We stopped by on a Wednesday evening around 6:30 PM for dinner. We originally wanted to dine in, but the staff told us that the dining room was already closed and that we could order takeout instead. One thing that could be improved is the posted dining room hours. The restaurant posted that they close at 7:30 PM, so we were surprised that we weren't able to dine in when we arrived at 6:30 PM. It would be helpful if they could clearly indicate the hours for the dining room separately from the overall closing time so customers know what to expect. We decided to give it a try and ordered the fried chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, potato logs, New Orleans rice, and the original cornbread. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, but the fried chicken and cornbread really stood out. The cornbread was so buttery and delicious! We both love fried chicken and have tried so many different versions, but the fried chicken here is honestly the best we've ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, not just the skin, but the chicken itself was flavorful all the way through. If you love fried chicken, this place is definitely a must try! We could not get into 2 of the more well known tourist restaurants located in historic Savannah but this place hit the mark just the same . We found it on recommendation and it was a gem. Located in a strip mall area we seemed to hit the timing just right for a Sunday crowd. Every plate that passed by looked better than the rest and we had a hard time narrowing down choices . We went w a traditional 2 piece portion and chose the pecan and blueberry corn bread w the pecan spread and the days special of peach butter . Well, when to you see good reviews and there is a line of people out the door waiting for the place to open.... And it was the chicken was cooked to order, came out super hot, and was both crispy and juicy. The greens were super flavorful and needed no added spices. I'm not a big cornbread guy but took a couple bites anyway. The jalapeños weren't over powering and offset the sweetness a little. My server was amazing!!! Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. I was visiting from out of town and discovered this spot on TikTok, so I decided to give it a try. There was a slight wait to be seated, but once we were at our table, our server greeted us promptly and took our order without issue. The food did take about 30 minutes to come out, which was a bit longer than expected. Overall, I'd rate the food a 3.9 out of 5;it was good, but not quite exceptional. Visiting Savannah for the 3rd time but we will definitely be back here! Jaylan was our server and he was excellent. He has great customer service and made sure we had everything we needed. It will take some time to get your food if you get the fried chicken but it is worth it! It's cooked fresh to order. Hubby ordered the ox tail special with mash potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese. Daughter ordered four piece fried chicken with sweet potatoes, and I ordered the three piece fried chicken with greens. Some of our sides were an upcharge but it was worth it. I went with my Mother to experience this restaurant and was delightly surprised. While the meal was exquisite the service was very slow. But once we were seated the service still was not as great as it could have been. Shatter-crisp, thin breading hiding the juiciest meat beneath, if you poke it before you bite in, you will likely send a river of juices flowing. To put it plainly- I am on ozempic now and it obviously affects my appetite.... The ozempic is no match for this chicken that was so flawless that I managed to power through and still put down four pieces. Did I suffer later? Yes, I sure did. Did I regret it? Regardless, the chicken was crisp, juicy, and simply phenomenal! The rest was fairly mid and skippable. Staff were nice, but much of the cornbread menu was unavailable when we went, as they had only 2 options to choose. Let's love some of the sides but all in all, it feels pricey for level of service and the quality of the mains (the ribs tasted like they were overcooked and had been sitting out for a hot minute).
