Poeta is a great addition to the east 11th. We had reservations and the table before us took longer to finish than expected, but the staff brought us out some Prosecco to sip on while we waited! We started with the arancini and crisply polenta. Both were delicious, and the table next to us loved the beef tartare. I had the tagliatelle--the pasta was perfectly Al dente and the sauce was creamy. I'd like to go back to try more of their dishes--especially their lunch menu to try the paninis. read more

Desserts for $4 to $8 jist doesnt happen in Austin with this caliber of food quality. This entire meal with 25% tip/tax was $225 for 4 (no drinks). Pasta was pwrfectly al dente and well salted (just like in Italy) . Only nit picks were thst the grilled bread for the whipped beans and the tartare have a nice geill on them but the charred taste was too much and overpowering. Super cute intimate restaurant. I also have very good things to say about the service. We were on a time crunch and our server made sure the food came out in time. They have a waiting area where you can order drinks on your phone and they bring them out to you. I like that idea because the wait can be very long if you don't have a reservation. We went about 6:15PM and the wait was about an hour with no reservation. The food is nicely presented. We got the arancini, blue crab pasta, and beef shoulder. Wow that beef shoulder was flavorful and tender. I did like the pasta and the sauce but a little fishy. This is such a cute date spot or girl's night meal. Wonderful cozy restaurant that feels like an Italian or French Bistro/Brasserie. Service is excellent, attentive, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Food is all prepared with care and attention to detail of which there are many. The mortadella is a must, and I would have licked the plate if I could. The pasta carbonara had the perfect texture and the gnocchi were soft and like little pillows. I think I found my new favorite restaurant! Poeta's lovely ambiance, attentive service, and stellar food was everything I look for. Everything was also reasonably priced and portion sizes were great. I celebrated my birthday dinner here with friends and we were immediately drawn in by the gorgeous decor. It reminds me of a New Orleans style interior meets modern edge, which are the aesthetics I adore. Our server was attentive with ease all while serving during peak Saturday dinner hours without breaking a sweat. And the food - wow, now this was food (especially the pasta) we were all stunned by. We ordered: -Grilled Caesar salad -Tagliatelle -Cappelletti -Housemade Meatballs -Olive oil cake Everything we ordered was incredible and I highly recommend them. Our favorites that stood out to us were the pastas. The Tagliatelle was heavily mushroom centered so if you love mushrooms like I do, then get this entree. The Cappelletti's flavors of crab blended well with the rich and creamy sauce. I'm a huge fan and cannot wait to return to try everything else! I made a reservation at Poeta for 9pm and we didn't get seated until about 915pm. The host did say he would comp our first round of drinks which I appreciated. It was very busy at the time and quite noisy in the restaurant. You could definitely hear everyone's conversations at other tables. I ordered a belon cocktail. It was pretty strong but tasty though. I ordered off the restaurant week menu. Unfortunately, two items were already sold out, the halibut and the cheesecake. I got the arancini, bibb salad, gnocchi and the tiramisu. The arancini was crispy and savory. I enjoyed the sauce that was at the bottom. The bibb salad had a vinaigrette which was acidic and paired well with the prosciutto. I enjoyed my partner's grilled salad a little more. The gnocchi was very good. It was soft and had fried onions on top which gave a nice variety of texture. The sauce was delicious. The lamb was tender. The tiramisu definitely tasted like coffee. I am not a coffee lover so it wasn't my favorite dish. We got free Prosecco because it was our anniversary. I hate giving restaurants bad reviews. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere is very charming. The food is terrible. My husband ordered the wagyu panini, which was so dry he couldn't eat it. I ordered the meatball sandwich and the meatballs were so burnt they weren't edible. The issue I have with this, is that a cook clearly saw that these were burnt and served them anyway. When the server came to collect my unconsumed plate, he could clearly see the burnt meatballs, and did not address it. We really wanted to like this place, but the quality just isn't there. read more

