I am now a regular for lunch, often late lunch. The pizza is amazing. I feel like I'm cheating on my regular pizza joint in Gilbert. The pizza is amazing. I keep meaning to try other things, but I keep coming for a quick slice. I love this place. The ingredients are quality. I think it's organic flour as I don't react to it. The cheese is great? Excellent flavors, carefully crafted. Casual spot for very tasty Italian. --careful! kitchen closes at 8pm; --BEST tomato sauce I've had in a long time; cooked easy and not overdone, FULL of flavor; --high quality of vegetables shines through every dish; --salad mix is fresh and vibrant; --did I say FRESH? --new bright sign (see the picture) makes it easy to find.; --no fuss ambiance, come as you are, it's about the FOOD. Just a bit more about those tomatoes. Where DOES he get them? They burst with water like they do in Italy, not just chewy and pulpy like those (possibly genetically altered) waxy ones we get here. Only other comment is that the pasta is just a bit overcooked for my taste, prefer more al dente, but this could be the preparation to cater to the masses who would otherwise say it's not cooked enough. read more

so after driving by this spot a few times, I looked it up here, good reviews (expect for one guy bitching about how oily it was, and he looks like a complainer so I ignored him) I stopped in about an hour ago. I walk in and right away the girl at the counter greets me and is friendly As I am ordering, customers are walking out and Pino is asking them if everything was good and if they enjoyed it. I tried the pasta, and am updating my review to reflect that I like this place better now. I guess their salads just aren't my thing. The pasta was so much better! I ordered the penne primavera. At first I was hesitant to eat what the menu described as a "pink cream sauce" but it turned out to be delicious. The pasta came with lots of veggies that appeared to have been stir fried (maybe?). There was broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, and mushrooms. If I come back, I will definitely order that dish again! but the parking situation is still terrible. I discovered they do have a few additional spots behind their restaurant, but it's pretty scary navigating that alley back there with cars coming and going in both directions as well as people taking out the trash. you just have to go veeerrry slowly and carefully. read more

I finally decided to stop by this unassuming, petite, yet charming Italian joint for a quick lunch. What impressed me the most about their pizza was how the crust was thin, soft, and airy. I typically look for a gooooood crust and Pino's did not disappoint. I might in fact enjoy the crust more than the toppings themselves. I thought the sauce tasted fresh and light while the cheese and pepperoni maintained that greasy consistency that you see at a lot of places. Do not let the outside appearance of Pino's fool you as the interior decor makes up a lot for the limited parking space and simple exterior design. As someone who has seen it all, from Paris to New York, I very much appreciated the essence of Italian art being incorporated into the walls that surround the contemporary dining room. What I liked especially were the exposed, red bricks near the ordering counter, the fancy column structures and classy lighting that made you feel you were dining at a ritzy ristorante! Being that it was my first time here, I will definitely venture to more items on the menu such as their panini and pasta entrées. I have a feeling they will be just as pleasing as what I had today. The best part was paying under $7 [1 Topping Slice + Bag of Chips + 1 Lg Drink]. So for the simplicity in taste and quality with a touch of Italian culture, Pino's has made it into my lunch rotation. read more

Wowwww... This pizza is delicious!! Perfect crust, not thin and limp, but perfect chewy/crisp combination. You can tell they use top notch ingredients. The sauce, cheese and toppings were all fresh and tasty. My husband also got the penne primavera w sausage and are every bite (plus some pizza!) bc it was all so good. This was by far the greasiest pizza I've ever come across in my life. The grease is literally pooled onto the slices of pizza. Given that this restaurant has a four star rating I would assume the other food is pretty good, but I will not be returning to find out. Pino's has been my family's go to pizza joint for around 25 years now. The food is excellent, we grab pizza and salads once a week. Pino is an awesome guy, if you get the chance to talk to him, do. He's a friend to all, interesting guy, great member of the community and Downtown Phoenix is lucky to have had him and his restaurant for so many years. Skip the corporate chains, support your local joint... you won't be disappointed! Overall it's