Tuna salad sandwich
Angela M.

I love 24-hour diners and have been curious about this place for a while now. Dropped in on the Saturday evening of the Chinese New Year parade to get some food before watching the parade and our timing was perfect, because every seat in the house was taken except for the table that was just clearing as we walked in. It was a really busy evening for the staff, but they handled the crowd well and kept people moving in and out of the place pretty efficiently. But bear in mind that it's a pretty tiny restaurant and not ideal for groups larger than four. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich with a side of fries and also got a small bowl of their chili con carne on the side. The food came out fast, despite the sheer amount of activity going on in the kitchen, and I was pretty happy with my meal. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated -- just a good, basic tuna salad sandwich with celery, red onions, and mayo, topped with some lettuce and tomato. The fries were really good and had great flavor. The chili was just ok though. Certainly not the worst I've ever had, but was just kind of mid and forgettable. While I'd order the sandwich and fries again, I don't think I'd need to order the chili again. We were in and out pretty quickly. This is your typical no frills, straight forward diner experience, with breakfast and lunch available all day and dinner available from 5:00-9:00. There's a lot to choose from on the menu and enough to have me intrigued and wanting to return to try some other things. Recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Brioche French Toast

Great that its open 24 hours on the weekends. Got seated pretty fast but the diner was full and it took a while to order food. Some things got missed on the order. Orange juice is overly sweet. French toast was alright. Only 2 full pieces of bread. Bacon and pancakes were great. After we finished our dinner, it took a long time time to see our server to be able to get the check.

My daughter had a layover in San Francisco at the Westin St. Francis, and this was the closest spot within walking distance for breakfast--so it was an easy choice. This is exactly what you'd expect from a classic diner. The inside has that nostalgic, old-school feel, the service was quick and efficient, and the coffee was just good, no-frills diner coffee. I ordered an omelette and they followed my instructions perfectly--it was delicious and very filling. My daughter had the huevos rancheros, which tasted great but was definitely a bit messy to eat. Overall, it was a solid, satisfying breakfast that hit the spot. Nothing over the top, but exactly what we needed.

What we paid for a cold and uncomfortable breakfast.

We paid $64 for breakfast for two, and unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The food arrived cold, and the atmosphere was uncomfortable because customers waiting in line were standing halfway inside the restaurant, constantly leaving the door open. The space simply doesn't seem designed to handle the queue that way. We politely asked the waitress if we could move to another table, but she laughed at the request. We also asked if the door could be kept closed, and although she responded, it felt like the bare minimum effort was made. Overall, the service and atmosphere did not match the price we paid.

A late-night stop after the sparkle and drama of Moulin Rouge on Broadway--exactly the kind of night Pinecrest Diner was made for. I had the Pinecrest Burger, my best friend went for the patty melt, and both were pure comfort done right--simple, satisfying, and unmistakably good. The kind of food that grounds you after a long, magical evening. The diner vibe never gets old: warm lights, classic booths, and that timeless feeling that you're exactly where you're supposed to be. The staff, as always, were genuinely friendly and welcoming, even late into the night. This was my second time here, and Pinecrest Diner still doesn't disappoint. Reliable, nostalgic, and full of heart--one of those places that quietly becomes part of your city story.

Mozzarella Sticks

Stopped by Pinecrest Diner after watching Paranormal Activity at the Toni Rembe Theater. We came in around 10 PM and it was already pretty busy. They're open 24 hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, which I found was a bit bland. The mozzarella sticks were good though, just a little pricey. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're looking for late-night bites in the area.

Reuben and fries.

I have eaten at the Pinecrest Diner on numerous occasions and can't believe I have never reviewed them before. Usually this is my favorite breakfast spot near Union Square, and I've loved every breakfast I've ever had there. This was the very first dinner I've eaten there. I wasn't disappointed. My Reuben was perfect, the onion rings were surprisingly good, and the fries very good. The service was classic diner, only missing my east coast "hun". And the ambiance was pure diner - tables and counter seats, and a line that was often down the side of the building.

Pinecrest Special

Pinecrest is one of those few spots in SF which is 24/7. It's a very low frill classic diner in the heart of San Francisco. The decorations I ordered the Pinecrest Special and thought that the French Toast was executed pretty well. The scrambled eggs were a bit lackluster and there wasn't much behind the sausage and bacon. The portion size for the price is alright for San Francisco. The service was pretty efficient with not much else to comment on. Although there are better brunch spots nearby, I think Pinecrest would be a reliable option after a night out and would just be a nice place to chill with friends.

Club House

TL:DR - order the club sandwich This is a seriously delicious sandwich. Probably one of the better clubs you will find. Service - when the Curran theatre is running best to get here early cause this place will fill up Pro tip - for 7 pm shows get here by 5:30 minimum.

