Really delicious chowder that's worth the hype! No wonder there's always long lines! They've won a lot of awards for it too. We ordered online for pickup. Once it was time, we went to the pick up line (yes, there's a line for pick up!). Basically, they prepare the chowder in batches, so once it's ready they'll call a bunch of people's names all at once. Efficient!
One of the must visit spots in Pike Place Market for tourists. The restaurant itself has very limited indoor seating, however there are plenty of surrounding areas where you can sit and enjoy your meal. The line can get long, but it's pretty organized and moves fairly quickly. If you are in a hurry, you can order to go, which usually has no wait. The chowders come in different sizes and flavors, and are served with a slice of sourdough bread and oyster crackers. You can even order them in a sourdough bread bowl. I've tried the original clam chowder and seafood bisque, both solid and filling.
We kept hearing about this chowder so we had to try it. I love soup, chowder all of it so I had to find out what the hype was about it. And Good Lord that was some goooood chowder. I ordered the crab, lobster & shrimp chowder and ordered the Dungeness crab roll (it was the only warm one). Both items I picked were A++. If you're ever in Seattle this place is a must if you like chowder and lobster/crab rolls. . What I will say is that there is usually a long line. We got lucky and when we got there yes there was a line but it was a short long line compared to how it can get. We waited in line about 15-20 min and we were also able to order on line but you had to find a place to sit. Their sitting is only for people that wait in line.
Love the variety of chowders The prices aren't that bad at all Flavors were on point with the original Hard to sit but it's ok just cups of Chowder . I'd come back again The employees do rush you if you aren't standing or sitting in a spot for no reason but that's their jobs
God I love clam chowder. Hit the spot. Creamy, savory goodness. A little small/expensive but what isn't at Pike Place? Super good, we got a second bowl. The free sourdough is pretty good too.
Pike Place Chowder is definitely one of the must-visit restaurants in Seattle! My daughter is a huge chowder lover, and she was determined to have chowder every day during our trip. The long line outside was a clear sign of how popular this place is. Since it was our first visit, we decided to try as many varieties as possible. We ordered the sampler featuring seven different 4-ounce chowders, which turned out to be more than enough for the three of us to share. Every chowder was delicious and had its own unique flavor, but among all the varieties, the classic Clam Chowder was our favorite. We enjoyed the experience so much that we decided we'll definitely come back on our next visit to Seattle to try some of the other menu items!
Long line so you know the place is good! We didn't have to wait too long despite many people head of us. It was nice to see the menu posted throughout the line so we had time to decide which chowder to order. We ordered the smoked salmon chowder and the classic clam chowder. Both were very good! Very creamy, with enough add ins. Comes with bread and crackers for a crunch. This is a perfect rainy day meal. The ultimate comfort food while in Seattle!
This was my second time here. the first time I had the New England clam chowder and I loved it. absolutely loved it so I came back this time and wanted to try the Scallop chowder & Lobster roll. I'm super disappointed as the scallop chowder was really more of a potato chowder. There were a few pieces of baby scallops, but I tasted more potatoes than scallop for sure. I love a creamy chowder, but I think this was just a bit too too creamy and heavy. I would've preferred the New England chowder. I think the New England clam chowder is definitely much better than the scallop chowder. Also tried the lobster roll. It was OK. I don't think it was worth it. I will never order it again. Maybe everything's better the first time around. I came here around 11:30/12p, and there was a long line but it moves fast. I saw a few people try to reserve seats before they got their order and I'm so glad that Staff is watching this because there's just not enough seating so saving a table before getting your food is just not right. I saw the staff kindly inform a few customers that they can't save seats until they have received their order. They need more seating here. There's also a lot of to go orders.
Seattle staple I would say? Wouldn't expect the line to go that long honestly, but good thing it moved pretty quickly. They also hand an attendant helping coordinating the line and let people know that if you only had it for to-go, you could skip the line and ordered online. Smart to improve efficiency! We got their New England Clam Chowder and boy, I did underestimate how luscious it turned out. Rich fresh seafood toppings came just in the right chowder texture. Neither too thick, nor too thin! No wonder they've gotten that plenty of awards. Pro-tip, just order online, skip the line, and eat at public space within the market. Nice open table to watch the market's crowd!
Pike Place Chowder still reigns supreme! It's a must visit every time I'm in Seattle. My brother told me you can now order online and pick up instead of waiting in line - you pass that, go inside and they have a window in the back. I ordered off the toast app and it was so easy and fast! We got the clam chowder bread bowl and still amazing. They did forget to give us the bowl but when I went back, they gave it to me. Still so good and can't wait to come back!
Visiting Seattle for the second time, but my first time traveling here solo, I came to Pike Place Chowder on Saturday afternoon for a light lunch. I was running the Iron Horse Half Marathon the next morning, so I didn't want anything too heavy. I stood in line for almost half an hour, which honestly felt a little ridiculous, but eventually ordered the Seafood Bisque with Pacific cod, Northwest salmon, and Oregon bay shrimp in a creamy tomato broth. The bisque was pretty good. It came with oyster crackers and a slice of what I believe was sourdough bread. I took everything to a nearby outdoor seating area and ate there. I'd probably give the bisque itself around a 3.5/5. It was good, but I don't know if I'd wait half an hour specifically for it again. Still, I'll round up and give the overall experience 4 stars. I'd come back if I'm in the area again, but be prepared for the line! 4/5 stars Last visited: August 29, 2026
Coming in clutch. After bad drinks and no food at our happy hour stop we came to Pile Place Chowder. We were so excited to not see a line. Well.... Because they closed in 4 mins. They didn't care. They were welcoming and helpful with suggestions. They allowed us to sit and eat without rushing us while they cleaned up around. The New England clam chowder and the market chowder were amazing. Being in the market is always great for people watching and atmosphere.
10/10 overall. Got their sampler and my personal favorite was the smoked salmon chowder. But all of them were so flavorful and probably some of the best chowder I've ever had.

