We've eaten there for over 30 years. it's consistently gone downhill. The only item that remains spectacular are the garlic knots. Last night was one of the worst restaurant meals ever. I asked specifically if the Alfredo was homemade and our server said it was. it was not. it was from a jar, mostly cream (there's no cream in real homemade Alfredo) and the Parmesan cheese was fake. I couldn't finish it and left it on the table when we left. My husband's manicotti was tasteless, no flavor in the filling and the red sauce is pathetic. I hate writing bad reviews but this experience was overall awful. We waited an hour before we were seated (we had a party of 7) and then it took over an hour for our food to come out after being readily able to order right when we sat down. The food was nothing spectacular, noting I wouldn't be able to differentiate the pasta between my mother's cooking, and this supposedly authentic Italian restaurant. The nail in the coffin was when the cashier (I'm assuming the owner) asked how our meal was, I said it was okay but that we had been here since about 7:15pm (it was now past 10pm) and she rebutted was that we got there closer to 7:30 and that they are supposed to close at 8:30pm (as if it was our issue that they were slow as molasses in seating and serving us). There was no apology, no sincerity, and thus, this place does not deserve business. read more

Well, I can't comment on the food, because they lost my order. I arrived to pick up my order to find a pick up line out the door. So, after waiting 20 minutes at least, while the person behind the counter answered the phone and took live orders while those of us in line had to wait. The experience was compounded by the fact that the server kept forgetting the numbers and had to come back and ask again. Some suggestions: When it's busy like this, dedicate someone to answering the phones. Dedicate another to take out orders. The money spent on salaries will be more than made up by the return customers and the positive reviews. Also, take the space behind the kitchen and make that the take out counter. That way, people who are coming in to sit can actually get in without fighting thru the take out line. Last, find a different "system" for orders. It was obvious that it was all too easy for the kitchen to lose the order or lose track of it in the pile of tickets. I can't say I'll go back any time soon. read more

I never can complain about it It's always amazing the fact that this place does not have a five star rating is unacceptable. We waited in the foyer with a few other groups and we all schemed to share the large table altogether ...the table garlic knots was amazing and we ordered a dozen to go at the end. I got the spinach fig salad but my appetite was mostly satisfied by the garlic knots and the boneless*mild* chicken wings. To a kid it was still too spicy but really, it's just a burst of flavor. The LOs got a kid's portion of spaghetti and meatball and the other LO got the chicken fingers with fries for his main course. The beaux got the stuffed manicotti. The food was excellent, and the service was great; however, when I went to pay, I noticed that I was charged for four unsweetened iced teas at $2.50 each, even though two of them were just top-offs and not new glasses. Additionally, after calculating the bill, I realized they had overcharged me by $40, and I also left a generous $30 tip for the nice waitress. Mamma Maria's in Stamford NY is family owned Italian restaurant 1800' high in the hills of Delaware County. A sizeable restaurant with outside seating in fairer weather then our cold and snowy night visit in January, the staff is very welcoming. There is a mix of tables and booths. One of the specials was Scungilli over pasta so my wife did not even look at the menu and I went with a pepperoni Calazone. After placing our order we received 4 complementary garlic knots and as other reviewers note, they are really really good! When our meals came I was treated with a Calazone that is thin in stature but hanging over both ends of the dish by close to 5"! A very unique presentation of a Calazone that I have experienced. It was nicely hot with a tasty sauce for dipping. The crust has a great flavor and it was very good. My loves scungilli over pasta was very good, having a decent amount of scungilli she felt. We passed on dessert this visit as it was getting late and roads were bad but we will be back to Mama Marias for sure! read more

I gave you five stars because the food is very good. However, your system of seating people needs work. Your website says Reservations accepted but in reality you only take reservations for parties of 15 or more. When you get there you give the server your name which is put on a list and you are told to go outside and wait. The day we visited we arrived a little before 5pm on a Saturday, we were told about 20 mins. or so to be seated. We waited patiently outside on the porch and around the 45 minute mark my son decided to inquire about the wait as we noticed people leaving and we should have been next. Well no one had come out to tell us they had a table ready & people that arrived after us were already seated. Luckily another table opened up. We were famished at that point. We ordered our drinks, when they came we ordered an appetizer for the table & gave our dinner orders at the same time. After waiting another 15 minutes the waitress brought our basket of garlic knots & said your salads & soup will be right out. We inquired as to where the appetizer was that was ordered & she said it will be right out. A few minutes later she brought our salads but still no appetizer. She said it would be out in a minute, the table next to us, that was seated after us had theirs already & then ours came out. We ate the salads & the apps and watched as that table next to us got their food which was almost the exact same order as we had put in. Another few minutes later our food finally arrived. I had the eggplant rollitini which I highly recommend. The portion was large enough & the price wasn't too bad either. But the wait for a seat, the wait for our food etc.makes me only want to get takeout from now on. They really need to have a better system in place. read more

Really good food. I ordered lasagna and it was about 5 servings for me. The sauce was quite nice as well. S.O. ordered stuffed shells and was pleased with them as well. But, here's the bad/strange. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were passing through coming home from a weekend getaway. Not necessarily looking for a quick bite but not 2.5 hours! We asked for boxes and the check and waited so long I stood up, found a box, packed my own food and then we just walked up to the front to try to pay. I only have the pleasure of being in that area during the summer, and less so in recent years, but when up there, going to this restaurant is always something that I look forward to, consistently over the years a treat every time. The ownership, the wait staff (Brittany is quite possibly the best waitress ever), the food in both quality and portions plus gently priced, all just absolutely wonderful. I have been a hardcore Mama Maria's fan for over 25 years. I don't get to come nearly as often as I'd like but whenever I am up at my family's cabin, it is a MUST. I've never had a single thing I didn't like. The food has remained consistent the entire time. The garlic knots?!?!?! They're a staple no matter what I order...they're to die for. The staff knows my family personally from the years of being avid customers. The owners and entire family is extremely down to earth, warm, and generous. The word generous also applies to the food portions. Unless you're sasquatch, you will leave with leftovers. We have been coming to Mamas for 30 years or more. Hands down the best place to eat in the area. Family owned and operated. Huge portions of great food. My favorites; mussels in white wine sauce, shrimp oreganato, seafood fra diavolo and the garlic knots. None better anywhere on this planet! You could make a meal just out of knots and some soup! But order a main dish. Too good to pass up. Best pizza in the area and the strombolis are superb. You dont go away hungry and there is so much food you usually have left overs. You will not be dissapointed. Covid era update! We've been getting takeout at Mama Maria's every weekend since things got shut down with Covid and they open back up for takeout. I think we've missed two weekends in the last six months. We'd like to support local businesses. And Mama Marias is our favorite restaurant. I miss some of the specials. But that's to be expected given the circumstances. But everything we get is consistently excellent. Large portions. Great food.