I love the diner atmosphere when we went inside for a dinner meal! Everyone in their booths or at the diner aisle facing the counter looked to be enjoying the company and food. It is a really great spot to enjoy food. My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast of the eggs and toast and sausage and hash browns. We also got a side of fries with our chocolate malt drinks! Perfect blend perfect combination. My boyfriend ordered corn beef hash and I tried some and it was delicious! The sausage was a bit too spicy for my stomach to digest but it had so much delicious flavor! I gave it to my boyfriend to eat for me. The ratio of the butter on the sour dough toast was evenly balanced and spread! So delicious! Definitely want to make a come back! The servers were so attentive and kind. You pay for your meal up at the front afterwards!

This diner is amazing, good ingredients cooked right. The biscuits & gravy are some of the best I ever had . Gravy is perfect and the biscuits are delicious. My omelette was cooked perfectly. Will be back for sure, the sandwich's look delicious.

I went in today for breakfast at 4pm. Gotta love a 24-hour breakfast joint. This is one of the best in SF. Huevos rancheros hit the spot. They're served with black beans, eggs of your choice, corn tortillas, avocado, sour cream, salsa. I cut it all up and blended it together for a delicious concoction. I paired mine with coffee, and the coffee comes out hot with plenty of refills. It took a while for the waitress to come back around and place the order but once I placed it, the food came out relatively quickly. Great old school diner.

I'm on the hunt for the best biscuits and gravy in town. This place was an easy check off since it's 3 blocks from home for me. Went for dinner. They have lots of variations of biscuits and gravy so I thought I'd try the moose. Omg the moose is massive and I never thought I'd say this but there was too much bacon. Don't let the picture deceive you. Dare I say this was too much bacon?? The gravy was nice and salty and the biscuits were soft. S/o for the Pinecrest special. No notes. Exactly what he was looking for. Staff was friendly and told us to pick wherever we wanted to sit. I can see why this place is always busy. Good vibes and overall decent diner.

Great diner in a world where great diners are hard to find. Corned beef hash is a winner as was the omelette my wife ordered.

OMG did they close??? Say it ain't so?

Still open, not 24 hrs at the moment.

Will Pinecrest ever go back to being open 24 hours?

Probably! Most likely had to change their hours to accommodate for the pandemic. They are well known for being open 24 hours :)

Parking is a challenge in Noe Valley so it took us a few minutes to find a spot on the street approx a block away. We were warmly greeted on arrival at the restaurant by Mariana - the charming hostess, & led to our table at the far end of the restaurant. The space is not too big so the tables are strategically arranged, making it a little narrow squeeze navigating between tables when people are seated. The decor is lovely & the place has a very pleasant ambiance. Our server Marley - a friendly young man who was very accommodating of all our requests. We were presented with complimentary warm delicious bread rolls & butter. We ordered the momos, which we had read all about on the Yelp reviews, & they certainly didn't disappoint. The sauce that accompanied the momos was so delectable, I had to request for another serving of bread to sop it all up! We also ordered the charred brussel sprouts & toasted grape salad and the gems of California beets salad - both were beautifully presented & combined a delicious blend of flavors. The food was amazing, the service attentive! We didn't want to have too big of a meal since we were heading to a show at the Herbst Theatre after dinner so we didn't order entrees or desserts. We plan to go back again soon. I would recommend trying out this neighborhood gem.

The format is a fixed daily menu with two choices per course across four courses. I went with the cured salmon salad, gulf shrimp risotto, seared branzino, and milk chocolate panna cotta. Every single dish landed. The salmon was a refined, clean opener; the risotto was rich without being heavy; the branzino was perfectly seared; and the panna cotta was a quietly elegant finish. A heads up: portions are on the smaller side, but that's by design -- this is a meal meant to be savored, not rushed. Lean into it. Service was attentive and polished from start to finish, exactly what you'd hope for at this level. If a business dinner is what it takes to discover a gem like this, book more business dinners.

The food and drinks were mostly mid for me -- the flavors leaned overly sweet. The clam pasta was the standout because it finally introduced some acidity and balance. Service was attentive throughout, and the staff handled a blackout during dinner impressively well. Ambiance was fine. The pricing initially feels reasonable at $52/person, but note there's also a 20% gratuity plus a 6% living wage surcharge, so the real total ends up closer to $66 before any extra drinks. Overall: probably a 3/5 for the food itself, closer to a 3.5 when factoring in service and value.

The produce is sourced from a tight network of local farms. But it's not as exceptional as it used to be. The San Francisco burger scene has caught up, and Nopa's burger has lost its specialness...but that doesn't mean Nopa has. Nopa opened in 2006 inside a converted bank - high ceilings, a massive bar, a communal table, just - awesome vibes. From day one it became an industry restaurant - One of the few spots in the city where you could show up late night, order off a menu that changes daily, and know the food is going to be dialed in. They specialize in wood-fired cooking, which is why their thick cut, brined pork chop with baked beans is so popular - and...it's good, but their fried chicken is quickly becoming their best seller and THAT, was PERFECT. Crispy skin, juicy underneath, seasoned beautifully. But the dish that so perfectly encapsulates what Nopa is...was this salad. Just trout, and whatever was good at the farm that week. That's Nopa. A neighborhood kitchen, cooking what's in season, for the people who live down the street, on a menu that's always changing. Twenty years in, it's still full every night.
