Good flavor and not too creamy cheesey flavor was more baked into the noodles themselves. 4 stars - Fries: thin crispy. 3.5 stars - Burrata: hidden under a layer of prosciutto and a crostini underneath. 3 stars - Cocktails: pretty good. Hidden gem just off the Overseas Hwy...my friend found this spot and recommended it very highly so made it a point to come here for vacation date night / my birth dinner. Parking is anywhere you can find a spot. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of the Grassy Flats Resort & Beach Club. They have both indoor and outdoor seating...we sat outside and there was plenty of fans and shade so it was actually quite comfortable. Service was very good...think laid back Florida Keys but classy. They don't rush you between courses, but don't take too long that it is uncomfortable. We started off with drinks. My husband had a Stella Arois and I had Pinot Grigio. We also just went with their tap water, which they were excellent at replenishing throughout dinner. For apps, my husband had the Fried Octopus - he said it was really good and he especially loved the celery, carrot and kalamata olive sofrito. I went with the Roasted Woods...what a unique dish! Crispy roasted Maitake mushrooms with miso cream and toasted hazelnuts. I would definitely this again! For entrees, my husband went with the seared Catch of the day, which was Black Grouper; it comes with pureed sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. He said it was all delicious. I went with the Cauliflower Steak which was good but I'd like to try something else next time. Maybe a salad or a pasta dish sans meat. I also had the sweet corn and coconut soup....so good! Would definitely have again! I already came with dessert on my mind when I saw they had a Bread Pudding but alas, this is only sold at the Grassy Flats Market now. Very cute place with a nice terrace qith water view on a beautiful beach on second floor FYI i had a bit trouble finding :) its in the grassy flats resort. The staff was very friendly and attentive from the start. The menu was small but had land and sea options as well as vegetarian. The filet is amazing!!! The weather was much nicer on this trip than it was the last time we were here, so we were able to sit outside on the deck. What a beautiful view, even after the sun went down and the full moon came out. Derek was our server, and the food and service were impeccable. He said it is not the same chef as a year ago. How could it be even better than thelast time we were here? But it sure was! We started with grilled prawns, which were enormous, Rhum House Spritz, and I ordered the Jamaican mango escovitch black grouper while RJ ordered the broiled black grouper with lime butter. The food was phenomenal; the Rhum House is outstanding. We want to come back to stay on the property and work our way through the menu. Except I will just keep ordering the grouper. My bf and I came back here for date night and the service was unbelievably bad. I wanted to leave and go somewhere else but my bf insisted we see how long it took for the bartender to acknowledge us. It took about 15 minutes for him to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink and then another 20/30 for him to make and give the drinks to us. In the meantime, he was walking around, cleaning glasses, talking with the servers, etc. ... no sense of urgency to take care of us -- not to mention they weren't busy. We were the only people seated at the bar. By the time our drinks came we were starving and decided we would stay to eat because we didn't want to drive elsewhere and waste more time. We ordered the shishito peppers, the tapioca fried octopus, and the kale Caesar salad. The only dish that was good was the octopus, so much so that we ordered another one. The peppers were not even charred and had zero flavor. The salad had a weird taste from the dressing. This was such a let down from the last time we came. We enjoyed our visit to Rhum House on Grassy Key. Ambiance: lots of attention to detail went into the decor. We felt like we were aboard a luxury cruise ship while sitting at the bar. It is a very inviting space, and upstairs, they have another bar with a fantastic view of the water. It was windy, so we opted for inside. Service: Erich was our bartender, and he was great! My husband loved his cocktails, especially the espresso martini. Food: We shared a Caesar salad and the bison tenderloin. I loved the fried plantains on the salad, and our tenderloin was cooked perfectly. I forgot to snap a pic. We saved room for some bread pudding, and it did not disappoint. We saw the chef passing by and thanked him for his beautiful creations. Our bill came in a tiki cocktail book-clever. We are Marathon residents and have dined here 3 times. Tonight, our third time will be our LAST. They bill themselves as "Matathons Premier Dining Experience " however they most certainly are not. I ordered the "premium ribeye special " at 85.00 should have been excellent, it was not! My steak was bland, tasted like it was previously frozen, and served bare on a plate with NO presentation whatsoever. My wife had the black grouper and in the 15 years we lived here it was the first time she had to use a knife to cut it! At almost 300.00 for two people one deserves an enjoyable, tasty and excellent dining experience. The inside dining room was extremely noisy, service was rushed and the food mediocre at best. There are many other great restaurants in Marathon, this used to be one of them but they have fallen way off that chart. read more

The Rhum House ambience is great! They have a beautiful indoor dining and a covered patio with a great ocean view! We opted to sit outside as we went around 615, so the weather was perfect at this time (not too hot)! We were greeted right away when we arrived and our server was very nice and attentive. The menu isn't huge and is different than most keys restaurant options. My husband started with 6 raw oysters and I did the key west pink shrimp cocktail. The key west pinks are always a good choice and are nice and plump! For our entrees we shared the scallops and the snapper. Both were just okay, I really was not impressed and honestly didn't eat much of either. The food presentation was nice! Scallops entree came with 3 large scallops over a corn polenta ($40), I did enjoy the polenta but the scallops lacked flavor and were honestly under cooked in the middle. The snapper entree actually was a decent size fish and had sounded very good/flavorful on the menu but the flavor of the dish/fish was underwhelming. The brussels sprouts were good. We did get the chocolate croissant bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which I did really enjoy. I would like to start this review by saying that the food was exceptional. Unfortunately, it took over an hour to get to us and was spaced out in an incredibly bizarre fashion. They sent several items out randomly and gave our drinks to the wrong table. Supposedly they had a system error and presented us with a check that was significantly less than the amount that was run on our credit card. On top of that, the manager was incredibly dismissive to any feedback and rude towards the female guests at our table, speaking over them instead of listening to the feedback they were trying to give. The restaurant was beautiful but spending two and a half hours waiting for food and drinks. I would have been happy to explain our concerns if we were allowed to instead of being dismissed, but unfortunately that was not the case. I sincerely hope the restaurant can turn around their front of house staff, because the food was excellent. read more

