We rented 3 cabins at Legion Lake for our annual family vacation. This was the first time staying at Custer State Park. I will say the staff is warm and friendly. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. The service is a little slow, so don't be in a hurry. We were on vacation so that was not a problem. The food is very good. We ate here 3 times! And with 10 pp I think we tried almost everything on the menu. The store is more of a gift shop, so don't look for milk, s'mores kits, bread or forgotten items here. The Lodge itself is well maintained and clean. (note many flies when eating-wish they could do something about those both inside and outside). Now to the cabins-the setting is lovely and the views beautiful overlooking Legion Lake. All are in walking distance to the lake down hill there, uphill back. Unfortunately, they are not well maintained. Galena Cabin at check in, the closet door was off, the one of the toilet seats was broke and several lights did not work. Also, of note we could not check in on time because the cabin was still being cleaned. At 4:40p it was "ready". One of the bathrooms was not clean, the floors not sweep or vacuumed. Also, with the view you think they would clean the windows at some point. How did it pass inspection to be turned over to new arrivals is beyond us. We cleaned the bathroom ourselves. We did ask for the items to be fixed and they never were during our stay. One of our cabins #5 had an outlet in the kids room with exposed wires, and the hot water knob didn't work in the shower. My son, fixed the outlet and shower knob so they could shower each day. Over all the cabins are nicely furnished, roomy, they supply all the towels, soap, dish soap, trash bags, and pick up your trash as needed, but in need of much maintenance. Legion Lake had great amenities that we all enjoyed-fire pit, hike around the lake, kayak rentals, fishing, swimming, lovely sand beach.

Excellent spot for lunch while visiting Custer State Park. There are perhaps four places within the park to grab a quick meal. This one is nice because it has indoor and outdoor dining. Table service is only for the indoor dining. Menu is a bit limited and prices are high but the food is good and the service friendly and quick. You can't beat the view of the lake from the dining room!

After more than a week on the road, I was dying to pop into a refreshing cool lake and have a swim. I finally got my chance in Custer State Park at Legion Lake - it is a gorgeous little lake surrounded by very large male bison peacefully grazing and pretending to ignore the humans. In late August - the ambient temperature was in the high 80s/low 90s and the lake was still a bit cool - but it felt really great after I got completely wet and I just soaked and floated for a bit and felt so much more peace. The rock walls facing from the other side are beautiful - and the sounds of young boys laughing and playing on the water with paddle boats was most excellent musical accompaniment. Great lake, go swim it!

One of the best parts is the location -- only about 30 minutes from Mount Rushmore, which made it easy to explore the area without a long drive. The hotel had a few nice touches we appreciated, especially the outdoor patio and the clean-looking pool and jacuzzi area. Breakfast was decent as well and worked perfectly before heading back on the road. The biggest downside is that some parts of the property feel dated. The carpet in the hallways and elevator areas is pretty worn out and could really use replacing because it affects the overall impression of the hotel. We also had an issue with the refrigerator in room 308 constantly making noise through the night, which wasn't ideal for sleeping. Still, the room itself was comfortable enough, and considering the location and price, it's a solid option for a short stay -- just with a few overdue updates needed.

Relatively large hotel, with a good size pool although there seems to be a lot of kids all the time so not possible to swim. Room is a good size with either view of the road in front or trees in back. We had a room with 2 queens. Clean, comfy bed and good bedding and pillows. There is a fridge and microwave, although no real cups to use in it unless you bring your own. Bathroom is quite spacious with shower over tub. Hot water takes a while to flow but once it comes it's a good strong shower. Room also had a table and two regular chairs. Wi-Fi a bit weak. Relatively large hotel, breakfast room quite big but can get crowded around 8. Included breakfast with Eggs and bacon, oatmeal, yogurt, apples and bananas, basic and average as expected for this class of accommodation. Compare to other places this one has a lot more children maybe due to the area attractions.