a good pizza. I did a pizza pickup during mid-afternoon so there were no crowds and the service was fast. The pizza has a thinner crust with very gooey cheese, which is what I like. I ordered half cheese and half with their meat combo. Tastes like quality ingredients on both sides. I also got the cannoli, which was serviceable, but not the best I've had. I'll skip it next time. Nice atmosphere, remember that there's parking in back because the front lot can fill up during lunch. One caution: I ordered a 10" half cheese, half meat. The cheese is $10, the meat is $15, and they charged me the whole $15. Not the end of the world, but $16 and change (after tax) for a 10" pizza that's half cheese is a bit steep for me. I'm always surprised when I eenter Pino's that it isn't packed. There are so many restaurants in Phoenix that people Rave about and I just don't get it. Pino's has quality, homemade food served by Pleasant people. I just love their calzones. I had the ricotta and spinach yesterday. It was so huge that I have leftovers for the next day. Very disappointed. This use to be my favorite pizza place and I drove all the way to Phoenix to get a pizza. The crust doesn't seem the same and it was way too salty. The quality just fours by seem to be there. Large pepperoni pizza was $21, overpriced for what it was and the quality. I asked if there was a discount for front line workers and the girl said "no. We aren't doing that." And turned and walked away. I won't be buying another pizza from them. Lots of other pizza places are much better, lower priced, service and staff better elsewhere. I thought this place was pretty good. I had cheese pizza and the man and kids had pepperoni. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the pizza. I think it could have been cooked just a little longer. The service was a little off to me. There were 3 people upfront when I went to get my to go order the what seemed to be manager or owner was a little harsh. She was standing over the younger girl who you could tell was either new or just nervous from this women. She was right behind her staring as she ran my card. She then told her after 2 beeps " you've got to pull the card faster" wow I would hate to work for this lady! A nice man opened the door for me that worked there on the way out but the experience in there was not a very good one. But the food was good. This place is so close to where I live, I can't believe I haven't eaten here before? There are several good places to eat along this strip of Thomas Road just west of Central that I guess Pino's Pizza Al Centro kinda disappeared in the mix. Let's get started. Parking in front along the south side of Thomas Road, the storefront is rather unassuming but with full length (tinted?) windows along the front. There is that smell and feel of Italian cooking as you enter. The decorum is tasteful yet not overwhelming, no fountains or walls painted with olive groves or gondolas, there are some paintings and rather nice cast lights that I liked. Food: they had a Lasagna Special and it took awhile coming out of the kitchen but what a lasagna it was! They brought their home baked bread appetizer with olive oil balsamic dip- really good! I ordered a glass of house red wine which was simple on its own but pared the lasagna- magnifico! Red wine and lasagna with homemade bread? It was so good!!! Had a wonderful food experience at Pino's pizza. the pizza was excellent, with lots of tomato. The house side salad with the dressing's both Ranch and balsamic was very tasty. With it we had a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and finished it off with a cannoli, the best we have had since being in Sicily. Been a fairly regular customer for the past two years. Haven't tried everything on the menu but the pizza and salads are very good. On one of my visits when I ordered a sandwich for lunch, the owner was there and chatted me up about how he makes his own roast beef for the paninis and uses very high quality prosciutto.....I'm sold on the sandwiches. They are outstanding and I've had several. Unfortunately at $12-13, while totally worth it, makes it a once a week treat for myself. The paninis are huge and could easily be split to feed two people. Staff is very rude. I was using my Apple Pay and had to train the cashier how to do it, and then she begrudgingly did it. And then mouthed under her breath that "paying with your phone is stupid" ...with that out of the way the cashier then complained that you can't use a card unless it's above $10. And then someone in the back said something rude like "Just run it so he can get the fuck out of here"... Then came the poor excuse of a pizza slice. I opened it up to realize it's greasy as ever, and toppings were splattered to the side of the box. Never return here again and I'll tell friends to