I've put off leaving a bad review for this place because I really wanted to like it, but I can abide this horrible excuse for NY pizza no more. Every pie I get from this place is a soggy flaccid mess, but today's pie was beyond the pale. Mushroom sausage peppers.. nothing crazy. They used canned mushrooms and peppers y'all. CANNED... You couldn't pick up a slice without it falling apart. This pizza was so wet it was like it was visiting home from Submarine School in Connecticut. This pizza was like one step away from being soup. I had a homie visiting here from the middle of Nowhere in New Mexico. This fool lives (no lie) 40 miles from the nearest gas station and he says he gets better pizza in that gas station than this stuff. I was embarrassed for New York pizza y'all. I really was. I really want to support local business but I can't with this place. I'm done. I'm gonna leave 2 stars because the people who work here are nice people, but they can't make a decent pizza to save their lives. Time to hang it up. read more

Got 2 pies and garlic knots here because our usual place was too busy. I have to say, I have never seen a cheese pie like this before, it seemed like it was a thick circular mozzarella slice that was just placed on top since it didn't really stick to the dough. It is hard to explain. The pies weren't that bad actually, the sauce had a little peppery taste to it which I liked and when reheated the cheese was ok. The garlic knots were essentially bread knots. It was not seasoned well, if any. Due to the limited options, I guess you can be glad it's half decent but if this place had local competition, I feel it would be difficult to stay in business. read more

3stars feels fair based on a variety of experiences here. I'll say this; the past few times we've visited, the food has been much higher quality than previous visits. Not sure if there's new kitchen staff or new management but Pizza Shack has definitely turned a corner. We used to go to Middleburgh to get decent pizza, and it's nice to know we don't have to do that anymore and can support a local business. The pizza specifically has come a long way, but the food however could use some work still. A meatball sub I ordered here a few months ago wasn't even comparable to subway. A little attention could be paid to the interior as well, as it is about 3 decades outdated. Overall, I would suggest pizza shack to any local or passer through. Went there with my wife for dinner. Ordered eggplant sub and a steak and cheese sub. What a disaster! Eggplant, raw, not breaded as it should be, one slice of mozzarella cheese thinner than a piece of paper. The "steak" sub was sliced pot roast with RAW peppers on top and the bread for both subs was awful. Excuse me for growing up on Long Island and expecting eggplant to be prepared right. Fantastic food. And quick too! The room is a little dark and dingy, as if it's been running for awhile, which I'd only be upset about if it wasn't so damn awesome. We went in for dinner and got the broccoli penne and a personal pizza. Both were delicious. I highly recommend going here. Friends ordered the ziti and the eggplant parm which both got rave reviews as well. It feels homey. The staff is hilarious and obviously well-knit. Hungry in Cobleskill with a pizza craving? Try this spot in the center of town. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. A pretty nice menu with many choices and options. One of our favorites, white veggie pizza was spotted, so we went for it. The pie crust was different than any I've had before, with not a speck of cornmeal on the bottom. After mentioning it to the guy behind the counter swinging the dough, he said the flour does all the work in keeping the pie from sticking to the bottom of the oven. Most pizza cooks believe that the cornmeal acts like "ball berrings", allowing the douch to slide off the peel. I guess this place proved that theory wrong! The pizza arrived, topped with sliced tomato and pesto sauce. No other veggies...which was a downer, and the crust looked as though the pie was rushed out of the oven too soon with it's very pale hue around the edges. Then we bit into it... Man, it was good. Creamy from the ricotta, fragrant from the basil and garlic, and the crust was suprisingly crisp with the right amount of salt. I won't be judging a book by it's cover again, apparrently. The only issue was that I"d like to have seen more vegetables on this "veggie" pizza. Service was good, place was clean and spacious. read more

Came to Cobleskill with out son who is attending Cobelskill in August. Wanted to get a quick bite to eat and found this place. We are from Queens NY so ordered as we would at home. Ordered pepperoni rolls and mozzarella sticks as appetizers. Also ordered our main course. Mrs got baked ziti. Son got penne with chicken and I got the special which was shrimp Diablo with pasta. The main course also came with garlic bread and a salad. Portions were HUGE. As the appetizer came out we knew we were in trouble. lol not only were the portions huge but was some of the best pasta we had. Everything was well seasoned and tasted great. We had to take food back as it was to much to finish. We did however order a piece of cheese cake with was also very good. The service...what can I say...first the waitress was not only good at her job but extremely friendly. Chatting with us the whole time. The owner Al came over to our table to say hello. We told him we were from NY (as was he) and our son was going to college come August. He stood at our table and talked to us for a good 10 minutes. Telling us about his time in NY and all about the area. By the end of our meal he told my son to make sure once he settled in college to stop in and he would help him with a job. We paid the bill and talked to the owner another few minutes. I know this is a long review but I was so impressed not only with the food but with the hospitably of the staff and owner I wanted to make sure I got my point across. There is no great pizza in Cobleskill. Its OK here. Service is sketchy depending on how many college kids are packed in here at any given time. Dinners are pretty good, I had the eggplant rolitini, it was excellent. My family had dinner here while on a college visit. We came here around 8 PM on a Friday evening and it was pretty busy but we were promptly greeted.
