I was disappointed with my experience at Plums. They did have a sign stating that they were understaffed but they didn't appear to be understaffed. I do not think they were utilizing the employees correctly and giving each a section rather than having them working all over the restaurant. The restaurant had indoor and outdoor seating. I chose indoor but would have had a different waitress had I chosen outdoor. Mine was forgetful and disorganized not just with me but the other tables too. She'd forget to bring the drink orders. I have a feeling she forgot to put my order in as two other tables that arrived much later got their food before me. She also kept disappearing for long stretches of time. I never got a refill after asking for one 30 minutes before I got the check as I could tell she was not attentive enough to know to bring around refills like the other staff were doing for their tables. I didn't think she was ever going to come and take care of the check so luckily I had cash on me. I ordered the shrimp salad BLT sandwich and substituted fries for the chips. The fries were great as was the BLT part but the shrimp salad wasn't as good as I had hoped. Plums wouldn't get a return visit from me. read more

Went here yesterday at 2:55 with my daughter and daughter in law. Was turned away because was told there was a 25 minute wait and they close at 4 and they wouldn't have time to serve us. Have never been before but was told by a friend who lives in Beaufort to go so tried. I think the girl just didn't want to wait on us and maybe wanted to go home at 4. Either way not a way to run a business, not like we were a big crowd and it might not have been a long wait who knows. Still not sure if I will come back or not, also since first time was not aware that you closed at 4. There also were a lot of tables open and servers standing around at the time we were there so didn't look that busy to us also no one behind us or in front waiting to get in. We stopped here last year on our way back from Savannah and had the BEST experience. The setting, the food and the service were great. We live in Southern California and visit Charleston frequently to visit family. We like to get out and visit seaside communities for dining. On Thursday 4/17/25, we were traveling back from Amelia Island and made it a point to return to Plums. They close at 4pm, so we made sure we arrived at 2:30pm. This is 90 minutes before closing! From that point, we felt like we were given the bum's rush! They were relucatant to seat us on the patio. It was very obvious that they wanted to close it by the way they treated others. Several were turned away and others told they had to order immediately. We ordered an appetizer, two cocktails, a bottle of wine and two entrees. When spending $118.12 on lunch (very reasonable,) you should be able to relax and enjoy the meal and the view. Our server was in a rush to close the bill (we're still eating) and started sweeping the floor directly adjacent to our table. The manager(?) started closing all the umbrellas and stacking them. Mind you, it's not even 4pm yet. Such a shame! We drove quite a bit out of our way on the trip to return to a restaurant that we so thoroughly enjoyed on our last visit. I sure hope Senior Management cleans this situation up because otherwise the food is super and the view is great! read more

Plums location is what keeps this place busy. The nice outdoor seating area faced the grassy area and waterfront. There wasn't any real decor to speak of, but the location itself was the artwork I suppose. We had to wait for our table but was told they would text us - and they did. There were 2 tables available once they were cleaned. The hostess cleaned and brought us to the table next to the busser's area next to the stair. Dishes and cleaning supplies were directly next to the table. We asked to wait until the other table was ready that she was going to clean it next. She seemed irritated and threw her towel down on the table in a huff. But luckily we were able to sit in the corner and not next to cleaning rags. Our server was fantastic. She was so pleasant and friendly. She knew the menu well and remained attentive during our entire visit. The food took a long time to come out so between waiting for our table and then waiting for the food, our lunch was an all afternoon affair. We all loved what we ordered. Everything was fresh and tasty. I can't say there was anything that blew us away but we certainly enjoyed our salads and sandwiches. I feel like Plums is a great spot to try when you first visit Beaufort. But I think I will try other places on my next stop into town. read more

We went to the "Sunday Supper Club" dinner last night (5:30pm seating; there is also a 7:30pm seating) and were so very glad we did! The dinner is served family style, and evidently the menu will change week to week (so watch their social media!). It's a fixed price, and reservations are made via OpenTable. We were at a table with another couple and enjoyed making some new friends while we enjoyed a fantastic meal! The food was absolutely delicious (and plentiful!!). Biscuits, fried chicken, Brussel sprouts, collards, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, cucumber salad ... and yummy banana pudding. Terrible service! After being told there was a 45min. - 1 hour wait because there was one cook working, we decided to put our name on the waitlist and browse a few nearby shops. After receiving a missed call 20 minutes later, I called back immediately and was told that our waitlist spot had been canceled. The employee was very rude and argumentative on the phone when I explained to her that we were told it would be at least 45 minutes and I had returned her call after just one minute. She eventually agreed to let us keep our spot and requested that we get to the restaurant immediately because our table was still available afterall. Once we were sat at the table, we waited for 25 minutes without being approached by a server, even though several were standing around talking and in their cell phones, I went back to the hostess and she told me she would get us a server. She walked into the kitchen and then back to the host stand. We waited an additional 10 minutes as I watched a server walk by our table 5 times without acknowledging us. She then went to a table beside us (that had just been seated and took their drink order). At this point, we had been waiting over 30 minutes, so we decided to leave. The hostess and the server did not say anything, but started cleaning the table before we even had a chance to walk away. The appearance of this country lace is simple and the atmosphere is chill so take my advice and order the same way. There was a truck with trailer parked outside which looked to be for just a short period of time but a lady made a huge fuss about them "taking her parking spots for her costumers" when there was only one person other than me in the store. Best things first: The location is super convenient and the patio has amazing views of the water. The service was cordial and professional and overall we had a good time. The not so great : The food was more on the disappointing side. I ordered a flounder po-boy and a side of french fries. The sandwich was just a-ok. The bread was not toasted and was disappointing. The service was very good, they were quite busy, but, the staff had checked in multiple times and made sure that any needs were provided for. The food was good and matched our expectations based on price. The Shrimp and Grits were absolutely fantastic, the picture may look messy, but, this was by far the best tasting version of the dish that I have had. I wanted the shrimp and grits but they ran out of it on a beautiful Friday night and it was only 6:30pm. Menu is very limited, we tried the specials for the night of Fried Conch fritters which were tough to eat, the lamb tacos was just ok, And caterpillars kept coming on to me or the table! We should have opened the umbrella to deflect them! The lady on our neighboring table also was surprised at the 3 Caterpillar (uninvited) guests. We looked at a few restaurants downtown and settled in on this one originally looking for eggs and breakfast but wound up getting burgers gumbo soup and potato salad. Our experience at Plums went downhill fairly quickly when the sweet tea we ordered, which our passive - aggressive waitress brought to the table, contained a big bug happily floating at the top. Not a huge deal on it's own, but unfortunately the waitress immediately copped an attitude when we asked for a new one, acting like she was doing us a favor by replacing our tea. Her attitude only worsened as our stay wore on and it put a damper on our lunch visit. Overall the food was mediocre with several in our party satisfied with it and several thoroughly unhappy....the grilled cheese was hard as a brick and the chicken salad did not seem fresh at all, just to describe a couple of our food choices. Wish we chose somewhere else to dine where we could have had a more pleasant experience. If not for the horrible service this review would have been 3 stars. read more
