Really delicious chowder that's worth the hype! No wonder there's always long lines! They've won a lot of awards for it too. We ordered online for pickup. Once it was time, we went to the pick up line (yes, there's a line for pick up!). Basically, they prepare the chowder in batches, so once it's ready they'll call a bunch of people's names all at once. Efficient!

Finally got to try this spot on my recent trip to Seattle! I got the seafood bisque and the lobster roll. I thought the bisque was really tasty and had a nice aroma of seafood. However, the lobster roll was quite a dissapointment, it was very dry and rubbery. I didn't love the lobster roll and felt that for the price it was not worth it. Service was quick and the restaurant was very inviting in terms of space.

While the line was very long it went fairly fast. The chowder and lobster roll were definitely worth the wait. We will come back when we are back in Seattle!!

One of the must visit spots in Pike Place Market for tourists. The restaurant itself has very limited indoor seating, however there are plenty of surrounding areas where you can sit and enjoy your meal. The line can get long, but it's pretty organized and moves fairly quickly. If you are in a hurry, you can order to go, which usually has no wait. The chowders come in different sizes and flavors, and are served with a slice of sourdough bread and oyster crackers. You can even order them in a sourdough bread bowl. I've tried the original clam chowder and seafood bisque, both solid and filling.

We kept hearing about this chowder so we had to try it. I love soup, chowder all of it so I had to find out what the hype was about it. And Good Lord that was some goooood chowder. I ordered the crab, lobster & shrimp chowder and ordered the Dungeness crab roll (it was the only warm one). Both items I picked were A++. If you're ever in Seattle this place is a must if you like chowder and lobster/crab rolls. . What I will say is that there is usually a long line. We got lucky and when we got there yes there was a line but it was a short long line compared to how it can get. We waited in line about 15-20 min and we were also able to order on line but you had to find a place to sit. Their sitting is only for people that wait in line.

Love the variety of chowders The prices aren't that bad at all Flavors were on point with the original Hard to sit but it's ok just cups of Chowder . I'd come back again The employees do rush you if you aren't standing or sitting in a spot for no reason but that's their jobs

We knew we had to get chowder at Pike Place but were a little intimidated by the long line...we ended up ordering online for pickup at the "secret" window inside the building so we could continue to shop and walk around while our order was being prepared. It only took about 10 minutes for it to be ready, and it was definitely worth any wait! We got the salmon chowder due to my shellfish allergy and it was so creamy and delicious, it hits the spot! It was served with a small side of French bread but I highly recommend getting a fresh crumpet from the crumpet shop to dip, so good!

WOW amazing clam chowder! I got the one with the scallions it it and was amazing!! I definitely see which this place is so popular! It is in the middle of the pike market the line was long but went by very fast they were super efficient there! The place is more of a hole in the wall vibe but I felt it was authentic

Pike Place Chowder is definitely one of the must-visit restaurants in Seattle! My daughter is a huge chowder lover, and she was determined to have chowder every day during our trip. The long line outside was a clear sign of how popular this place is. Since it was our first visit, we decided to try as many varieties as possible. We ordered the sampler featuring seven different 4-ounce chowders, which turned out to be more than enough for the three of us to share. Every chowder was delicious and had its own unique flavor, but among all the varieties, the classic Clam Chowder was our favorite. We enjoyed the experience so much that we decided we'll definitely come back on our next visit to Seattle to try some of the other menu items!

We love pikes place chowder every time we go up there. Personally I like the Manhattan clam chowder and I love the salmon chowder. Usually, I put a little packet of Tabasco in the Manhattan chowder and they give you some very good sourdough bread so you can dip it. Keep in mind the line is typically long, but it goes pretty quick, but if you're in a real hurry, you can order online and then just go pick it up. My girls like to go to the ginger beer place Nextdoor and get a ginger beer before our chowder. I'm not too crazy about how the city hasn't cleaned up downtown Seattle, but they have been doing a lot of great work on the waterfront. There's new pedestrian bridges, walkways, and observation decks behind pikes Place market.

In the sampler I got the original New England Clam Chowder, Smoked Salmon Chowder, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and the Seafood Bisque. All four were amazing and some of the best chowders I have ever had. This place is a must visit when in Seattle.

Seattle staple I would say? Wouldn't expect the line to go that long honestly, but good thing it moved pretty quickly. They also hand an attendant helping coordinating the line and let people know that if you only had it for to-go, you could skip the line and ordered online. Smart to improve efficiency! We got their New England Clam Chowder and boy, I did underestimate how luscious it turned out. Rich fresh seafood toppings came just in the right chowder texture. Neither too thick, nor too thin! No wonder they've gotten that plenty of awards. Pro-tip, just order online, skip the line, and eat at public space within the market. Nice open table to watch the market's crowd!

Pike Place Chowder still reigns supreme! It's a must visit every time I'm in Seattle. My brother told me you can now order online and pick up instead of waiting in line - you pass that, go inside and they have a window in the back. I ordered off the toast app and it was so easy and fast! We got the clam chowder bread bowl and still amazing. They did forget to give us the bowl but when I went back, they gave it to me. Still so good and can't wait to come back!