When I tried to cancel it they wouldn't let me as it was already within the 24 hour window. My bad. I'm glad that we went as it ended up being a positive experience. It is in Custer which is a central area for the whole South Dakota experience. You're about 12 miles from jewel cave and about the same if not less from Crazy Horse. When we got there at 22:30, the place was absolutely full with only one parking left, in front of our room. Check in was fast and courteous, as were all the staff I met during the visit. There's a pool and spa which were unused by us. I was traveling with wife and two teens. I booked the one room suite with one King and two doubles. There was a microwave, Fridge and a TV in each room. There's a single bath with uncomplicated hot and cold shower controls; a major plus. Aircon was good, if a little whinny. Good furnishings which looks as if the place was modernized recently. Our room had a bath, which is a major plus for the missus. Where this place is great is with the breakfasts. Until 9am, it is inclusive with you stay. Boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins, bagels, juices, cereals, good coffee, waffles, pastries, sort of scrambled eggs and the best sausages outside of the U.K. Really. I asked for the supplier so I can get my own as I haven't found decent sausages in the US u to now. Family slept way past when they should've, which is a compliment to the beds and the noise levels. If I ever come this way again would definitely make this a base for travels in the area.

I specifically reserved and confirmed a ground-floor ADA-accessible room with two beds because both my father and I are unable to carry luggage upstairs. On the day of arrival, after spending over an hour being bounced between the hotel and corporate customer service, I was informed that our reserved room had been given away. We were told our only option was an upstairs room requiring stairs, and that no refund would be provided. When we arrived, there were numerous unassigned rooms still available. The sole employee on duty insisted there were no remaining ground-floor rooms with two beds. However, another party in our group checked in after us and was immediately assigned exactly that type of room. Thankfully they switched rooms with us, though even that was met with resistance and attitude from the front desk. What bothered me most was not the mistake itself, but the complete lack of accountability, empathy, or apology. The only explanation offered was that the employee was "new." Accessibility accommodations are not optional conveniences--they are necessities for many travelers. After this experience, I no longer feel confident that Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn takes the needs of guests with disabilities seriously. Unfortunately, after years of loyalty to the Best Western brand, I will be looking elsewhere for future stays.

Having previously stayed at The Bavarian Inn just up the road, we reached out to discover that they, among others, were closed. The owners mentioned their new property in town, EO Bungalows, and how they were offering enhanced cleaning and contactless check-in/out. This combination was perfect for us and we booked one night. This location features four private units with ensuite bathrooms and a common courtyard. Parking is curbside and you're just one block off the main strip, making the location very walkable. The units themselves are wonderful. Nicely furnished with very comfortable beds; a kitchette with everything you need including a toaster; a bathroom with an incredible steam shower, dimmable lighting in all areas and artwork that creates a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere. We drive an electric car and found convenient free charging available at the local Chamber of Commerce just two blocks away. We had dinner on The Custer Wolf's patio and enjoyed our first restaurant meal in months. Thanks EO Bungalows! We'll be back... looking forward to the next Tesla rally, whenever that is.

There were a few issues...but they were manageable since I wasn't staying in the room alone. Trouble 1) When showering, you can't reach the shower controls while sitting on the shower bench. I keep seeing this in hotels, I'm not sure what they expect you to do. Most people who need a shower bench can't stand up and get the controls! Trouble 2) Tiny little closet rod, difficult to get to behind the table & chairs (and the bathroom door). It's low, to make it an accessible height, but so difficult to reach that it was almost not worth even trying! Trouble 3) Table and chairs in the room would be nice if we were cooking in our room & such, but since we weren't they were really just in the way. The table was too small to pull under when in a wheelchair anyway. Their location meant that I couldn't reach the kitchenette area anyway. If I'd been staying alone I'm not sure how I would have handled the shower, and I would have requested that staff remove the table & chairs. Just thought I'd warn other wheelchair users so they can make an informed decision. The bed was adequately comfortable, water pressure was great, the room a little noisy due to the proximity of the ice-room & the parking lot. Overall - could have been better, but could have been much worse - at least i was able to get in and out! :)
