Finally made it back to Hudson valley. Stayed in Windham this time, but still made it top priority to make the quick drive to Piccolo Trattoria. Service was friendly and the food was amazing. The "new" (to us) building was spacious and clean. Perhaps because it wasn't too busy on a Thursday evening, it wasn't overly crowded (three tables were taken when we got there at around 8pm), but you could definitely hear the conversations from tables that were close by. Complimentary rolls were delicious. We got the Calamari Fritta to start and no complaints. Nice, crisp, light breading with a pleasant marinara dipping sauce. My GF got the Gnocchi in a fra diavolo sauce, which she loved (and said would order again) and I got the shrimp scampi with linguine; it came with 7 or 8 decently-sized shrimp that was combined with the silky smooth, lemony, buttery, garlicky scampi sauce. Absolutely would order again. Piccolo Trattoria will always be on my list of go-to places whenever we are in the area. read more

We got takeout because of the high reviews- we were so happy a small town restaurant could be so good. The rice ball appetizer: We have gotten them in Sicily and my MIL and other family members made them- we still get them in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, these were such a strange weird consistency- mushy, almost like mashed potatoes, I think it may have been a tiny bit of rice, mushy breadcrumbs it looked like and a very tiny bit of meat mushed in it. Lasagna- (this was the real reason for our visit- the best is at Canalis in Rotterdam but we hoped for as good and closer)- TOTALLY overcooked mushy pasta (you undercook the noodles Al dente because it's baked and continues cooking after it's made), couldn't taste any of the supposed meat inside, just an overwhelming amount of cheese. All that said- "the bread was good". Staff were friendly and it's a very cute place, but unfortunately we won't be returning. read more

My husband and I ate here on a Sunday night for our anniversary dinner and had a great experience! First, everyone who worked here was incredibly kind and delivered great service from arrival through the entire meal. The bread is amazing and it was warm and so we knew things were looking good! We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, it is a huge portion, easily shareable amongst a group of people but we got through most of it. It tasted very fresh and the breading was nice and light! For my main course I had the short rib ravioli with the bolognese sauce, which is not something I've ever seen on a menu so I was intrigued. Apparently it had been a special for them at one point but it was so popular they added it to the menu. It was excellent and I'm glad I ordered it! Unfortunately, for dessert they were out of a couple items but we ordered the crème brûlée, which was good and tasted like every crème brûlée, which is so to say didn't stand out but was still very good! We would definitely recommend, it's also a huge space and nicely decorated so it could be a great option for larger groups! read more

We were staying at the getaway cabins and unfortunately it rained so we couldn't have a fire and cook outside. We found this amazing Italian restaurant about six minutes down the road. We loved everything from our burrata appetizer, to our pasta entrées, and the delicious ice cream dessert. The portions were very large and the service was wonderful. Great restaurant and food, excellent service. The only thing surprising amongst all the offerings is the size of most tables sitting 2/4 , the size of the tables can barely accommodate a lamp, bread basket, water jug, 4 water glasses, 4 wine glasses and of course salad plates and main course ones. The space of the restaurant is quite spacious and nicely appointed maybe we were the only guests needing more table real estate ! just a comment, we will return to enjoy such delicious meals. read more

