When the owner mentioned it, I was very disappointed, but once we were there, I was so happy with the opportunity. With any B&B, you're staying in the main house, having idle chit chat with other guests, and sometimes hear people in other rooms. The cabin, you have none of this, just perfect tranquility, silence, and isolation. The owners stocked up the fridge for us and we can have breakfast in our own cabin. It was more of a continental breakfast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, granola, etc..., but it was so pleasant. The cabin is located about 500 feet from the main house and several miles from the main road, and about 8 miles from downtown Traverse City. You really get in the woods feeling without being to far from the city and you have a river flowing through your backyard. It is a really nice place and I would gladly stay there again.

All of these factors helped make our stay an amazing experience, as well as their advice on where to go and what to see in the area. The Inn itself is a large converted farmhouse on an organic cherry farm just north of Traverse City. it does sit next to a highway so there was some significant road noise at times. However it is still an idyllic peaceful property with many places to sit and contemplate nature.

The large wraparound porch was the highlight for us! Even though there had been quite a bit of rain, we were able to spend some time outside overlooking the cherry trees and we were able to see one of the most beautiful sunsets of our lives. The wide open fields that surround the property were a much-needed respite from city life. The home is cozy and historic feeling while somehow also seeming updated in many ways. Our room was well appointed and extremely clean. We stayed in the Kesner room with a slight view of the bay. Breakfast was delicious and somewhat unexpectedly posh, as Eric prepared an egg scramble over asparagus with a breakfast caprese salad, as well as a fruit & ginger smoothie. We enjoyed meeting other guests at the table as well. Misty & Eric also provided complimentary refreshments to guests, which was a nice touch to an already lovely stay. I was initially concerned that it wasn't close enough to Traverse City for our visit to the cherry festival, but it was a quick drive into town and I would absolutely stay at Country Hermitage again. Overall, I can't say enough great things about Country Hermitage and our hosts. Highly recommend.

There are even great places like Rare Bird Brewpub literally around the corner. The B&B itself is really charming and homey. Breakfast itself was a highlight, particularly the perfect balance of healthy & delicious that the innkeeper is able to strike. If you really want to spend time in town, Oviatt House is one of Traverse City's best options.

The "Breakfast" part of Bed and Breakfast molds my opinion of a place, and this one's pretty good…read more The pumpkin pecan waffles were nicely crispy and not too sweet; they were made-to-order for each person in a few minutes, and there was a yogurt-and-granola parfait at each place to keep you entertained --- again, nicely not-too-sweet. Coffee starts at 7:30, and breakfast is 8:30 -- 10:00. Our room also worked well --- we got a suite on the ground floor, and enjoyed having a small living room to stretch out in. I also got a quick tour of some of the other rooms --- some are mostly about the bed. Most of the rooms (including the suite) have their own bathrooms; a few of the smaller rooms share bathrooms, which usually works well for us but wasn't what we needed this trip. Innkeeper Katie (and her assistant/husband Jeff) are retiring and training their successor. Katie was quite friendly and helpful; I'll be sorry to see her go. For nights when we're not camping, Glen Arbor B&B will probably be our pick in the area.

My boyfriend and I came up north for a weekend getaway and neither of us have stayed at a legitimate Bed and Breakfast before, and boy, what a high bar Inn the Pines set for all the subsequent ones. Their home felt like walking into my parent's house: you feel cozy, warm, and cared for the whole time. They were incredibly easy to communicate with and so accommodating. There were always homemade cookies in the common area and Nancy's breakfasts were incredible!!! So many lovely personal touches placed throughout the space. They had a lot of pro-tips on things to do/eat in the area. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the environment was peaceful and rejuvenating. Met two other lovely couples at the Airbnb, and we had a lot of fun getting to know them as well. Can't wait for an opportunity to stay with Nancy and Jerry again!
