1.5 stars. **** update! Go to Cream.. across the street from Alpine Inn -- home made EVERYTHING and better prices**** Standard generic candy/ice cream shop found in every tourist town. They make fudge but the rest of the candy and ice cream is purchased and resold. Tried some fudge, available in a variety of flavors, but they pretty much all taste the same. Also tried two malts which lost several points when the staffer pulled out a can of reddi-whip. Interesting and annoying point: the straws are very slim and weak. Like the super cheap straw made for drinking soda and other free flowing and thin liquids--not for milk shakes. Pretty difficult to drink when your straw keeps collapsing and forget trying to suck up any chunks that are mixed in. Most the employees appear to be kids hired for the summer who want to try hard but seem overwhelmed with the tasks and the customers. We had to wait quite some time to pay as we were apparently forgotten by our person. I wouldn't go back, there's a Dairy Queen a couple stores down and the result is the same but slightly cheaper. By the way, I don't even like DQ but I'd prefer that to this place. read more

Great salt water taffy ... fresh, a lot of flavors and can pick your own ... we had to go back a second time for another bag of taffy!! I would highly recommend the chocolate dipped macaroons as well... I got one when they were freshly made and it was the best I've ever had!! Cute little place, especially if you have a sweet tooth!! read more

Fantastic Mocha and treats! We stopped here before getting on the 1880 train ride. My husband got hot chocolate and a white chocolate turtle and I got a turtle mocha and fudge covered donut. Everything was so good! We even bought iced dog treats for our pups. Nice folks. Would totally go back. :) read more

really friendly staff! they are actually open 9-8pm (not 6pm as listed by yelp) large variety of chocolates and candies. good selection of ice creams- esp sundaes, malts, shakes etc. the hard ice cream itself was a bit of a let down to me- looked amazing but kind of weak flavor, kind of tasted like sweet milk. beware of getting two scoops!!! cause I did and they handed me straight up a half gallon worth of ice cream. I think maybe soft serve sundae would the way to go in the future read more

It all started with the chocolate trays of homemade, dark chocolate peanut butter cups in the window... we could not resist them. We also picked up salted dark chocolate caramels, chocolate covered fruit (raspberry, cherry, orange), cashew turtles, just to name a few... And it comes in...wait for it.. SUGAR FREE...hubby was very happy. Then, there is my favorite, which I have not made in decades... Divinity... oh so good, a huge piece with nuts, which I nibbled on for three days. Yes I made it last that long :) Sorry folks it doesn't come sugar free. Then to deal with the whine from your travel mates, they also feature some local wine and other assorted give items. We picked up some Strawberry Rhubarb jam for our neighbors. We also had some coffee for the road, along with saltwater taffy and gummy bears for later. And if you cannot make the trip to the "Hills", shop online; they deliver. read more

Updated: We went to Cream down the street and it was amazing, actually homemade ice cream, better prices, and the coffee is top notch if you're into that. This just isn't that good. It's McDonald quality shakes and ice cream for absurd prices. The service was extremely poor. And they have these skinny plastic straws that you can't even drink a shake with. read more

How could anyone give this terrific dessert shop anything less than 5-stars I don't know. They have fudge and other treats on display in the large glass-covered case outside the store, which essentially was the draw that drew us in. I purchased a Dark Chocolate Coconut "Haystack" while my friend ordered a Large Peanut Butter Filled treat. I took mine home with the express purpose of making it last at least a couple of days, while my friend tried (and failed) to devour his the first night. Our third friend isn't much on chocolates or sweets, so he had a Latte, which he said was delicious and was a perfect way to cap off dinner at a nearby restaurant in downtown Hill City, SD. read more

I was surprised to see some of the negative reviews of this place because I thought it was amazing. Their caramel was divine and obviously homemade! We visited here every day that we were in the area. One day, we visited twice! Their ice creams are divine. Huge portions. We also enjoyed the fudge. Turtle Town also has a huge selection of sugar free chocolate. I loved the turtles. (Wasn't as crazy about the orange chocolates.) They also sell local bottles of wine. The hours are much more generous than listed here. While we were in town, they were open until ten p.m. This will be the first stop on our next trip to the Black Hills! read more

Your average fudge/candy/ice cream store. They had fudge specials which is nice. My favorite of the assorted fudge flavors was peanut butter. I also got a mint chocolate truffle and it was amazing. The ice cream flavors were very non traditional and didn't look good so I passed on those. There was only one girl working and she was very nice. read more

We came from out of town excited to shop this quaint little town starting with coffee and chocolate. The person behind the counter asked for my drink order. While making my coffee she didn't speak to any of the other 4 people in my party. When she was done my daughter ordered her coffee and very gruffly she stated we should give her all the coffee orders at once. She was also seemed upset that we wanted to purchase chocolate. Shame she didn't seem to want my $25 in business. read more

This place is amazing! I'm literally floored by the other two reviews. I'm not sure what willy wonka crazy candy shops they are used to but this place is legit to me! Tons of stuff to choose from: fudge, chocolates, caramels, taffy, ice cream, espresso, and a collection of local jams and wines. The owner is amazingly friendly and makes all the goodness himself, in-house. It's local, it's handmade, it's soooo yummy. There is usually a special or two and even freebies and samples. My favorite is the dark chocolate sea salt caramels. Mmmmm. Highly recommend! So you're in the middle of a National Forest, it's beautiful outside, stop being such a picky loser and eat some chocolate! ;) read more

As a typical tourist, this place never fails to please. The lattes are perfectly prepared, the ice cream is creamy and yummy, the milk chocolate cashew turtles divine. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and never make you feel like a bother for wanting just *one* more thing. I always leave feeling spoiled rotten and grinning ear to ear. read more

We bought 3 flavors of fudge and got 1 free and not one was any good. Now we have two pounds of sub par fudge, and would love to give the fudge back, even if they only accept the free fudge we have. To be fair, this is the start of the tourist season, so perhaps the fudge was just left over from last season. I would have given this review two stars, but the vocal contempt towards customers and rude comments of one of the employees caused me to bump the rating down to one star. Don't get the fudge here unless you want to taste dark blocks of sugar with stale nuts and be treated like a dummy only good for your wallet of money. read more

This was our first time ever Disney and we walked in we were not greeted like customers were after we had walked in we stood there were not spoken to you at all I had looked at the lady that was working behind the counter ago it's around here I do not know her name or nor could I tell you because she was not wearing a name tag but had a very very dirty apron on; so I try to clear my throat a couple times she did nothing I said skews me ma'am is there anybody else working here I just would like a couple of truffles because she was making espresso coffee and taking about 10 minutes to do so and so she kept looking behind her and then she walked off and try to call somebody and there was another person standing there and it look like they were eating or something and then they were like weird reluctant to come up the blonde and then she looked at me and I gave her look like you need to get your pretty little butt up here right now and help me and then she went behind the counter like she said something in her mouth again and then she called her again I said I need help and I couldn't hear what the blonde said she said no I am busy number and so she reluctantly came up as slow as she possibly could and came and helped us somewhere and willing nervously at me the whole entire time and I cannot believe the service that I received there after I saw that they were honored by the presidents wife and other people like that just really really really sad! read more

Good selection of candy, ice cream, and chocolates. I recommend getting hot coffee and not iced. I don't know what they use as a base for the ice coffee, I think it's cold brewed coffee and not espresso, but it is not good. Has a very bitter taste and cannot taste the flavoring. Two people in our party got flavored iced coffee and both were a waste of money. read more
