Soli 4-stars for seafood and low-country items. Someone else mentioned an issue we had-- we were told the wait was 45 minutes or more, and others in our group were calling other places when suddenly we got buzzed in, in only about 20 minutes. It was late on a Sunday, they were out of some items, but we loved what we got. I think their she-crap soup was the best we had on our trip. Everyone was pleased with their dishes. It was a mixed bag. I'll start with the good. Pros: They told us they had an hour weight for a table and we were seated in about 15 minutes. Servers were great. Food came out relatively quick. Good portions. My son loved his flounder and my wife loved her crab cakes. They had a strong salty taste that none of us could place and were served with cinnamon butter. Nothing like what we've had during other trips to SC. My Low Country boil was nothing special. I had high expectations this close to the water, but I've had better seafood boils in central Illinois. Daughter wasn't crazy about her pasta. Way too heavy on the cheese sauce. Drinks were weak. Extra charge for use of a credit card. It wasn't a bad meal, it just wasn't that great. If your looking for great seafood you might want to try a smaller place. read more

We decided to eat here because our previous pit stop was disappointing. Thank goodness it was, because this place was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We arrived right before the evening rush and were seated on the covered patio area. It was a little hot, but the fans and cross breeze helped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress was great, and helped us decide on great dishes. My husband ordered the fried fish and shrimp and grits special. It was so good! I ordered the fried fish platter with a side of Coleslaw, but the fries didn't come out when brought to the table, but we ordered a side fries. Very delicious! The star of the evening was the complimentary corn break, they used a whipped butter with (I think) chives. Great sweet/salty taste. We went there for the hush puppies we love and were denied. They apparently had a larger turnout than expected after the 4th of July holiday and ran out by the time we were seated (7:30 PM). This was really disappointing since we drove one hour to get there so that one of our party could taste the hush puppies. Fortunately, they still had the cornbread which we also enjoy because it is light and not dense like most cornbread. It's more like a cake than traditional cornbread. The butter that accompanies the cornbread is also quite tasty. Our meals consisted of the Shrimp & Grits, Seafood Pasta, Pan Seared Mahi-Mahi and Crispy Scored Flounder. The Shrimp & Grits were good as always. It comes in a large bowl with lots of grits. The Flounder and Mahi-Mahi were both good as well. The Seafood Pasta was swimming in so much cheese sauce that I could not see the pasta when the plate was first brought to me. It had lots of shrimps and scallops in it. I would have preferred more pasta and less cheese sauce. Our wait would have been 1 1/2 hours had we stuck with our original choice of sitting inside where it is air conditioned. However, since there was a nice breeze, we switched to sitting in the screened in porch area. Our server was very friendly. read more

Stopped by Dockside tonight and had a really enjoyable experience. I started with the coconut shrimp appetizer, and it was so good that I ended up ordering another round and just calling that dinner. The food exceeded my expectations, and combined with the waterfront setting, made for a great evening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view is absolutely beautiful. In my opinion, Dockside has one of the better waterfront views in Beaufort.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While it isn't positioned for a perfect sunset, getting there as the sun starts going down is well worth it. After dinner, taking a walk around the marina is a great way to end the night. Service was solid overall. Our server was patient, responsive, and did a great job taking care of us throughout the meal. The only minor issue we had was that when our food was delivered, the cocktail sauce for the shrimp was missing, and the team member who brought it out seemed a little annoyed when we asked about it. To be fair, our server quickly fixed the issue, and it wasn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm giving Dockside 4 out of 5 stars. Not because it wasn't very good--it was. I just reserve 5-star reviews for places that leave me struggling to find anything that could be improved. My biggest critique is really more of a personal preference than a complaint. Dockside is very seafood-focused, which makes sense given what it is. However, the non-seafood options felt somewhat limited. If you're bringing someone who doesn't enjoy seafood, there aren't a ton of choices outside of a few entrees. I'd love to see something simple added to the menu--a burger, chicken tenders, or another casual option--to make it easier to bring friends and family members who aren't seafood fans. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Dockside to both locals and visitors. Great food, beautiful views, a relaxed atmosphere, and a place I'll definitely visit again. read more

