We had a terrible stay a Moonlight Bay Resort! I honestly wish I could give it zero stars. It's truly a shame because with better management it could be a great place. When we arrived, (after driving 3 hours in pouring rain) the manager (owner?) Tom was not there. After trying a couple of phone numbers we reached him at a football game, which surprised us since he knew we would be checking in. Not really a big deal, just surprsing. He told us to go on in to our cabin and that he had turned the heat on for us. He then told us that we were at the wrong location and informed us we had rented a different cabin a few miles away. We expressed suprise and told him we did not realize that when we rented. Long story short, we got to the cabin, unloaded all of our luggage and food, and drove 20 mins into town to get dinner. Came back to find 2 couples inside the cabin saying that they had been rented the same cabin and could not get a hold of the owner. We tracked him down again only for him to tell us that he didn't have the paperwork with him at the game and thought that we were the other people. HE TOLD US TO WORK IT OUT AND DECIDE WHO WOULD COME BACK TO THE ORIGINAL PROPERTY. No apology. We realized we were the ones in the wrong cabin since we didn't even know about this cabin, apologized and packed our stuff back up. We got back to the original, much less nice cabin than the one we had just been in. He let us in and turned the heat on for us. I immediately thought I smelled gas, but we thought the place had just been closed up and with the heater on it would go away. An hour and a half later, with a headache and burning eyes we called Tom back up and told him we thought the stove had a gas leak. He told us the pilot probably blew out and came over and lit it for us. Again, no apology. About an hour later, we noticed a bee in the cabin, twenty minutes later...another bee. Then another bee, and another bee, and another bee, and on and on. What are the odds? At 11:30pm, after dealing with about 7 bees, (and about 4 spiders) ,we had to call Tom again. Our kids were afraid to move and get stung by a bee. We couldn't even use the bathroom because there were two angry bees locked in there. He told us he could give us a refund if we wanted to leave. AT 11:30PM, IN THE POURING RAIN, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRIME FALL COLOR TOUR SEASON. YEAH RIGHT! GOOD LUCK FINDING A HOTEL ROOM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT FOR A FAMILY OF 5! He then offered us a different cabin, but again not much by way of an apology. We packed up again and trudged through the mud to the new cabin. This one was much better since it didn't have bees, but the bunk in the kids' room was way too close to the ceiling and had a light fixture in the way. Our eldest son had to sleep on the sofa. Not that anyone got much sleep at that point! Did I also mention that checkout is at 10:00am, they only offer you two sets of towels (for an occupancy of 5), you have to pay extra for more towels unless your family wants to share 2 bath towels. It didn't matter since we thought the water smelled like rotten eggs and we refused to shower in it. We brushed our teeth with bottled water. We left at 10:00 am the next morning. My husband saw Tom while we were packing up the car, but he didn't stop by to talk to us or apologize. He just drove away without even acknowledging us. No apology, no refund. Seriously, an apology and some kindness would have gone a really long way. I probably would have just chalked it up to a bad night and would not have written this review. Definitely will not be returning! At least we have a crazy memory out of it. read more