Pike Place Chowder Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Pike Place Chowder

Is the fish fresh or frozen?

Fresh!

Are they still requiring proof of vaccination?

Nope! And no masks either!

Is the clam chowder fishy, as in a strong seafood taste and smell? Are the bits of clam large or small?

The clam chowder is amazing- creamy and thick with huge chunks of clams in every bite. Can't really smell the fishiness. Only smell the cream and potato, maybe a hint of seafood.

Is there gluten free clam chowder?

Yes! They have a couple of gluten free/ vegan chowders on the menu. Right now, they have Manhattan chowder (GF) plus Lime and coconut chowder (GF, Vegan).

Can you get the lobster roll without mayonnaise?

Yes

Is there any dairy in the Manhattan chowder?

Yes

Got back to the bay and missing this chowder already. Anyway to get it frozen and flown over?

Yes they ship for $35. Check out their website pikeplacechowder.com/order

I assume the lines are always long on a Sunday. Is Monday a better choice for a shorter wait time? Thanks!

Yes, it's not as busy on the weekdays but the line generally isn't the issue because it moves pretty quickly. It's finding a table to sit at because seats are limited and it's first come, first served seating.

Does the clam chowder have bacon in it? Can't have bacon.

They have several chowder options. I believe some (at least one) do and others don't. Workers are friendly and can help you with bacon free options.

Adult & childrens menu?

I only saw one menu. You can get cup/small, bowl/ medium or larger. What we did is ordered two bowls and then ordered other stuff at another restaurant and shared the various items that we each picked near the waterfront.

Gluten free options?

Manhattan and Lime & Coconut chowder are gluten free.

If I come in at 4:50 or 4:55 on a weekday (right before closing), will I still be served? Will I need to get my food to go?

Generally no. They tend to only make enough for that day and run out of most favors before the day ends.

How often do they change their Market Chowder selection?

The change the market chowder every couple of months.

We're taking our dad to his very first visit to SEA and will definitely visit this delicious and popular establishment for my dad to try. My question is..he's disabled so will there be a wheelchair-accessible seating?

Forget hitting the Pike Place market location, and instead go to the second location, which is on the top floor of the air-conditioned shopping mall called Pacific Center, complete with accessible seating, elevators and no line-up.

Where do you park?

Market Place Public Parking

What is the best time to visit so there's not such a long wait?

Hi Damaris! The line tends to be shorter right before we open or close, but if you're local, you have an even better option to skip the line. We just introduced our Grab & Go take-out program that allows you to order online and pick up anytime…

Is there indoor seating?

Yes, but there is more seating outside. You can also take your food & go to a public seating area in the market by making a right at a sign which reads "Sea View Cafe."

Service was very friendly, but communication between my waiter and the kitchen was lacking. I ordered the gekikara ramen, and the waiter said he'd ask the kitchen to put the habanero paste on the side so I could add it to taste. He did warn that it was *very* spicy. When the ramen arrived and I started eating it, I definitely raised my brows at how spicy it still was despite not having the habanero paste in it yet -- or so I thought. I added a bit more just so I could at least try the paste, but then I was at my personal threshold for spiciness. A few minutes later, I heard the waiter tell the cook in Spanish that I asked for the habanero to be on the side. The waiter then apologized and told me that the cook misunderstood and put the habanero into the broth (which I then ended up adding even *more* into). I wasn't upset at all and actually thought it was pretty funny, but the waiter felt so bad that they discounted my ramen on my bill. Aside from the pretty intense level of heat, the flavors were great and the noodles had the perfect amount of chew, but the sheer level of spiciness I was dealing with did negatively impact my enjoyment of the ramen to some degree. I also tried the karaage bun, which had pieces of karaage sandwiched inside a fluffy bun with cucumbers and green onions. This was actually helpful for staving off the heat, but it was also just a delicious little treat to enjoy with my meal. So was the strawberry passionfruit slushie, which wasn't too sweet and was very refreshing. The mishap with the ramen didn't ruin my meal, but everything about this meal was just ok. Nothing that blew my mind and really stood out, but certainly nothing terrible. Seattle just has too many really standout restaurants for me to want to come back here over one of those.

My 3 things 1) Seasonal Ramen is Ginger Tonkatsu. Do it we all need more gingers in our life 2) Don't go crazy with the spice. Enjoy the depth of the broth. Throw in some extra's they all add depth. 3) They have lunch special options that add a little value if you're looking to try this and have some extra's. So you go in the corner of the restaurant and do your best to walk yourself through the menu. Everything costs an additional fee here. You want an egg? $2. Pork? $9. So for $14 you can get a bowl of miso broth with noodles, negi and raw onion or you can shill out an almost entire entrees worth of additional toppings to make yourself an actual bowl of ramen. There were probably 7 servers for a 500sqf dining room but all they do is bus you at the end and drop a check. It must be the easiest serving gig in Seattle. Broth itself was decent. The noodles lacked any character or flavor. My egg was cooked perfectly but was cold as ice. If you're going to charge me $2 for a single poached egg please use a sous vide or hot water bath to hold them at temperature. No designated parking means you're looking at another $5-$6 to park on the street. Simply not worth it for what you get.
