I finally made it over to Pizza 51 South, and honestly, the building itself is the coolest part of the experience. It's got that great open seating, it's clean, and the staff is genuinely friendly. Speaking of the staff, I have to give a massive shoutout to the girl at the counter for her "Public Service Announcement." When I went to order, she gave me the lowdown: do not order anything from the tap. I appreciate that kind of radical honesty In this world of corporate greed. The menu claims they have bottled beer, but in reality, if it isn't on tap, it's in a can. I ended up with a Blue Moon in a can--a first for me--but hey, it did the job. As for the main event: I went for a 5-topping customized slice. I won't bore you with my specific architecture, but let's talk logistics. These slices are massive and have that classic New York-style "flop," which I usually love. Unfortunately, the execution was a bit of a letdown. The crust was on the dry side and the overall flavor was just... missing. It felt like a giant canvas with a splotch of paint. At the end of the day, I dropped $20 for a single slice and a can of beer. I can go to Sam's Club and get two slices and a drink for less than the tax on this meal--and actually taste the sauce--it's hard to justify the return trip. This was a perfectly-loaded pizza. Very cheesy - but not overwhelming - with an expertly-cooked crust. The single slices are absolutely gigantic. My wife ordered the bar-b-que chicken slice and loved it. The kids claim they've never had better! Great happy hour menu. We will be back (a lot)! read more

The kids and I popped into the new Olathe location of Pizza 51 after a half day at school, and had a wonderful experience! Sitting right along the road on Kansas Avenue, it's easy to find! There's parking out front, and along the road as well. The building is really attractive, and has great indoor and outdoor dining options! Due to the unseasonably gorgeous weather for late August, we decided to pull up to a table on the patio! At the advice of the employee working the counter, we ordered a medium (18") "Cowtown Lovers" pizza to split between the three of us. We were a little worried it wouldn't be enough, but we all had two slices and were stuffed, leaving two slices for leftovers! The pizza came out super fresh and hot after no more than 20 minutes, which gave us time to enjoy the lovely weather and a couple passing trains (I swear, this set of tracks HAS to be the busiest this side of the Mississippi! ...all who traverse downtown Olathe know what I'm talkin' about!). Overall, the pizza was great, but what all of us kept raving about was the PERFECTION of the crust! They strike a perfect, PERFECT balance on the crispiness-of-bite, but soft-to-chew approach! We scarfed our pizza, nabbed a to-go box for those two orphaned slices, and were on our way! But, it won't be long before we head back for more pie at Pizza 51! This new location served up a tasty, large, pizza slice during my opening week dine-in lunch. My 12" x 9" custom five topping slice ($7.99) was brought to my table 14 minutes after I ordered at the counter. The slice was perfectly cooked with a thin, crunchy crust, plenty of toppings and fair amounts of cheese and sauce. I found the service to be mixed, with glum, inefficient, must repeat everything service at the counter but with cheerful table service and a satisfaction check from a manager. The interior offered an open kitchen, a garage theme, celebrity-themed table markers, two dining areas, seven TVs, 80s background music, plenty of natural light and one rollup garage door. My family and I moseyed on over finally to try Pizza 51 tonight! While I admit I'm a little biased as I'm not the biggest pizza fan, I can truthfully say that Pizza 51 completely surpassed my expectations in the best way possible. We got the breadsticks with garlic & mozzarella, the Cowtown pizza, and the toasted ravioli. Make sure if you come here to bring an appetite! The slices were huge! The building is also quite a delight. Everything is well decorated and clean. While we didn't interact much with the service members since you order as soon as you walk in, everyone seemed quite nice. 10/10, my family and I will be back again! read more

I've been excited about this place since I first heard about it. It strangely huge inside and can accommodate large groups. Great patio with tvs outside. Pizza tastes about like that New York style. First time at Pizza 51. We sat on patio and trouble enjoyed our Saturday afternoon. Orders a few pizzas bc we knew we wanted to take some home. Brought our puppy dog and he got fresh water bowl from our waitress. The cow town and the chicken pizza were amazing. The crust was so good. We took a pepperoni home and our daughter loved it. We will be back for sure. Keep up the good work. It is tough starting out and I saw some reviews were they were not so great. It takes time to get things down to an art form. We are quick to judge. Pizza 51 South - Olathe: Where the pizza shines but the bar... needs a tutor. I'll start with the good: the pizza really is great. The sandwiches taste good too--though let's be honest, no real Italian is serving them with a bag of chips on the side like it's a middle school lunchbox. Portions? More "snack" than "mangia." Now the bad: the bar staff could use a mandatory crash course in... well... bartending. I ordered a Tanqueray & Tonic. The bartender asked me after serving it if the rail gin was "okay." Then casually dropped, "We don't have tonic--club soda good?" Um, no. If I wanted rail gin and soda, I would've ordered that. Asking me afterward is like a mechanic saying, "We swapped your engine with a lawnmower motor, that cool?" Also--how does a bar run out of tonic water during Old Settlers Weekend, the busiest weekend in town? That's like running out of buns on the 4th of July. Truly baffling. The place should've been packed (it's the only restaurant downtown), but instead it felt like everyone else already knew the secret. My prediction: when Austin's opens, this place better shape up... or it's lights out. Such a shame--because again, the pizza? Worth it. But the bar? I wanted to try Pizza 51 and I love supporting local businesses. My co workers all had mixed reviews. They said it wasn't bad but not best either. I went for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. I attempted to order online ahead of time . They were not accepting online orders at that time as they were not set up for that yet in their Olathe location. We ordered two slices of pizza. Their slices are large. Definitely one slice is more than enough. It is weird how they slice it but the taste is good. I saw someone ordering their largest pizza it was massive. We picked up our pizza slices and took it to go. There was unfortunately because of how hot it's been so many flies around. It's definitely this heat that is attracting the flies. I wish the onions on the highway special were more cooked. Presentation was ok . I wish this business much success. read more

