    Amazing breakfast spot
    Randall B.

It was supremely a glorious morning riding around Custer State Park. Stopping here and there to take in the glory of nature. As I rounded a corner I see a stunning lake with dramatic rock backdrops and surrounded by pine. I pulled in to stop and take it all in. At first glance the building appeared to be a camp store or park information center. But as I walk into the deck I realize it's a restaurant and they're open! When I walked in I was immediately greeted and was shortly seated. I asked about seating on the deck and was told I could buy was warned about the small army of flies out there this morning. So I poured for a window seat instead. I ordered a water and cafe mocha to drink and later decided on the western scramble which was made with ham, peppers & onions, 2 eggs topped with cheese and dice seasoned potatoes with wheat toast on the side. It took a little to get my order but it was worth it. Everything was delicious and even though I was worried the toast was going to be over done it too was just right.

Sat here for 30 minutes without a drink or anyone taking our order. This place is severely understaffed but the food was pretty good.

The chicken strip basket was awful. The chicken was so thin it was all dried out. The cheeseburger was overcooked.

I had the chicken strip basket with fries and my husband had the flat bread pizza and a Buffalo snot beer, new favorite.

We were driving a rental car, that had a wonky license plate that was hanging on by one screw. As we walked in the restaurant manager had noticed our license plate, and offered to help us fix it when we were finished. He then sat us in a partially full dining room, which is beautifully decorated. I went with the bison chili, and it was super tasty! For me, it was a little bit on the spicy side, but I know for a lot of people they would love it that way. I asked for a side of cornbread, as I had just ordered a cup of the chili, not the main chili meal, and they were very gracious and brought one out. The cornbread was also super delicious! As we finished our meal, it had started to rain. The manager stood by his offer to help us with the license plate, and met us just up the road a bit at a place where the maintenance supervisor's truck was located so that he could get us a zip tie to fix our license plate. It was such a nice gesture, and we appreciated that he went out of his way to help us. We would highly recommend the Blue Bell Lodge!

We saw bison outside our cabin and nearby grazing in the grassy area out front. We loved having our own kitchen where we got food at a local grocery store in the town of Custer and made our own meals. We enjoyed having coffee in the mornings on the front patio and there is a picnic table you can sit out. There was a couple bunnies that we would see when sitting out on our front porch and we loved watching them! The cabins allowed for a peaceful and relaxing stay and you are right in the heart of Custer State Park. The bed was comfy and the cabins were well stocked. We only got WiFi at the main lodge but didn't really care because we didn't go to be on our phones, but instead to enjoy nature and the wildlife around us. We ate lunch once at the restaurant but feel there are our better restaurants in the town of Custer. The lodge has a gift shop if you are looking for souvenirs or gifts. We really enjoyed our stay here and absolutely loved Custer State Park.

The complements and accolades stop there. You get almost nothing for, in my case, $250/night. You get a roof over your head but that is it. You do not get: WiFi in the rooms (ridiculous in 2025 but you can go to the lobby) or room service in any fashion (ridiculous). You are expected to check out by 10 AM (ridiculous). The bathroom is so incredibly tiny that the bathroom door only clears the toilet by 1". The rooms are not very well appointed, and are instead, quite tacky. I will not be back and I encourage you to find other accommodations. If all they have to hang their hat on is that two presidents stayed there, they should re-evaluate everything.
