Piazza D'Angelo catered an event I recently had and I was impressed with their service and food. The pre-event coordination was very smooth and they clearly/professionally handled any food and financial questions I had. The event went really well and I cannot compliment the food service enough. It was superb. The food was all high quality and it tasted wonderfully. They even individually labeled the lunch boxes with everyone's name on it. It looked extremely professional and really eased everyone finding their lunch. I've been to Piazza D'Angelo for lunch, dinner and drinks various other times. Our hotel Acqua in Mill Valley made us reservations here since the owners of the hotel also own this restaurant. The gave us a very nice table right in front of a beautiful fireplace. Unfortunately we roasted through dinner. After being talked into the soup of the day, a vegetable medley we regretted it. It was like cut up veggies in hot water. There was no flavor. At all. Our entree's were better but not stellar. I had the mushroom risotto which was bland and not really all that creamy and my husband the clam/shrimp over pasta. Unfortunately he found a large chunk of clam shell in his dinner. The house white wine was pretty good though. I could deal with the so-so food but my biggest problem was the layout of the restaurant overall. We were packed in there like sardines!! My husband and I scooted all the way into the fireplace where we were sweating all the way through dinner but we had to because we were seated in one of the main aisle ways and had to tuck our elbows in at all times! I was so close to the next table I could touch it! They needed to rearrange their layout of remove a few tables! And our tiny table for two didn't even have room for salt and pepper on the table. Overall they got three stars for the excellent waitstaff and complementary valet parking!!! The hosts were friendly and nice. The location was in the heart of downtown Mill Valley and very cute. Stay away from this place. We dine out all the time and while we had heard not so good reviews we decided to try it out for ourselves. What a mistake! Owners are full of of themselves and customer service is not within their vocabulary. For a small town restaurant were word of mouth is everything it is surprising! The owners are too arrogant to care! Needless to say we will never be back and we will encourage everyone who listens never to set foot in this place. The only way we can make them understand is by not eating there. Unfortunately the staff suffers but maybe they should leave too! Service was good. However, we showed up early, wanted to grab a couple drinks while we waited. I waited 10 minutes to order and when I told the bartender, Tyler, that a couple of our people were running a bit late, he replied "I hope they dont come" I asked him "are you joking?" His reply, "no, I wanna go home". Everything else was ok. However the angry dude with the glasses behind the bar that just started kinda ruined my night. I LOVE Piazza D'Angelo!! My parents and I stumbled upon this great Italian restaurant while delivering flowers in the bay area. We walked into a completely packed house, but they were still able to seat us right away and NOT next to the kitchen, so nice! The food here is excellent. The bread service is yummy and has several kinds of bread, including a fantastic focaccia and one of the best dipping sauces I've ever had at a restaurant (EVOO and some kind of herb mixture, so good). The pasta entrees range from $13-17, a great deal for such a unique and tasty selection. I had the ravioli with butternut squash drizzled with a balsamic vinegar reduction...it was the perfect blend of sweet and savory AND the perfect portion size. My mom ordered the ravioli stuffed with pears, shallots, and asparagus, and although I preferred my meal, hers was tasty as well. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our waiter was especially nice and made some great meal recommendations, including his dessert suggestion of the lemon cookie which was a citrusy, tart, perfect end to a great meal. If I could give Piazza D'Angelo 6 stars, I would. The food was out of this world and the atmosphere was so much fun, they even had old classic black and white films projected onto the walls! Since we went to eat here with someone who is good buddies with the owner, we got the good stuff when it came to the appetizers. We had a bunch of cold cut meats (prosciutto, salami, etc) and various cheeses that I wasn't too familiar with. They were not stuff that they had on the menu so that was nice of them. Their foccacia bread with the pesto sauce was addicting too. For dinner, I tried the Tagliolini Gamberi E Vongole, which was this interesting thick spaghetti-like pasta with clams and shrimp in this light olive oil sauce. Portions were perfect and the flavors were great. You know it's good pasta when it's freshly made and when the pasta dishes are not drenched in sauce. I had a taste of their Margherita Pizza and that was simple, but satisfying. Of course, we left room for dessert. We had the lemon creme brulee and their tiramisu. The creme brulee was a little too tart for me, but the tiramisu was the BEST I've ever had. I could have eaten that on my own without sharing! read more

We were in Mill Valley on an errand, and were hungry enough that we decided to scoop the loop and see if something stuck out as a good spot to try for dinner. It was colder than we thought though, and Piazza D'Angelo looked warm and had not wait, so we gave it a shot. We bellied up to the bar and each got a glass of wine to start. Service at the bar was prompt and attentive throughout our entire meal, without being TOO attentive. Bonus: they keep a current copy of your receipt/bill in a glass right in front of you, so you can checkout whenever you want, without having to flag someone down. Hubby got a pizza and I got a pasta dish. Both were great, though hubby wished his pizza had a slightly crispier crust. We both saw quite a few things on the menu that sounded good to us, and we found the prices to be very reasonable. i wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but I'd certainly give it another shot if I find myself in Mill Valley again. read more