Dockside was wonderful! The restaurant is sat in a convient location in Beaufort (right off a main road). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Comfortable atmosphere, attentive service, went here with 20+ other people for dinner. Beautiful water view from our tables. Menu looked great and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. My dining mate and I ordered, she crab soup, coconut shrimp appetizer, and scallop and shrimp picatta over pasta,and bourbon glazed salmon. Cornbread and butter on the table. Others ordered shrimp and grits, fish and chips, crab cakes etc. Everything came out hot, plated nicely, good portions and price on par. Note 20% tip included. Credit card users included a 3% fee. We were visiting the South and staying in Beaufort. Got into town around 9 pm and headed for dinner that first night. We received a warm welcome. This is a casual place with fresh seafood. We started out with an order of hush puppies which were perfectly cooked and generously sized. My companion ordered the Cajun catfish which was generously spiced and cooked perfectly. I ordered the Captains Dinner which surprisingly had a very thin layer of coating allowing the flavor of the seafood to shine through. The food was really good and perfectly prepared. Visiting from Lakeway, Tx. (west of Austin). Long day exploring beautiful Beaufort and beyond! A local suggested Dockside. Bottle of wine at the bar (good)! Bartenders (great)! Manager running through frequently (good). Husband ordered Mahi-Mahi with hesitation anticipating tough fish. Bartender assured that would not be the case. Our loss. Fish was awful! Having said that, my catfish was terrific. Grilled veggies were great. We do not typically voice a negative opinion with folks who (very obviously) work so hard. Went to Dockside in Beaufort. Complimentary corn bread: moist, fluffy, and flavorful 5/5 Appetizer: Buffalo shrimp and vadallia onion coleslaw. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the sauce had the right amount of kick. The coleslaw was delicious. 5/5 Drinks: Dale's pale ale, Diet Coke, Strawberry Lemonade and Mojito. The later two drinks were plenty strong. 4/5 Dinner: Fried flounder with fries and fried flounder/fried scallops with fries. Stopped by on a Thursday night for dinner. Waited about 20 minutes for a table since we were a larger party but it wasn't bad at all. We started with raw oysters, onion loaf, and hush puppies. All delicious! We also shared a cup of the she crab soup. For entrees, I was already so full from appetizers I ordered a side of steamed shrimp and a side salad with the Parmesan Peppercorn dressing. Oh my, what happened to Dockside? The crowds keep coming and the wait times are still quite long, but the meals have gone down hill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Worst of all, a dog was seated at a table directly in front of me. It sat in a chair right next to the owner, and was being hand fed. I swear the dog got more bites. The topper was when he held up the tray from corn bread for the dog to lick it clean![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The most disappointing thing was that they had dropped the very popular crab stuffed flounder. The waitress said she gets lots of questions about it -- it was our biggest reason for dining there. I am always puzzled when a restaurant drops a popular entree. If your wait staff is getting asked for it, maybe you should bring it back! The night we were there, they had run out of Mahi Mahi. The waitress said lots of people were ordering it since the stuffed flounder was gone! I decided to try the sword fish. When the plate arrived I thought to myself wow this piece of fish is huge, I made a good choice! But then I picked up my fork... The fish was woody when it should have been firm. It was swimming in some type of oil, even though I had ordered grilled. I noted that the stripes from being grilled looked pretty dark. It turned out the marks had been badly burned. Every stripe was crunchy and tasted burned. Since the grill marks were about half an inch apart, the entire fish tasted charred. I could tell the waitress looked at my plate and noticed I had eaten maybe a quarter of the fish. No matter. in any case she didn't ask me about my meal. The only redeeming part was that the cornbread was outstanding -- as usual. Dockside has the best cornbread in the area. Please bring back the crab stuffed flounder! read more

My husband and I enjoyed an early dinner after walking around Beaufort for the day. There was a line 30 min before it opened. There were seats on the porch so time went quickly. We had the She Crab Soup as an appetizer. It was good, lots of crab. I got fried shrimp. 16 shrimp!!! Lightly breaded and fried perfectly. My husband got seafood pasta. He said it was tasty but not his favorite. Sauce was a little heavy without a lot of taste. It had plenty of seafood. Our server was very personable and offered good service. This was going to be a five star review but both my grandma and boyfriend got to taste this food twice...once going in and once coming out! I do have to say though that we had some of the best cornbread we've ever tasted and the hush puppies and cod were amazing. The crab cake was also so so yummy. Potentially unpopular opinion...the crab soup wasn't great it didn't taste like anything. The French fries also tasted bombbb but unfortunately that is the only thing I didn't eat that they did so our best guess is old grease on why this meal came back up. We'll still probably give them a second shot since everything else was so good. read more

The chocolate milk that they made was so good five out of five from -oleander the crabs they were so so so good like I got them every single time when I got there. Dined here after a long day of driving to enjoy the area around Beaufort. Crowded, but we got seats at a high top on the screened in porch and the heaters kept it comfortable. This place was OMG good!!! Quaid was our server and a very pleasant and friendly young man he was. Took our order and promised to space the appetizers and dinner appropriately and gosh, almighty HE DID. Most restaurants and staff just can't seem to manage that. My crab cake was to die for and the Crispy Scored Flounder was outta this world good. My hubby savored the Oyster's Rock. and devoured as many of the lightly friend Scallops as he could. Prices were oh, so reasonable. Portions were HUGE and quality of food was excellent. Yeah, we will be back. They're going to be a hard act to follow. read more