This restaurant is relatively new to the neighborhood but already quite popular. Reservations are required for the bar seats and even getting a last second table at 5:30 on a Sunday was a lucky thing, so plan accordingly. The chicken liver mousse is delicious and filling as a start for two people. It comes with a mustard and a fig jam that make for excellent pairings. It only comes with 3 pieces of bread so order more immediately. I look forward to trying a salad on a healthier day. My friend and I shared the spaghetti carbonara and mezzalune, which is like ravioli stuffed with crab. The mezzalune came with slices of avocado and a cream sauce. The description of the mezzalune includes preserved lemon and mint, but I do not recall any of those flavors. I don't regret ordering it but I wouldn't do it again. The carbonara was tasty but nothing special. If I'm in a carbonara mood, I'll order it again. The cocktail menu looks inventive. We were drinking wine but were given one left-over cocktail for free. It was their invictus, made with tequila and a couple types of vermouth. It was very tasty. I couldn't taste the tequila and it reminded me a lot of Campari. A staff member said that the bartenders could make any variation on a Manhattan. The staff were attentive. The ambiance was pleasant, with a sort of fancy cafe vibe. Wow wow wow is all I need to say. Our group of 6 came here for an early dinner on NYE. The drinks, the food, the service, the atmosphere... all were fantastic! The cocktails were really interesting. My favorites were the Johnny Utah and 11th Street Daiquiri (great fruity summer drink). We split the Caponata and Whipped Beans antipasti as well as the Beef Tartare and Tuna Carpaccio for our appetizers. I forgot to get a photo of the antipasti and tartare, but they were our favorites of the apps. We all particularly liked the whipped beans and would highly recommend you give them a try. The carpaccio was tasty too, just not our favorite of the bunch. For our entrees, we got the following: Tonarelli (uni pasta), Spaghetti (carbonara with pork confit), Gnocchi (with lamb), Grilled Octopus, Risotto (with bone marrow), and Lion's Mane Picatta. Each dish was flavorful and cooked beautifully. We all really enjoyed the octopus. However, I would say my favorites were the picatta and tonarelli. Considering that all 6 dishes were amazing, I don't think you can go wrong with any entree here. Finally for dessert, we split the Chocolate Torte (with amaretto gelato), Chevre (goat cheese) Cheesecake, and the Grapefruit Thyme Sorbet. Our favorite was hands down the cheesecake, but all three were delicious and gave us a sense of very different dessert flavors. Our server was absolutely fantastic. Intero has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Austin, so I was super excited to hear that their team was opening a new spot. I was finally able to make it out for dinner. Had a reservation and so getting seated was no problem. Our waitress was friendly and on first impressions it was a pretty nice spot. We ordered a couple of cocktails to start...I can't remember the names but they were both fine, a little pricey. For food, we had the chicken liver mousse, the arancini, the beet salad, the cappelletti, and the pork chop. The mousse came first and the arancini shortly after. The mousse was really tasty and had a great smooth texture. The saltiness of the mousse was offset very well by the golden raisin mostarda that came with it. I also appreciated that the waitress offered us more bread without us having to ask, as it comes with only 3 half slices of ciabatta for a fairly good portion of mousse. The arancini came next, and this was also a success. They were fried really well, not greasy, and were not too big so that you got a good ratio of crispy outside to rice inside. The pine nut ragu was a really nice accompaniment. At this point is when things started to go downhill. We waited for quite awhile before any more food came out. At first I thought, "maybe they're coursing the two mains and beet salad together so the salad is kind of a side dish." But no, after what felt like a good 20 minutes the beet salad finally came out alone. It was tasty but unremarkable. Somewhere during this time we had also ordered another drink which by the time the salad had been basically finished, had not arrived. The waitress came to check on us and asked if we needed anything and I asked about the cocktail. Turns out she forgot to put in the order so she comped it for us, which was nice. Again another fairly decent wait for the mains. At this point the restaurant seemed pretty busy. It made me think that the kitchen was probably understaffed/in the weeds. We noticed the tables around us were waiting for quite awhile to get food as well. Finally the pork chop and cappelletti arrived. The good news first, the cappelletti was fantastic. It was very generously filled with crab and super flavorful. Definitely the better of the two mains. The pork chop on the other hand tasted like it had been brined too long...it was really salty and the texture of the meat was unpleasantly kind of mushy (probably from being brined too long). It was also overcooked and served almost room temp like it had sat on the pass for awhile before being served. For dessert, we had the coconut sorbet. And again, we had to wait for what felt like a really long time. We actually were about to tell them not to bother and just give us the check, but it finally did come. It was pretty good, not too sweet. It tasted like it could have been a Thai-style dessert. We finally got our check. Our sorbet had been comped too, I assume because they realized how long it took for it to get served? But no one mentioned anything to us. Finally, the place is REALLY loud when it's busy. I could barely hear my own conversation, and could clearly hear the convos of the two tables sitting on either side of me. The acoustics of the place just aren't the best if you're looking for a quite or intimate night out. If you are, I'd suggest somewhere else. Overall I have to say I was disappointed. I LOVE Intero, so I wanted this place to be an extension of that. As it stands I'd go back to try their lunch/brunch menu, but if it comes to dinner, I'd rather just go to Intero. read more

