We were looking for something local while on vacation and the Frontier name got votes from my 10 year old, so we went a little off the path to this sports bar. It's a little rough on the outside, but was clean inside. The food was good. Fried pickle app, several burger combos and a chicken strip combo for our family of 5. My burger had the buffalo sauce and jalapeños but wasn't too spicy. We all got Pepsi products. We were on vacation, so we worried a little less about the price, but the tab was $99 plus the tip I left. The place was almost empty on a weekday, which is probably due to being on the wrong side of town (to catch tourist traffic) or the pricing that was a little high for local lunch traffic. I don't remember the waitress name, but she was friendly and took good care of us. I would encourage others to give it a shot when passing through town. read more

We popped in here for dinner one night. and they had a special of smoked ribs... And oh my gosh I'm so glad we took their recommendation. It was so good. We (3 of us) wanted to get a quick lunch at a local spot while in the area. We sat at the bar. One other person was seated and the restaurant was not busy. Two bartenders were behind the bar. We sat for 6-7 minutes while they were actively in front of us. They did not greet or acknowledge us at all. We continued to wait a minute then got up to leave. Went there because we needed something quick. It wasn't. And they had a lot of things that weren't available. And what was was pretty poor quality. I've been to many bars with great food but this one wasn't. I'm giving it 2 stars because my wife's chicken sandwich was decent, nobody else was impressed. Came in Labor Day weekend. Super busy. It's a family owned business, so you have to give them a huge pass for trying to keep up. Food was solid, nothing to get a Michelin star, but good nonetheless. We went into this place for lunch. It was empty and soon found out why. My freind ordered the cod basket it was 9.90 with two tiny pieces, about 8 tutor tots and half a paper cub of Cole slaw. I got the burger special, I was told it was 9.90 with everything on it. They charged me 13.90 for a tiny burger and a dollar or more for each item on it. Ie.. lettus 1.50, pickle 1.00, onion 100, tomato 1.50. It was the size of mcds hamburger cooked to a hard dry mass. Came with 8 tutor tots and half a cup (size you put ketchup in at mcds) order slaw. Awesome dive bar! Typical bar menu expect their BBQ ribs. Husband gets ribs at every restaurant and these were by far the best he has ever had. Secret recipe that the owner won't give up! I can see us coming back next summer just got the ribs! read more

Was here for bike week. Waitress With An attitude. Tells us. I only have 2 hands when asked for A few condiments. Had A burger but you have to pay for condiments. They charge for the onion the tomato and the lettuce. It was on the bill. Speaking of splitting the bill? Guess what an extra charge. Why? Its not that hard to split A bill. I highly recommend this place! On vacation headed to mt. Rushmore and passed thru Custer. We were hungry and looked for a place that could accomodate a pickup pulling a fifth wheel. We saw their parking lot and pulled in. Since we don't drink and this looks more like a good old boy bar we were hesitant once we walked in. However, a patron there said they had excellent food, the owner Barb waited on us and told us about their ribs. Two of us had their hamburgers...excellent! We stopped in to the Frontier for some lunch with our two young children. We were able to sit outside and soak up some extra sunshine. Our waitress was friendly although she looked severely hungover- I almost felt bad for her! We all ordered burgers and either tots or fries. The burgers were better than average but everything else was ho-hum. My hubby and I had the Custer Burger with bacon, cheese and BBQ sauce. We found this place just by chance. We stopped in and was immediately by the owner. He sat us down and went over the menu and bar options. He recommended the burgers as their specialty. Steer clear. These folks have no idea how to run a restaurant. They were busy when we arrived and asked us to be patient and we were okay with that but once ordered no one returned for over an hour and then only to say they were out of chicken strips. We substitute cheese sticks and about 10 minutes later they came out but not the rest of our food. It finally came out after another 10 minutes. Awesome! The owner was the only one there when we arrived, and we hesitated but decided to go in. SO GLAD we did. The food was awesome (I had the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries; fiancé had buffalo bill burger). Both were excellent. The owner was nice, friendly, and knowledgable. We could smell our food cooking- no heat lamps here! Very cool, homey, warm atmosphere. Bad, bad, bad! Took the family for dinner here. No kid's menu the waitress tells us kid's menu is Hamburger, Cheeseburger or Chicken strips. They should have said chicken strip as in one strip and a bag of chips for $7.50. The food is just okay eatable but not good chili no flavor at all. .50 for a cup of chopped onions or should I say a few small pieces of onion. The only place in town with no wait for a table. Sorry, but i would advise you to take a hard pass on this one folks. The bartender was pleasant, but that's all I can come up with for the pro list. Cons are innumerable. It was sweltering inside, our drinks were flat, she delivered 3 out of 4 of the orders incorrectly, not to the wrong person mind you, but just the completely wrong food. Bathroom hadn't been cleaned in a while. But here's the worst part - the food was just plain, basket, reheated bar food. No problem. We just wanted a quick meal. Ordered the wing appetizer and was surprised to only get 6 wings for around 9 dollars. One of them were still frozen, so we only got to eat 5... Besides that, the honey garlic sauce was awesome. The chicken sandwich i ordered and the burger my girlfriend ordered were average at best. The size of the burgers were also questionable for 10 dollars. A friend got the chicken finger meal and was absolutely tickled to only receive 2 fingers. The service was interesting as well, as the waitress had no idea about the menu. Although the food was good, the service was awful. Our bartender/waiter had no clue what he was doing. After finding a table and waiting several minutes (we were the only customers in the establishment) we walked up to the bar to get drinks and menus for ourselves. As soon as we got our food and started eating the owner came to our table and insisted that we play pool with him. After a few words it became obvious that he was VERY intoxicated. Stopped by for a quick post 7 mile hike comfort food and despite feeling starved still found the food to be shamelessly low quality, overpriced, greasy, and tasteless. The service was quick since the place was deserted and we ordered a soup, burger, and a ham and cheese sandwich (fast comfort food). Soup was watered down with over cooked noodles and a few celery and chicken chunks (over cooked as well). The ham and cheese sandwich was overly greased yet burnt with 3 thin ham slices and a slice of American cheddar cheese. I struggled to taste anything but the bread. The quarter pound burger came with a dollop of blue cheese and a folded yet still thin single slice of bacon. Fries and tater tots were good but the number could be counted on two hands. Although disappointing we were hungry enough to make the best of it. The service was friendly but failed to mention the 4% credit card charge. Higher quality lower cost food is available right down the street. For example try Custer Wolf or anywhere else in Custer. In a nutshell: low quality fast food at quality restaurant prices. read more
