We were on vacation and had just arrived in South Dakota after 8 hrs of driving. We're staying at one of the hotels up the street. We know the area around Keystone but not Custer, so we didn't know of any good eating spots in the area. We had seen the Dakota Broasted sign as we arrived, so we decided to give it a shot. My watch was still on California time, so we thought we had time before they closed. As we approached the building we were met by an employee who told us they were closed. To our surprise, as we started walking back to our car, she invited us to put our order in even though they had just closed. We couldn't believe it. She genuinely wanted to help her customers! Being that they were closed she could only offer us a limited menu. We were appreciative and gladly made our choices, And we were not disappointed! The chicken, potatoes and rolls were great! The seasoned chicken was fantastic! We had intended to save some for the next day but we ended up finishing everything that night. We can't thank you enough for making our day as we were tired from our long trip. We definitely recommend Dakota Broasted Chicken. read more

We walked up to order, the people working were really sweet and helpful! They have a drive through and a couple picnic tables outside but we drove to Sylvian lake for an afternoon lunch. It was a perfect meal with a perfect view. Chicken was so crispy and so juicy it literally came off the bone, the coleslaw was some of the best I've had. The wedges!! Great fried chicken! Didn't know what broasted chicken was... had to look it up. Got the 4piece basket which came with seasoned potato wedges. Ordered, paid and food was ready by the time I drove to the other side of the place. Chicken was crispy on the outside and perfect tenderness on the inside. Wedges were tasty as well. Great place for chicken and sides! A unique local chicken shack. The chicken dinners come with potato wedges, rolls, and coleslaw or beans. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. Potato wedges were a little too salty, but maybe that's just me. The coleslaw was the best I've ever tried. There was a long line in their version of a drive-thru when we came (Friday afternoon around 5:30), but you can park and order at the walk-up window. Service was friendly and very fast, even though everything is cooked fresh. Note that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. read more

Driving thru Custer, SD between Mt Rushmore and Wind Caves NP. Boy Howdy was I thrill to see a sweet little BROASTED CHICKEN place, right along the road. Very modest drive up, great varied menu too. Low prices for a big, boxed meal! Potato wedges also broasted tasted like baked potatoes. 2nd side and a large fresh dinner roll. Did I mention delicious and very small price?! This place brings back memories. I worked at a broasted chicken place in High School and this was even better than I remembered. Crispy yet juicy and the potato wedges are excellent. Had visited 2 days earlier spent over $50 on meal. Revisited to get some sides today. She was upset that's all we ordered. Refused to give us ketchup for our potatoes we ordered. Said they charged extra for ketchup ! Super ungrateful for returning customers. Won't ever visit or spend money there ever again. Doesn't appreciate her customers. We even let her keep the change. Because we love supporting small businesses. Shes so stingy couldn't give ketchup for their potato wedges we just purchased. Thats how they treat out of town visiting patrons. We took a trip up to the Black Hills from Texas, and we stopped here after visiting Jewel Lake for a quick bite. We got a bucket of bone in, tenders, and wedges. Buckets of chicken are mix of light and dark meat no substitutions, but nicely seasoned and crispy!
