I came to Pick Pockets based solely on yelp reviews, and I am disappointed to say that I wish I hadn't. First of all, the place is hard to find. I read that it was in the gas station plaza, but so is J's Deli and you can actually find that. This place doesn't even have its own sign, just writing on one window of the otherwise "Quick Mart". I should've went running the minute the man behind the counter pronounced gyro as jy-roe. We ordered two chicken gyros and a Greek salad and a side of fries. Unfortunately I guess 1pm on a Friday is the time to be cleaning your equipment, so we couldn't have fries- or anything that needed to go in the fryer for that matter. The people didn't really seem to care either, they were basically like "sucks to suck". Eventually we got our food and we were on our way. We take out the food from the bag once we arrive home, and there is literally lettuce from the Greek salad sticking out of the edges of the container. Gross. The salad itself is unlike any other Greek salad I've ever seen, the peppers were diced, the onions were white onions and were julienned, the feta was the weakest feta I've ever tasted- and it had pickles on it. Pickles on a Greek salad.... is this a Rhode Island thing???? The salad was pathetic. The dressing clearly wasn't house made at all, bottled dressing is wayyyy better than what they're serving. On top of the dressing being bland at best, they gave you about a quarter of the amount you would need if you actually want to eat this dismal salad. The lettuce in the salad was also sopping wet. The gyro was just fine. Barely good, but not bad. Super plain. Not even on the classic gyro flatbread (otherwise known as pocketless pita), it was literally on a wrap. This place is disappointing and SO inauthentic. Also, it's in a gas station, and I ignored this fact because people said "don't let the fact that this is in a gas station fool you"- it was doing no fooling. It is just as bad as I expect a gas station wannabe Mediterranean establishment to be. To the people that think this is good Mediterranean/Greek food: you need to get out more. I work down the street and have been stopping by here at least once a week for lunch for the past 2 years. The food is great, and Tony and the other people who work here are great, they give free homemade chips and salsa to you if you're eating there, and if you're a regular they know your order when you walk in the door. So so so good !! Cheap healthy food. I usually get grilled vegetables and they make them so tasty! I think about them all the time! One of the best tzakai sauces I have ever had. Don't let the location sway you. Yes, it is in a Shell gas station in the middle of no where. However, they have the best falafel wrap within at least 10 miles radius. Portion is also generous. I've had about 4-5 different food there and they were all good. Highly recommended. read more

I was leaving work this afternoon from Johnston and headed home to Woonsocket and was super craving falafel but didn't want to hike it to providence to get one. So I stumbled across pick pockets and it had good reviews and it was on my way home. Holy moly am I glad I came across this place. Hidden gem inside the shell station. The best falafel wrap I've had in years. All the topping you want inside. Fresh veggies, all the sauces you can think of. I saw they had whipped garlic and I was instantly sold! Best gas station food ever! Toppings are always fresh and made to your liking. Falafels are spiced just right. My favorite is when they have the fresh lamb and steak which is grilled right in front of you. Generally, I pick my own toppings and go all the way. In the end, the wraps can get to the size of a newborn for less then $10. I love the fresh mozzarella, feta, veggies and grilled tender lamb and steak. The mister and I were in the area and he's had great experiences with the food which he has ordered in the past from here. There were a lot of great options on the board for things to order. I decided to go with the Athena. There were supposed to be a ton of Veggies and some chicken in my roll up. It was pretty busy so the clerk behind the counter who was making it asked what I wanted it and I just told him nothing too fancy just how it's described on the board. So, he looks at the board for a little bit and tosses a bunch of stuff onto a pita and then starts cooking some chicken. Upon looking at my wrap a little closer it appeared to be missing half of the ingredients which it was supposed to have in there. I asked the person for the missing items and he said "we're out". Ok, not sure why he wouldn't have disclosed this before making my sandwich. If I had known that i'd have chosen something else. The phone orders began to pile up and I start to hear one man behind the counter muttering about how the order was for the guy who sold him a car and ripped him off so he was going to put all the less expensive ingredients on his dinner plate and salad as he continued to mutter to himself. I just don't understand where all these rave reviews are coming from. I encountered two overwhelmed people who were haphazardly applying the toppings and having them spill out on the counter and throwing these items away all the while muttering inappropriate things about other customers in front of me. This same person (who i believe was the manager) was clearing tables in the eating area and was picking up food from the floor to throw in the trash and not changing his gloves after. Although the limited staff try their best and are good at moving people along, on some days you can wait a while to get your food. Sometimes, they mess up your order when you're paying. I absolutely love this place! The first time I came here I was hooked but foolishly only gave it 4 stars...what was I thinking. I keep trying new things and have loved every one of them. The only downside of trying the new items is I feel like I am cheating on my old favorites because they are so delicious and have always treated me so well. Add reasonable prices and a friendly, fun, and generally awesome staff this place is the perfect place to grab a quick lunch. I recommend eating over a table and not eating in your car. You're going to walk in here not expecting much, seeing as this is located in a gas station convenience store, but get over that, because the food here is fantastic, the portions are huge, and the people working the grill and counter are full of personality (especially Tony, who tends to call everyone "Boss"). The menu is largely Greek / Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern, but they've gotten a little more Western in their selection as time has passed, so even if things like falafel, hummus, eggplant, lamb, or gyros aren't your thing, you'll still find something to enjoy. That being said, their falafel is the best I've ever had, and I could eat their hummus all by itself with a spoon. Bear in mind, though, that you'll only be able to get your wrap here... you want something to drink, you'll have to buy it from the convenience store itself. Also, if you get there and there's a line, be prepared to wait a while, as this is usually just a 1 or 2 person operation. It's always worth the wait, of course, but if you're on a tight schedule, plan accordingly. I usually get and highly recommend either the Works (falafel, hummus, tabouli, and as many veggies and sauces as you like) or the Chicken Falafel, but it's all good. read more

We came back for Christmas break & had come here 3 times!! I love The Works wrap!! They are very generous with the toppings & stuffing. They are also very friendly. The falafel is one of the most yummiest that I have tasted anywhere!! They have other wraps there, but I've only gotten the same thing every time I went. My teen loves the old fashion steak wrap. I used them to cater lunch for a group of 145 people and their recommendations for selections and amounts was spot on. The request was met in a timely manner and everything provided was beyond my expectations- fresh, full of flavor and plentiful. It was by far the best value and service I have received from a caterer. Their easy, no fuss approach to catering made my task so much easier and the food was a major hit with my international crowd. This place is absolutely phenomenal. Everytime I go veggies and meat are always fresh everything is made to order. The cooks in Cashiers are extremely friendly and always remember your name. When my friends first told me about this place, all I thought was "Gas Station Greek? That's gross." How wrong I was! If you love lamb as much as I do, you'll absolutely love their Gyro. You basically get to create your own Gyro because you can put as many or as little toppings on it as you want. Not to mention, the people that work their are fantastic. The girl during the day amazingly remembered 8 people's orders without writing a thing down, and got everyone's order 100%.
