I bought a crumb apple pie from them last week. It was probably the worst apple pie that I have ever eaten. The crust fell apart and the pie became mush. The filling was decent, but not great. My main issue was with the crust. Not only did it fall apart, but it also had a cardboard flavored aftertaste. The crumb topping was also terrible. It was flavorless, and gross. The fact that I paid $15 for this pile is the worst part about it. I can get a grocery store pie (which is what I did for Xmas) for half the price. read more

My wife decided to try this establishment because she passing by it daily. Looking up the overall review score (which at the time of writing this was 4 out of 5 stars) and seeing the pictures she thought it would be a nice treat. We both enjoy pies, her favorites are tart so she wanted to get a slice of their key lime. My favorite is usually a good cheesecake but I often try the pumpkin or pecan if they have it. They have a Saturday special (six slice variety) which she ordered. The variety consisted of key lime, pumpkin, pecan derby, cheesecake, traditional peach and apple. To start, ALL of the pies tasted like they were made with canned products that had sat open for days. All pies were flat, the crust was thin and barely there. For the pies that did present some semblances of crust I could describe it as a mush instead of a flaky buttery texture that most would come to expect. The key lime was said to taste a bit metallic, which usually happens when you add too much lime flavoring and is very off putting. The pumpkin did not taste like pumpkin nor did it look as such. If I had to explain the taste I would say cinnamon and cardamom. The filling in the pecan derby was very clearly from a can. At least it had whole candied pecans, which you don't normally put on that pie. The cheesecake (if I can call it that) had strawberries and some sort of gelatinous sauce? on top that I have never seen before. I am used to seeing some sort of strawberry sauce on top, maybe even lemon a curd. The cheesecake was not firm. The traditional peach and apple (mind you two different pies) both tasted overly sweet and from a can. I could've gotten the same thing from Dennys for cheaper. For $5 dollars a slice, from a place that only makes pies I would've expected a little better. read more

I saw a post on FB about fresh boysinberry pies yesterday...I have been in AZ 8 months and love great pie...have tried over 7 establishments looking for flaky crust, not too sweet full bodied fruit filling. Up until now I have been SO disappointed. I went by after an appointment at 5 today thinking to try a slice of several if available or at most a small individual pie. Instead I bought not only a full sized boysinberry, but a white chocolate with a fresh cooked raspberry filled pie enrobed In REAL whipped cream! Yum! At the last moment I decided to add a small uncooked frozen chicken pot pie for a future meal. My son and I had a small taste if each of the fruit pies and will never go anyplace else. Thanksgiving desert may be every week! Flakiest crust ever and the fruit filling was just sweet enough to make berries pop. I live alone and hard pressed to comprehend my over the top order with no company planned, but I kid you not all I can think about is what pies to try NEXT. The boysinberry is so reminiscent of Knots Berry Farm that I worry I will not find it offered again after this week...will it freeze if I return for another just in case. I highly recommend your trying the offerings at this bakery...they were out of rolls...have hot and frozen meat pies. Also cheesecakes by preorder. Quiche also. Not the price of substandard grocery pies from freezer or bakery...but even on a fixed retirement...I find it amazing that I DON'T CARE! I wanted to give this a 5 star rating but....we were given the wrong pies. We ordered 6 green chili pork pies. Our mouth were watering for them. We ordered 2 pies for memorial day weekend special order. My grandparents picked them up and got home and they were 2 totally different pies then we had ordered. We were eating our meal then opened them up to cut them when we realized they were wrong. One was a peanut butter which if we had known would have kept it in the fridge untill ready to eat. But thinking it was the rhubarb we had ordered we left it on the table. So not only was it wrong it was like pudding when we opened it. But it was dessert time and we we wanted it for the familly dinner. My grandparents went back to the store the next day with pictures to prove what we and gotten to get a replacment or refund for the inconvenience and the manager was a complete bitch to them and argued that since we didn't return them she wasn't going to replace them, instead of apologizing and making ammends for the error. I get it , they gave us 2 pies. But they were wrong and there was a special meaning behind the rhubarb pie we ordered. They shouldn't have argued with an elderly couple who clearly was not trying to scam them just wanted what they had originally ordered. So in the end they argued enough to get then replaced but what an ordeal and poor customer service. read more