Visited the Rhum House last Friday for dinner with a couple of friends. It is pretty new, so it was all our first visit. First impression of Grassy Flats resort and Beach Club was clean and fresh nostalgic throwback to the updated slightly larger than boutique resort. To rooftop bar is comfortably spread out with plenty of warm breezy ocean views. Short bar menu offers a great (albeit small) grilled octopus. The Rhum House restaurant wasn't too busy at 7pm. The decor is nautical theme with tables 270 degrees around a center bar, and looks brand new. The service was very attentive and shared all their personal favorites for us to consider. Their homemade bacon bourbon smoked old fashion cocktail was a highlight. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals and gave compliments to the chef: salad with grilled chicken, Caesar salad with blackened shrimp, beef filet mignon, and flank steak. All cooked to the correct temperature. Special mention about the amazing grilled cauliflower side. Didn't have the room to try any dessert ... this time. read more

We've been wanting to try Rhum House for some time and we will definitely be back. We are locals and always looking for a high quality dining experience. It is a beautiful spot with a well appointed dining room with tables and bar seats. We sat on the veranda and the breeze and fans were perfect even though it was a very hot evening. Our server Rachel was fantastic, more impressive as it was her first day at Rhim. I had an aperol spritz that was wonderful with slices of blood orange and my husband had a nice white wine. For appetizer we shared the crab cake and the burnt ends. First, both were HUGE. The crab cakes were served in 3 large "hush puppy" size portions, with almost pure crab lightly breaded and fried, served with a nice chipotle mayo. Delicious. And I'm a crab cake snob. . The burnt ends was a large portion as well and delicious with the bbq sauce and charred pineapple. It was too much for the two of us but we managed. For our entrees my husband had the NY strip and I had black grouper blackened with the beurre blanc sauce. Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. The strip came with charred brussel sprouts which were fantastic. The asparagus and goat cheese mash was wonderful with my fish. My fish was clearly fresh and wonderful. For dessert we shared the bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and it was to die for. Cinnamon bread pudding (think Cinnabon) with a cream sauce and vanilla ice cream. Way way good. We sadly didn't have time to try the rooftop bar but it is gorgeous and we can't wait to come back for one of their awesome craft cocktails. Just a couple of notes for context. We are from NYC/NJ and have extremely high expectations. We were highly anxious but very pleasantly surprised. What a delightful and beautiful place. I'm staying in the hotel so I wanted to just have a light meal before bed to go and so glad I chose to walk down rather than drive somewhere to eat. Nikko is a pleasure to talk with and has a delicious menu! He speaks with passion about the food and that speaks volumes of the vibe. The entire staff was so friendly & accommodating. Although I only got a salad and a side of broccolini the salad was Delicious! The blackened shrimp were surprisingly filling, (I am a very light eater to be clear), and the combination of fruits and greens with warmed goat cheese was perfect. Simple dressing and a toasted side of bread, the perfect light meal for a beachside evening. The restaurant is open to the public and the view is spectacular. We dined here for our 27 year anniversary based on the recommendation of our realtor. Our server Olivia and the staff were great, very friendly and it seemed they all worked well together. However, this is the first anniversary where we dined at a nice restaurant where nothing was offered, not even a card celebrating our special occasion. The food was ok but some of the menu items were very high priced. We recommend you honor these occasions and put a celebratory card and offer complimentary wine or dessert as people celebrate their special time with you. You should also get bug fans for outside so that guests are not constantly swatting flies while they're eating their fancy meals. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR $!!! After arriving at rum house yesterday for sunset, based on rave reviews from our friends, we were most disappointed. We arrived to learn the top deck was closed but could get drinks at the bar. We stood at the bar for 15 minutes before being acknowledged even though there were about five empty seats at the bar and the restaurant was half full. The bartender ignored us and the manager Joe finally approached us and asked if we were eating dinner. We said we are going to eat dinner but we're gonna have a drink and sunset first shall we make a reservation he said you'll be fine and walked away from the bar. No no service after another 10 minutes. Joe comes back and asked us for our order. We give them a simple four drink order of 2 Cosmos 2 vodka sodas splash cran. Joe proceeded to the other side of the bar and input the order into a computer, which took him another five minutes due to multiple interruptions while the bartender emptied the dishwasher and hand dried each glass. Finally, the bartender brought our drinks to us with the bill for $72 which we paid along with a generous tip! One undrinkable cosmo needed to be returned for a vodka soda. We questioned the bill at $18 a drink and Joe informed us that is due to their customary 2 ounce pours. I learned later that not one drink on the menu was close to $18 and called the restaurant to speak to Joe. I was told he was unreachable upstairs and is out of communication with no way to reach him. She would leave a note for him to call me which of course he never did! My friends were so apologetic as this experience was so deplorable that we would never go back. I would suggest that no one waste their time or money visiting the Rhum house. read more
