Happy Earth Month... As I try to condense and pare down and accept the unwanted items that are still in good condition and see if I'm able to find a better home that someone will love and not putting in the landfill. Plato's Closet is a great way to do so as they will purchase your items though mind you they are pretty full so are now pretty selective with your items. Many are targeted for teens and younger crowds with that are searching for specific brands and styles. The process is easy you check in with your iD and information and wait until you see your name on the chalkboard to which they will go over with the items they have chosen and you do still have the option to sell your items to them on this visit they seem to have wanted my eco bags which I had a bunch that they now are still in excellent condition along with some shoes. If you do find items there as well the money you receive from them items you just sold will go into a discounted price which makes it a win win in these situation and not filling the landfill with items that could have been avoided. Thank you!

Did anyone think Plato's Closet would be filled with white tunics and gold leaf crowns? I was probably hoping that. But nope, no white tunics, sorry. Plato's Closet is a secondhand, buy and resell store. It mainly accepts brand name clothing that is fairly new and "in style" with the younger generation. In other words, what sells the quickest. Did Socrates approve? Plato's Closet is located at the corner of Beretania and Piikoi St. in a small lot with Territorial Savings Bank with a decent amount of parking. Entrance is from Beretania. I brought my wife here as she had clothes to sell. The clerk said the buyback amount is 60-70% off retail and a third of that value is what you get back. Obviously, you're not selling your clothes here to make money with that amount. It's an alternative to donating your clothes down the street at Goodwill. Getting cash now vs. tax break later. I haven't been here in a very long time. I was going to say 10 years, but apparently, that's how long Plato's Closet has been open. The inside looks the same as I remembered with a majority of women's clothing, but still a decent amount of Men's. The store is very organized and easy to browse. Prices range from $7-12 for shirts, and $18-22 for Levi's jeans, which is about half off from Macy's when it's on sale. Only interesting thing was a 2005 Pro Bowl XXL Reyn Spooner shirt, but I wouldn't wear it. That one can go to the vintage store. Overall, Plato's Closet is a nice option to get rid of unwanted clothes if you're looking for physical cash in hand rather than donating them down the street for intangible tax deductions, and a nice option to purchase "gently used," brand name clothing. The staff here were very nice, helpful, and informative. I'm ready to declutter some of my things at home, and Plato's Closet is a good place...if I actually find anything that's with the current trend.

Every time I get a chance to visit Waikiki, I always stop at Mahina and this location in particular…read morenot only for its wonderful selection of clothing and accessories, especially its jewelry, but also the lovely service from the individuals who work there. They are full of the aloha spirit, super friendly, and helpful. Make you feel right at home. I really like that they have a variety of items that are wearable not only if you're visiting Hawaii on vacation but also things that you can take back home especially if you live in California or have a coastal beach style. Their jewelry selection is so cute lots of little island themed type jewelry that is sophisticated and dainty and not overly priced at all - very affordable. They also get new inventory quite often so it's great to be able to check them out if you're staying for a longer period of time to see if they have new items or if you're like me you may just be tempted to go back to make another purchase. Mahalo for the aloha Mahina!

ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS!…read more It's unfortunate because our experience started off so well. Around 9:30 a.m., I found a really cute dress that I decided to wear for dinner. The girl who checked us out was incredibly kind and helpful, so I want to be very clear that this review is not about her. She was wonderful. During checkout, she told us we had 14 days to return the dress if we decided we didn't like it, so we felt completely comfortable making the purchase if we didn't end up changing our mind. At around 3:30 p.m.--only about six hours later--I tried the dress on with the strapless bra I planned to wear and realized it was cut much lower on the side than I had thought. Unfortunately, it showed way more side than I was comfortable with, so I made the five-minute walk back to the store. I brought the dress back with the tags still attached, the original shopping bag, and my receipt. I was then told that returns were not allowed, but they could offer store credit instead. We explained that we had specifically been told we could return it within 14 days. The employee responded by circling the return policy printed on the receipt. The problem is that you don't receive the receipt until after you've already paid. We relied on the information we were given at checkout. We asked if a manager could be contacted. The employee first texted the manager, and for a moment it sounded like an exception might be made. Ultimately, the answer was still no. We then asked if she could call the manager directly. Unfortunately, the manager was incredibly rude and dismissive over the phone. We explained that we felt we had been misled and that we would be disputing the charge and leaving a review. Her response was simply, "Okay." There was no concern, no apology, and no attempt to make things right. And the manager was so aggressive. It's disappointing because this entire situation could have been avoided if we had been given accurate information at checkout. Instead, what started as a great shopping experience ended with some of the worst customer service I've experienced.

My daughter was helping me zip it up and I felt like I was in the movie White Chicks! Lol. Bought a couple of earrings, a cute bracelet, two tops and a jeans. I was assisted to try on a few dresses. The dresses feel soft and are flattering. What I love the most is the dress I chose has pockets. I was able to find a matching shirt for my husband and a dress my for 5 year old. The price seems a lot, but its not. It's made in Hawaii. Made in house. So the QUALITY and WORKMANSHIP is what you are getting from it. Many people ask where I get my clothes. A lot of my favorite pieces are from this place. The quality is worth the money spent. There is only a few places you can get an outfit that will look good, last long and makes you feel good in it. This place is will always be my go to. A lot of the clothing pieces travel well and are versatile. You can look beach ready and dress it up with the right accessories and shoes. Last purchase I made was for a dress item that was too long. They provided alterations so I got the dress and a week later picked it up. It was perfect! Overall, ladies you can't go wrong here. The have flattering tops, pants and dresses. They have some pieces for the family. They even have jewelry to accessorize. They even do alterations.