It's fine - the menu isn't overly special, but the portions are ENORMOUS. Pasta comes with or is the base of everything. Celiac-sufferers are gonna have a tough time here. The food was fine, good but again, nothing amazing. The service was slow, but the waitstaff was great. We sat in the bar area, and it was nice. The layout of the main dining area makes me think it would be echo-y, but I haven't sat there myself to report back. The real star, for me, was the cake - which was from Catskill Mountain Bakery! The food was really good and you could tell it was homemade. Bread service consisted of yummy doughy rolls with a side of ricotta and roasted peppers. Such a nice change from butter and I see a few restaurants doing this. Hubby ordered lasagna that filled the entire plate . He says it was great . Sauce a little more on the sweeter side . I chose chicken francese . The chicken tasted so good . The sauce was yummy but it was heavy on the chicken stock . Each entree came with a pretty good sized salad . Cute little place in Catskill. Nice ambiance but could use a little more "ambiance" and decor. Some parts of the building definitely feel like a home turned restaurant, not ideal. Anyway, place was busy but the service was still good and the waitress was lovely. I know how hard it is to find good help nowadays so I can empathize with them running around on a Friday night. Food came out warm and as ordered. Steak was great but definitely a small portion. Still it was tasty. Penne vodka sauce was creamy and not too greasy. Chicken was added but it was sliced way too thin for my liking and was a bit dry, probably because of how thin it was. All meals came with fresh rolls and Gorgonzola butter which was okay but not quite "salty" enough for a warm roll. Had a margarita with orange liqueur and that was delicious. We have been going to Piccolo since they started in a garage. I was concerned when they moved to a larger place but we were not disappointed. Our only disappointment was when they moved again and we didn't realize it. We went for our reservation and found the place closed. It didn't take us long to figure out where they were. The new place feels so comfortable. The bar is a good size and often filled with patrons. The food never changed. It is fantastic. Simple flavors that make your mouth want more. We love this place and recommend you give it a try. I have had plenty of appetizers, main courses and lots of specials, all we delicious. If I have to pick one, it would be the first thing I ever had there...the mussels!! Absolutely fabulous. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. Keep up the great food and the great service. I've been supporting this business since they were in a tiny space on Water Street. The food has always been solid but they need to learn how to treat customers. The older blonde lady working the door is just completely rude and nasty. There is no reason a paying customer should have to be subject to condescending comments, getting written off or belittled. I don't care how busy or understaffed you are, it's not acceptable. They are not the only game in town. There's no shortage of exceptional Italian restaurants in Greene, Columbia & Ulster counties. I don't think I'm going to be returning. Especially when every other establishment is happy and appreciative to have my business. read more

The ambiance is non existent, we chose to be seated in the bar, rather than the dining room, which had lighting like a beer hall. I had gnocchi and a meatball. I don't normally write unpleasant reviews, but I felt really misled by the rest of the reviews I read here. I went a few weeks ago with family visiting from out of town and it was not a pleasant experience. I genuinely don't understand the high marks. While the service was thoughtful and excellent, everything else left a lot to be desired. First, when you walk in, there is an overpowering gas smell from the gas fireplace. Second, I could see into the kitchen, which looked like it needed some TLC. There is a back door visible to certain parts of the dining room that is covered in black soot and shoe/hand marks. It made me a little concerned about the rest of the kitchen. As for the food, I am an Italian American from the South Jersey area. I love Italian places with gaudy decor and huge portions. However, the food here just isn't very good. The bread was warmed for us, but tasted like one of those pre-made, par-baked rolls (think Pillsbury). The caesar salad at Piccolo is no doubt made with bottled dressing. The pasta sauces (from the red sauce to the vodka sauce) seem to be made from a jar. The vodka sauce tasted like boxed mac and cheese. One of our chicken dishes also seemed like it had some kind of pre-made sauce and the chicken tasted reheated. Everything tasted pre-made or heated up. I really wanted to like Piccolo, but for the reasons above I won't be returning. read more

Denise is attentive without being intrusive and friendly enough that you feel like she is an old friend! The food is nothing short of amazing! This was our 3rd time dining at Piccolo and it is consistently the best experience we have ever had. The portions are humongous and the attention to detail is unparalleled! The seafood is so fresh! I brought my Mother and family here this evening to celebrate her upcoming birthday while I'm in town. I've got to say that this is undoubtedly one of the most tender pieces of chicken I've ever eaten. I had the Chicken Francese and I'm certain it's the best I've ever had. Simply wonderful. Food well i had veal franchisee and i should have returned it. Very disappointed. My husband had veal parmigiana it was very good so why was one veal good and one not. The Caesar salad very good. And sautéed spinach good. You need to do something about the acoustics they are horrible. I want to talk to the people i am with not listen to others conversations and have to yell to be heard. The chairs were patio furniture for ouside not for inside. For all the work you did to make the place look really nice so get nicer and more comfortable chairs. We ended up outside at a broken plastic picnic table, shoved next to a street with vehicles blowing by and black garbage flies from the river enjoying our food more than we did .