Roberto makes this restaurant my favorite go-to. Within walking distance of my home, I end up here about once a week with my son and normally with a friend/family member in tow. From everything to atmosphere, authenticity, and ambiance Piazza D'Angelo is awesome! We sat close by the bar, but did not find it noisy. My wife and I were vacationing in the area and we really enjoyed the visit. My wife ate the pizza and I had the Capellini Pomodoro and Pollo (Rosemary Chicken). Both excellent. The Capellini was very flavorful with tomatos and basil. It was incredible! The pasta was al dente. Everything was cooked extremely well and you have to try it! As for the Pollo...wow. It was complately engulfed in an incredible aroma of rosemary. It was warm and steamed throught. I ate the whole piece of chicken. The vegetables were incredible including the carrots! At the end after the bread, chicken, and pasta...we decided not to get dessert. Next time for sure we will be back with our child since it is very kid friendly! Thanks, Michael S. read more

Great venue for having a large event at. The food was great and there was a large selection to choose from. The staff was helpful. Parking is somewhat limited, there is a small parking lot in the back of the building. The restaurant is somewhat accessible with the exception of some stairs. We've been dining at this restaurant for many years. Quality of food in our most recent visit last week was sadly suspect. Under-seasoned pasta, pizza margarita was shadow of what it once was (flavorless with uninspired dough/crust). Wish it was still great, but something is wrong. Had pizza at the Federalist Public House in mid-town Sacramento the day before and their pizza is far more inspired. Hope PD'A regains past glory. read more

So almost a year to the day of my last visit I ate here last night with my family and a few friends. Always busy, which doesn't surprise me given the look of the place. I stand by my previous comments - the food, service and wine list are very average/spotty at best and expensive for what it is. I've never had a real bad meal here but again never had a must return meal. The one major addition was service this time was a big fat goose egg. We arrived at 6PM and finally got out at 7:45PM, the reason we were there so long was the wait! Our waitress was disconnected leaving long pauses when we needed her - wine, water, bread, food... When our main course came for the six of us we got - 2 of the six; a few minutes later we got a third; five minutes later our fourth and fifth dishes and finally another five minutes the sixth dish (for my 7 year old) who we had to feed pieces of our meals - oh and her dish was pasta with butter and cheese. The manager then came back to say the problem wasn't his it was a backed up kitchen and we should be more understanding of a busy kitchen. Oh and the food - My wife's dish was stone cold and inedible, which she rejected. My chicken was dry right through and our calamari app was absolutely flavorless. My daughter's pasta was uncooked, not al dente just all raw! They eventually covered my wife's meal, WOW, and one bottle of wine. BTW - THERE IS NO KIDS MENU, nor do they really cater for kids. That's just plain DUMB. No longer even worth a visit once a year, can't imagine really recommending the spot to anyone; Marin has many more better family restaurants. read more

I had drinks here and it was just-okay. The bar area is well lit (not dim and moody) and has small tables by the window. The bar selection was pretty good, but they only had one beer on draft. I've eaten here at least 8 times and each time my waiter was great, and very accommodating of my Paleo diet. If want them to swap something out and put in another food they'll happily do it for me - which these days is becoming rare. You can't go wrong with their meat dishes like the roasted chicken, or if they have it, lamb. I like that on the way to the lady's I can peek into the kitchen. Good wine list. It's a very quiet adult like place to eat - which I appreciate. They don't cater to kids or so-called hipsters. read more

Today was the 3rd time that I've been to Piazza D'Angelo. All 3 times horrible, SLOW service bordering on non-existent! Only go if you have a lot of time on your hands. I was hesitant to go there but it had been awhile since I had my last bad service experience there and I was with a friend who wanted to go there. Upon leaving I ask the older hostess if she had quarters for the meter (as the meters are old and only accept coins) She says "No, I don't, the bar might but I don't". Umm, hello?!?! Lady, I didn't mean on you specifically. You are the hostess. You could offer to take my money to the bar and bring back quarters. No customer service from her. The food was good though. Pizza D'Angelo is really nothing special. Although the food was decent, nothing really stands out about it. Service was really lacking. Our salad and soup plates were still on the table when our entrees were served and since the wait staff had their hands full, we had to hold our plates out of the way while the placed our entrees. In addition, drink glasses went empty for long periods of time. They also have packed too many tables in. One of our party was constantly being bumped when the waiters walked between our table and the one next to us on the way to the kitchen. (There were other routes available.) Week nights are probably best since it is quieter. On weekend nights, the bar turns into "Desperate Divorcees." read more

