My husband and I arrived at 6:20pm for dinner to see that the lights and TV were both on, but the door was locked and no employee was to be found to actually unlock/open the restaurant. Ended up walking by the restaurant again around 6:30 and found the door was finally unlocked. Figured we'd give the restaurant a try. The vibe has a really cute mom & pop kind of feel to it. Cibo changed ownership recently (post-pandemic). When I went back, it just wasn't the quality it was previously. Very sad about this. Edit: I got the Sicilian sandwich and it didn't have much flavor. There were fewer ingredients and meat than previously and the food was generally lackluster. The previous owners knew everyone by name and would greet you with a smile. Disclosure: in my teens, I dated a girl who grew up cooking with her immigrant Italian grandmother. She was an amazing cook and ruined me for Italian food. There's only one Italian restaurant in the U.S. that I've eaten at the clears the bar, and it's NOT in NOLA. ----------- So this review is both overdue and timely. I first ate here about five years ago--definitely pre-pandemic--and the second time today. Five years ago, we had two cars full of family from out of town, and we were looking for tasty take-out in the way home from the zoo. We ordered a variety of sandwiches, including a chicken Parmesan, chicken Toscani, and Hot Combo Panini. The sauce on the Chicken Parmesan was a little on the sweet side, but everything else was executed excellently. In the end, we decided it everything was a little expensive for what we got, so that was the end of it. Today, we circled back around for a post-pandemic retry, enjoying lunch outside in the cooler weather. This time we had a significantly smaller group of three and ordered the Meatball Parmesan sandwich, spaghetti with meatballs, and a daily special of Corned Beef Reuben. Meatball Parmesan sandwich: perfect bread--toasted, crusty, and substantive--gave crunchy bites without scraping up the roof of the mouth, no sogginess from the sauce, and in good balance with the fillings. The sauce is still really sweet which was problematic with meatballs on the sweeter side as well. Good construction looked and felt substantive. Price was fair. Spaghetti with Meatballs: I want to say these are the same meatballs and sauce as in the sandwich, but the dish was cloyingly sweet with faint fishy (old tacklebox) notes. Hands down, the worst dish today. Overpriced at any price. Corned Beef Reuben: I was informed ten minutes after ordering that they were out of Russian dressing and didn't have any thousand island. I was not offered a substitution and stated preferences for other sandwiches were deflected. The resulting sandwich was hot corned beef and melted provolone on toasted rye--NOT what I would have picked at an Italian deli if it hadn't been the special of the day. The marbled rye was toasted to PERFECTION and the corned beef was flavorful and perfectly sliced. I'm just miffed that I couldn't have a proper special of the day at 1pm--three hours into the day. Still, it was fairly priced for what I got--it just wasn't what I wanted. The Redemption: we were comped off-menu desserts, which were better than the on-menu spaghetti and meatballs. Actual concern for the customer: priceless, even if it missed the target. Probably won't be back for a few years since there are several restaurants nearby in the same price range that execute their respective cuisines better. read more

I have not eaten in the restaurant so this review is limited to the takeout of CIBO. 1. Lox Bagel: Unfortunately, the top of my everything bagel was burnt (the seasoning and edges). How this was approved to be sent out I'm not sure. The cream cheese and lox tasted fine but since the bagel was not properly baked, I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest. I understand mistakes are made and would be willing to try it again. 2. Sicilian sandwich. This was good! Paired with the marinara was the right choice, however I ordered the combo and my pasta salad was missing. I was looking forward to trying it. Overall, this place has potential but when food is being sent out, there needs to be an extra set of eyes. I like the idea of Cibo. It's more of a "hoagie" style sandwich place which is not usually my preference. That said, variety is the spice of life and cibo has a good meat selection, the ingredients are flavorful and salamis seem freshly sliced. Sandwiches come with a little pasta salad side. Normally like them and have good experiences. Tried to order a pick up order over the phone. The worker on the line couldn't remember anything I was saying and I had to repeat myself many times to ensure it was taken correctly. I get there after 30 min like I was told, asked for my order, and was told they don't have it. Then had to wait for 45 minutes (in an empty restaurant) for the food. Long ago I tried a muffuletta at a Schlotzsky's (called the Muffalotza). For those of you who don't know, Scholotzsky's is a deli/sandwich chain mostly in Texas. That experience scarred me deep inside and I avoided muffulettas like the plague. Then I recently came across one in the desert which some cartographers refer to as the hospital cafeteria. It was actually quite amazing. I don't know if New Orleans changed my taste buds or New Orleans just does it better even in a hospital cafeteria (probably the latter), but my repulsed feelings for muffulettas turned into lust. So that's how I ended up at CIBO. I got the hot combo panini affectionately labeled as "Cibo's version of the muffaletta" in the menu and the girlfriend got the meatball parmigiana sandwich. We called ahead and they said the order would be ready in 20 minutes. They have a very quaint restaurant. You walk into a very New Orleans looking building on the outside, and inside it's like you're walking into a New York City deli. Not much seating inside but there is nice seating out in the front to take in the beautiful East Carrollton area. We were a touch disappointed that they had small baggies of Ruffles-like chips because they were out of their pasta salad, but no big deal. When we got home we split the sandwiches and ate a half of each. The hot combo panini was unassuming, a bit small about a fork's length, just laying there flat in some butcher paper. It was absolutely delicious. Cripsy golden toasted bread. The peppers, cracked pepper spice, and all the meats just giving that tangy Italian taste. I think what really sealed the deal was the provolone cheese. It was melted and plentiful and tastefully mellowed out each bite. Definitely one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. The meatball sandwich though in my opinion, had the reverse theme as the panini. When we opened it up out of the foil the cheese was just pouring and dripping everywhere gloriously. It sent signals off in my brain saying, "you look forward to eating that so you should eat the other one first". So after the panini, when I got to the meatball sandwich, I felt there was just something missing. The bread, meatballs, and cheese were great. But there was just something flat about the sauce. Imagine eating spaghetti and meatballs without great sauce. It's still good and filling but it's just not exciting. Maybe it's because I went from the spicy tang of the panini to the wholesome fillingness of the meatballs. In summary, I think they have quality ingredients and real authentic Italian NYC taste they claim. $12 for a sandwich like my dinky but delicious panini was a bit underwhelming when they sell massive round muffulettas elsewhere for a bit less, but I wouldn't change a thing about how it tasted. I recommend everyone should try this place. Maybe if I ordered on Friday and got free cannoli it would have felt more worth it. P.S. Is it spelled muffAletta or muffUletta? read more