I came to Pikes Place with a small contingent of Taiwanese teens visiting my wife and I this summer. We took a walking tour of the market and the guide told us about all of the awards this place had, so the next day we tried it. Everyone in our party agreed it was the best New England style clam chowder ever tasted. My godniece travelled up here a month later and her experience was the same. Well done PPC! read more

A must in the Pike Market area! Pike Place Chowder has insanely long lines for their clam chowder and for a good reason. It's just that good. They do have online ordering that is a little faster, but if you're looking to avoid the crowds, visit them during the weekdays. On a Monday at lunch time, there was no line and we were able to get seats. They have just a handful of tables inside to eat at but there's more seating outside. Their New England clam chowder comes with a piece of bread & oyster crackers. It has a good thickness and plenty of clams and potatoes in it. Definitely perfect during these cold Seattle days. read more

The infamous pikes place chowder definitely lives up to the hype and is well worth the wait! While visiting pikes place, my bf and I decided to check out pike place chowder since both of us are clam chowder lovers. The wait was quite long wrapping around the side, but luckily it moved by quite fast. When we approached the front, we decided to get the sampler platter that comes with 4 chowders, each a unique flavor and my absolute favorite flavors were the clam flavor and the original. It was a bit difficult to find seating inside though since the space is small and seating is limited and they do not allow finding a seat prior to ordering. Luckily we were able to snag a seat and got to eat inside. Likes place chowder definitely lives up to the hype and I cannot recommend it more highly! read more

They have so many awards for a reason. Not sure they need another review, but the hype was worth it so why not. We split the traditional chowder and the flavor/warmth was awesome. Generous amount of clam inside and the potatoes weren't mush like they are at so many places. Creamy without separating as well. The line was long, but that's expected for a place like this right my Pike Place and the staff were well distributed and helpful in making things move quickly. Seating can be a little hard to come by, but again this moves quickly. Great spot. read more

Loved all the chowders here! It's great that they have flights so you can try a bunch of their different options! It was creamy, buttery and delicious!!!! Might be my top 2 chowders I've had, aside from Splash in Pismo! You order at the counter then find seating. It gets busy here and was hard to grab a seat inside but luckily we snagged a few outside. They come with slices of bread and you can get the soft inside of the bread bowls for free if you ask for it! Highly recommend! Wish we had enough people to do the 8 flight! But a flight of 4 was perfect for our group of 5! read more

The best clam chowder we've ever had, hands down. The line can be long but it is very quick. The seating is a little bit more difficult and you're not allowed to hold a table if you see it free, you can only go to a table after getting your order. It's tucked in an alley so no views of the harbor. read more

The famous pike place chowder! I was very excited to try this place. We ordered a medium sized clam chowder and it came with a loaf of sourdough. The chowder was decently priced. It came out immediately and it was good! I don't know if I would go out of my way to get it because it was nothing special, but I enjoyed it. There is not a lot of seating in this place so I would be aware of that. read more

