But what it is, is... loons on the lake, fishing, kayaks and paddle boards, bonfires at night, a quaint cottage (with air conditioning!), a game of bags on the lawn, tons of nearby biking trails, lots of swimming and sun, surprisingly good restaurants around, plenty of spaces to just sit and read or relax and talk with friends and family. This was our first time here, and we will be back next year. The staff was attentive, everything was tidy and clean. We had an absolutely great time up here!

The location near to Sleeping Bear, Leeland, Traverse City, etc all within 15-20 minutes away. 2.) The beds, comfy & one for everyone in the family ...baths too 3.) The setting nestled on a hill over looking a small lake, with walking trails & a cover bridge steps away 4.) Recreational activities right on the grounds, swimming, fire pits, grilling, water craft, life jackets, & shuffle board 5.) Recreational activities inside the lodge, TV, books, games, pool table, fuze ball & air hockey 6.) Kitchen, laundry & baths semi stocked for ease of living 7.) Large enough for big groups Just like the best campground ever ...but stepped up a notch because there is a pine paneled big woods rustic cozy cabin to stay in! If an authentic northern Michigan cabin experience is what you have in mind, look no further. We stayed in the big lodge but there are several size cabins available. Randy & Doreen are super nice, and very good at communicating before and after your stay.

Once you realize that, you'll be fine. We stayed in the hemlock cabin. This cabin is close to the road but we knew that so expected traffic noise. Upon arrival, we found a plate of yummy pastries inside for our enjoyment and air conditioning which we didn't expect. The host is very friendly and let us change our reservation date without charge because we had an emergency at home. Very grateful for that! These cabins are nice and it sort of feels like camping. You get a picnic table, a bbq, and fire pit. There's a huge yard with things for kids of all ages to enjoy right by the office. They thankfully sell firewood, which we bought because our gas station wood was wet. The bed was broken down quite a bit and didn't do my back any good, but if that sort of thing doesn't bother you, you'll be fine. Tight bathrooms and no table for your belongings, but it was sufficient. We took a lovely walk to the lake and enjoyed a break from the traffic noise. They have a nice deck with chairs to enjoy along with boats if you want to go out onto the lake to fish or whatever. There are many rules noted inside the cabin about linens, garbage, etc. We've never seen anything like that before. I hope we did everything correctly. We would recommend this place to someone but would suggest a cabin further back in the woods to avoid the road noise.

It was winter and we pretty much had the run off the place, so w didn't need to worry about disturbing anyone. They were kind enough too bring in a lazy-boy chair which is much more comfortable than couches that can serve as extra bedding. There kitchen was modern, which was somewhat of a disappointment, but we understand that the market demands some updates. They have some newer cabins on the property, but I sincerely enjoy the rustic ambiance of the cabin we chose. The staff was kind enough to keep the secret, even while my nosey wife tried to figure out what was going to happen and called them before the weekend. The hot tub is a fine size for even four people, and there is a sign up sheet to claim your time slot. More importantly, a small business could have just as easily said "There tub is closed for repairs" just knowing it's not cost effective to operate just for one couple coming in. But it was running, ready and relaxing! Kudo's for their honest business practice! It's also very close to downtown TC so antiquing and downtown browsing it's not too long of a drive away.

For the slopes, they had so many lines for all different level of skiing. They had multiple sides to the mountain and even had a bar at the top that offered alcohol, snacks, non-alcoholic drinks and even chili and hot dogs. I am at a beginner level and the green lines were still a tad more difficult, but everyone going down looks out for everyone. I was very impressed with the ski patrol as a fell quite a few times and they were there to check on me. The area itself was very clean and again, everything is easily walkable. I noticed an outdoor playground for the kiddos when it's warmer out to play on. The food options here are good. Almost everywhere was a bit crowded, but we were able to wait for our food and then take it back to the Airbnb. I was very impressed with this place on every level. A lift ticket in 2026 is only $45 versus the $105 I dropped for a Saturday. Shout-out to the ski staff for their overall hospitality and making sure folx got onto the lifts quickly and safely. It appeared to be a smooth operation. Another shout-out to the ski instructors who transformed my nieces into skilled skiers in just one lesson. A friend found this resort when we were looking for somewhere to go for a girl's weekend. We stayed…read morein a third floor penthouse. I can sum up Lebear with one word: WOW. Absolutely amazing. A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

There are all sorts of tiny details that make Lebear a special place, such as cucumber-ice water by the pool, cookies in the kitchen, and free and easy kayak use on site. The location is excellent. We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.

