This is the type of place with a large menu of things that sound great, but I've been fixed in this routine of getting Baba ghanoush and Falafel on every visit. For all my attention, the rest of the choices might as well represent planets i'll never visit. The oasis that is Pita Pan even has a juice bar I would maybe order from if I liked drinking with my meal. Instead I order one of the two aforementioned selections every time, sit on the high stool and proceed to get distracted from a read by the intricate gold and purple concentrated art and relics hanging on the wall. As a side note, there is a Japanese restaurant next door that has basketball games playing in the window. I've always prefered a surprise eating out, but here I stick to standards. Their Falafel and Baba ghanoush are unique amongst the city. The balls of falafel are fried in a way that they are much crispier on the outside than most falafel joints, yet the inside is as soft as the best can have. I get the impression they use an oil that is not the same as every other restaurant in the country. The only thing keeping this place from a 5 is the Moaz falafel I had once. For a corporate enterprise to make a falafel as good as Moaz makes me think that independents like Pita Pan still have something better to work towards. read more

For food This place is a 3 star. Food is ok and good for a quick lunch during the week. The place itself isn't great at all and looks pretty dirty. All of which I don't care about but my experience there tonight just trying to ORDER our dinner was ridiculous. The guy was so rude, barely understood what I was saying (English was his second language) and that doesn't bother me at all. But IF YOU don't understand something you don't have to be a rude dick about it and get visibly frustrated in the confusion. The fact that I couldn't understand him either was frustrating but I maintained my manners throughout. I ended up walking out and won't be back. Such a shame when something as simple as manners costs a business patronage. read more

I was really disappointed with this place. The lamb shwarma was crazy salty, but i would have given them 3 stars. bumped then down to two b/c the service was horrendous, they advertise it as being $6, and when I gave them a $10, they only gave me $3.50, claiming that there was a "tax". I have to say, I was pretty let down by this. It was the epitome of 'meh'. For $4 I feel like a jerk complaining, but still... the falafel sandwich was smaller than average and something in it tasted burnt. I looked, and nothing seemed to actually be, but there was definitely a charred taste. The hot sauce wasn't actually spicy, and didn't have much flavor either. AND it didn't come in a pita. Excuse me? Isn't your name PITA Pan? Weird. They were fast though, and it wasn't the worst, but definitely far from the best. read more

I just so happened to walk past this place in Park Slope because I was walking to the train station after going to a store that I buy my running gear from down the street. I was pretty famished and decided to grab a bite before catching the train so I popped into Pita Pan. It's a tiny place but full of flavor. I had a lamb shwarma in a pita with all the fixin's. I must say that the lamb was full of flavor and delicious and the spicy sauce that they put on for me (they ask if you want it...so you don't have to if you don't like spice) just made the flavors pop! It was really hearty and filling and really hit the spot. I'll definitely swing through again the next time I am in the area. read more

I wish had read some of the reviews on here and saved myself the sorrow of a lame dinner. I had a babaganoush sandwich and was disgusted by how it's served in a flour tortilla. And the dudes working there forgot about my order and had me standing around for a solid 5 minutes before they realized their mistake and made me a crappy sandwich. Blech. read more

if you're looking for a traditional falafel sandwich (e.g. in a pita) then LOOK ELSEWHERE than pita pan. the flour tortilla in which they wrapped my falafel was average. ok, i inhaled the falafel 'tube' (my word, not theirs) that i purchased for $4.90 (yep, i was famished) at the starbucks across the street. i'll definitely try mr. falafel (down the street) next time and avoid pita pan. hope this helps. read more

Love the delicious platters, sandwiches, and juices at this place. My favorite is the spicy falafel wrap and the hibiscus iced tea.

Yummy, fairly inexpensive falafel. I got the #4 veggie platter which came with some extras, but I couldn't even finish the whole dish. If you're looking for some fast, quick food in the neighborhood, this'll be your place! They've got some tables inside for dine-in. read more

This was okay. I ordered the lamb shish-kabobs online and when I arrived I still had to wait 20 minutes for my food. I felt like the meat was very over-cooked and dry. However, it was only 6 dollars and came with pita, salad and rice. I would give it another try to see if the other dishes are better. read more

I was disappointed. I stopped in to pick up lunch to add to a pot luck for myself and a few friends - I was going to bring some grape leaves, some falafel and some Babaganush, the manager quoted me $46 !! I was very shocked at the high price --so I asked him to cut the amounts of the food in half --and it still came to over $30 with half as much food - I was in a rush so I agreed and bought the food. It was very mediocre. The falafel was very greasy, the grape leaves were awful -- some kind tomato sauce in them --never tasted that before they were not classic stuffed grape leaves. The babaganush was good so 2 stars for that and the manager was polite even though he worked me over on the price. read more

I recently came in here with my gf to warm up while doing errands on a busy sunday afternoon. To our surprise this tiny whole in the wall is a true gem. We ordered the chicken schwarma sandwich platter, which came w/ salad & fries. The chicken sandwich is by far the best I have ever had. The fries were delicious & the salad was so fresh. (as if they had their own garden in the back.) We also ordered the grape leaves- which I've never liked, from anywhere. I decided to try it & it was ok. Thats say a lot about this place. And where do I start about the customer service of this establishment. They are the nicest & friendliest of people. They even gave us a sampling of the sweet potato without us even asking. Casual Mediterranean food like this isn't plentiful in the Slope, so it's so nice to find a place that works. My wife didn't enjoy her lamb schwarma, but she's hella picky about this dish, even down to the bread used. I had pretty solid falafel, and the babaganoush (so??) and hummus were really good. Stopped in for a on the go lunch, ordered a lamb gyro & my husband got the chicken gyro, the food was ah so so I've definitely had better gyros before, I mean when I think of a gyro I think of a nice thick flat bread with yummy white thick sauce (lol) -no dirty thoughts- it was kind of like a chicken wrap, There white sauce was way to watery an there hot sauce was like a of taco sauce or some kind, definitely wasn't hot my 3 y.o ate some with no problem. The lettuce was dry an the tomatoes must of been sitting for quite some time. I wouldn't go back to this spot, I felt like I was annoying the worker by asking for napkins an a fork Blah next time I'll run across to the diner an grab a better quality gyro platter. read more

What a surprising gem! We were going to Starbucks across the street but this caught my eye and I remembered it from Astoria. IT was great. The food is fresh and delish and its perfect for a vegetarian! Great hummus and falafel. Nice people too. Extremely nice. Clean too. It was empty last night at 6 PM. Unacceptable. Our experience with delivery last night has changed my mind about eating here. After 2 1/2 hours of waiting and 4 phone calls, our food finally arrived at 9:45pm. Not only were my calls not taken seriously (and rudely received) but by phonecall number 4 it was clear that they couldn't even find our order. Our food was finally promised to be sent (again) plus some free sides as a consolation. They sent no free sides as promised and the food was sub par. Not worth it. Unkind, uncaring service people. I only eat the chicken schwarma sanwich but it's consistently one of the best I've ever had. Juicy, salty, seasoned and sauced to perfection. A huge sandwich for 6 bucks. FYI, the sandwiches are served in a Mediterranean flat bread not a thick doughy pita round, which is fine. One wouldn't upstage this chicken's savory delight. Order it "spicy." read more
