Pretty good, straightforward and good prices Loved the spicy green sauce but the tamale didnt taste authentic- everything was good though Service was great too!

Was two fish and one shrimp taco- my apologies- I was hungry...

Great fish and 1 shrimp taco in the corn tortillas. Rice & beans perfect. Free chips and great made in house salsa. Good straight forward family style Mexican restaurant, clean, and with solid service. I've had similar up and down Baja, mainland Mexico, and southern California, so not sure when someone says it's not authentic? Two other tables commented on tastiness. Be advised- no alcohol served.

We went with the "Mexican Breakfast" and it did not disappoint with the Huevos Rancheros and the Sausage Burrito.

An awesome authentic Mexican restaurant in the area! Everything we ordered was amazing, and we were scraping the plates to get the last bites! You can tell that this is a family owned business, which my girlfriend and I love because it gives an amazing feeling!

Really great food, good service even with it being off season in a tourist town. Really good Mexican food! Tamales and tortillas were homemade to order.

My sister and I ordered two plain bean and cheese burritos with rice and beans to-go, and she ordered one soda. Her total was $17.28 and mine was $14.50. For ONE plain burrito. The tortillas are hard, the rice is mush and for whatever reason covered with cheese, and the beans are decent but not nearly the best we have ever had. No chips on the side. No salsa. One napkin to share. That about sums it up.

Saturday night around 7 pm and we decided to try Maria's. They had 2 servers working (that we saw) and they were always busy. We ordered our food and got our food in a good time. Chips, salsa and beans were complimentary. They were good. Unfortunately, our waitress never came to check on us because she didn't know we got our meals (the other server brought our meals out.) I had the steak quesadilla and it was good. (In my opinion it was not worth the $11 since it did not include any rice or beans. My hubby had the sopas. He said one was really soggy and he could not eat it. His meal came with rice and beans. We wanted ice cream so we ordered the sopapillas. We got it, hubby tried the ice cream but was disappointed to find out it was whip cream. We asked about it when we paid and they said they ran out of ice cream. That would have been nice to know before we ordered it.

Our waitress was funny and nice. The food was fast, hot and good tasting and I think they stayed open a little late to accommodate us.

Popular place with a wide variety of choices for dinner--friendly and attentive service (if you…read moredon't see your server, ask another--they clearly work well as a team) and interesting decor. Starter and food, drinks, etc., are brought promptly to the table. This is exceptional in a highly popular tourist area. The food is good but could use a little improvement--the grilled mahi-mahi was good, but a little on the dry sauce and definitely needed a sauce. A couple of the dishes did have sauces, but fish is why most Creole restaurants like Brennan's will serve a sauce on the side, or a topping with butter such as Trout Almandine. It doesn't have to be a fancy sauce--the option of good ol' tartar sauce works. The grilled vegetables also needed a little more butter and seasoning. Carrots are good on their own; broccoli and cauliflower need a little cheese or butter and some seasoning to be loved. The IPA (Long John) was excellent. The beer cheese dip and soft pretzels were to die for; the chardonnay was passable. A great choice for dining in a VERY heavily traveled tourist destination. Get there early--it starts filling up fast and all the restaurants around Mount Rushmore close at 9.

I owned a very successful BBQ business in…read moreLong Beach CA from which I retired a few years ago, so I have a lot of BBQ and deli experience, having run 2 locations for 12yrs. SM's BBQ food is undoubtedly some of the worst I have ever had. We used professional Southern Pride smokers...they obviously use inferior equipment, as their food is overwhemingly so smoky you cannot taste the meat or seasoning. That's what often happens when you use ALL WOOD for your cooking. Admittedly there are some places which seem to be able to mitigate the excessive smokiness to a degree...our smoker used gas and just one log. No one ever complained that our food wasn't smoky enough. Had the brisket, ribs, pulled pork. As they say in baseball, 3 strikes and you're out. They even managed to screw up a BLT...3 skimpy thin slices of bacon from the menu which promised much more, and a sandwich which belongs on a kid's menu for $10. Their idea of coleslaw was cabbage mix with dressing drizzled on top. We sold coleslaw @ our place, made to order, but tossed just before service. Service favored regulars, and bar business obviously took precedence over food business. If there were more local options, this place would certainly be out of business by now. Pick any other place but here.