I went to Poeta for the first time with a friend Sunday afternoon and it was delightful. It has a wonderful vibe, very luxurious and laid back. The space, both indoors and on their outdoor covered patio, is beautiful with lots of fun details. And I haven't even talked about the food yet! We got some antipasti, main dishes, and dessert to share and everything was delicious. I especially loved the beet/farro salad - I ate it slowly to savor it, so dang good. We had the wafflegato (waffle affogato), and the espresso butter combined with the maple gelato was insane. It was pretty reasonably priced too - not cheap, but pretty normal for Austin and they have some happy hour ("Social Hour") specials on the weekend 3-5. This is definitely going on my list of places to go when I want to treat myself or celebrate. The staff was very helpful and friendly too. All around, a great experience. read more

We just wandered into Poeta as we often look on Yelp to find 4+ star reviews and then make a decision. It was a really fun atmosphere inside, but we chose to sit on the patio to enjoy the beautiful day. My husband and I shared a crabcake and the eggplant Panini sandwich. Both, entrées were fabulous. The crabcake came with endive and a fabulous sauce, and the eggplant panini had an egg on top and delicious bread. Our server was charming , and we really enjoyed him. We will return. read more

The atmosphere is adorable and the old home reminded me of my childhood home. I appreciate the simplicity of having a tasting menu. The food itself was good and mediocre. The bites that were brought out before any of the courses tasted great. The tartar was wonderful as were the potatoes. The duck ravioli had the most odd taste. That was probably just me, and the duck and the sauce it was sitting in. The swordfish was overcooked and the peach olive oil cake was so bland. It was a great experience. Overall, our experience was very good,We ordered Caesar salad as well as a beet salad the Caesar salad was very good however if you don't enjoy the taste of fish, you should not order it because it has anchovies blended into the dressing. The beet salad was a combination of both beets and golden beets and had a citrusy taste. For my main dish I got the meat balls and my mom got the rigatoni. The meatballs were the best meatballs I've ever had they had a delicious savory flavor and great sauce I highly recommend it. My mom said the rigatoni sauce had a good flavor, but needed more eggplant and pork. The best part of our experience was our waitress she was so nice and flexible about our allergies. She gave a great description of all of our dishes and didn't rush us once. It was an amazing experience I hope you enjoy it as well. read more

I should start this review by saying that I am not a fan of the Italian food in Austin, but Poeta ended up being a decent choice. It was Valentine's Day and we made a reservation for 7:30 PM. There is parking just a block away right next to Hillside Pharmacy. We checked in with the hostess and she proceeded to take us to the indoor patio. Our reservation was not supposed to be at the patio, so I was hesitant especially after seeing how underwhelming the patio was in comparison with the inside of the restaurant. I did not want to be a Karen so did not complain, but it was obvious the ambiance was severely lacking. Our waitress was pleasant and was very descriptive about the menu items. We ordered the chicken liver mousse, the grilled Caesar salad, gnocchi and cappelletti. The mouse and the salad were great. The salad could have used less croutons and the mousse a few more pieces of bread. The gnocchi was overcooked, but the flavor was spot on. The 11th St Daiquiri looked and tasted refreshing and delicious. For dessert we had the olive oil cake. I especially enjoy the different textures in the cake. It was a tad too rich for me, but I would have it again without thinking twice. Overall, a good experience, but I will wait until there are open longer to try them again. read more

