The only place in KC I have found for authentic Chicago food. The Italian beef is my go to even if they make it like they are from the North side of Chicago, I prefer the South side way with no cheese, sport peppers instead of giardiniera, and roasted red peppers. Their Chicago dogs are perfect and their other brats and dogs are great too. Most importantly, they use the right brands of bread and meat that I just can;t find out here in KC...do they get them shipped from Chicago? I miss being able to buy Vienna Beef hot dogs in the grocery store. I have not tried the pizza. The place has the usual Chicago memorabilia stuff on the walls; Michael Jordan, Cubs, Blackhawks, etc. read more

I called ahead and ordered some Italian beef sandwiches for carry out. I was told that my order would be ready in about 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes after placing my order and didn't have any issues picking it up and going in my merry way. The food was still pretty hot, fresh, and the sandwiches were huge! We stopped in for an early dinner. As others have noted they close at 7:00 and won't do any dine-in orders placed after 6:30, so keep that in mind. It's been several years since we had been there (recently moved back to town), and the pizza remains an excellent rendition of Chicago-style thin crust. Slightly sweet sauce, spicy sausage and nothing but mozzarella cheese. Burned a little just like I like it. Will be back soon for a polish or Italian beef, which looked great. No frills atmosphere. As a Chicago area native I appreciate the decor. Just good food. We won't be strangers. read more

Just moved to Lenexa and was excited to try this place with all of the reviews being positive. Got there at 6:30 pm on a Friday. Denied serving us as they stop serving in their restaurant a half hour before they close.. AT 7 PM. WTF? We left and came back on Saturday for lunch. We both ordered the chili cheese dogs. Nothing special at all.. Kind of skeptic of all the positive reviews.. The inside is really dumpy and I did not feel comfortable eating lunch. Isn't that weird? Definitely do not recommend the pizza man. How do you stop serving before you close? And the dogs are bleh. read more

I drive right past Minsky's pizza for the best thin crust pizza in south Kansas city, Pizza Man. The atmosphere is seriously lacking, but the pizza is so good, I just get it to go. If you think Stonewall/Grinder's pizza is good, go next door and treat yourself to Pizza Man. You won't regret it. read more

The pizza here is equivalent to a Tombstone from your supermarket. Fortunately they serve Vienna Dogs and Italian Beefs. Their Beefs aren't the best quality and they're served dry with the au jus on the side. Not exactly what you'd get if you were in the City but it's still I nice taste of home being west of the Mississippi. The interior is cozy and well decorated with proper Chicago sports memorabilia. read more

Many years ago I ate at the Pizza Man before it moved to this location. I sort of forgot about it until tonight. The same quality of food moved right along with the location. Thank goodness. I tried the steak sandwich with the cheese and peppers and it was outstanding. Spicy but not insanely. Bread toasted just right. The peppers added the right amount of heat to an already delicious sandwich. The jus was a bonus flavor. With the construction blocking Pflumm this place is not getting a lot of traffic. I hope those in the area will remember this great little place and stop in for great food while supporting a locally-owned business. You'll be glad you did. read more

Meh. It's everything good and bad about a hole in the wall pizza/sandwhich shop. Totally non-chain, friendly staff/owners, Chicago "dive bar" sort of feel inside, etc. We just found their thin-crust pizza very "forgettable," not that flavorful, and quite pricey for what you actually get. There are definitely better pizza options in that part of town, but if Thin Crust is your deal and you live in the neighborhood it's at least worth a try. read more

In a hurry needed a quick lunch. I have driven by this place many times the yelp reviews looked great. Service was quick in and out in about three minutes for a slice of pizza got the deep dish. This has to be the most awful pizza I have ever eaten the crust was a tasteless inch and a half of bread, sauce was awful, and wasnt sure if there was cheese or raw bread under the sauce and pepperoni. To top it off one slice cost me just short of five dollars. The place was in need of a good cleaning seemed like they needed some remodeling and better up keep. Sorry but wont be back . read more

Damn good. The pizza was thin crust and when it was hot, it was crispy with gooey cheese. We had leftovers and the next day it wasn't as good but that's with most pizza. If you eat it while it's hot, you'll enjoy it. The Italian beef was good too. No complaints. read more

This is my favorite lunch spot in Johnson county. The food is tremendous, the staff friendly, and a neat Chicago based atmosphere tops it off. This place is solid. I like that you can get pizza by the slice. There aren't that many places in town where you can do that. The Italian beef sandwich is also really really good. I'm not a Chicago sports fan but if you are you'll appreciate all the sports pictures and memorabilia on the walls. My pops toke me here last weekend, and said it was one of his favorite places to go "never taken me here before!". I had one of their hot dogs, some typed of brat, pretty juicy. My father had their pizza, which i had a place, pretty tasteful. Some type of seasoning on it, thin crust. The atmosphere was so so, and the service as well.. Yeesh. I tried this restaurant because I had a coupon. First red flag: it was a Friday night and the place closed at 7. Second red flag: we called at 6:10 and the phone was busy indefinitely. So we decided to walk in since it was on the way home and clearly enough time to order. At 6:20 we arrived and probably the most miserable employee greeted us, it was actually laughable how she obviously did not want us there. There were signs posted that also showed they wanted to leave at 7:00 p.m. And not a second later. "No dine in customers after 6:30", so inviting. She stated this again, and also stated that our take out order is going to take 25 min, okay fine, we would have called in earlier but you clearly took the phone off the hook. Okay maybe she had a bad day, I'd almost excuse her if she was a 16 year old girl wanting to get to her Friday night activities, but this was a grown woman. Not a great start Mr. Pizza Man.... We get our order home, the Italian Beef Sandwich is actually pretty good. We also tried the Deluxe pizza, it was not great. And also confused why this place is called The Pizza Man, they pretty much only rave about their hotdogs and sandwiches. We may try this place again to get one of those sandwiches and make sure we allow ample time, since we wouldn't want to frustrate the face of your business. I make a part of my opinion based around customer service for many establishments. And this one failed miserably. read more

I like to go to Pizza Man once a week for lunch. The Philly is great, but even better on the days when they put it on a thick pizza crust. That can't be beat! You can get your Sammy or slice to go too, if you need to get back to the office.