A vegan option!! Whoop whoop! An interesting, but tasty way to enjoy a bowl of soup with my fellow foodies who wanted their cowder. It had coconut milk and curry flavors and a ton of veggies. Honestly, if you're into trying something new and love those flavors, I'd suggest trying at least a small size. The line goes quickly. You still get a piece of sourdough and oyster crackers. :) FYI, if you order to-go, you can take into a small public dining area but not the designated dining area for Pike Place Chowder. No biggie. read more

Solid chowder. It's very touristy so be prepared for a line--- but it moves pretty quick. GLOWS: -They have an expansive menu with more options outside of just chowder -There are some seats inside, people rotate in and out pretty quickly, so getting a seat might be an option if you stick around. -S/o to the staff who selected the throwback r&b music vibes on the day I was in. It created a great mood. GROWS: -Be sure to discuss allergens because not all ingredients are clearly listed in the description of each chowder. read more
Nothing less then five stars for this AMAZING shop. My wife and I did a lot of research of where to come when we were spending some time in Seattle and this place came up on every You Tube and traveller's guide. Definite reason why... BEST CHOWDER EVER. We reviewed a lot of the Youtube videos that people make of the various places to visit and all we heard was about the very long lines and not a lot of tables inside. After finding the place, we went to the back of a 'not so long line' for about 10 minutes, purchased our chowder and sat down at one of their small tables. Very easy and enjoyable experiences. The menu board is complex. Many diffferent types of chowder and of course their special of the day with whatever fish they are using. Also many sizes and even a sampler of multiple chowders. In a nutshell... This New England chowder was AWESOME. Easily, the best chowder I have ever had. Rich-Creamy-Tasty with plenty of clams and potatoes. Every spoonful I had made me want to take another one. It comes with Oyster crackers and a piece of bread. Pike Place Chowder is a must visit while in Seattle. I get it! When you're an island girl and temperatures don't drop below 70, Seattle weather hits differently. It's perfect chowder weather. The line wrapped around the corner. Yelp BFF and I walked into the little shopping center and found the hidden chowder take out line. WINNAHS! We asked the cashier how we go about ordering, scanned the QR code with our phone and picked up our order within 5 minutes. We managed to find seats in the designated chowder seating area and thoroughly enjoyed our chowder. We got the New England clam chowder with a bread bowl to share. Personally, I prefer corn chowder over clam chowder, but this one was pretty good. It was creamy and had hearty chunks of clam that didn't taste rubbery at all. I'm not a fan of sourdough, but Yelp BFF loves it and it does go with the chowder very well. Put this on your Seattle bucket list! Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what I should try next! read more

was excited to try the clam chowder and I'm glad I did! I would give this place a solid 4/5. There is a huge line so it goes kind of fast. That's the easy part, the hard part is finding to find a table for a small group of 4. The seating is tight so not much room in between tables. The food was delicious. Prices are what you would expect. Expensive but worth trying. -New England clam chowder 5/5 - Creamy, it went well with your bread. I liked the slices with the bacon. Plenty of clams. -Connecticut style Dungeness crab roll 5/5 - it was my first time trying a crab roll and it did not disappoint. It made me crave for more. -Connecticut style lobster roll - i loved the lobster roll, I just wished there was more crab in it for the price. read more
I was craving clam chowder. I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try since there's so many good reviews. once we got there we got in the long line. The line does separate to not block the walkway. a few people got confused where it starts, but then they eventually figure it out. I checked in on Yelp and it gave me a dollar off coupon for the sampler. The line moved fast. There's limited seating inside and outdoors. I ordered the sampler clam chowder and I chose four different ones to try. I like the original clam chowder the best followed by the scallop one. They give you a piece of bread and crackers with the clam chowder. We sat outdoors to eat, it does get crowded and people do try to find a table to sit down. Staff is friendly. Tables are close together. I like the clam chowder so much that we came back after the cruise. read more

My goodness, that was the best chowder I've ever had in my life! Beware, there is always a long line that usually wraps around the corner but it moves relatively quickly. Seating is also limited but we were lucky to share a table with a sweet gal we met in line. What I love is the variety of different chowders to choose from. We opted for the 4-Cup Chowder Sampler for $19.95 and selected the Seared Scallop Chowder, Seafood Bisque, Market Chowder and the Crab, Oyster & Chorizo Chowder which ended up being my favorite out of the three with the Seared Scallop coming in at a close second. YUM! All of them were delish and served as a light filler meal in between sampling the many offerings of Pike's Place. Those are only 4 of the many other options you have so peruse their menu to see what they have to offer that suits your individual tastebuds. They also offer decadent lobster rolls and sandwiches as well. YUM! Service was fast and friendly and everyone was in great spirits. I really love the vibe in Seattle and truly miss living in Washington at times. Definitely a must visit spot in Pike's Place Market. read more

