On our trip to Islamorada, there was definitely no shortage of good restaurants, but finding one open on a Monday proves to be a challenge. We stumbled across Pierre's Lounge & Restaurant at Morada Bay, and honestly, this place is a hidden gem. It doesn't seem to pop up in a lot of the Islamorada food videos, but it has killer reviews on OpenTable, and we experienced why. Pierre's is located inside a beautiful two-story colonial-style house overlooking Florida Bay. It has that vintage, old Florida feel, with beautiful views of the beach and water. We were seated inside at a table overlooking the bay, and between the view, the service, and the food, it ended up being one of the best meals of the trip. We did the Chef's 6-Course Tasting Menu, and every course was great. Everything was fresh and prepared perfectly. The tasting included butter lettuce with hearts of palm and green goddess dressing, scallop and Florida pink shrimp ceviche, Hudson Valley foie gras, pan roasted branzino, chargrilled lamb chops, and a key lime tart to finish. The branzino and lamb chops were both standouts, every bite was better than the last. I washed it down with a couple Smoked Sailor Old Fashioneds, made with Mount Gay Triple Cask XO, bourbon. For years, Pierre's was one of our favorite restaurants in the Keys. I've celebrated special occasions here with family and friends and have always loved the beautiful sunset views, exceptional food, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, after returning I was shocked by how much the experience has declined. We started with the Yellowtail Tuna Tartare, which was mediocre at best and lacked the freshness and flavor. The biggest disappointment was the Truffle Gnocchi with Shrimp. The shrimp appeared to be simply fried separately and placed on top of the gnocchi as an afterthought. The presentation was poor, there was virtually no truffle flavor, and overall it was one of the worst gnocchi dishes I've ever had. As a restaurant that has always prided itself on French cuisine, I was especially surprised by the escargot. Instead of being served in a traditional, appealing presentation, the escargot were removed from their shells and scattered on a plate with lettuce and a pastry in the center. It looked messy and completely missed the mark. The staff did bring out a complimentary Key lime pie for the birthday celebration, which was thoughtful. Ironically, it ended up being the best thing we ate all evening. It's genuinely sad to see what was once a gem of a restaurant lose so much of what made it special. The quality, presentation, and attention to detail that kept us coming back year after year seem to be gone. I don't know if it's the result of the change in ownership, but the magic simply isn't there anymore. After many wonderful memories at Pierre's, this is not a review I ever expected to write. Sadly, I'll be lowering my rating and, for the first time in years, I'm not sure we'll be returning. read more

If you are visiting the Florida Keys, you must plan a dinner at Pierre's! Absalom, our server was so sweet and very knowledgeable about all the menu items! Our dinner with a view of a glorious sunset: Plum beach oysters Escargot in puff pastry with a delightful cream butter sauce. The best we have had in all the places we have visited so far! Dinner : Rib eye steak cooked perfectly paired with crispy steak fries! And the branzino! Wow! So good! We enjoyed a bottle of Bella Glos Pinot noir and crème brûlée for dessert! Im very sorry to say, but all the food was sub-par. Don't know what has happened at Pierres, this place had amazing food several years ago. Its a shame to see it lose it's 5 star rating. The ambiance was great until they allowed an obnoxious group to be seated next to two couples enjoying what looked to be their anniversaries. Staff was exceptional, very attentive, and accommodating. Had an exceptional meal here last night, and incredible service as well. Firstly, let me start by saying the house, the balcony, the views are all so stunning! We were greeted by the manager who noticed our anniversary in the reservation booking (which I always appreciate). Had a great server Skylar and everyone in between bringing out our plates and cleaning the table were all great. For the food, we started with the vol-au-vent and tuna tartare - both delicious and filling! We then went with the special which was a filet topped with a Florida lobster tail, served with mashed potatoes and onion rings and 2 types of sauces - this was incredibleeee. The location, historic building, the views, the service, the meals. Can't say enough good things about Pierre's. This is a must if you are in the area. Absalom, our waiter, was very attentive and provided detailed descriptions of the meals and their preparation. The ceviche is a must, the dressing on the garnish was amazing, the foie gras was perfect, which also had a vegetable prepared with a cream sauce out of this world, escargot was perfectly cooked and presented, as well as the French onion soup. Beautiful seaside dining with stunning sunset view. Fully high touch service. We all enjoyed our entrees including grouper, lamb, children's steak, chicken. The lamb dish was excellent. Burrata appetizer was OK, the cheese wasn't quite set as we would prefer. The special prawn bruschetta appetizer was really good though. My wife had pork dish which she said was "good" , I had lamb chops which were not so good, on was fatty another thicker one was tough. We went for our anniversary and the service and food were outstanding! The staff went out of their way to acknowledge our special occasion multiple times, and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions. We got the shrimp cocktail, gnocchi, ribeye, and the crème brûlée. From the escargot to the sea bass, from the lamb chops and Iberica Pluma to the key lime pie tart and lava cake - every bite was incredible. French cuisine but in a very interesting place of fusion decor from different parts of the world, including Africa and India. The views must be amazing during the sunset hours, but dining in November makes that difficult. For my dinner I only saw the tiki torches at the shoreline and imagined what might be out there. To start I shared the Escargot Vol-au-vent - Lemon grass, garlic, fresh herbs, butter, dressed frisée which was really quite good. The escargot vanished amongst the presentation while the flavors blended together. I also tasted the French Onion soup which I believe was on special. That was perfect too. For my main, I had the snapper, which was the catch of the day. It was cooked perfectly, and the presentation came together very well for flavor. Service was a little distracted, which was odd for a slow night. Otherwise, the perfect cap to the meal was indulging on a chocolate mousse dessert, which was perfect. It was not too large, and not too sweet. Service and price kept this review from the five-star mark. Though the dinner was outstanding, I do not believe the value was there in pricing for it to be a five-star experience. read more

