I was in the area close to closing time and I decided to stop in for my first time since I was visiting this area. Only two other tables that people were eating. Most all the tables were dirty or had left over food on them. Employees seemed not even working. I asked if there were any specials or what they like they didn't have a good answer. I ordered an omelette. It came and had shredded ham on the side which I thought was very odd and had a weird taste to it. Omelette was bland and the toast had best flavor. I'm speaking on behalf of my husband since he does not have Yelp. He went here today for the first time with his coworker for lunch and he ordered the grilled chicken wrap with avocado and bacon. Pitstop doesn't normally grill chicken for this dish but they grilled it per my husband's request. 2.5 hours later he is vomiting with diarrhea. He NEVER gets sick. Something went terribly wrong with his meal. I've never seen him so pale. Be careful customers! :-( read more

Tried Pit Stop tonight for the first time based on Yelp reviews and was not at all disappointed. I expected any fried goodies to be greasy since it was a diner and cheap, to boot. We had zucchini fries and fish & chips (fries were seasoned, yum) and none of it was greasy, just more of a firm bread coat, not sit-on-your-stomach-grease. And my fish actually had fish inside, not just batter, and it was light and flaky. Portions are HUGE! My boyfriend got a Jimbo burger and dog, which were both piled high. He thought since the prices were cheaper than a fast food drive-thru that he better order the two things, but they proved to be way too much for the big guy, bringing the dog (topped w/ pastrami, btw) home. We used to go to this place quite often for our BLT's which are delicious at a mere cost of $15. Since last week 3/18/16 prices have gone up about 20%. We now pay $19. Not sure if it's new ownership but we won't be going as much anymore. read more

How have I not reviewed this place yet?!?! My luv and I go like like 4 times a week lol Why not?! It's affordable and yummy. They have a ton of things to choose from and there is something for everyone... They have healthy options too like salads and wraps... There are so many reviews that I couldn't possibly say anything new so just know that you won't be disappointed when you eat here.....and if you are/were you must give it another shot because it truly is a treasure of Oceanside's Valley. At one point in time it was very good and we dined there quite often because of the Excellent customer service , prices, quality and location but since it's under new management, the food quality is a BIG N.O. and prices are a little bit more, staffs needs training and attitude adjustment and my family won't be going there EVER. The atmosphere is great. A great place to look at all of the decorations. The eclectic mix of old and new was a fun way to spend the time waiting for your food (which was not long at all). My favorites were the phone booth and the old speakers from the drive-in theater. I caution those of you with long legs like me, be careful when you sit at the tables, some of them use painted wheels for the bases, and they stick out farther then you expect (ouch), but I still would not change them, they add to the ambiance. Another great feature - the hours. They are open at 6:30 AM and they do not close until 11 PM. We don't find many places like that here. This is a place where you walk up to the counter to place the order and get your drinks, but the food is brought out to you, and the helpful staff will make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. The food is tasty and well priced. The portions are larger than you would expect when you see their prices. A double cheeseburger for under $4.... Although I have to admit that I would be willing to pay a little more for the burgers if the patty's were a bit thicker, and not so prepared tasting. We tried the sampler basket of fries, onion rings, zucchini fries, and fried mushrooms. I would highly recommend this. It even came with a very large portion of ranch dressing for dipping. I tried the Chili burger and I have to admit that the Chili was delicious. It reminded me of Tommy Burger's chili. My husband had the 2X2 burger. Both of us had plans on trying a malt or shake after, but we were too full with the burgers and fries. We will have to save the calories for that next time. My biggest suggestion would be for them to have descriptions for the various burgers and hot dogs, as I noticed that was a hang up while ordering. Most people were asking the staff to describe each of the items, causing the line to be a bit longer than necessary in my opinion. My husband commented that it would be great if this became a place that one or more nights a week, people brought their classic cars, etc to just hang out. (Like Bob's Big Boy in Burbank.) Overall the experience was very enjoyable, and we will definitely be back. If they can keep up the service and the quality of food, I think (hope - after all Oceanside needs more places like this) they should be able to make a success of it. Good Luck! read more

