We've been coming here every year when we visit for dinner. This year was very disappointing. The service was slow and not up to par for this high end place. The staff were hard to find and not well trained. We had the $80 "8 oz" filet that was not good at all. A poor cut and barely 6 oz's. Chicken was very good. Food is incredibly bland and overpriced for breakfast. Avocado toast didn't come with the balsamic glaze and the server said it's not supposed to. I had to show her the menu. To have the best sunset views, you must reserve your seats. They have indoor and outdoor dinning. They give complimentary champagne for to toast to the sunset. We ordered the Keys Pinks and Lobster pasta, very delicious! Portion is big and you will have left overs. The seasoning and flavor was amazing. My other half had the Ships: Skiff, 6 oysters, 6 jumbo shrimps, tuna tartar and fish dip. Service was amazing and everyone was extremely friendly. Heads up - they charge for parking at ths restaurant, unless you spend at least $150. Two of us didn't spend quite that much so they charged us $15 for their mandatory valet parking. Food was good, setting nice, but plenty of other places on Key Largo have similar food, and we haven't come across any others that charge for parking. We felt gouged and won't go back. read more

Nothing mind blowing but had nice flavors and I felt very healthy eating it. Also ordered the fruit platter to go. The menu says it comes with coconut shavings and honey lime dressing, but mine did not. The tropics fruits were fresh and delicious. Wish they added more dragon fruit and star fruit. This restaurant in beautiful bakers cay is amazing. If you are not staying inside the resort you can always call ahead to make a reservation which allows you to tour the beautiful hotel and visit the mezcal bar downstairs as well! I love to go on Sundays to help wind down the weekend with 20$ bottomless mimosas and the calusa omelette. Not to mention the view of the ocean is ridiculously gorgeous. They always have a Caribbean band playing to help mellow you out. This is a must if you are looking for a great brunch with a view! They are very kid friendly but I wish there was a ramp to take down the baby stroller to the bottom floor. It's only a few steps though so really not a big deal! Plenty of room for stroller parking, plenty of high chairs available, and kids menu is available as well. read more

The food here was so so. My husband and I shared a lox and bagel plate. Strangely, it didn't come with cream cheese. But we were able to request it. But I've just never ordered lox in a bagel that never came with cream cheese. The coffee is strong, not necessarily bad, but definitely for my taste, I needed some cream. My daughter ordered the French toast. That was actually really tasty. It came with fresh berries and berry puree. As per usual, I ate her left overs, lol. Service was good with most of the staff. My husband and I had our wedding ceremony at Bakers Cay Resort so we had dinner at Calusa the first day we stayed there. It was delicious with gorgeous views. At 5PM when the sun sets, they bring you a glass of champagne. It was a beautiful experience. We also came here for brunch on Sunday before our wedding and I ordered the crab Bennies and it was really good. I highly recommend this place. Dinner tonight was excellent. I can definitely recommend Calusa!! All seafood dishes were prepared perfectly, well seasoned. Excellent complementary sauces that didn't overpower, just accented the fish. So good! My husband said the coffee was top notch. Desserts were all housemade, even the mango pineapple sorbet, and were delicious. You must have a reservation to go here. Kudos to the gate guy for being so nice to us about this! I had tried to call with the number on Yelp, but it's a generic resort phone tree without a specific option for Calusa. I didn't think it was right, so hung up. I guess you have to get the front desk and ask for a transfer, so just fyi. I was able to make a res at the gate with Open Table, but that was glitchy and weird...it did eventually work for me and we were good to go. 20% gratuity is added to your bill. This is mentioned on the menu and highlighted on your dinner ticket. I felt they earned it, and we added extra. Buyer beware. They add 20% service charge to every check no matter what you order, and they don't highlight it so you could easily double tip. That being said, the service was good and friendly. The kitchen was quick with our breakfast order even though we were the only ones eating at the time. We really enjoyed the 2 breakfast sandwiches. Warning: The portions are very big and very sharable between 2 people. The Bakers Brunch Burger is much like a hangover burger found on other menus. It was tasty, and I was able to trade out the American cheese for Swiss cheese. The Breakfast Cuban mix was full of fresh shredded pork, but it needed some extra hot sauce to give it a more Cuban taste. The fresh russet potato chips were so good that I ate every last chip on my plate. This is the higher end restaurant on the Bakers Cay property, and it is very nice yet very casual, too. This is a great spot to get dinner if you are staying at the hotel. They provide a glass of champagne during sunset which was lovely. The view is incredible if you sit on the balcony, this was honestly my favorite part. The service was good as well. My husband got the steak and potato's and loved it! I got the fish and it was very good just a tad salty for my liking but I am very sensitive to salt. But overall, great experience and food was good. Very nice hotel and restaurant to match it. We made reservations for this place. This is the only restaurant on the property where you don't have to be a hotel guest to dine at. Appetizers were very well done, and good on the eyes . Plenty of flavor in every dish . Main courses were good as well . Plenty of choices from seafood to meat dishes. Table scan menu was available for COVID precautions. StAff was masked up as well . Full service bar and a decent wine list! We opted to pay 25 cork fee and brought our own. Outdoor seating is available with views of bay and sunsets. ****On a side note after dinner go down to tequila bar!! Very nice Glad we tried this restaurant, impressed to say the least however its a one and done for us, I didn't feel like we were away due to large south Miami crowds who came in late and loud. The service was poor, food was fair and ambience not what one expected for the price they charge not to mention automatic 20% which to be honest since servers likely get it there is no incentive to work for their tip. We got seated waiting a while to get menu, they never brought us bread we had to ask. Server came to check on us only once after they took forever on our drinks. The restaurant was not busy at all. Calusa is one of the restaurants at the Bakers Cay resort. It is situated on the back side so you can get a nice view of the water. We came here for breakfast on our last day of our stay. Hostess at us down and quickly got some waters to our table. Everyone is wearing masks and they are distancing between tables so we felt pretty safe from that aspect. After a quick glance of the menu, we opted to the Eggs Benedict and the Crunchy French toast. So let me start by saying...WOW this food was AMAZING! The eggs Benedict had really good home made hollandaise on top at the the home fries it came with were just as good. It didn't stop there, the French toast came with this jam/compote on top along with strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. It was so good that you didn't even need to put any syrup on top. I highly recommend those two dishes if you decided to eat breakfast here. All in all we really enjoyed our meal and will be eating here again in the future whenever we are staying at Bakers Cay. read more

