Small Gumbo. Pretty tasty for mall food.
    Edwyn A.

Was looking for a snack to tide me over before an early dinner while staying dry in canal place shopping center and picked this spot over the Chinese fast food spot in the food court. It's a good option as they have a variety of items. Sandwiches and soups and even corn dogs. I opted for something quick so I got a cup of gumbo. The gumbo had lots of chicken and even a couple pieces of sausage. The rice is packed on bottom to make it easier for takeout. A small cup was around $5. Enough for a rainy afternoon.

Don't judge the food by the appearance of the place. The food and service was great. The chicken gumbo, my God, so good, flavorful and full of meat and spices. Also, had a shrimp po-boy with the works. Tasty and full of shrimp. French Bread was toasted just right.

I had just finished visiting the aquarium and was figuring out where to eat. I decided to give the food court a try at Canal Place. The food court is on the third floor. I found Centre Deli and gave it a try. Being Canadian, the curious and cool spelling of the business caught my attention. I liked the look of this place in the middle of the afternoon. You had the option of getting hot or cold items. Since it was hot and humid outside, I went with a sandwich instead of a hot dish. Considering that the shrimp po boy that I had at a different establishment wasn't all that great, I gave it a try here. One word: redemption! The shrimp po boy here was outstanding. Flavourful, yummy shrimp in a bun that was perfect. So good! Sometimes, you find gems at a food court. Centre Deli is one of them. I would come back here in a heartbeat. (34)

I love the Centre Deli. Located on the 3rd floor in Canal Place, Centre Deli is a solid lunch option if you are in the area. My office is very nearby, and this is my go-to spot, especially when I am in a hurry; as the service is always quick. The deli is actually 2 delis in one. The left side is the hot foot bar. They feature a plethora of local comfort foods such as baked chicken, fried chicken, baked fish, baked salmon, fried fish, meatloaf, stuffed bell peppers, lasagna and a variety of vegetables. My favorite is the baked chicken, as the pieces are HUGE. I always get the steamed veggies which consist of a blend of cabbage, broccoli and carrots. However, I've had the fried fish, the salmon and the gumbo and have never been disappointed. I don't know her name, but there is a wonderfully nice hispanic lady who always works the hot line and enthusiastically greets her regular customers. The right side of the deli is for sandwiches. Their hot sausage po-boy is my favorite in the city. Yeah you heard me right when I said that my favorite hot sausage po-boy comes from a deli in a mall's food court. They have NEVER overcooked and dried out the patty style sausage, and it is always dripping with fatty flavorful goodness' and the french bread is always fresh. If you are in the area around lunchtime, give this place a try. It will forever change your viewpoint on food court food. They damn sure made a believer out of me.

***As of 6/4/15, Centre Deli is NOT closed!*** I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if you're like me and work in Canal Place, you don't have a whole lot of options in the building. The ladies that run the deli are quick and efficient and very sweet. The hot foods are very good and I've had some really good meals here under $10 including salmon, fried chicken, and lasagna. I am more likely grab a small hot sausage po-boy and fries for about $7 or if I am having a bad day I splurge with a grilled cheese with bacon. The deli also has breakfast items like bagel and croissant sandwiches, grits and eggs.

The line stretched to the door, but we were out and headed to Jackson Square with our sandwich in less than 20 minutes. (So much better than sitting in the deli!). Inside you'll find a few spaces to eat your sandwich, with some chairs. The dining space is kind of an afterthought. Definitely take it to go and watch some street musicians. The bread holds up to the cold cuts and olive tapenade. We ordered 1.5 sandwiches and didn't even crack open the half sandwich, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and one kid. We also shared a pistachio cheesecake, which was delicious. I'd eat this sandwich any day. So. Good.

I…read morenever ever write reviews because I believe they hurt small businesses and feeds the egos of the ignorant, but that being said this place pissed me the fuck off with their service. I come to central deli whenever I'm with someone not from New Orleans due to the fact their muffuletta is quintessential! I would like to reiterate nothing was wrong with the food , great food purely with the lady taking orders. I got a classic half muffuletta and a "glass" San pellegrino. The lady then told me open glass is prohibited in New Orleans , I retorted with "o really I didn't know that , since when?" Before I could finish The lady then yelled with "SINCE FOREVER, IM SORRY YOUVE BEEN TO BAD BARS WHERE THEY SERVE YOU GLASS ITS BEEN ILLEGAL SINCE THE 50s" which isn't true the city changed the law in 2001. She then proceeded to open my glass bottle even though I told her I didn't want it open, so I the asked if I could get another one since she was in rage mode and didn't understand that she just contradicted herself. As I asked for the second San Pellegrino, she then takes the first one and goes "NO PROBLEM THANKS FOR THE FREE DRINK", and starts to drink the San Pellegrino infront of me as I check out, making thirst quenching noises like "AHH". As I leave she can't help but remind me for her free drink again. I'm pretty sure the management witness this whole situation and I hope they do something about, that lady doesn't realize what hospitality is and needs to be fired. I did nothing to her and I bet I wasn't the first she has blow up on. But in my eyes absolutely unacceptable.

My food was hot n ready within 10 minutes. What I got: crawfish pie (10/5) -- $2.99 for this masterpiece. it is basically crawfish etouffee mixed with some rice stuffed into pie dough. savory, got a nice kick of heat, and love how pronounced the bell pepper flavor is shrimp po boy (10/5) -- everything is just so balanced and went down like nothing because it is so effortlessly addictive. Shrimp are seasoned and fried perfectly. came out to ~$10 and the 6" is HUGE, also easily customizable chicken sausage gumbo (5/5) -- literally feels/tastes like it is made with love. perfectly seasoned, hearty, savory, nice chunks of smoked sausage, good portion of rice It will be on my list to return to whenever I come to New Orleans.

Hidden gem ALERT!!!!!…read more I explored the French Quarter for more authentic eats, and escaped Burbon St...mission complete. New Orleans version of a NY bodega is where I found one of the best and most adorable shrimp po'boys. You'll have to put these directions into your phone, because the location is in the depths of the neighborhood district. It's walkable to and from the popular Canal Street, just much quieter and secluded. You won't be able to park on this particular street, but near by areas would allow for street parking. This is in fact a grocery store with a hot food market setup in the back. I was pleasantly greeted immediately as I entered by a gentleman stocking, and a nice lady behind the register. I immediately darted to the back of the store and saw the setup, simple with a bit of updated technology. You can order and pay at a tablet style screen, and wait for the magic to be made on the other side. It took about 5 minutes and I got a text my order was ready, the same gentleman who was stocking called out my name from the back and handed me a 12 inch shrimp po'boy for 12.00. This sandwich was incredible, loaded with crispy fried shrimp and fresh lettuce. The bun was soft and very fresh, I added extra pickles for an acidic flavor breakup to the fried fish and dough. The flavors were on point, very seasoned and perfectly cooked shrimp. I was very impressed by the price and quality....not to mention customer service. Pro Tip: My van driver mentioned to me before dropping me off at the hotel, a lot of people walk Burbon Street and turn around when it becomes residential. But there is actually a ton of life and experiences to be had off the beaten path, both local and authentic.