The soft summer evening found us in Mill Valley, California, having dinner with our daughter and son-in-law, and our nephew-the-big-time-chef who was in the area on business. Really. He was. It was a serious buying trip with the photos to prove it - in the lettuce fields of California. There are a lot of places to go, but last minute ideas tend to mean you'll be aced out of some of the choice spots - in this case, the fall-back was a winner. Piazza D'Angelo is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the area, and one that I've written about before. The photo (on my blog, alas ) is my Branzino with seasonal vegetables and yes, those are edible flowers. Branzino, also known as Barramundi, is one of those fish that I would love to love. If I could find a place that could prepare it. Problem solved - Piazza D'Angelo did a smackdown job. This was not just beautiful to look at, but absolutely delicious. The vegetables were the best possible supporting players - each hitting the right notes as strong ensemble players. The fish, roasted, was perfect - all tender inside a crispy skin. The service at Piazza D'Angelo is always top-notch. Our server on this evening was an attractive young woman with a charming Italian accent, who seemed to capture our mood right away. She recommended the special pizza as a starter, and it was scrumptious. I don't remember there being any left on the platter. Yes, there were edible flowers on the pizza, too. Normally, I see this in restaurants and consider it either an annoying conceit, or a gimmick designed to divert my attention from sub-par food. Not in this case. The Chive blossoms really added to the whole - which included some savory anchovies. The crust didn't have too much char, but just enough. It was thin crust in the best tradition. We inhaled this Caprese style salad with house made Burrata cheese - which seems to be the rage in so many Italian places these days. The only reason this didn't get a 5 star rating? The less than ripe sliced tomatoes. But, on the whole we snagged every last bite, bathed in a basil infused olive oil and a drizzle of chili oil. In fact, there was a bite left when the waitress tried to retrieve the nearly empty plate, but Robert was quicker than she was. Their salmon is call "organic farmed" and our waitperson said it was a healthy alternative to wild. Don't be fooled. To use this name is hiding the facts of what it really is. I grew up in Mill Valley and D'Angelos has been a staple of the community for a very long time. The owners raised their families here. Occasionally you can catch Carlos Santana sitting down for a bite to eat, too! For our family, we used to come here for birthday dinners and it's one of the places we take guests out when they came in from out of town. The food has always been consistently good, a few of my favorites: Tortelloni Della Casa, Margherita Pizza, Pollo and sometimes just a chicken cesar salad with vinaigrette to go. First time here with a lot of friends. I ordered the Burrata and the Veal. Both were very good. The reason for the 3 stars is the service is very lacking. EVERYTHING I had to ask for especially the refills of ice tea. We were a party of 9 so you would think they would have 2 servers at least but I just saw one guy and a Bus person that's all. There were a few of us that ordered ice tea and again you would think they would be more attentive to the refills but no. You would think that in Mill Valley the service would be top notch but I think this is why they have such poor reviews. Even though the food was good the service needs to be there too especially with the high prices. Doubt we will be going back. Too many other choices to put up with bad service. read more

Some highs, some lows, but the word of the day is "bland." The chef needs some work on adding spices, acid, flavor. The bean-pasta soup, swordfish, and ravioli all come to mind in this department. The fritto misto was delicious, perfectly cooked morsels of fried shrimp, calamari, and artichoke. It was served with a delectable basil aioli. I could have bathed in the stuff! Dessert was a super berry sorbet with awesome biscotti. Mixologist poured a mean cocktail, the Petrusinu. The drink consisted of gin, st Germain, parsley syrup, and lime. Excellent! I hold back one star because we were seated on the patio, and although the gas heater was on, we were still freezing! We ordered a spinach and Gorgonzola salad for the 3 of us and not a leaf was left on the plate. My entree was the butternut squash ravioli and it was absolute perfection. I really didn't feel like going out. Saturday night, crowds, Tiger's game was on, and I am doing a month long cleanse, no sugar or sugar substitutes, gluten, soy, yeast, vinegar or alcohol. Doesn't leave a whole lot for a ristorante. We went and I must say I had a great night. The owner is so friendly. Our waiter brought out the chef, who then suggested a couple of items on the menu that would accommodate my restricted diet. Surprise Surprise they were exactly what I wanted. The tortolloni della casa is phenomenal. I also really love the pesto they serve with the bread, before the meal. So much classier than butter. Also classy: the outside patio when it's warm outside. It's very solid Italian food and has been consistently so for years now. Lovely tiramisu. They lose a star for having occasionally lousy service. Went there for lunch on Sunday, I got the mula fish over sautéed kale and potatoes. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the kale delicious (potatoes were good as well, but not the star of the dish). My friends shared a pizza and the tortellini. Both were wonderful and didn't leave the two of them overly stuffed. The waiting staff was attentive and charming and you can't beat the location. We made a reservation for 1pm but there wasn't a wait even for walk-ins as there is a lot of space. Also: outdoor seating, plus veggie and gluten-free menus. I would definitely go back. read more

What a lovely place. We have been here many times and always love it. Today we went there for brunch/lunch and sat by the fireplace. Everything was delicious. Bloody Mary's and kir royal started us off and were very tasty The parsley tortellini with the Burrata and tomato was excellent. Bolognese Ragu was good. Pizza margarita was thin crusted and tasty.