My family and I absolutely love the pies here! We have had 3 different pies so far and if I have to choose a favorite btwn them so far I would pick the banana cream. I have been here multiple times, this place is great! I went to the Grand opening and tasted all the pies. Although my favorite are the cream pies I love all the fruit pies as well. We moved to Mesa in August 2013 and we first tried their apple pie when my neighbors dropped one off at our house. SO, SO GOOD! Then my family came in for Thanksgiving and we ordered four pies for dinner. We were invited over to some friends' house for Christmas dinner and I asked my husband to stop by before work on Christmas Eve to get a pie. He did not... he waited until he got off work at 3:45pm. Well, they closed at 2pm :(... BUT, when he drove up he saw the owner's husband coming out the door. He told my husband they were closed and my husband didn't have any cash so he turned away, disappointed. But, the man at the door ended up giving my husband a pie in the spirit of generosity and Christmas. They have definitely gained a customer for life from us! I found this place using Yelp and Google. It is a gem of a store both for its absolutely lovely pies and the helpful employees. The pictures of the pies in their website do not do them justice...the pies are fabulous in person. We needed pies before Thanksgiving and I just didn't have time to bake them this year. We decided to give them a try and we had absolutely no trouble picking up our pre-paid order. And they were promptly open at 7 am for the Thanksgiving rush with smiles on everyone's faces. It was all very organized picking up my pies. Their freshly baked rolls looked fabulous too so we picked up two bags of those also. On the way home, a bag of rolls got sampled, and they were so good and fresh. I wished I had some Irish butter to put on them at that moment. We will be visiting this place often and look forward to trying other flavors including their quiches. For our Thanksgiving this year we chose a Pecan and the Michigan Cherry. We made a 17 mile drive to Piefection because we wanted some special pies for Easter and because we wanted to support small business /wanted to try something new. We got a pumpkin pie and a chocolate cream pie. The pumpkin pie was alright, after we dethawed it until the next day! It was frozen-ice cold inside and we couldn't taste the flavor! It was like it was a pie from the day before and they just freeze it to sell it the next day. Aren't fresh pies what this place is aiming to sell?? The chocolate cream pie was terrible!! A whole lot of money for a literal crust filled with pudding. We could have bought pudding cups and dumped it into a pie crust and called it a pie from Piefection. Such a disappointment! You'd think paying $15-$20 per pie, and coming from a place specializing in pie places, they'd have a rich and creamy chocolate cream pie. We are so disappointed and what a waste of money. I've been a huge fan of piefection since they opened, I didn't visit for almost a year and going back the other week it seems as quality had taken a slight decline. Maybe as a baker myself I'm a little more picky. The savory pot pies are amazing! Absolutely worth every penny and they have them ready baked or frozen. As far as the slice's, whoever is cutting them seems you be a bit messy, whatever not a huge deal. On the last 3 slices I bought they all were a little disappointing. The crust on my lemon meringue was under baked and soggy, it was like a lemon curd soup with meringue on top. Next visit I got my favorite of theirs the Arizona orange! It is a great pie, however the eggs did not get tempered in properly and there was pieces of cooked egg which is super unappealing if you're eating a custard based pie. My last trip I was stoked to see the lilikoi pie, against the flavor is amazing! Second fav after the Arizona orange, but it also had bits of cooked egg. I'm all about supporting local business and I say this all with love. I'll definitely be back for the pot pies but at $5 a slice I hope the owner does some quality control. read more