never come here again. The food used to be good and then quality just started to slip down the drain. I FINALLY made it to Pinos, after living close and driving by for years. I was told it was good, just hadn't been until lunch today. I wish they had some lunchtime specials, I found the prices a bit high for midday... I do realize it's not a chain restaurant and in prime real estate, still, not even a small salad with an entree. My friend and I said we would split the penne alfredo, which was very good, but had to ask for extra silver, plate and more napkins, which a young woman picked up with her bare hands and gave to us. we had told the young man who took our order that we would split the meal, after I asked if he thought it enough for two and he said he was "sure its enough." The young woman told us before handing over the napkins, "we don't usually split meals." Later, I noticed an older woman, maybe owner, bring two plates to a nearby table and sit and eat with two people, friends??? I also saw Pino??? greet some young ladies at another table. I guess someone needs to go often enough to be a regular and thereby greeted. that's fine. I will possibly return to eat at Pinos, I would like it if they offered white clam sauce. I've eaten at Pino's more times than I can count. It's been a while because I live far and have been busy. I went in for dinner last night with a friend and feel the need to do SOMEthing to spread the word about this little gem of a place with FRESH, authentic and delicious food. I'm Italian raised by FOB parents with a huge extended (Italian) family and lots of great Italian food lovingly made and offered at every turn. Last night I felt like I was at one of those extended family/friends gatherings with food that could only be made by . . . a real Italian who puts his heart into it. I could go on about the dishes last night: Caprese salad, Brussel sprouts with Italian sausage, Sfingiolone, THE HOMEMADE BREAD, and the famous pork chop with gorgonzola cream and a side of spaghetti marinara. . . but I hope you try it for yourself. He's always making new specials from the old country that I've often never heard of and they're delicious and always always fresh. A very modest, very casual place which looks like a pizza place at lunch, if you come for dinner, it can feel like you're at a much fancier place because of the good vibe and sense of privacy you can get at the farther away from the entrance tables. If you peek in the kitchen, you'll know HOW FRICKIN CLEAN this place is kept (and I value that a lot)!! This place has been around for 20 years or more and retains it's commitment to great, fresh, authentic (Pino is from Italy, can't help it) food from PIZZA to their delicious specials and pastas and HOMEMADE BREAD. Pino's humble always underplaying how great his food is and one of the hardest working owners I've ever met. He's (almost) Always there cooking, shops for his own fresh food before they open, you'll find him cleaning near close of day etc. etc. Lucia, his wife and co-owner is sharp as a whip, fun funny and runs the place like clockwork. So, I get cravings for things every now and again. Today for lunch I had a craving for a nice Italian Chicken Parm sandwich. Having not yet tried Pino's Pizza, I went in for lunch and ordered take out. I had a beer while I waited and since the counter service was pleasant I left a $2 tip. Have you ever felt like you got ripped off? I mean, $20 for a sandwich and a beer for lunch.....wow. You'd think it was free range chicken imported from chicken heaven. But the bill wasn't the worst part. The sandwich ??? Noooooooooooooooooooo!! If I wanted boiled chicken breast, with a tablespoon of red sauce with mozzarella cheese, I would have gone to the local retirement village. This sandwich, though portioned right was AWFUL. The best thing about it was the roll. A chicken parm sandwich starts with italian bread crumb battered chicken, pan fried, with oh....let's say PARMESAN cheese, perhaps some melty provolone and a nice smothering of a FLAVORFUL red sauce. This had NONE of those components. First time, shame on you, there will be no second time despite the prior decent reviews. read more

Earlier this year (pre c19) I planned to have lunch with a friend of mine who happens to live near Pino's Pizza. She suggested we meet there for lunch. It looks uninviting from the outside, but the moment you walk in, all you can sense is Italian goodness. The aroma and sight of hot pizzas coming out of the kitchen made my mouth water. We had little bottles of Prosecco with the lunch special that day. Absolutely delicious! I mean really good favor and pasta made to perfection. You can find him in the kitchen most Friday and Saturday nights preparing meals. I've been going here for years. I used to take my grandparents every Saturday.