Unplugging was everything we didn't know we needed and this resort was the perfect place for it! The lake was our backyard and there are many toys on the lake that occupants can take advantage of! Brookside offers a lot of positives (pool! game room! lake views! cute brook, great to read beside!…read moreproximity to so many amenities by short drive!) but a few downsides that make the price point not fully align with the experience. The cold water tastes bad enough that you don't even want to make coffee with it, and the hot water in our cottage smelled of rotten eggs, and no amount of running the water made it better, so we really avoided showers. A small ant infestation in our cottage (and others reported the same) made me have to check every surface before I set my baby down. Between the pool water, the swimmers itchy lake water, the hard cabin water and the fly and ant bites, we left with myriad skin issues. There was inadequate surface for food prep in our cottage, I ended up placing in-use mixing bowls right in the sink while I cooked so I could use the tiny bit if counter space for a small cutting board. There were very few accessible outlets, so make sure to bring extension cords. A silly but annoying issue: you had to use two hands and really tug to open the utensil drawer (tough when you have a little one in arms). And while convenient to have coin operated washer and dryer access (located in the game room building), we had to run the dryer multiple times just to get a few onesies dry. That cost added up! It was a nice trip, despite the annoyances, but when the price is more than a mortgage payment, I'm left a little conflicted.

It was really…read morean excellent little getaway with many pros and only a few cons This resort specializes in golf...golf...GOLF (haha) during the summer, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have much to offer in the winter. There is an AMAZING spa (excellent sauna, hot tub, indoor pool, great massages), basketball and tennis courts, arcade, axe throwing, mini bowling, and indoor golf simulators. And if you prefer to just not leave the room, very comfy beds with couch seating at almost 400 sq feet per the most basic room (next time we stay here we will probably stay on the tower side of the resort where the rooms are even a little nicer). What we also loved here was the food. Aerie restaurant might be our new favorite restaurant in Michigan (close toss up with The Chophouse in Grand Rapids). See a separate review of mine for more particulars. There is also amazing room service, Niiji restaurant downstairs next to the lobby (great breakfast menu), and Jacks where you can get a good pizza or cheesy bread with awesome drinks. As for the cons, there are two: 1. A little pricey, and will only increase as we get more "in season." For the extra cost of an airplane ride, we could get a suite in downtown Vegas at the Golden Nugget, Plaza, or a luxury mini suite on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for the same price per night here of a standard room. That doesn't necessarily mean the price is not worth it here. Just be prepared is all. 2. Kids. Ugh. During the week there were not many people staying here, but as the weekend crept up more families arrived. Of course all it takes is one mommy and daddy to get drunk at Jacks downstairs while letting 3 ten year old buffoons run up and down the hall six floors up knocking on doors and running away to peeve folks like my wife and I to really put a damper on things (I don't mind admitting I don't like kids-lol. I have my own children and grandchildren-that's enough for me). The point is... do not confuse this with an adults only sanctuary. That is not what this place is. Just be prepared. Overall the score here is more like a 4.5 vs a true 5, but I'm rounding up as my wife and I were able to create some precious memories. That is bigger and better than any high price or annoying kids. Job very well done by the GTR&S. Looking forward to coming back here next year perhaps for a golf outing. :)

My family and I--my wife and three children--arrived after a 5-hour drive from Chicago, just one day after my wife had surgery. After that kind of travel, you expect a warm and professional welcome. That was not our experience. At check-in, there was no one at the front desk. When a staff member named Adriana arrived, there was no greeting, no eye contact, and the interaction felt dismissive and unwelcoming from the start. Even after we calmly tried to reset the tone, the experience did not improve. When we asked to speak with a manager, the situation remained uncomfortable and unresolved.she was even interrupting her manager johnny and said she didn't care if we gave a review. This was a surprising first impression for a resort of this caliber. We also couldn't ignore that we were the only Black family present at the time, which made the interaction feel even more concerning. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that management will take a closer look and address it. We're still here for several days and would truly appreciate the opportunity for our experience to be turned around. Hoping someone from management reaches out during our stay.