From the beautiful location in Islamorada with gorgeous sunset views, to the exceptional service from the staff, and the delicious food and drinks. I can't say enough good things! 10/10 experience! I've been here a few times, but today I sat at the bar and that was the move! They have an appetizer flight, only available at the bar, that was amazing!!!! We got the full flight and every item was great. The French onion consume was the unique soup I've ever had. I had thought Pierre's fell off a couple years ago, but they are totally back. When you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or just want a fancy meal while on vacation, head directly to Pierre's! This spot on the gulf side of Islamorada is in an old Florida Keys mansion, so the ambiance is high class all around. And the views, especially from the upper level balcony, are to die for. Go for sunset! This meal will cost you, but it's worth it. Service is outstanding. And this is one of the few restaurants on the island that includes bread service with the meal. We LOVED the Gnocchi and shared that for an appetizer. It was incredible, and quite a large portion. We all also opted for the Jumbo Seared Scallops for dinner, and they easily accommodated our gluten free friend, substituting potatoes for the pasta. This was a true highlight of our trip! read more

This was an experience. I love this restaurant from the moment we sat down. Our waiter was attentive, engaging, friendly, and knowledgeable. The food was so simple, yet so flavorful and amazing. Service and ambience is a 10/10! We had an outside table and watched the sunset. It was a beautiful evening. The manager and waitress were super tentative. You can tell they really care about their guests! Don't expect to leave stuffed but expect fine dining with a fancy plated meal that taste delicious. We got the tuna tartare and would recommend that! We love the atmosphere which felt colonial, comfortable and airy. We sat on the veranda and enjoyed the view of the gardens and the water. Wow. First of all: 1000/10. You can skipped my long s review and go straight to this place or book a reservation. We were 4 and decided to go with the Chef Tasting Menu Experience. It is a 6 course menu. The entire table will have to do it. The 6 courses were as follows: 1. The most amazing cooked oysters I've tried in my entire life. Wow. They were cooked with butter and simply exquisite. 2. Tuna tartare: Extremely fresh, perfectly paired with avocado. So delicious. 3. Seared Hudson Valley Foie-gras: For those who don't know that is duck liver. This was my first time trying it and it literally melted in my mouth. They paired it with the most perfect bread. The taste was amazing!!! Jesus Christ! I promise it won't disappoint. 4. Miso Glazed Chilean Seabass: comes on a cauliflower purée. OMG! This was absolutely delicious even the mushrooms that came with were so tasty. 5. Prime Ribeye: perfectly cooked, so tender and flavorful. By this point we were already getting full since we forts ordered crab claws, which came with the most amazing sauce. 6. Key Lime: this was good. Not bad. Nothing much to say since I'm not a big Key Lime fan in general. In addition, we also ordered the La Belle Farms Half Dry Aged Duck "a l'orange" we all agree that we could have skipped that but we wanted to try it. We just didn't think it was wow. How the mighty fall. Pierre's was THE best food, most elegant, had top service, with a killer view of the sunsets. The building is still beautiful. The sunsets entertain. The cuisine and culture have been devastated by its new owners. When Cheeca Lodge bought it, my hope was that they understood that this was the culinary crown jewel of the Keys. If you have never eaten here before, it's about the same as the B+ restaurants in the area, only with 5-star prices. If you've eaten here before, the drop in food quality and service, is all too apparent. This is now, sadly, a hermit crab restaurant. Gone is the last top drawer chef and staff. Same with the so many of the long-working top grade bartenders, servers and managers. In? A lot of H2B workers, including management, who seem to be well intentioned, but lack the skill sets to work at a restaurant of this caliber. Their chilled seafood tower used to have beautifully poached lobster and shrimp. Today, the shellfish is as hard as you find at the volume places like Islamorada Fish Company. The oysters had an off smell that I've never experienced before. I passed. My "boneless" lamb tenderloin had a very sharp bone that was left in the meat, and was tough as shoe leather. Inedible. Plate imbalanced with sweets and fats, and no contrasts. Embarrassing, for this level of cuisine price point. They sous vide the meat, but they took this one out well before it was ready. Tough and rawish is no way to serve food, Chef. The escargot dish was good tasting, but tepid. The sauce plated was not supposed to be cold. It dings the otherwise top dish, of the night. The new chef, who came across from Cheeca Lodge, has removed some of Pierre's classics, including the French onion soup, which was a regular fave, and was selling well, until they dropped it, a month ago. Mistake? Yep. The regulars are a lifeblood of this place, and Cheeca. That does not make friends or keep people coming back. The bar has gone from awesome to embarrassing. The H2B gal there can barely make basic drinks. So green that the Grinch would be envious. She left the syrup out of one drink, making it SAVORY. Ugh. She worked over at their beach shack the prior week. Still great parking and oh that sand with those views. That's the stars. Go eat at Chef Michaels, across the road. At least they keep the bar high for their cuisine. I don't see this getting much better, Cheeca makes bsnk charging top dollar for memories, from tourists who don't know. read more

Update- we went back a couple days later for the rib cap and brought 2 more couple with us. I'm not sure what happened but they were completely different steaks than we had a couple days before and they were all over cooked. It was disappointing and actually embarrassing since I talked up the rib cap so much. At this point I'm not sure I would go back based on the inconsistency of the food. read more
