Fried chicken breast and Mac and cheese
    Donna U.

We for a drive and put this place in the GPS because fried chicken is my weakness. It's a little place right off the road and you'd miss it if you weren't looking for it. They have indoor and outdoor seating but with the pandemic, indoor seating was limited to a booth and the two bar stools we snagged. Outside there are picnic benches. They have an a la carte menu with mostly friend chicken pieces but I hear they are known for their chicken sandwiches. I had the fried whole wings and pasta salad. The wings had great flavor but needed more crunch on the outside. I had some soggy skin which was a little off putting. The pasta salad was amazing. My wife had the fried chicken breast and mac and cheese which she enjoyed. The beer was good, cant go wrong there. Not quite sure what it was exactly but my wife did have a terrible stomach issue on our way home. Not going to say it was the chicken but not sure what else it could have been.

We heard great things and the restaurant didn't disappoint. We loved stopping in here for lunch! We ordered 3 types of wings: the tiger, the white tiger, and Buffalo. Each of them were yummy! The fries were also good! We loved sitting outside and having a water view across the road. Drink situation: there was a small selection of beers as well as soda. We had water because it was a warm day. The one caveat is there isn't a lot of seating in either the inside or outside. We were lucky and got a table :) We can't wait to go back!

Q's Chicken Shack on Sea Island Parkway in Beaufort is a great place for all things fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, and sides. I really like the location that has a nice relaxed feeling of a roadside diner inside and a good area to eat outside with fresh air. Everything here is delicious and well made with the fried chicken that is cooked to order and comes out fresh and warm. I also really like their french fries and onion rings and the different sauces that come with everything. The staff here is very friendly and does a good job at making you feel welcome and works hard to make sure that you have everything you need. Overall they do a really good job here and are well worth a visit if you are in the area

Chicken tenders with White Tiger sauce and Mac & Cheese

Employee at counter told us someone walked out and they didn't have quite a few menu items. No shrimp or rice bowls. That left us with getting an oyster po boy special, a grilled chicken sandwich, and 2 of the tender plates. The oyster po boy was filled with shells, half of it rendered inedible. The loaded potato salad I chose as a side was bland and dry topped with cold shredded cheese and bacon bits. The sandwich with grilled chicken was dry and the salad was plain but fine. Chicken tenders are moist, but highly under seasoned. White tiger sauce and honey mustard are tasty. Mac and cheese is dry as a bone but looked tasty. Overall, staff was salty but the food was not. I don't think we will eat here again, but it was worth a try.

Good fried chicken. Made to order, so not the fastest food. Order at the counter, a few tables inside and outside. Fried chicken tenders and pieces, chicken and pork chop sandwiches. Plenty of sides. Good food.

Chicken fingers and honey mustard sauce. Delicious!

Best fried chicken I've had in a long time!! Delicious. Not greasy. Crunchy on the outside, juicy inside. Loved it!!

Quaint place with amazing food. These are the only things I tried so I can't speak to the rest of the menu but I love this! Crispy chicken, perfect heat to the buffalo. Quick and yummy!

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.
