Great poboys and fried chicken here for lunch today! My report: https://blainerestaurantreport.wordpress.com/2026/04/11/kozs-harahan-la-report-997/

Shrimp with gumbo and banana pudding

We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Right away the owner embraced as family! This down home place is just what you would expect from Louisiana. We ordered shrimp with sides the most amazing gumbo and bread pudding, a kid's Red beans and sausage with sweet cornbread that rocked!, and a huge shrimp po-boy. The food was over the moon good and everyone was so friendly. Most of the folks there were regulars and we made friends so easily. We will be back.

The Chamber of Horrors is my absolute favorite sandwich ever! It's just a cold sandwich stacked with sliced meats and cheese and lettuce, tomato, etc. but it strikes a chord with me. Every time I go I tell myself to try something different but most times I wind up getting one. And a side of fries. I have tried other things and have never found anything to complain about. Koz's is a great example of the neighborhood restaurants that are scattered throughout New Orleans and the area. Place has been there forever. The family is running the business. He has passed away, but Koz himself was running the cash register every time I went there. Same crowd of regulars and locals is in there every day. A wide variety of menu items, daily specials, plate lunches, po-boys, fried seafood, and all that. Not all of it is good, but for the most part it is. Downsides - the place is old so it is a little dark and dingy. It gets crowded at times and then the service gets slow. The parking is scarce around but you can usually find a spot. Give them a shot. This is one place that I keep going back to. (If I want a Chamber of Horrors I do!)

Shrimp ettoufee with grilled catfish. Cabbage on the side & a shrimp poboy

It's a very homey-type mom & pop place. Mr. Koz himself was at the register checking people out. Very friendly guy. It was busy for a Friday evening but the wait wasn't long for hot food. The food was an 8.5/10 minus the sweet cabbage. I didn't really eat that. The ettoufee was standard & good. Rice was nicely cooked & grilled catfish was a hit. The shrimp poboy with the seasoned fries was a solid 9/10. Very enjoyable! Very nice experience

The Roma is probably my favorite because it is more savory. The positano was a little sweeter than I expected with the fig jam. I love the fig jam. Both sandwiches were great and you can't go wrong Price is pricey Bread is oily Parking is street and somewhat difficult to find, had to walk 2 blocks Only has about 3 small tables to sit outside, otherwise you're out of luck. I took it to go since there was no seating. Overall, I'd definitely come back. I think half a sandwich per person would suffice instead of a whole next time. It still tasted good after being in the fridge for a day.

The prosciutto was heavenly, the sweetness of the fig spread coupled with the spicy Calabrian chilis is out of this world. Sooo good! Mike had the Pisa. Despite the chicken being a perfectly thin cotoletta (yes, I have been taking Italian lessons for the past year ) it was still moist and crispy. The sauce was wonderful and the mozzarella was melted to form the most delightful sandwich. We had planned to get back over there before we left town but failed to. Alas, another reason to come back to NOLA This place is not an eat in establishment but has 3 tables outside for you to enjoy your sandwiches. The young lady who took our order was friendly and pleasant and one of the owners (the mom) chatted with us. Our experience was wonderful. It reminded us of our visits to sandwich shops in Firenze. Panini deliziosi!
