tucked away off oak street, paulie's feels like one of those spots you almost want to gatekeep... but it's too good not to talk about we finally went and i'm already ready to go back. my husband got the chicken parmigiana and absolutely tore it up, and i had the brooklyn dodgers reuben which was sooo good -- like, one of those sandwiches you keep thinking about later we also shared cheese fries with gouda (really good but i wish they went a little heavier on the cheese tbh), plus a beer for him and a sauvignon blanc for me that was actually pretty solid our waitress was so sweet with the best personality, and the whole vibe of the place is just cozy and lowkey -- tucked away from all the chaos but still right there in the city definitely one of those places that feels like a little hidden gem. already planning our next visit! read more

If you are in a hurry this is not the place to eat. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and were there for almost 2 hours. The server was very nice and apologized for the wait. She said the chef was a perfectionist which I can appreciate and do not mind waiting. We chose to come here because I saw a video on TikTok and had very high expectations. We ordered the Italian Stallion. This was not my favorite sandwich. I would not order it again. The bread is really good but this sandwich did not knock my socks off. My son ordered rockaway beach sandwich which was better. The chicken was tender and juicy. I would order this sandwich again but ask to hold the arugula because I'm not a fan of it. I order the meatball toast and the Greek salad. I enjoyed the meatball toast and the way it was prepared. I liked having the crostini's on the side of the dish so they did not get soggy. The red sauce and meatballs were really good. I'd probably go for a meatball sandwich next time. The small greek salad comes packed in a tiny bowl. I asked for a bigger bowl to mix it in to make it easier to eat. I'm not sure if it doesn't come with dressing but I did have to ask for dressing after the fact. I opted for the balsamic and oil dressing. It was really good and refreshing. I enjoyed my salad. For dessert we ordered the dream bomba affogato and the limencello raspberry cake with a shot of espresso. They were ok. Pretty disappointed in Paulies. I think I had super high hopes and expectations for this place. We got here around 4 on a random Thursday afternoon. The place had one other table and 2 other guests, which had left by the time we got our food. Paulie was the only one serving us, taking orders and manning the place. It took a while for us to get drinks and food, considering there was only one other table. The Great Bambino was good but the Philly Cheesesteak had barely any meat! The bread was very soft and tasty, but it was just ok. The entire sandwich was 20% protein, 80% bread. The eggplant sticks were piping hot, but they didn't have much flavor. I should've just stuck to getting the mozzarella sticks. I understand it's hard out here in the restaurant industry right now, so I will possibly give it another try, but it just wasn't worth my money. $50+ dollars for that? My BF is from the east coast and loves a classic deli/italian deli so we were really excited to try Paulie's. Overall we're glad we did but probably won't hurry back. The place was more upscale than we expected (which is on us for not diving deeper beyond food offerings). Started off with drinks and onion rings. Drinks were good but the onion rings were in an odd batter. We both got sandwiches which were good but not amazing, which is mostly just annoying because of the price. For mine, since it had chicken and some cheese on it, I just wanted it to be warmer so that the cheese would actually melt. Fries were also a disappointment because they were crinkle cut which just reminds me of public school. Yall! This is my new favorite sandwich shop!! The owners are guys from NY so they bring their NY style sandwiches to the South and boy is it a nice complement. You walk in and see all the mobster posters hanging on the walls. I absolutley LOVE this! And you then notice how deep the restaurant goes. And see a stage in the front, and coffee area in the back, and a deli in the middle, a bar towards the front, and the dinning area all in the center of this confusion. But it is not confusing, because they are doing everything right! I love the options of a divy bar/coffee shop/sandwich shop/live music venue. I came here for lunch, so I will go into that. I ordered the divvy Italian Stallion and I have not stopped thinking about it since I ordered it months ago! This sandwich has it all - Pepperoni, salami, capocollo, and THE BEST prosciutto I have ever had. I told the waitress, what do they do different here?! She said they sauté it in butter and wait for it to become crispy. That buttery crisp made every bite more exciting; it mimics a high-class bacon! You get all that on a Cartozzo braided Italian bread and if you don't want sesame seeds, they give you the option to do without. I love that boards head is all over the menu, more very NY uniqueness brought to NOLA. The parking is a little bit of a pain, since the website link was not working the day, I went and I eventually moved my car down the street since I saw meter maids out and about. Other than that, and I wish they had longer hours, this place is fantastic!! Made a special trip to Paulie's after seeing a post for their Red White and Blue sandwich special. It is sliced prime rib with onion, feta and gravy. The video post ended up being pretty misleading. The sandwich was very tasty, but $19.95 for a 6" sandwich; I was expecting more meat. The video post showed 3 nice slices of the prime rib going down. Mine had one. Which is a shame. The sandwich was definitely not worth the price. The service was very good. My server, Bear, was very pleasant and professional. Not sure if I will go back. read more

Really pretty place and friendly service. The menu is expansive with a large variety of sandwiches on braided seeded or unseeded bread. I tried the Italian Stallion, a combination of Italian deli meats/salami with cheese, sun dried tomatoes and arugula. It wasn't my favorite. The toasted meats were super salty and the sun dried tomatoes were overwhelming. The bread is okay but not the best of sandwich breads offered in Nola. I would definitely go back and try something else, maybe a meatball or beef sandwich. I think they might complement the bread and style of their sandwich better than traditional Italian cold cuts. They use Boars Head products which likely has something to do with the saltiness. There is a coffee bar inside also, but skip it. I got an iced latte and this is not their strong suit. It was milk with a little coffee, they don't have flavors and are still working out the cup/lid situation which proved problematic for carrying. They have a great selection of sodas though and it's a better fit for the food. Interested to see how they do in such a large space. Price wise I think there's probably more value in the large sandwich than the small. A 6" was $14+. It's on the smaller size for similar deli sandwiches around. If the larger at $18 is a 12", the value is a lot better. read more

Took the office staff today for lunch to avoid the usual Monday Beans and Rice . The four of us shared the fresh hand-battered onion rings . The Italian Stallion was a work of art with its specialty meats . My grilled Cooperstown burger was cooked perfectly and tasted great . The other salads and wraps were delicious. Being from CT I am a little fussy about an Italian deli! So far Paulies has exceeded all my expectations and trust me the bar is high ! Do not go there if you are expecting quick fast food and an in and out but definitely go if you want to have some time with friends friendly service and good food ! So far I have been for lunch Boars Head dogs and fries ! On Point ! Breakfast OMG Taylor ham and cheese on a bagel ( no hard rolls in Louisiana ) ON POINT ( my fave so far ) and tonite we had the Meatballs 8/10 (I had a grandmother that made a meatball would make you cry) and the eggplant Parmesan 10/10 best I have had in the city . The sauce is real NY Italian no shade to Louisiana but your sweet sauce is not my jam .. so if you can be patient with a really small establishment to make your belly happy go to Paulies any time of day ! I just paid $50 for two 6-inch sandwiches, one drink, and a slice of cheesecake -- for a to-go order. I even tipped. And honestly? I'm pissed. The sandwich was soaked in balsamic vinegar that after one bite, my face looked like I'd just eaten BBQ ribs. It completely overpowered everything -- you couldn't taste the meat. And that's assuming there was anything else in there, because apparently they weigh the meat they put in each sandwich. So yeah, it looked sad. Let me be clear: the staff was very nice.
