Pizza Colore has a great location right on the Pearl Street Mall. But don't base your impressions on the pizza shop's appearance - it's not much to look at and the decor is pretty spartan. The pizza, however, is pretty decent and they have a nice variety of pizzas - which are typically sold by the slice but are also available as a full pie. My wife and I split 3 slices so we got to try a variety. The pesto pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and articoke hearts was very good. My wife's favorite was a pizza with a ranch dressing based sauce, ham and pineapples. Our 3rd slice had a thicker style crust and was heavy on the veggies - also excellent. Maybe not the best pizza in the world - but certainly pretty good pizza in an excellent location. Worth stopping in. read more

FOOD This a great place to get food fast and fresh. They have a huge selection of toppings, three different types of base pizza sauce (red, white and pesto) and two types of crust (really thick or regular). The great thing about this place is that they carry other food that you might love: chocolate mousse (not always available), carrot cake, fresh salads and cannoli's. SERVICE The staff is quick and efficient and usually very polite. But they do get aggressive with people who are getting rowdy, are drunk, who decide they want to shoot up in the bathroom or who are repeat offenders and just come in to bother them. (I totally support their efforts in keeping their family restaurant free of these people.) AESTHETICS I have to be honest and say the interior isn't the prettiest. But if you do visit this place keep in mind that there is a bunch of seating in the back; people don't usually realize this and won't go in in big groups b/c it looks small. read more

Pizza Calore Pizza Calore...what an enigma. I've had so many thoughts about this place over the last 3 years working around the corner. For me, the standard for casual (non-Neapolitan) pizza is Brooklyn Pizza hands down. Def give that a try if you have not already. In this review I will attempt to convince you that Pizza Calore is a-OK, but just does not match up to other places in town. Let's start with the facade, Pizza Calore is a sort of hole-in-the-wall divey looking place, as all pizza slice places should be. Check. Stepping inside you get to choose the slice that you want and they heat it up for you in an oven. So far so good. Now let's get to the pizza. The pizza is, I believe, is in the Chicago tradition. There are a few deep dish options as well that are mostly bread and thus quite forgettable, but the regular slices are fine. The main takeaway here is that these slices are VERY OILY. Some people love it some hate it. They have made up their own combos, one with potatoes (tater special), ground beef (pergamo?), a pineapple one (angry Hawaiian), a bbq one (BBQ), etc. While I don't care for the tater special, the other slices are just fine. The crust is big and soft, very oily as well. Not the best crust I've had, it certainly leaves something to be desired. As a pizza connoisseur, I would understand if someone just threw it out. I just want to re-emphasize that with this pizza you are going to get POOLING OIL on top of your pizza. This is not abnormal for pizza, but Calore really embraces this trait. Usage of napkins to soak up the oil is advised. Now let's talk about the people. Generally the people are great. The owner is super cool, there is a lady that works evenings who is awesome, but occasionally they do forget orders or burn the pizza. It's also worth mentioning that there is a man that works days who I never particularly cared for, sort of had that "resting disappointed father face". We joked that he "made us feel bad for ordering pizza". You try to joke with him, no dice. Now I understand that three stars may seem like a bad review, but I also want to highlight some of the lesser-known boons that this place provides. 1) the salads are f**king bomb! Get one. 2) they make calzones which are AMAZING, 3) if you are hungry get the meatball sub, it will not disappoint. I want to mention that all three of these are completely unrelated to pizza. Let's talk expectations here. Now if you are drunk from a late night on pearl, and stumble across Pizza Calore, please go in! It's the only pizza place nearby open late. It's perfect for drunken second dinner when you are not working with your full mental capacity. All in all, while working nearby I found myself going to pizza calore 2ish times a week because it was the only pizza place nearby. While I hated it at first, I slowly grew to appreciate it, though never loved it. I will also say that some folks love the place. If you have the choice, I suggest try Brooklyn Pizza, if you are stuck on Pearl it's just fine. read more

Service was excellent. Prices and food about par in general, which is to say they were better than they could get away with considering the location. Had a medium pepperoni pizza with no cheese (allergies in my party) and small garlic bread. Pizza was roughly Neapolitan-style: thin crust, lighter slightly watery sauce. Pepperoni was average. Overall a good, light eating pie, which I prefer. Garlic bread was thoughtfully-prepared, had a little kick to the specially-prepared spices (was informed of a small amount of Parmesan in the regular topping.) Was impressed by their exceptionally understanding, no-drama accommodation to dairy allergies. That will earn a solid star anytime. So why not 5 stars? Well, frankly, this place could use a once over by someone with an eye for details and moderate budget to polish the rough edges. Nothing particularly offensive (although the restroom definitely was not wheelchair-friendly.) Meaning, like countless other businesses, there's a handful of seemingly small details that add up to an impression that things are managed with a "if it's not broke, don't fix it" approach. I can grasp the mindset, but it does betray a potential risk that the business could slip without diligence, which would certainly be a shame in this case. Because there's really nothing else to eat in Boulder at 1:30am. Workers here have a high level of patience and tolerance for people who hungry and all kinds of at their worst. In fact, I might go so far as to say they have a magic sense about how to quell the sloppiness of their late night clientele...or is it just that they fill them with cheap pizza and then life is good and the world is once again in order? Sometimes the pizza is the best. Sometimes it is not the best. I give it two stars only because it is the only spot to get a slice on Pearl St, the only place to eat for under $5, and it as saved my tummy on many a drunken eve (they are open late). But yesterday when I ordered a slice, the guy took it out of the oven and SNEEZED before handing it to me! He made no attempt to cover it, hide it, or otherwise remedy the situation. I still like the Colore and stop in for a slice when I'm around, however: Their sundried tomatoes consistently taste like cranberries and that can really throw off a savory slice. Also, their whole pies are a world of difference away from their slices. I never knew this before because I had only ordered slices. But the other day a friend of mine ordered an entire pesto pie and... WOW. Fantastic. That should be a good thing, right? Well... I never WANT a whole pie. Nothing fancy, but only place ON Pearl St. that offers Za by the slice. The staff are typical stoner funky freaks, but friendly and part of why you are on Pearl St to start with. Went with friends and their kids who are pretty picky eaters. Kids loved the standard cheese slice and each asked for a second! Had a Slice of Pesto Pizza and a Slice of White Pizza with Pineapples and Pepperoni. Its a Combo Deal with a Soda for 7.29 and the slices are a nice size. They also have a Combo Deal with a Salad if you want to eat healthy for part of your meal. They have a sign up that they charge for refills but I didn't see anyone checking. The Pizza is tasty, a lil greasy but its a pizza its supposed to be greasy. The Crust is delicious. They serve cannolis and nice sized chocolate chip cookies. The seating is in the back which is spacious and they have a bar by the front window with a few stools. They are friendly as well when serving up your Pie. If the weather is right you can sit outside as well. read more

Cheap, baked to order, and it tasted great. I'm all about cheap food that tastes good AND is made fresh considering how rare it is to have that happen! The broccoli and the artichokes are very fresh and taste wonderful on the pizzas. I'm not a crust fan so I can't vouch for that, but I really enjoyed how thin and crispy the slices were as well as the fact they don't drench it in sauce. We got a Groupon coupon when coming through a Denver , traveling with kids , pizza is always easy. The staff were so friendly and attentive , super helpful with our order since it was our first time in there . The kids , as always got the cheese , they loved it . Me and the huz got the pesto with veggie one, I'm kinda drooling typing this, it was SO good. The location is great , there is seating indoors but we opted for outdoors so we could do some people watching and see the street entertainment, plus there are gorgeous flowers everywhere .