Today was another excellent day at Pizza 51. My daughter and I share a slice of cheese pizza and a chicken Caesar salad and still had leftovers. The crust on the pizza is just so tasty and the salad was perfect. The service today was excellent! We were checked on frequently and Maureen (sp) at the front was warm and friendly. We have not eaten in house, but have ordered online for delivery, and have picked up. The slices are awesome! Great price point. Some of the best pizza I have had. My only suggestion is that if you are about the cheese, order extra cheese. Very little cheese on this pizza. Gotta say though, it's still freaking delicious. read more

Great potential here. We loved the aesthetic and overall vibe; salads were especially impressive. Unfortunately, the pizza left much to be desired. A custom slice for $8.50 is steep, especially when the toppings don't deliver. I ordered double roasted garlic and couldn't taste any. Patio is a lovely addition, but flies are a major issue. They would be well served to add those fly fans for tables I've seen elsewhere. Also left with multiple bug bites, which is anything but ideal. Fall weather can't come soon enough! read more

I have been to this restaurant twice and honestly, I was expecting the pizza to be much better. They don't use very much tomato sauce, and it's bland. The Pastrami Ruben sandwich is pretty good, even though it was cold and over priced. I'm guessing this is more of a bar, where people don't really care about the food quality. read more

I had super high hopes for Pizza 51. I used to live in Brookside and would frequent the one on Oak and the one in Mission before it became an ice cream store. Those locations had great pizza and service. Sadly - not in Olathe. I told my wife we needed to go there. We ate a lot of slice pizza when we were dating and its a nice memory. They were busy when we went but that excuse only goes so far. We waited 45 mins for two slices of pizza and a salad. They could not deliver the salad early for some reason. When the slices came, they were not at all hot suggesting they had been sitting for a while. Also - one of the pieces of pizza was not one we ordered. FINALLY I got ahold of the waitress who said she would check the order ticket and come back. She actually told us that we should just eat the pizza delivered because it would take a long time to remake a new slice (not entire pizza...just a slice). Well - she did not make checking the ticket a priority. I had to track her down again and she confirmed that the ticket was different than the slice delivered and started walking away. I asked her what she would do about this. We did not order the pizza and the wrong slice was not eaten. She then PROMISED me she would check my order the next time I came in and she was my waitress. Seriously - what kind of response is that. Wow...we were pissed. We got up to leave. I said nothing but a genuinely nice lady behind the counter thanked me for coming in and asked if we enjoyed the pizza. I told her the story and she was so upset. She asked if it would be ok if I talked to one of the managers because they would want to know. I said sure and she then told me no managers were in the restaurant. She then grabbed a piece of paper and I assumed she was going to ask my name and number so a manager could call me. Nope. She wrote down the name of the managers and gave me a number to call the next day. To summarize - waited a long time for the wrong order that was delivered cold. I had to perform self service through the waitress that did not provide service and I had to call the manager so they could hear something they would want to know. And I had to pay for this privilege. I never asked for them to comp the meal or even the slice. But I did pay for a slice of pizza that I did not order and was delivered cold with a bad experience. At least they have free parking. They earned one star that night. The second star was because I know Pizza 51 can be good if they try. read more

We have ordered twice now and have gone between 3 stars and 4 just because of the customer service experience- or should I say lack of - They have a door on the north side to enter and then a spot right at the counter "for pick up" - both times I have entered and been completely ignored by the young man running the register. In both cases if it hadn't been for someone else coming in behind to check on me - I am not sure how long it would have taken to be acknowledged- this should be an easy front of house fix if anyone would care to address it I get those in line should be accommodated but why have a separate spot to pick up to go orders if you are not going to respond to those customers in a timely manner read more