Big hype was backed up in a big way. I heart sandwiches and, luckily for me, this place has maybe the best in town. The Hot Combo Panini (Cibo's version of the muffaletta) is just an explosion of meats and cheeses. Ham, Mortadella, Capocolla, Salami, Mixed Pepper Salad, Roasted Red Pepper, Melted Provolone Cheese inside Pressed Italian Bread...SO good. Pasta is dope, too, as my wife can attest to. Staff was helpful and kind offering to wait to make my wife's food until she arrived (so it wouldn't get cold). Will absolutely be back - there are like six other sandwiches I must have. read more

Man oh man oh man! Why have I been passing this place up?!?! I'm absolutely in love! I've been to the main Italian spots in NOLA but they have NOTHING on Cibo! Cibo has some of the best if not the best Italian food in New Orleans. We ordered the Sicilian Sandwich, Spaghetti and Meatballs and a Meatball Sub. Everything was delicious. The portions were generous but the prices are a little inflated. However, the food is so good I didn't mind paying for it. The homemade tomato sauce was dynamite. I could have packaged that I took it home! I wish they sold it in a jar. The staff were friendly and extremely patient (I had a hard time deciding what type of Sandwich I wanted lol). At the end of the day I give it 5 starts but had to scale back 1 because of the prices. I will def be back! read more

Man, the website and stars seemed great. I viewed the website for a while and fell in love with the Broadway. So, for my first visit, I finally got to try it. I'm disappointed. I ordered from the website and it gave me a time to go pick it up. I order the Broadway sandwich (which I have been dying to try), a bag of chips, and a bottled water. I walk in at the stated time and the person working there seemed surprised that he had a pick up order. I thought nothing of it at first as I figured maybe there was a technical glitch with the website they used. Anyway, the person goes to make my sandwich and it sounds like microwaves were working hard. And, it tasted like that. I don't know if that is how the sandwich is, but there was zero flavor. Like really bland. I don't think that's how it is supposed to be. Then the person tells me they don't have chips at the moment. Surely, I figured he would offer a replacement. Nope. I had to ask for something or at least a refund for that part or my order. He gives me this tiny cup of pasta salad out of the fridge. I try it, zero flavor. Then, another customer comes in and he says he has a pick up order from the website and the person was surprised again; that person had to wait to his food. So, yeah, it'll be awhile before I decide to trust my money there, especially since there are so many better places to eat in this city. That was my experience and it only takes one. read more

There is nothing bad I can say about Cibo. The only drawback is the wait time sometimes but it's not too bad. I always get a hot plate that comes with a salad. Either the chicken parmigiana, the spaghetti & meatballs, or the Tribeca (chicken parm, one meatball, & spaghetti). I love that the sauce is not too acidic but not too sweet. It's not overpowering at all. The chicken parm comes out piping out with about 3 slices of chicken with melty cheese on top. The service is always good. The staff is friendly. I absolutely love this place. It's right on Carrollton near Oak, a very picturesque part of town. They have great sandwiches that come with a side of tri-colored pasta salad. I recommend the caprese with truffle oil. Lately, I've been getting the cheese and salami plate. The owner is from New York and gets his amazingly spicy salami from Astoria, New York. They have bagels as well that I have yet to try but will. They always have a house Sangiovese on tap for about $7. I like it. Often, I will sit outside and watch the street cars go by while I enjoy my meal. It actually is a great spot to work but it doesn't have WiFi so you have to have a personal hotspot. read more

I had CIBO bookmarked for a while now, and like most times when I think of where I want to eat, I forget about CIBO. But this time...I remembered! Searching for spaghetti and meatballs, which isn't easy to find in this city BTW... I ended up at CIBO. Quick look at the menu...chicken parm and 1 meatball? Perfect. Maybe I shouldn't have expected much from this small restaurant (cafe?) but I was disappointed. Maybe the rave reviews are for their sandwiches which do sound tasty on the menu. My hopes were for better than a "pizza joint" type Italian food but that's the level it was. Not the worst chicken parm or meatball but I have had better even from pizza shops. Definitely not worth the $14. The chicken was small/thin and breading was lost all together under the sauce and cheese. Meatball was kind of tough, not ideal for a meatball. Also grabbed a box of Italian cookies which I normally love! Fig cookies were hard. Pass. While it could be a quick option if you live near by, I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. read more