I've been putting off writing this review for so long because it's been difficult to continue thinking about the experience we had at the end of July. First, I would start off by saying if you are expecting food, service, or any aspect close to Intero - this does not meet the mark. It takes me a long time to decide where to eat for my birthday as it only comes once a year. When I saw the people behind Intero opened a new restaurant, I knew this had to be the place to try this year. My birthday was on a Saturday and we expected to have trouble with parking, but parking was actually very easy to find as long as you follow the map and instructions on their website. When we got inside to the restaurant, the host was friendly and they even placed a little Happy Birthday sign at the table. The second we sat down we knew it was not the best choice because of the absurd noise level. At the time I made the reservation no one had said anything about it on other reviews, but if you want to be able to have an intimate dinner and be able to hear your partner, this is not the place. We were practically yelling at each other to be heard. When our waitress came over, my husband asked how many items people typically order as it was our first time here, and we weren't sure how large the portions were. The waitress thought he asked how much people spend. We were mortified as price was no issue to us; we just didn't want to order too little or too much. He clarified and asked about portion size and when she answered she still proceeded to tell us a dollar amount. It was so embarrassing because there was no need to tell us about a price when we clarified that we didn't ask that. It pretty much went downhill from there. We ordered mozzarella and mortadella to start but only received mozzarella. At first we thought the mortadella would come next, but we were still finishing the mozzarella when the fried artichokes arrived so at that point we didn't want to bring up the mortadella because we didn't want to switch back to antipasti after eating an appetizer. We also noticed all the other people that ordered antipasti received bread. We did not receive any. We are italian and have had fresh mozzarella so many times, and this was not good. It was thick, dry, and covered in mushrooms in some type of vinegar. The fried artichokes tasted like fry oil which was a shame because the texture was good. The gnocchi with braised lamb was fine, but the marjoram left bitter unpleasant notes in each bite. When it came time for our final course, the branzino, we received a pork chop. We told our server we didn't order that and she looked so confused and suggested we have that instead. We just wanted what we ordered. We eventually got the branzino and our server apologized but at that point we were ready to leave. I guess maybe we should've just ate the pork chop because the branzino filet was one of the worst dishes I've ever eaten in my life. The saffron brodo was saturating everything on the plate and tasted somehow bitter, acidic, and very heavy at the same time. It took everything in our power to eat it because we don't like wasting food. Our server then asked us about dessert and said it was on them because it was my birthday. At that point, we just really wanted to leave but she insisted, so we got tiramisu to go. The tiramisu was fine, nothing to rave about. Someone else had brought us out chocolates which were very good and gave a hint that Intero was in there somewhere, but unfortunately not during our entire dining experience. I will be back to Intero some day, but will definitely not return to Poeta. read more

No, no, no!- we travel/eat out a lot (and both were in the restaurant biz for years). It started out poorly when we were seated at a table between the hostess station and a door that slammed repeatedly as servers went in/ out of it -we had a reservation & several other better tables. Our server -James M- came to our table, never greeted us just asked us if we were ready to order. I was still looking at the menu and said we'd like to start w/app but are still trying to decide on entrees.... We were told that that's not the way they did things there. Everything had to be ordered at once. So we ordered drinks and After sometime they arrived and we ordered, but asked that the app, salad be served separately( past experiences). We felt a bit of attitude from James- after an hour and a half w/ no entrees and dirty dishes continually sitting in front of us- we kind of got the feeling maybe we were being taught a lesson..... There was no apology or can we get you a glass of wine on the house for the delay.... The food was mediocre. The steak tartare was DYI as if we were in fine dining restaurant but instead of the server preparing it table side we mixed it ourselves. The grilled caeser salad was overdressed. My carbonara tasted more like stroganoff and my husbands pork dish was gloppy& fatty. When we received the check - we saw that they charged for 3 iced teas-. It's common practice everywhere to have refillable ice tea/ coffee. If not mention it. When we pointed this out to James, he became Argumentative and said "that's just how we do it." Overall I'd say it was one of the top five worst dining experiences in our last 40 years. Our server was surly and condescending. We could not wait to get out of that restaurant. read more

Poeta is still in grand opening mode but you can sense the experience the staff brings from Intero, the first restaurant from Ian and Krystal, chefs and owners. The dishes are well executed and delicious. The bartenders are knowledgeable and will be happy to recommend a cocktail or make you your favorite one. I recommend this place to eat alone or in smaller groups. Place might be a bit too cozy for groups of 7+ people. read more
