A friend recommended this place to me, and she is a pie aficionado. I dropped in on a summer weekday afternoon and the line to order pie and ice cream was long. Fortunately it moved fairly quickly. Service was efficient and friendly. The decor is pleasant, kind of a purple Victorian farm house feel. I got a slice of the apple pie and the peanut butter pie to go. The apple pie was awesome! Redolent of cinnamon, the filling was fully cooked, full of soft apple-y goodness. The crust was flaky and sweet and might have have sugar and cinnamon baked in the top crust. Delicious! The peanut butter pie was also great. A soft, light peanut butter filling in a flaky crust. Yummy! The apple pie was the star of the show for me this visit. Coming from Wisconsin where we pride ourselves to having the best ice cream/custard, when a place says home made ice cream they better make it real good. This place outsources their ice cream. I think it's by kemps, but the ice cream we got looked and tasted old. Like it's been sitting there for a few weeks. I say this cause you can tell it's more ice, than cream. It has a weird sweetness to it. It doesn't taste like real dairy or at all fresh made like they advertised. The pie was ok. The crust was fine, but the filling seemed like store bought pudding with some coconut mixed into it. Not enough coconut. Not something I would come back for. While visiting a friend in South Dakota, I found myself driving through the cute town of Custer. Immediately the bright purple building caught my eye. They are known as a pie place but they also have lunch and ice cream. I had to have the coconut crème pie and the rhubarb-strawberry-jalapeño pie. Love, love, love Purple Pie Place. My family stopped in for lunch while in town visiting. We ordered our meals and polished them off with pie and that is obviously (because it's in the name) the highlight of the visit. We each ordered a different pie and every one was absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the rhubarb, my sone the apple and I ordered the jalapeno rhubarb all a la mode, of course. The crust on this pie is the best I've had. I am not one to order pie other than Holidays but this was well worth it. The jalapeno was good with a little spice. A popular place! Line was long, but moved quickly. We got the strawberry rhubarb pie and the peanut butter pie (with plans to split those) and a scoop of huckleberry ice cream. One thing is that we had asked if the ice cream could be set on the side (because we have someone who is lactose intolerant) and the girl smiled at us and put the ice cream right on top of the rhubarb pie, so we had to take some quick action to salvage the half of pie that the lactose intolerant person could eat. The peanut butter had a more subtle flavor and the strawberry rhubarb was sweet. The huckleberry ice cream was good, but still cant beat the huckleberry fudge ice cream sold in some of the national parks. This place has the cutest ambiance and decor. It's a purple house right of the main highway you can't miss. Up front is a the ice cream parlor with seating toward the rear. They have a small soup, sandwich, and salad menu with various ice creams and homemade pies. The paninis were okay - they come with a bag of lays potato chips. The ice cream and pies were amazing! June 21, 2025 We have stopped here several times in the past. It is always busy and you can't miss it if you are driving down the highway. We have found the pies to be really good. The ice cream is ice cream and nothing special. The people who work there are very friendly. they have inside and outside seating which was convenient to us as we had our dog with us. The dessert pies were good- J got the bumbleberry which was raspberry, rhubarb, strawberry and blackberry I think. It was very good and a good recommendation from our waitress. I got the peanut butter pie- it was served very chilled so it was hard, like hard ice cream consistency. We were here in 2019 & love it. We were back in town today & it's still just as good. The pie is excellent. My wife loves the strawberry rhubarb. I had the blackberry. If it's homemade they fake it well! I had the turkey bacon panini. It was good. We also got a large Mac & cheese to share & it was also quite good. Iryna was attentive & knowledgeable about the menu. She was even able to list all 16 flavors of ice cream! It was quiet in the dining area. It is over priced, but in the Black Hills on the 4th of July so is just about everything!
