryer. Just as I like them. My wife caused some problems as she ordered a 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 fish poor boy without the bread, dressed on the side. The poor lady taking the order was all confused. Why was she ordering a poor boy without the bread? (She didn't want the the carbs from the bread and wasn't hungry enough for a full plate.) Anyway, we finally convinced her that we knew what we were doing. My wife was real happy with the catfish as it was crisp and light. And nibbled on my sides. Nothing fancy or pretentious about this place, just good food at fair prices. What else can you ask for from a neighborhood restaurant? read more
