We were super impressed with Pizza Mill! The cheesy bread was loaded with cheese, the crust was crispy but fluffy, and the flavor was great! The wait was fairly short despite being busy and having limited seating. The staff was really friendly, and the prices were reasonable. It had a cute little dining area perfect for a pizza place. I wanted to support one of the local pizza places in Custer over the chain place so I picked this one. There was a very long line to order and the person taking orders would have the people ordering wait so she could get the takeout orders complete. She also struggled with the tablet that orders were being taken on. Now to the pizza, ordered two 8 inch personal size pizzas. One cheese and one meaty. The outer crust on the cheese was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The middle of the pizza seemed almost raw. The meat pizza was cooked better, the pieces could be picked up because it wasn't as soggy. Flavor on both was ok. read more

Small, local pizza place. We weren't expecting much when we went in. We had a large group (12) and the inside only seats about 16, so I wondered if they'd be able to pull off our order. They did and in spades. Service was quick despite the sudden influx of customers (a few more came in just after us). The pizzas were fantastic--not just good, mind you, but fantastic. I'm glad we decided to give it a go after seeing how small the place was. Will definitely come back for more the next time we're in the area. read more

I'm going by votes from my fellow Yelpers on pizza tonight, don't let me down! Ok, thank you fellow Yelpers! We ordered our pizzas for take out, even though this is one of only a few restaurants open on Sunday evening, we wanted to relax at the hotel. After ordering we walked to Dakotamart for a few items then returned to Pizza Mill. We had to fix our bike rake before getting our pizza and as we were the young woman (late teens!?) from inside bright out the pizza and wings! Then we asked for napkins, plates and forks which she obliged by getting for us. Parking is limited and tables inside even more so, only 5 tables! They do have some seating outside but like I said we took it to the hotel. Now for the food! We ordered a 12 inch with various meats. What can I say but delicious! The crust was good but could have been fantastic if it had cheese in it (after all it's think enough). We also ordered 8 wings. They simply come fried, to golden perfection I might add, and you get sauces to go with it. I got the bbg which had a delicious, smokey flavor. Overall they had a very friendly staff person, sorry I didn't get her name, and delicious food. Be sure to stop here if you're in the mood for some yummy pizza and wings! read more

Pizza Mill pizza has an unusual crust. The cornicione/edge is thick and bready and rolled up....much like a braided soft pretzel dough in taste and texture. The interior is a thin and crispy cracker style, little to no flop. Because the outside crust is so thick we had them bake the whole pie well done to insure the cornicione wasn't doughy. We ordered a large Vegetarian, well done, light on cheese. Toppings were generous. We arrived at 5pm during dinner rush and the service was excellent. It's a pricy pizza, $30 for a 16 inch. We stopped and I went in to order and just got their special that day - an XL one topping pizza with cheese sticks for $21.99. She said it'd be ready in about 20 minutes, it was ready in 15. The pizza was really good as were the cheese sticks. The cheese sticks needed a little more salt/garlic for my taste, but that didn't stop me from eating mine! I would definitely recommend! On our way through the Black Hills towards Rapid City, we drove through Custer and were craving pizza! We ended up passing the first pizza restaurant on the way in from the west side of town as it was on main street but in a very busy area - parking was awful....so we continued to ride our motorcycles further down the main drag until we came across the Pizza Mill. Reading their back story was really interesting and the woman that took our order was so friendly and welcoming. We ordered the cheese filled breadsticks that were really good and marinara sauce for dipping - I loved their sauce. We also ordered a sausage pizza. My only complaint was I was hoping there would be more sauce - they used a lot of cheese (which I will never complain) but there wasn't much sauce on the pizza so it tasted fairly bland and was over powered by the amount of cheese on the pizza. A tip would be to request extra sauce on your pizza. I loved the atmosphere and they did a great job of remodeling an old home into a welcoming space. read more

Food here is phenomenal. I'm glad we stopped in after a long day of hiking. We each got a flatbread and split. The crust is crispy and thin, toppings are piled high to make thick pieces with melted mozzarella cheese holding everything in its place. We got the Reuben flatbread and the smoked brisket flatbread. Both great but I loved the flavor of the smoked brisket and BBQ sauce. The lady working the front counter is also sweet as can be. Highly recommended. I eat a lot of pizza, it's what I do. I love eating pizza. I love trying new places and since I have tried the other place, I wanted to try this one. The chicken wings were really good! My kids loved them! They have a very crispy outside. The breadsticks have cheese in the center. They were ok but the cheese mostly baked out so they were good, not great. I ordered a pepperoni pizza and a philly pizza. Hubby said pepperoni was good. The philly was great! My kids thought both were great! We all agreed it was better than the other local place. I was really worried because the reviews are very mixed but figured, how bad can it be? It's pizza. I was not at all disappointed and really enjoyed dipping my crust in the honey they offer. All in all very enjoyable meal. With only 5 tables inside and maybe just as many outside, we ordered out and took it to the hotel.