My husband bought several pies for Christmas (8) from here, they were expensive but we heard they were worth it. Sadly we were very disappointed !! The crust is horrid, we had a mix between soggy crusts and ones that were so dusty dry they crumbled when you try to eat it. Stopped in on Saturday afternoon looking for a couple of pies for company that I was having on Sunday. I chose a Chocolate Cream and asked if they had any Apple. The young man went to check in the back when I hear a lady in the back yelling "I told you we only have what is up front" She was really yelling! I felt bad for the poor guy behind the counter. I ended up choosing a Triple berry pie instead, paid my bill, and vowed never to go back again. I have driven by several times and finally came to see what they had. What a great selection of pies and they have once a month slices for approx. $4-5 bucks. Whole pies go for around $13-17. The place is fairly new and very clean. We took a pie as a gift for someone and it was so hard to decide which kind to get. I love how they have fruit pies (peach, Michigan cherry, apple, triple berry) crumb or original crust with a cute little heart cut out in the middle. They also had a huge array of cream pies too......key lime, banana cream, coconut cream, pumpkin cheese cake, lemon meringue, just to name a few. They do have $1 off if you friend them on Facebook. They do charge extra for gift wrapping...basically a bow around the box. Anyhow, they had a bunch of kids working the counter, which were all still pretty new with what exactly they served and prices on certain items. the crust on their pies are just yum, and the consistency is just right. I do like their wide selection of fruit and cream pies. The Arizona Orange pie tastes like a creamsicle and I am a fan of both their blueberry and strawberry rhubarb pies. Sometimes I feel that it would be nice if they had more than one person out front, like someone to box up the pies and another to take orders. At times, waiting more than 10 minutes to buy a pie can be troublesome for a customer who might be in a hurry BUT the pies are worth it. There are some items that I wish I was aware of how to order beforehand like the no sugar pies. I was told by the sales associate that those pies have to be ordered ahead, and it seems they seem to not make a large batch of popular items for sale like their green chile pork pies. I just couldn't understand how they could be sold out when I was there an hour and a half after they had opened. Overall, it's a good pie shop and I recommend to all to try at least one pie. I have been following Piefection on Instagram for well over a year,and even though I only live a short 30-minute drive from the shop, I had never been. I read about today (10/3/15) being The Big Day when Piefection was serving samples of all their seasonal flavors, so my mom and I decided to have a date and go out there. The shop is small but adorable, decorated in pink, black, and white. A few small tables and chairs lined the exterior and the glass display cases showcased the gorgeous pies. A large blackboard hung on the wall behind the counter and listed all the flavors and prices. We were able to sample all the available flavors, which included two apple varieties (dutch and crumb, I believe), three pumpkin (sour cream, praline, and traditional), and salted caramel. I'm not a huge fan of apple pie, but they were both good. The traditional pumpkin was nice, but I didn't care for the sour cream. The two stand-outs were the pumpkin praline and salted caramel. We even purchased a whole of the former and a slice of the latter to bring home. While there we also split a slice of pecan which was good (the crust was amazing!) and bought individual chicken and green chile pot pies to enjoy at home (I tried the chicken and it's so good, if not a little underseasoned). Enjoy was the gal behind the counter and she was super friendly, and we also meet Cheryl (the owner) who stopped to talk with all the customers in the shop. I'm at once regretful and grateful that I don't live closer to this place, because I'd be there far too often. However, Mom and I already have a date to return next Saturday when they will have single slices of ALL the pies available for purchase. Can't wait! read more

The Cherry Sour Cream pie is the best pie I have ever had, period!

The reason I am giving them 3 stars is because I honestly do not like their pies, however my sisters love this place. Some of my friends seem to like their pies while others are with me. However what I do enjoy are there pot pies!! The pot pies are fantastic which is why I am not giving them 1 star I will keep coming back for their potpies. I have had most of their flavors, my favorites tend to be turkey, chicken, and their green chili. If you have t been here before and wanted to try their pie I would advise you look to see when they have their sale on pie slices so you can purchase a couple slices of pies to taste rather than a whole pie. read more

AWESOME!! My Son is attending Arizona State University in Mesa, AZ. He was turning 18 and we were unable to celebrate with him, since we live in Northern California. His favorite dessert is coconut cream pie. I called Piefection and talked with Cheryl. She was just AWESOME! She arranged to have the pie delivered the morning of his birthday. She tied a bow on the box along with a pie server and balloons. She even had a picture taken of him holding the arrangement and had it emailed to me! He told me it was one of the best coconut cream pies he has ever eaten and it was hugh! I will be forever grateful to Piefection for making his birthday special. It was honestly the best key lime pie I've ever eaten. Perfectly thick, tart, not too sweet, and the real whipped cream on top was flawless. My husband had the berry pie and loved it as well.
