When the owner mentioned it, I was very disappointed, but once we were there, I was so happy with the opportunity. With any B&B, you're staying in the main house, having idle chit chat with other guests, and sometimes hear people in other rooms. The cabin, you have none of this, just perfect tranquility, silence, and isolation. The owners stocked up the fridge for us and we can have breakfast in our own cabin. It was more of a continental breakfast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, etc..., but it was so pleasant. The cabin is located about 500 feet from the main house and several miles from the main road, and about 8 miles from downtown Traverse City. You really get in the woods feeling without being to far from the city and you have a river flowing through your backyard. It is a really nice place and I would gladly stay there again.

Our stay at the Grey Hare was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Derrek and Sarah were so attentive and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The attention to details was impressive - there were glasses of port and chocolate set out for us every night, homemade snacks available in the sitting room and the breakfasts Sarah prepared were so delicious they bordered on decadent. Every morning, Derrek served us a special homemade pastry with coffee at 8:30am while Sarah made our breakfast, ready at 9am. The timing was very relaxing and gave us a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the inn. We stayed in the Barnyard room, which was roomy with a separate sitting room where we could relax and enjoy the view of cherry orchards and bay. The linens were top quality, and the bed was very comfortable. We decided to stay on the peninsula for the majority of our visit and with the recommendations from Sarah and Derrek, we found a nice beach, a fancy restaurant, a retro general store and several roadside stands that sold cherry and lavender products. If you go, be sure to stop at the Harbor View Lavender Farm; their ice cream is special (lavender and honey)!

I also got a quick tour of some of the other rooms --- some are mostly about the bed. Most of the rooms (including the suite) have their own bathrooms; a few of the smaller rooms share bathrooms, which usually works well for us but wasn't what we needed this trip. Innkeeper Katie (and her assistant/husband Jeff) are retiring and training their successor. Katie was quite friendly and helpful; I'll be sorry to see her go. It is a lovely log cabin with a great living room with a television that you are allowed to watch Netflix on and a kitchen, which is mostly used for cooking breakfast. It also has a hot tub, that you can use at your leisure. The best part about the bed and breakfast is the beach with its patio, deck, fire pit, kayaks and canoe that you can use. We stayed in the master suite, which was huge with a huge bathroom that had a claw-foot tub and double headed shower. It was pretty cool. The other rooms appeared to have a separate bathroom from the room, but I did not pry too much to find out if this was true. One thing I did notice was that you could hear people in the neighboring rooms, because the windows were open. There is no air conditioning, but because it is on the water the room stayed nice and cool and air conditioning seemed unnecessary. Ted and Marie, the proprietors, were great hosts. They made a very simple, but lovely breakfast of Grand Traverse Pie Co. Quiche, yogurt, fruit, and freshly made muffins with orange juice and great coffee to drink. At breakfast on Saturday, we had a nice chat with the owners and some other guests. They also gave us some pie for dessert! The hosts really impressed me on the last night of our stay. We were on the beach deck drinking a glass of wine and enjoying the beauty of the bay, when Ted came down with some wood for the fire and helped us build a fire, then left us to enjoy it. He also had said that the paddles for the canoes and kayaks were broken, so he bought new ones while we were staying there and we were able to go for a really great early morning canoe trip prior to check-out time on our last day of our stay. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is traveling as a couple or alone.

The wide open fields that surround the property were a much-needed respite from city life. The home is cozy and historic feeling while somehow also seeming updated in many ways. Our room was well appointed and extremely clean. We stayed in the Kesner room with a slight view of the bay. Breakfast was delicious and somewhat unexpectedly posh, as Eric prepared an egg scramble over asparagus with a breakfast caprese salad, as well as a fruit & ginger smoothie. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the table as well. Misty & Eric also provided complimentary refreshments to guests, which was a nice touch to an already lovely stay. I was initially concerned that it wasn't close enough to Traverse City for our visit to the cherry festival, but it was a quick drive into town and I would absolutely stay at Country Hermitage again. It was getting dark, this place pulled up on our GPS, and we called hesitantly. Linda could NOT have been nicer. She does not stay on-premise for the night, but we called pretty late, and she drove over and met us right away. No one else was staying at the house, so we had the whole place to ourselves. I believe they are sometimes known as a curio shop, when you do a Google search on them. I don't think this is a fair or accurate description. Each piece in this house (and there were a LOT of them) seemed to have a story and a connection to the owners, whether it was something sentimental, like a family photo, or a trinket that was from a friend or previous patron. There was an organized and well-cared for air to everything as well, rather than the antique-shop feel you usually get from places that hold this much intrigue. The bedrooms themselves were amazing, and each one had a theme. We chose the Satin & Lace room, but one room that was especially touching and soothing was the Zada & Serene's room, done in lovely blue and dedicated to the owners' grandmothers. There were even pictures of them, as well as other remembrances. The guest book is also in this bedroom, and looking through it, you really get a feel for how lovely the hostess is. There is also a jacuzzi suite, and we were told that a couple was going to be staying there the night after for their honeymoon. Linda comes over in the morning, and whips up a FANTASTIC breakfast, made to order (from the night before). She is a warm and wonderful person. When I left my jeans there upon departure, she went through a lot of trouble (scouring through the guest book to find us) to find our address to mail it back to us, on their tab. It came with a lovely card, thanking us for the visit. Prices were amazingly reasonable (around $60/night about a year or two ago)...if you think of the money you'd spend on a quality breakfast elsewhere, the stay practically pays for itself. The house on the outside is also lovely, with a sliding rocker on the deck by the back of the house. Great alternative to staying in the standard, run of the mill places in Traverse City. It is a bit out of the way, but well worth it, for at least a night.

She put so much love into her B&B that you truly are in a place that she poured her heart into. The place is very clean, well-kept and comfortable. Linda made us an INCREDIBLE breakfast. Pumpkin pancakes, homemade, with sausage links, scrambled eggs and a fresh fruit bowl with pomegranate seeds! Plus coffee, water and orange juice. We had such a lovely time. Our ONLY issue is our own fault - we're overweight and had a hard time fitting both our "husky" butts in the full-size bed in our room. So, if you're of the "husky" variety, ask for their premium room with the king size bed and a JACUZZI! For less than $100/night WITH HOMEMADE BREAKFAST it's a GEM!