The parm they have on the table shakers is rancid when I went on 9/5. The pizza was whatever. The service was not great. I went for lunch on a Friday. Ordered a cheese pizza. Where to start...do NOT order the toasted ravioli. They were barely warm and looked like they had been microwaved definitely not "toasted", they were whiter than my legs in january. The garlic on the breadsticks tasted sweet and had a funny aftertaste. We got a sausage pizza which had a decent amont of meat but they are very skimpy with the cheese. We were hoping to have a new go to local pizza place but unfortunately the quality of the pizza itself is sub par. It isn't something that will be completely fixable with more training/experience. Things that could be fixed: - The cook on the crust was crispy on the outside (the only pizza positive) but undercooked inside. - The ratio of cheese to everything else is just way off. It is a goopy mess. - The crust wasn't consistent in its thickness at all. It was super thin in the middle but too thick for a couple of inches near the edge. Things that can't be fixed by training/experience: -Ingredient quality. The mushrooms were canned, the sausage had zero flavor. There was a ton of cheese but it wasn't very good. The sauce was completely lost and lacking in flavor. The ambiance looks cool but the tables miss the mark. If you pull your chair in the supports will be hitting your legs. The Sevice was good. In particular the employee behind the counter was helpful in explaining everything for people trying it for the first time. I would recommend going someplace else. read more

We got 2 18" pies tonight. Had high hopes but what we got was bland and dare I say flavorless. The sauce is just a tomato flavor with no spices I could tell. The toppings on the pepperoni was about 2-3 slices on each piece. The Highway had 90% veggies & I think i got a tiny sausage flake. So it's really a veggie special. For the price, $70+, it's a big No for me ever again. they could double the toppings and it might be as much as on a Papa John's or Dominoes pizza. All 3 of us said the Dominoes would have been better. Nobody liked it. This place is as disappointing as Sarpinos. if you don't have taste buds & want to be over charged for half the quality of normal pizza, this place is for you. If I would compare, it would be similar to DiGiorno bake at home. Equally flavorless. Floor plan is cheap. They make you order in the door & then pay while asking for a tip for pick up. Seriously? Maybe if you drive it to my house or provide service inside. But then how do you determine your tip, before any service has been done. That's a scam tactic. I want to love this place, I really do. The salads are great and I love their house vinaigrette. But we have given them three chances now and all three times they have made our pizza wrong. The cooks can't seem to understand ordering meat on only half a pizza. We even changed the type of pizza we got this time to make it easier for them and it was still wrong. The food was tremendously disappointing. They are the first new restaurant in a location that is supposed to be redeveloping and the pizza taste like...well nothing. The crust is unremarkable and probably frozen at some point. The sauce has no flavor. The cheese seemed cheap and plastic like. It's a shame, I really wanted to like the place. But I honestly kind of hope it gets replaced by somewhere that takes more care about the quality of their food. read more

At Pizza51 Olathe, your pizza might cross state lines before your concerns cross the front counter. We were so excited to try the new Olathe location after a great in-person visit the week before. Ordered online via their Instagram link -- like a good millennial doing her part. Order placed. 30-minute wait. Perfect. My husband arrives to pick it up. Gives his name. The woman at the front disappears and returns from the kitchen to proclaim: "It's still cooking." Sure, we're patient people. Fifteen more minutes? No big deal. Twenty minutes later (now pushing a full hour), he tries to pay, hoping to speed things along. Only then does she type in the order number -- dramatic pause -- "Oh... that pizza's in Kansas City." No apology. No help. Just the smirk of someone who's watched a lot of people get this wrong and has chosen passive-aggressive apathy over, say, basic humanity. So I call the KC location. They can't help because the manager is at Olathe. I call Olathe -- the manager is "working the line," apparently running a full Gordon Ramsay production back there, and "will call you in 30 minutes." Bold of them to assume I still believed in time. Spoiler: He does not call. My 3-year-old, who this pizza was for, eats a sad, last-minute home dinner and goes to bed -- pizza-less and confused. I call again. Still "working the line." No apology. Just vague assurances that he's been "briefed" on my situation -- like it's a hostage negotiation. Hours later, just before closing, I finally get him on the phone. I go in politely, hoping for some empathy or maybe a human emotion. Instead, I get the world's most defensive chef, who immediately lets me know that 1) he's been working the line, 2) he's heard all about my "situation," and 3) has zero interest in hearing my side. I calmly explain what happened: how they took my husband's name and told him it was cooking -- when it wasn't even in the building -- and how the woman at the front desk was smug and unhelpful. His response? Oh, well, they just tell everyone that. Because they're understaffed and it "buys time." You know, the hallmark of great customer service -- deceiving every guest equally. When I suggested maybe that warranted some accountability, maybe an apology or a gesture of goodwill? I was offered a refund for "market value of the ingredients used." $17.83 refunded on a $29.72 pizza. Because what is customer service, really, if not a math problem about flour? I genuinely wanted to like this place. The pizza? Actually good. But the customer experience? A mix of confusion, deflection, and performative busyness -- all wrapped in a takeout box I never got. If you love delicious pizza with a side of gaslighting and disdain, Pizza51 Olathe is your spot.