The chowder (and I mean this with my whole chest) IS AMAZING WITH THREE EXCLAMATION POINTS!! Truly is one of (if not THE) best. Super creamy, not too thick, with a good amount of seafood and veggies mixed throughout. I'm not a big fan of clams but I could honestly eat this everyday (we've gone twice in a row so far). The sourdough is a 50/50. Personally, I really liked the sour sourdough with the chowder, but most of my group thought the sourdough was way too sour. Try tabasco with the chowder - gave it a nice kick!! Seating is pretty limited and they are really strict about no holding tables, and so be aware! This location had a pretty long line right at opening, but it went by pretty quick. Server's were nice, and even gave us an extra sourdough slice when they saw my husband and I sharing a large! 10/10 read more

Ordered smoked salmon chowder. It was perfect for a sunny but cold day in February. Got plenty of smoked salmon chunks in the soup. Only downside was that I had to share my soup :) would definitely recommend it. Seating arrangements are a bit challenging but most of the customers eat and leave, so should be able to get a spot. read more

The food was amazing and absolutely worth it! The original New England clam chowder is by far the best chowder I've had. It's filled with clams and doesn't have too strong of a fishy taste. It's seasoned well and the chowder is smooth, allowing you to taste each ingredient! The crab roll was delightful and worth trying as well! It's perfectly crisp on grilled ends and is brimming with crab meat. We got the 1/4th lb for reference. The other chowders including the smoked salmon, seafood bisque, and crab & oyster chowders were also delectable! Definitely worth trying. I am not usually a seafood lover but these chowders serve the perfect amount of seafood flavor without any strong fishiness. Service was nice! They are quick to take down and make your order. The location is relatively small but gives a very intimate feeling if you're able to grab a table inside. When weather permits, there is also outdoor seating! Ask the Community - Pike Place Chowder
Is the clam chowder fishy, as in a strong seafood taste and smell? Are the bits of clam large or small?
The clam chowder is amazing- creamy and thick with huge chunks of clams in every bite. Can't really smell the fishiness. Only smell the cream and potato, maybe a hint of seafood.
Is there gluten free clam chowder?
Yes! They have a couple of gluten free/ vegan chowders on the menu. Right now, they have Manhattan chowder (GF) plus Lime and coconut chowder (GF, Vegan).
Got back to the bay and missing this chowder already. Anyway to get it frozen and flown over?
Yes they ship for $35. Check out their website pikeplacechowder.com/order
I assume the lines are always long on a Sunday. Is Monday a better choice for a shorter wait time? Thanks!
Yes, it's not as busy on the weekdays but the line generally isn't the issue because it moves pretty quickly. It's finding a table to sit at because seats are limited and it's first come, first served seating.
Does the clam chowder have bacon in it? Can't have bacon.
They have several chowder options. I believe some (at least one) do and others don't. Workers are friendly and can help you with bacon free options.
Adult & childrens menu?
I only saw one menu. You can get cup/small, bowl/ medium or larger. What we did is ordered two bowls and then ordered other stuff at another restaurant and shared the various items that we each picked near the waterfront.
If I come in at 4:50 or 4:55 on a weekday (right before closing), will I still be served? Will I need to get my food to go?
Generally no. They tend to only make enough for that day and run out of most favors before the day ends.
How often do they change their Market Chowder selection?
The change the market chowder every couple of months.
We're taking our dad to his very first visit to SEA and will definitely visit this delicious and popular establishment for my dad to try. My question is..he's disabled so will there be a wheelchair-accessible seating?
Forget hitting the Pike Place market location, and instead go to the second location, which is on the top floor of the air-conditioned shopping mall called Pacific Center, complete with accessible seating, elevators and no line-up.
What is the best time to visit so there's not such a long wait?
Hi Damaris! The line tends to be shorter right before we open or close, but if you're local, you have an even better option to skip the line. We just introduced our Grab & Go take-out program that allows you to order online and pick up anytime…
Is there indoor seating?
Yes, but there is more seating outside. You can also take your food & go to a public seating area in the market by making a right at a sign which reads "Sea View Cafe."