I used to love this place, I've lived in Oceanside since 2011 and would come here a lot. Great food for really good prices I'm so sad to see the quality of this place go down hill, I feel like things that used to be good here aren't anymore, they used to have amazing pancakes now they are horrible. Awesome decor, friendly staff and always delicious food with great prices. I honestly feel kind of bad that the staff doesn't vetted tipped like waitresses do. I want to say a huge thank you to the staff and owners of this establishment. today was a busy Sunday and let me start with saying that the food was great. After coming home from pit stop, the young girl I treated to lunch remembered that she lost her retainer in a napkin that was thrown away during her meal. With the amount of people eating there it was unlikely that we would find it. I called pit stop and they quickly changed out the trash and I assumed that when we showed up we would need to go through the garbage as it was our mistake. The owner and his staff were so kind and happily went through everything and found her retainer in the trash within 10 minutes. So I'm Pregnant craving a good all around American cheese burger w/ bacon & fries & Based on Yelp reviews my husband & I decided to try this place out.... As soon as we walk inside the stares we got from costumers weren't so pleasant (but that's not the restaurants fault obviously) I kept telling my husband we were the only Hispanics there so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. ANYWAYS, we order our food & my husbands burger is literally so thin it looks like a kid menu burger. & the patty on both our burgers were PAPER THIN! All I was tasting was my lettuce & tomatoes! & on top of that the owner, an older man or i don't know who it was behind the counter kept staring at us while we ate!!!!! Underwhelming. On a recommendation from a friend, we are here. He had the Outlaw burger, I had a bacon cheese burger. While the decor is cute and service is fast and friendly, the food was average at best. Fries were a little stale, burger was average...needed more sauce. cute place for locals. We used to live in O'side and still come down to visit a couple times a year. Took all the grand kids (5) here and adults ( 7) and got a great family table. The prices are FANTASTIC! (I even took a menu home with me to share with friends because they wouldn't believe it if they didn't see it!) Good food. Solid burger, dogs, chili, fries, fried mushrooms, GENEROUS salads, great kids menu. I think the bill was something crazy cheap like $70.00 bucks for everyone! It's now the go to place at least once when we're here. Loved the decor and so much nicer than eating at a fast food place. It's nice that the O'side police seem to frequent the place too. I live in Oceanside and I've been coming here since the place opened. The food is good. The service is good but the cleanliness of the place is going down hill very bad. I've noticed that there is no management working the later shifts. My family and I have been there near closing and the place is a mess. They close the bathrooms and allow all the customers to stand in line in the kitchen to use the employee restroom. (Very unprofessional and unsafe). If I wanted to I could of grabbed anything; knifes, forks, uncooked food, condiments etc... I'm not saying I would of but there were no employees near the 6 of us standing in line for the employee bathroom. The place is good but a true manager needs to be there to make sure cleanliness and safety is kept until the last customer leaves. read more

Worst customer service! There is hardly anybody in the restaurant, and they still can't get it right. I called in an order and they forgot about it and yelled and the cooks to get out done. Then when paying for my order they over charged me by $10 because they got order wrong. No apologizing but attitude. I then asked for the ranch for my wrap and she said it would be extra because they already gave me one....I gave her my bag and again realized they messed up again and hadn't gave me any ranch. I will NEVER be back again. This place is a joke even if they aren't busy they have all the WRONG people working there. This placed use to be great, but no longer! I went here for lunch today but was really unimpressed. I was told salads are good and I'm vegetarian so I ordered an Avocado salad and zucchini fries. The salad was covered in thick slabs of avocado and had an overcooked and browning hard boiled egg. The blue cheese dressing was the best part, as for the fried zucchini... It was soft and soggy. It tastes so fried and oily I ate only 3.. Needless to say I didn't not like the food. The only good thing is it's cheap. And I'm not a meat eater but I have no idea if the burgers are good. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place! We just moved to the area and stopped in to give it a try. Had the Patti melt and it was cooked as patti melts should be, on rye bread, with grilled onion and melted together with cheese. Fries are good and vibe is fun! Firstly, I'd like to say that we stumbled upon this little 50's joint by accident. The environment is really cool, with tons of 50s garb on the walls, anything from old license plates to a super old car in the middle of the restaurant. Prices are VERY affordable. We had lunch there for $8.00 for two people. They have a young staff that seemed pretty friendly. Pretty big menu, lots of options. Clean and organized place- all in all a pretty sweet find! I got a spicy chicken sandwich here. It was not spicy, it was not seasoned at all in my opinion. It was a breaded breast on a bun with some lettuce and mayo. It was very bland. Cheese was extra. I will never get that sandwich again. Their prices here are good though. We ordered a trio side dish that had a lot of fries, onion rings, and fried zucchini all for around $5. A cheap appetizer compared to the sit-down restaurants. The oreo milk shake here is really yummy. We had the strawberry too, and that is delicious too. Went here with a large party and we enjoyed ourselves. Typical fast food/diner food, lots of options, good flavor and good price. The portions were generous and each group of 4-5 paid about $25-$30. Very pleased with that! No gourmet food here, just a family friendly place; the kids all absolutely loved it, and that moved them up a star in my book. Our French fries were perfect and our favorite item was the Greek chicken wrap. We tried several burgers, salads, the chili fries, chicken strips, cheeseburger, and all were well prepared and tasty. The only item that we did not enjoy was the kid's meal hot dog, it was dry and difficult to chew and our hot dog loving child could only eat about a third of it. It is crowded and popular here; if you are a local you will run into at least 2 people that you know... LOL. You order at the counter, you get a number and a server comes around to deliver your food. My family, friends and I have been going to Pit Stop Diner since it first opened a few years back. Initally there were no issues and we were happy then unfortunately ownership changed and it went downhill prices skyrocketed and food quality spiraled and the manager was a very rude man and so we stopped going and warned everyone to stay away. We came in about 2 weeks ago because I had heard ownership changed yet again and we decided to give the diner another chance. It was worth it the prices were reasonable the food was delicious and even though it was clear some of the employees were new to fast food work environment you could see them visibly trying to get the job done right. I am happy to know Pit Stop is an option again ! To my Oceanside residents...Pit Stop is coming back ! read more