As the main restaurant of Baker's Cay hotel, Calusa is located in a truly stunning and romantic setting, overlooking the coastal forests, ocean and mangroves in the distance. Reservations can be made for outside guests or those staying at the hotel. It also serves as the main breakfast restaurant on the property. The experiences at Calusa varied widely, but being here for Memorial Day, certain challenges are understandable given that many businesses are still trying to recover their staff from the pandemic. In general, breakfasts and brunches are decent, but certainly not notable. Avocado toast is good, but one of the days, came out with a layer of avocado as thin as mayonnaise on a sandwich. On another day, the lobster Benedict was composed of highly over cooked lobster. Basics like American breakfast are better executed. One of the dishes also indicated to be served topped with kaluga caviar, but instead was brought out with cheap fish roe. I mean, I didn't expect them to bring out Kaluga caviar on a dish that costs under $30 in the first place, but the advertising was misleading on the menu and will probably fool many local guests who have never tried caviar (hint: kaluga is one of the most expensive caviar varietals out there). The dinner experience was better. The snapper was quite tasty. Certainly not the best, but good. The bang bang calamari was probably the highlight and absolutely spectacular, with a perfect amount of spice and delicious batter. Another highlight on the dinner menu is the poke tuna. The service on the 6+ visits across Memorial Day weekend was very subpar. The hosts are far from friendly and don't manage their table availability well. The employees although all nice, were unable to keep up with the demand and resulted in extremely slow service. All around, Calusa is not a bad restaurant and given that it's one of two nicer restaurants in Key Largo (with the other being in Autograph Collection hotel), it is not a horrible choice as long as expectations are right. In my view, a restaurant like this would not last two months in any city due to the variety of problems, but that's irrelevant and they are quite lucky to have such a location. Ps. Having champagne by the glass would also be a nice touch. read more

Our waiter was very nice and friendly and offered helpful recommendations. We had the scallop dish and filet mignon cooked medium. Both were delicious and flavorful with beautiful presentation. The bearnaise sauce that came with the filet, however, was too heavy and tasted more like mayonnaise--needs improvement. honestly, I dont mean to be pessimistic as most of my reviews are on the more positive side, but I just felt like Calusa was a bit of a let down. With these exorbitant prices and the resort itself being upscale, I expected these dishes to be otherworldly. To my dismay, the ricotta appetizer and mahi mahi entree were mediocre at best. Luckily, our waiter was so kind and patient with my party along with a great tasting old fashioned! Located at Baker's Cay resort in Key Largo, Calusa serves up breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Much like the other restaurant on property, it has both indoor and outdoor dining areas, including some tables with ocean views. We visited for breakfast twice, and it was decent both times with friendly service. The omelet (3.5/5) was decent, with your choice of 3 ingredients, a side of potatoes or fruit, and choice of toast or english muffin. The avocado toast (2/5) was subpar, and tasted like day old toast was served. Oatmeal (3/5) was decent with plenty of fresh ingredients. Both the pancakes and waffles (both 2.5/5) were very average run of the mill recipes without any particular quality to set them apart from those you'd find at a diner. Prices were on the high side, but typical of resort pricing, with the final bill really adding up with a set 20% service charge. Overall, breakfast at Calusa was a very average affair in a nice setting convenient to hotel guests, but not memorable enough for a recommendation otherwise. read more
