Three meat platter (with all four meats)

Stop thinking and just come here. Super friendly service and some of (if not the best) barbecue we've ever had. Its a good thing we're just passing through custer or my waistline would rapidly balloon. Its a sin that this place has so few reviews. Come with an empty stomach and you will not be disappointed.

    Three meat plate

Wow. So glad we found this spot. We wanted to try as much as possible and had the sausage recommended to us. Im not normally a fan of sausage, but it was the standout dish amidst four all stars. Every meat was beautifully smokey and tender, and the potato salad was bright. If you're stopping at Mt. Rushmore, this place should also be on your list as a monument to great barbecue.

We were just passing thru and were lucky to find this place. We are from Dallas Tx and are used to good barbecue from places like famous Hard 8 and Terry Black's barbecue but the chopped brisket and pulled pork from John Boys had them beat hands down. The dry rub ribs were also excellent. Even the sides Potato salad, and coleslaw were good. Which this place was in Dallas Thai would be our go to barbecue place.

If you are ever close to Custer,SD it's worth your effort to stop at John Boys Texas BBQ. Amazing bbq meats. we had the pulled pork (two days in a row) and it was excellent. Fast service and comfortable and casual dining. This is a small local business that stays open year round so supporting them is worth your while. Side note - his house BBQ sauce is great - you can pick up a bottle and take home with you to bring back memories of the epic meal you enjoyed.

This is some serious Texas brisket! Best that we've had in a long time. This is a great lunch or dinner when visiting Custer State Park.

I had the Walleye Chermoula, and all I can say is...wow. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the subtle North African spices in the chermoula complemented the walleye without overpowering it. It was one of the best dishes I had on the entire trip. As always, we travel with a long list of dietary restrictions. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies, while I manage Alpha Gal syndrome, a tree nut allergy, and diabetes. Our server was outstanding. I didn't write down her name, but she took the time to understand our food sensitivities, answered our questions, and made sure we were comfortable with our meal choices. The attentive service really elevated the experience. The restaurant has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It would work well for a casual business lunch or dinner, and families with small children should feel comfortable here as well. Its location is another plus. It's just off the main tourist area in downtown Custer, making it easy to walk to after exploring the shops, and there is convenient parking nearby. This was an easy five stars for us. If you're near Custer, Custer Wolf should be on your short list. Highly recommended.

When I went inside to the bar to pick up my order, there were two male bartenders working. One was deeply engaged in a lengthy conversation with another customer about different beers, while the other appeared to overlook me, even though I was the only other person waiting. After standing there for a while, I finally spoke up and let him know I was there to pick up a takeout order, and he then assisted me. We ordered the bulgogi dish. It was decent, though it was more of a stir-fry than the traditional bulgogi I was expecting. Overall, the meal was okay, but it didn't stand out enough that I would make a point of returning.

Fortunately it moved fairly quickly. Service was efficient and friendly. The decor is pleasant, kind of a purple Victorian farm house feel. I got a slice of the apple pie and the peanut butter pie to go. The apple pie was awesome! Redolent of cinnamon, the filling was fully cooked, full of soft apple-y goodness. The crust was flaky and sweet and might have have sugar and cinnamon baked in the top crust. Delicious! The peanut butter pie was also great. A soft, light peanut butter filling in a flaky crust. Yummy! The apple pie was the star of the show for me this visit. I can't speak to their ice cream or other offerings. But it looks like they offer lots of savory items as well as coffee drinks. The pie here is truly delicious! My friend did not steer me wrong!

Starter and food, drinks, etc., are brought promptly to the table. This is exceptional in a highly popular tourist area. The food is good but could use a little improvement--the grilled mahi-mahi was good, but a little on the dry sauce and definitely needed a sauce. A couple of the dishes did have sauces, but fish is why most Creole restaurants like Brennan's will serve a sauce on the side, or a topping with butter such as Trout Almandine. It doesn't have to be a fancy sauce--the option of good ol' tartar sauce works. The grilled vegetables also needed a little more butter and seasoning. Carrots are good on their own; broccoli and cauliflower need a little cheese or butter and some seasoning to be loved. The IPA (Long John) was excellent. The beer cheese dip and soft pretzels were to die for; the chardonnay was passable. A great choice for dining in a VERY heavily traveled tourist destination. Get there early--it starts filling up fast and all the restaurants around Mount Rushmore close at 9.
