To many, Pizza Classica is known for their pizza. Most tend to overlook their appetizers, salads, paninis, and pastas. However, I was feeling a bit ambitious and decided to sit down and try one of their pastas. I was put at ease when I noticed how many locals and families came here to eat dinner, which signified it was a popular place for both pizza and entrees alike. The decor is very Italian-like with its marble counter tops, dark wood-lacquered furniture, tiled walls and floors, and wrought-iron fixtures. There is a small partitioned-off area for diners seeking table service and a few tables adjacent to the dining area, which I will refer to as the commons area, for those looking to order a slice and sit down to eat. When it gets busy during weekends, they also use most, if not all of the commons area as well for table service, so plan accordingly.
Included with each meal, is a side of complimentary bread consisting of your typical Italian bread, and yummy garlic bread. The garlic bread is sort of like a focaccia, topped with all that salty garlic goodness.
The Chicken Saltimbocca ($14.95) was prepared in traditional fashion, consisting of chicken breast sauteed in a marsala brown sauce, then topped with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella over fresh spinach. The tender chicken combined with the saltiness of the prosciutto and fairly fresh mozzarella made for a delightful dish. What dryness that existed in the chicken was easily eradicated with the tasty marsala sauce.
Additionally, all entrees are served with your choice of pasta, house salad, or vegetable of the day. Your pasta comes with choice of tomato sauce, marinara sauce, garlic & oil. I opted for spaghetti with marinara sauce, which I found very good. The spaghetti was prepared al dente, and the marinara sauce had a sweet profile, making it extra delicious.
The Margheritta Pizza ($9.95), a 12" roud thin crust topped with fresh mozzarella, plum tomato sauce, olive oil and basil was also very good. When it comes to pizza, less is better, and the Margherita Pizza definitely lives up to it. I could definitely find myself ordering this again.
Table service was something sort of lacking. Our waitress was a bit rude, almost aloof at times. She did come by to check up on us, but with an uncaring attitude. During our meal, I had also asked her for bread. Since she seemed to disregard my request, I also asked two of the busboys who served our food and cleaned our dishes, and both also disregarded my request. Three requests for bread were all overlooked. At some point, she finally had the nerve to bring the check without ever refilling our glasses of water and getting our bread, which I was a bit frustrated at this point. But to give her some credit, she did at least box the rest of our leftover pasta and pizza, but definitely did not make up for her total lack of service.
In all, Pizza Classica serves some delicious pastas and pizzas. Prices are fair and portions are decent. I would save the heartache of dining here as table service was beyond disappointing, and I would opt for takeout.
